When the Fountaine Pajot teams designed this yacht , their objective was clear: to offer the best combination of aesthetics, comfort and seaworthiness in a 42-foot catamaran . The result has exceeded expectations. Not only is her sleek silhouette easy on the eye, but the Astréa 42 is packed with features and fittings that you would typically only find on much larger catamarans . However, at 12.58 metres, she is still very easy to handle, and whoever takes the helm experiences a true connection with the boat while being right next to the sundeck where guests can keep them company. The helm station comfortably accommodates two with a separate area dedicated to manoeuvring and sail trimming. This makes movement to the sun loungers easier and safer. Here, the skipper remains in easy contact the crew , for sharing even more memories together.

While the Owner’s hull has its own ensuite with a walk-in shower, the other guest cabins can be customised to have a shared or private bathroom. The forepeaks can also be fitted out to accommodate other crew members, such as budding young sailors and future captains.

Innovative, high-tech composite materials constitute most of the structure of our sailing catamarans: hulls, flybridge, decks, bulkheads and more. Fountaine Pajot has perfected a resin injection and infusion technique, an advanced technology that gives our boats all their robustness. Thanks to this expertise, we can make our catamarans considerably lighter while maintaining consistent quality . Injection also makes it possible to meet the most stringent environmental requirements, in line with the commitments of the Fountaine Pajot Group.

Sailing catamarans from 40 to 50 feet are built at the Aigrefeuille headquarters, a few kilometres from La Rochelle. Catamaran yachts from 51 to 80 feet are built in La Rochelle, France, where they benefit from a slipway.

It is essential to define your sailing program: define the size of the crew on board, the level of sailing knowledge, the sailing project and the target sailing area. Every project is different. The ergonomics of Fountaine Pajot catamarans have been designed to facilitate manoeuvring at the helm, enabling a small crew (2 persons) to manoeuvre the boat easily, both in port and at sea. The unique design of the helm station allows good communication between the aft cockpit and the Fly relaxation areas. Of course, your level of navigation will determine your ability to sail with two or more persons!

Our electric catamarans now feature a large surface area of solar panels, up to 2000 WC, perfectly integrated into the design of the coachroof. Combined with equipment such as wind turbines or hydro-generators, they compensate for the energy consumption generated by on-board use during cruising. History of Fountaine Pajot

Fountaine Pajot was established in 1976 by Jean-François Fountaine, Yves Pajot, Daniel Givon, and Rémi Tristan. The company originated with a vision to produce high-quality sailing catamarans, aimed at the leisure sailing market. Their first model, the 505 catamaran, was met with acclaim and set the stage for a series of innovative designs that followed. Over the subsequent decades, Fountaine Pajot built a reputation for crafting seaworthy multihulls that combined performance with comfort, gaining a foothold in both recreational and charter sailing sectors.Located in La Rochelle, France, the company initially started in modest premises but rapidly expanded, necessitating several moves to larger facilities to accommodate increasing demand. Fountaine Pajot continuously invested in new technologies and design innovations, including the use of advanced composite materials and more efficient manufacturing processes. Their portfolio expanded to include motor yachts as well, diversifying their offerings and catering to a broader audience.Today, Fountaine Pajot is headquartered in Aigrefeuille d’Aunis, near La Rochelle, where they operate state-of-the-art production facilities. Fountaine Pajot ASTREA 42 for sale

We launched the catamaran in March 2022 and it operates in our charter fleet in Sukošan. As we are not only a charter company but also an official Fountaine Pajot dealer, the boat is very well maintained with regular servicing. The boat has never had a serious accident or damage.

