Welcome to Scottish Yacht Charters run by David Lyle who has been a commercial skipper on the coast here for the past 25 years... The boats we have in the fleet are ideal for the area and provide an interesting selection of vessel to charter. All boat are coded for upto 60Nm away from a safe haven which allows charterers to explore all the islands off the Scottish mainland.

We are a small independent yacht charter company, operating from the West Coast of Scotland. Our base is Craobh Haven some 20 miles south of Oban, which gives access to the most spectacular yachting to be had in the British Isles. Craobh Haven and the surrounding region featured in the BBC documentary "Three Men Go To Scotland". The varied coastline and numerous islands of this area offer stunning scenery and crystal clear waters inhabited by a huge variety of wildlife, including whales, porpoises and basking sharks. Wherever you choose to make landfall, you're sure of a warm welcome ashore at one of the many harbourside restaurants, distilleries or places of historic interest.

The landscape bordering these extensive cruising grounds is beautiful and unspoilt. There are hundreds of islands and literally thousands of miles of coastline, giving plenty of scope for aspiring skippers to improve their pilotage and navigation skills. Inshore cruising

The West Coast of Scotland provides endless cruising possibilities. From small, idyllic anchorages to larger fishing villages and ports with all amenities there is something for everyone. The tidal waters make navigation essential to passage between islands, each one unique and set in the magical backdrop of an extinct volcanic landscape.

Kadore is based in Crinan, a picturesque village in southern Argyll, on the west coast of Scotland at the northern end of the Crinan Canal. The yacht is generally available for charter from early May until the end of September when the weather in these parts can offer some superb sailing. Kadore is a Nauticat 33, a 33ft ketch rig motorsailer built in 1989 in Finland, with plenty of room for 4 persons to be comfortable over any charter period. Her motorsailer characteristics make her an ideal choice of yacht for exploring the Western Isles of Scotland, from Skye in the north to Islay in the south. Whether under sail or powered by her 90HP Ford Lehman engine she can almost go anywhere in any weather. The covered wheelhouse provides all the protection you will need from the wind, the wet and the midges! Heating is ducted throughout the vessel adding an extra level of comfort. The carpentry is teak and other hardwoods throughout and, in keeping with her well appointed interior, smart new upholstery provides comfort in the saloon and sleeping cabins. Two ‘heads’, forward and aft, with shower and wash basins provide the essential facilities. A large galley running the length of the saloon provides the cooking and storage space to prepare all meals. Kadore comes with a 4 person inflatable tender and 2.3HP Honda 4-stroke outboard motor.

Kadore is available for weekly charter, and potentially for shorter periods depending on demand.

How to Book

The ‘bareboat charter’ price per week throughout the season (April to September 2025) is £2,200, with a £2,500 security deposit. ‘Skippered charter’ incurs an additional charge starting from £200 per day. A 5% discount is available for charters which are booked for 2 weeks or more. Charter weeks usually run from Sunday 12 noon to the subsequent Saturday 12 noon; a 24 hour turnaround is required following any charter period. The payment must be made in UK currency (GBP).

Diesel consumed over the charter period will be charged at cost.

We will then contact you to confirm availability and discuss your preferences and the finer details of your booking.  We will hold your provisional booking for a period of 14 days during which we expect to complete all paperwork and lodge a Booking Deposit.

We will send you the Charter Agreement to complete and return along with a Booking Deposit of £1,000. The deposit may be paid by bank transfer or Paypal.

We will return a copy of the Charter Agreement to you, fully signed.

Final payment, less the deposit paid, is due 6 weeks before the commencement of the Charter Period.

Short Term Charters

Charter over a shorter period is offered at £405 per day for a minimum of 3 days and subject to availability. Additional days (part-week) will also be charged at this rate.

