The best pictures of Koru

In 2022, the 125.8-metre sailing yacht Koru made history when she hit the water at Oceanco ’s Alblasserdam facilities. Now successfully delivered, she is the flagship of the Oceanco fleet and the largest Dutch-built yacht in the world.

Koru unable to dock in Florida

Koru arrived at Port Everglades, Florida in November 2023 following a months-long Mediterranean cruise that included stopovers in Dubrovnik, Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and Calabria (according to BOATPro ). The sailing yacht was too large to anchor in the nearby marina, which has a maximum capacity of 121.9 metres. She was photographed instead docking next to a 297-metre cruise ship named Rhapsody of the Seas .

Last summer, Koru was spotted in the French Riveria alongside her 75-metre support vessel Abeona . Delivered by Damen Yachting two months before the mothership, Abeona is equipped with a helipad and hangar for a D14 value helicopter– which is clearly being put to good use. Accommodation is for up to 45 people onboard Bezos' support vessel, including crew, guests and other specialist staff.

Koru and Abeona also travelled to Portofino in the summer of 2023, with both Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez sighted enjoying lunch and taking photographs while on board.

Throughout construction, it was difficult to get a glimpse of the details on board Koru ; but once handed over, all of her traditional features could be admired up close. As well as the intricate gold paintwork and scarlet bootstripe, the yacht also features an elaborate figurehead made of polished wood. The woman is wearing a necklace with a symbol in the pendant, which some have speculated could be the Māori symbol meaning "koru".

After delivery, the schooner spent some time enjoying the waters of Mallorca. The Balearic hotspot is a magnet for superyachts during the Mediterranean season, but Koru had the quiet anchorage largely to herself after leaving the Oceanco shipyard. Her classic lines could be appreciated in all of their glory against the backdrop of Palma Cathedral.

In April 2023. Koru was delivered and undertook her maiden voyage from the Netherlands to Gibraltar. She then headed onwards to Palma, giving the world a first glimpse of her cascading aft decks, mighty masts and elaborate aft deck pool arrangement. She was flying solo in Mallorca, but was later joined by support vessel Abeona .

Following her successful sea trials in Rotterdam, Koru embarked on journey to Palma, Mallorca that involved an overnight anchorage in Gibraltar. The sailing yacht was sighted passing through the Strait of Gibraltar a second time on her cross-continental journey from the Mediterranean to the USA in November 2023.

Koru was spotted departing from Rotterdam in the early morning light of February 13 to begin sea trials. The 125.8-metre Oceanco set sail across the North Sea to put her performance to the test after hitting the water for the first time in August 2022. The traditional three-masted schooner yacht has a midnight blue hull, traditional canoe stern and the unique addition of a chair at the very tip of the bowsprit. Her name represents the idea of life’s perpetual movement and is a Māori word closely related to that of an unfurling leaf.

The yacht was seen for the first time in her final form on the dock in the Port of Rotterdam. Her trio of masts was stepped here to avoid having to dismantle any bridges to allow the Oceanco giant yacht to pass under. The maximum height of the bridge is 70 metres; the masts on Koru are thought to measure between 65 and 85 metres. The first images of Koru indicate the yacht will have plenty of features for her owner to enjoy, including an aft deck pool and a large, uncluttered sundeck.

The 125.8-metre yacht was moved from Oceanco’s primary facilities at the crack of dawn to enter the final stages of construction. The hull was transported via Dordrecht and Spijkenisse (Oude Maas), and her masts were transported separately via the slightly shorter Rotterdam Centre (Nieuwe Maas).

Before she hit the water, the hull of Koru was loaded onto a transport vessel and she made the journey through the Dutch canals for further construction work. The yacht was captured against the backdrop of the quaint Dutch countryside, revealing her classic-looking lines and long rows of windows.

As she was wheeled out of the shed into the light of day, yacht-spotters were able to get their first proper aerial shot of the yacht, without her masts.

When Oceanco completed the work on the hull, the yacht was rolled out of the shed to reveal a crisp navy hull and white superstructure. Koru ’s exterior design immediately drew a comparison to Lürssen’s 93-metre sailing yacht Eos , which was designed by US-based Langan Design . This was the world’s first sighting of the already iconic superyacht.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and fiancé Lauren Sanchez had an outing with a celebrity couple earlier in the week as they continued their summer vacation by yacht in Europe.  