The boat must remain in our charter fleet for the entire 2024 season, after which the new owner can decide whether to continue with the charter management program or start using the boat for its own purposes. The boat can remain in charter without problems for at least another 5 years. A new Croatian company was established to operate the boat in charter and this company is also the owner of the boat. It is therefore possible to buy the entire company including the boat, i.e. only to transfer the company\'s business share to the new owner. The boat is currently financed by leasing, so in the event of a transfer of the entire company, there is no need to change anything and just simply continue the lease payments. In this case, the first investment is only about 366 thousand Euros (status as of 30.8.2024). The total price of the boat in the case of continued charter management is also 33,500 Euros lower, i.e. 625,500 Euros without VAT.

Equipment: 4 double cabins + 2 skipper\'s cabins in the bows, 4 toilets, mainsail with lazy bag, furling genoa, bimini above the helm position, cockpit tent, electric anchor windlass, Garmin electronics, GPS 8410 chart plotter, 2x multi GMI20, autopilot, AIS, VHF, audio Fusion, speakers in salon and cockpit, 3x refrigerator, gas stove with oven, invertor, generator, air conditioning in salon and cabins, watermaker,  generator, solar panels, electric bathing platform with dinghy craddle, cushions in cockpit and bow, shower in the cockpit, complete safety and kitchen equipment included in the price, liferaft, dinghy 3,40 m without engine.​​

Charter management program: the owner\'s share is 70% of the net income minus the costs of berth, insurance and maintenance. Details will be sent upon request.

The price is shown without VAT. If the buyer is a company with a registered European VAT number or if the boat is exported outside the EU, then this price is the final price. For a private person from the EU without VAT registration, Croatian VAT of 25% of the amount stated on the invoice must be added.

The boat is anchored and can be seen and rented at our pier at the base in Sukošan.

• The Bali 4.2 has all the popular and successful trademarks expected of the Bali catamaran range. It has the huge open platform which provides a convertible indoor/outdoor living space using tilting “garage door” that lifts up into the ceiling. The convertible door is a unique feature on the Bali. When open, it look like a much bigger catamaran. The Bali 4.2 also features a door in the front of the salon that opens up onto the expansive forward cockpit. With the 4.2 Bali has adopted the newer trend of “Jack & Jill” bathrooms in the 4-cabin version which creates more space in the cabins. The big American-style refrigerator is another popular feature especially for families and liveaboards.
• The Lagoon 42 is one of the most popular models for cruising couples. She is a beefy and a very comfortable liveaboard catamaran with an oversized cockpit. The mast is centered in the salon which could be a deal breaker for some, but considering how many L42s we have sold, it does not seem to bother the people who own and adore them. The galley lacks storage, but there is space available to add cabinets and baskets. The cabins are ample with island beds and plenty of storage, particularly the owner’s cabin. It features the “Jack & Jill” bathrooms in the 4-cabin version, a great use of space.
• The Leopard 42 features all the popular and successful trademarks of the hugely successful Leopard 50. Like its big sister, it features the opening door to an intimate forward cockpit. The semi-raised helm station and “upper lounge area” is a very well done and a great feature for cruisers. It is luxuriously finished and all bunks are island berths that allow access from both sides. The forward-facing galley is well-designed.
• The Fountaine Pajot Astréa 42 is plush and comfortable catamaran with a well-appointed galley and sliding doors that open the salon up to the very big cockpit. The cabins are a nicely sized and spacious with island beds.

I have two specs that I would like to see on all four of these. The first is holding tank capacity. I find the holding tank capacity on most boats insufficient for live aboards. The other is air draft. The 42 foot and below range are ones that in the Southern US we have bridge anxiety. I would like to know if any of these have an ICW friendly mast option and what the height is.

In addition to Jay’s request… I would like to see some sort of price/performance/construction comparison too.

I’ve been a mono-hull sailor and live-aboard all of my life, but really am a novice with catamarans. I’m fairly familiar with the Leopard 44, having chartered them several times and really like them. I’m anxious to find out about what else is out there so I can make the best decision possible for my next boat. I’m really interested in a cat because I feel like I can sail a catamaran further into my later years then a mono hull.