Qualifications required

To comply with the insurance conditions, it is essential that any charterer and crew taking on a ‘bareboat’ charter have adequate experience and/or a minimum level of a qualification. This means that the Skipper must have at least an RYA Coastal Skipper qualification or be able to demonstrate competence and experience in coastal waters as Skipper in vessels of a similar size to Kadore. In addition, at least one other member of the crew must have an RYA Day Skipper qualification or be able to demonstrate sound experience to pilot the vessel to a safe haven should the Skipper be taken ill or injured. Clyde Yacht Charters was established in 2021 by three friends and keen sailors with many years (decades!) of sailing experience, particularly in the Clyde and the west coast of Scotland. We have been involved in the chartering business for several years.

The yachts we charter belong to us and we have enjoyed sailing them as friends and with our families for several seasons. We pride ourselves on knowing our boats inside out, and demand high standards of comfort and maintenance – we expect no less for our charterers than we do for ourselves. Each boat has an ongoing annual programme of maintenance and upgrades. All our boats are coded to MCA Cat 2. We offer skippered or bareboat charters.

Yacht Charter and Cruising on the West Coast of Scotland     Redbay 11 metre RIB This vessel has the capacity to transport up to twelve passengers in comfort all over the West Coast of Scotland. In addition to being available for individual charters out to the islands, it can be bareboat chartered to qualified crews for use on the West Coast. Bareboat means you skipper the yacht yourself, although you will need sailing experience and a licence. A skippered yacht comes with a professional captain who will take care of the sailing and the boat for you. Do we need to take care of food and drinks ourselves? The boat is hired as a self-catering accommodation. A catering / drinks package is available upon request. The skipper is not the chef (trust us). Do I need insurance? Near our base in Largs you can sail to find ruined castles, cute fishing villages, historic seaside towns, Viking battlefields, local pubs, and, of course Whisky distilleries. There's a dramatic coastline and the whole area is teeming with wildlife: from porpoises, seals and dolphins (and the tastiest fish in the UK) below the water, through to strutting wild stags and plenty of wild birds, including birds of prey. Sailing-wise, there's a reliable breeze, plenty of interesting passages and islands to hop around, and some top-drawer marina facilities - including one with its own spa and infinity pool. The Scottish people are renowned for their hospitality and good humour.    SAILING RATING:  Intermediate / Advanced - there's interesting and changeable weather conditions, plus tides, so some experience is useful before sailing in Scotland. The minimum sailing qualifications for chartering bareboat here are also higher than in the Med (see below).  WHEN TO GO:  The sailing season runs from April to November , with peak season being in the summer months. The weather can vary dramatically over a week, so you'll need everything from shorts and t-shirts to warm clothes and foul-weather gear, just in case, particularly outside of peak season. There's winds throughout the season, and short 3-4 day charters are possible in the off-peak - ask us if you are interested.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  You'll need RYA Day Skipper (or above) for smaller boats or RYA Yachtmaster for the larger ones ( or your local equivalent ) to charter a boat in Scotland - ask us if you are unsure of whether your qualification will be ok. If you're not qualified, we can find you a professional skipper .  VISA REQUIREMENTS:  Scotland is currently part of the UK and the EU , which means UK and EU passport holders can travel there at will. US and Australian passport holders do not need a visa unless planning to stay in Europe for longer than 90 days.  GETTING THERE:  Our base in Largs, in the Firth of Cylde, is within a 40 minute drive of both the main Glasgow International airport and the budget Glasgow Prestwick airport. It also has great connections by rail (with regular direct trains from Glasgow) and road to the rest of the UK. Longer charters could head up the Crinan canal to visit the Isle of Skye and the Inner Hebrides, or it's even possible to sail South to the Isle of Man or Northern Ireland.   Cost of a Sailing Holiday in Scotland? Prices change depending upon what sort of boat you are chartering, and when you would like to charter, and yachting offers great value for money because the fee includes a full-day activity, a means of transport and your overnight accommodation! Charters are normally in periods of a week, from Saturday (check-in at 4pm) to Saturday (check-out at 10am), though you're required to be back at the charter base on the Friday evening.