The recently-engaged pair appeared Wednesday to enjoy a visit to Croatia, holding hands and walking down a street in the seaside city of Dubrovnik. While exploring the city, they had the company of singer Katy Perry and actor Orlando Bloom, who have been engaged for a few years, according to Page Six.

Bezos and Sanchez's outing in Croatia marked the couple’s latest since getting engaged in Europe earlier in the summer.

The outlet first reported in May about the couple becoming engaged. They had been together for several years prior to that.

In one photo taken Wednesday in Dubrovnik, Bezos and Sanchez could be seen talking to the "Firework" singer with Bloom in the background. They also met up with Usher in the city, according to Page Six.

The Amazon founder and his fiancé have been spotted on multiple occasions in Europe over the course of the summer, including near Mallorca, Spain, in May and Portofino, Italy, in June. Photos from those instances showed them taking in the sun on Bezos’ massive superyacht.

Bezos’ Koru is a three-mast sailing yacht with a few luxurious decks, according to Boat International. He and Sanchez’s first outing on the nearly $500 million, 417-foot Oceanco-built vessel reportedly took place in May.

The ship served as the setting for their recent engagement party, Page Six reported.

The Amazon founder has a personal fortune of $155.3 billion as of Friday afternoon, according to Forbes.

Earlier this week, Sanchez said on Instagram that she and Bezos were "creating a Maui Fund and are dedicating $100 million to help Maui get back on its feet now and over the coming years as the continuing needs reveal themselves." The Hawaiian island has been hit hard by wildfires, leaving at least 111 people dead and potentially billions worth of damage.

Jeff Bezos  and  Lauren Sánchez 's summer travels have taken them to a new destination!

After embarking on a European getaway that included hosting an engagement party earlier this month on the Amazon founder's yacht on the Amalfi Coast in Italy, the couple was spotted taking an evening stroll in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

The billionaire, 59, and Emmy Award-winning journalist, 53, were dressed casually as they walked hand in hand down Stradun, Dubrovnik's main street, with Bezos' security following close by. Tourists and locals were spotted stealing a glance as they were joined by Katy Perry , Orlando Bloom , and Usher .

Perry, 38, and Bloom, 46, were seen hanging out with the group just a few weeks after the couple was spotted vacationing in Saint-Tropez, France , while on their own romantic getaway that included a stop in London .

Usher, 44, joined in on the trip a few weeks after wrapping the first run  of his Las Vegas residency and releasing his latest single, "Good Good ," featuring Summer Walker and 21 Savage .

Speaking about how his concert performances inspired the new music drop , he shared with PEOPLE exclusively, "I look out in the audience sometimes and I can see tears and I see his eyes, or I see guys singing a song that normally like, this guy super-duper hard, why the hell is he singing that song so emotionally? Oh s---, that means he probably experienced some idea of what it was to even make it. So I get really excited about that, so much so that it made me want to make new music."

It's been a celebratory couple of months since news of Bezos and Sánchez's engagement broke in May . Following the news, a source  told PEOPLE  that the couple "are really in love and happy, which makes everyone who knows them happy."

"They have been talking about it for a long time. All of her friends say this is her dream come true," the source added. "She found the man she wants to spend the rest of her life with, and they felt the time was right. He has all the money in the world, and what was missing was someone to share it with and everybody on both sides is very happy."

Bezos and Sanchez were recently seen enjoying the summer weather with Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, and Usher, according to photos published in People.

Bezos, Sanchez, Perry, Bloom, and Usher were photographed walking around Dubrovnik, Croatia, according to the report, a coastal city known for being a filming location for " Game of Thrones. " The group was spotted walking around the city and spending time on a boat, according to Page Six , although it's not clear if they took the party back to Bezos's $500 million superyacht.

Insider reached out to the group for any comment on the Croatia trip but did not hear back ahead of publication. Bezos and Sanchez seem to have a longstanding friendship with Perry and Bloom. In 2019, when Bezos hosted a private dinner party for Sanchez's 50th birthday, Perry and Bloom made the guest list, according to Page Six.   Earlier in 2019, Bezos also hosted a concert for Amazon employees. Katy Perry shared a photo to her Instagram with Bezos and Lil Nas X. Perry gave a live performance at the event, which was hosted to celebrate that year's Prime Day sales event.

Bezos and Sanchez have had a social summer as they celebrate their engagement. Just weeks ago, the couple hosted an engagement party on Bezos' $500 million yacht in Italy, according to Page Six . The guest list reportedly included Bill Gates, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kris Jenner, along with other stars. 