Ron, I suggest you join the Bali Discussion if you can on the 27th of August [2020] on Zoom. Many of these questions will be answered during that discussion. As regards to your question about “price/performance/construction comparison” – I am not too sure what you want to know. I have added base prices in the comparison charts for all the models. The weight vs sail area (power) has some impact of course but for hulls of similar water length and hull shapes as these models have, performance for all four models will be similar, give or take a knot or so.

The world’s leading builder of cruising catamarans, the Fountaine Pajot boatyard was set up in 1976 near La Rochelle. The original team consisted of four people and built the 505 under the leadership of Jean-François FOUNTAINE, a well known regatta competitor recently returned from the Montreal Olympics. Innovative and well built, these craft immediately attracted the best French competitors. The enterprise then developed further, with other models of dinghies, the 420 and 470, built at the new Aigrefeuille yard, opened in 1978.

As early as 1980, Fountaine Pajot altered course and started to build Prototype IOR, monohull racers. These half-tonners from the Fountaine stable were to become world champions and win the prestigious Figaro solo race. The reputation of the yard in the world of ocean racing was thus established.

In 1981, the first multi-hulled vessel left the Fountaine Pajot yard. This was the 18 m deep-sea racing trimaran,the Royale, built entirely in foam-core sandwich for Loïc Caradec et Philippe Facque. The Fountaine Pajot team committed itself to open class racing, involving itself deeply in the adventure of Charente Maritime sailing vessels. Fountaine Pajot started building cruising catamarans in 1983 with a vision to develop a complete range of entry level through to large ocean going, world cruising catamaran designs. At this early stage in the development of production catamarans, Fountaine Pajot set out with the focus on innovative, safe, unsinkable and seaworthy designs that are now the benchmark for the world catamaran market.

Fountaine Pajot MY5 Reviewed

The MY5, the first flybridge catamaran in the Fountaine Pajot powercat line and previously known as the MY40, pushes the boundaries of powercat cruising in speed, safety and style. 

Thanks to its dual-hull cat design with suspended central platform, the MY5 offers increased interior volume, long range and stability, at rest and underway. Powercats are also highly efficient, requiring less propulsion to achieve similar speeds and ranges as conventional monohull vessels.

The flybridge deck is a standout feature, offering virtually unobstructed 360-degree ocean views and an elevated beach club vibe. Aft of the off-center starboard helm is a spacious area perfect for entertaining, complete with a wet bar, refrigeration center, and seating. It’s the most popular space aboard, according to the builder. If the weather turns, a second helm station in the salon allows the skipper to pilot the MY5 in climate-controlled comfort.

On the main deck, architect Daniel Andrieu and the Andreani Design team created a modern yet timeless look, maximizing the use of space offered by the vessel’s nearly 20-foot beam. The galley, located on the starboard side, connects both interior and exterior spaces while the foredeck offers a sunbather’s paradise with dual lounges and abundant seating.

At the stern, an optional hydraulic swim platform lowers for launching a PWC or small tender. A swim ladder provides easy access from the water. The teak cockpit has an L-shaped settee and easy access to the engines via deck hatches. Crew safety is a priority, with secure grab rails along the spiral staircase leading to the flybridge and tall railings along the walkaround alleys fore and aft.

Belowdecks, the Maestro layout includes an owner’s suite with a private companionway for added privacy. The stateroom, equipped with a transverse queen berth, gets natural light via hullside windows. The VIP stateroom has a similar-sized berth, while the forward guest stateroom offers twin bunks. Two heads and enough stowage space for extended cruising complete the accommodations.

The Fountaine Pajot MY5 is standard with twin 300 hp diesels and Volvo Penta IPS drives and has a 1,000-nautical-mile range at an economical 18 knots. With optional 440 hp engines, the MY5 has a top hop of 22 knots, and with a draft of just 3 feet, 6 inches, shallow-water anchorages are easily accessible.