The relationship between Bezos and Sanchez became public news in 2019 after Bezos and ex-wife  Mackenzie Scott Bezos divorced. Bezos and Sanchez got engaged earlier in 2023.  Perry and Bloom, like Bezos and Sanchez, are also engaged. They got engaged in 2019 and have a daughter together.

The city is known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic." Located close to the southernmost tip of Croatia's Dalmatian coast, it has a population of around 42,000 and is a popular tourist spot, aided partially by its recent use as a filming location for " Game of Thrones. "

Travel company TUI says that the city "is enjoying a spell in the limelight at the moment." In June, foreign tourists collectively stayed 524,000 nights in Dubrovnik, making up just over 4% of all nights spent in the country that month by international tourists, according to the Croatian Bureau of Statistics .

Dubrovnik's Old Town became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. UNESCO says that the city was an "important Mediterranean sea power" from the 13th century onwards and has an array of preserved Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces, and fountains, despite being damaged by an earthquake in 1667 and armed conflict in the 1990s.

Visitors can walk along the city's walls, visit nearby islands, cross over the border to Montenegro or Bosnia and Herzegovina, and sample local wines alongside Dalmatian dishes such as squid salad and pickled cheese . Dubrovnik also has a cable car taking people to the top of a mountain that towers over the city, from which visitors can admire views of its terracotta rootftops, cobbled alleyways, church spires, harbor, and surrounding islands.

Bezos, Sanchez, and friends were spotted strolling around Stradun, the street which runs through the center of the Old Town and is home to a palace, churches, and cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating.

Bezos owns a $500 million, 417-foot superyacht, called Koru, which reports say was docked near Dubrovnik. The vessel had previously sparked a debate about the privilege of the ultra-wealthy when a historic bridge in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, was nearly dismantled so that Koru could pass through.

So far this year, Bezos and Sanchez have also vacationed on the yacht in Spain, Ibiza, and the Italian Riviera.

An inside look at jeff bezos’ $500 million superyacht and what it costs to keep it afloat.

Cliché but true, the second-richest man on the planet, according to Forbes , owns the tallest sailing yacht in the world . In fact, the 417-foot Koru is so big, it has its own 250-foot support vessel .

Priced at $500 million, the Koru hit the sea for the first time in 2023 and has since ferried Jeff Bezos and company around the globe. Complete with three massive 229-foot masts, it can reach a top speed under sail of 20 knots, according to the New York Post — which is approximately 23 miles per hour.

Made for a group, up to 18 guests can set sail on the yacht, allowing Bezos to bring family and friends on vacation with him. Here’s a look at the Koru’s extravagant features and how much it costs to operate his floating mansion.

Key Features

As expected Bezos’ yacht is dripping with luxury. With a net worth of $203.8 billion — as of May 4, 2024, according to Forbes — he can afford to outfit the Koru with nothing but the best and he did just that.

The superyacht has three outdoor decks, with two containing swimming pools, according to the New York Post. It also features a cinema, several lounges and multiple business areas, according to Luxuo .

Highly personalized, the yacht is complete with a figurehead modeled after Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez. Even its masts are luxurious, as the Amazon founder chose in-boom furlers, which keep the canvases at the bottom of the mast above the deck, creating a pristine and spacious rope-free deck.

Support Vessel

One of the most shocking features of the Koru is the fact that it requires its own support vessel. The $75 million Abeona features a helipad that Sanchez has been spotted using to park her personal helicopter, according to the New York Post.

Designed to carry extra gear, four jet skis, two fast launches and a dinghy were spotted on the Abeona during a 2023 trip to Mallorca, Spain, according to the New York Post. It’s also capable of lifting a small submarine, but Bezos isn’t believed to own one — at least not yet.

Additionally, the support ship has two extra staterooms, which can accommodate four guests. This could come in handy if Bezos wants to entertain a larger group than can fit on the Koru.

On-Board Crew

It probably isn’t a surprise that operating both the Koru and the Abeona is no small task. From staff to drive the boats and maintain them to caring for guests onboard, Bezos needs a small army at sea.

The Koru has a crew of up to 36 people, according to The New York Post. If you think that’s a lot, the Abeona requires up to 45 crew and support staff.

Annual Operating Costs

Purchasing the Koru and Abeona cost Bezos more than half a billion dollars, but his expenses didn’t end there. As you might imagine, the annual cost to maintain a superyacht and its own enormous supporting yacht is more than most people earn in a lifetime.

The Koru costs approximately $25 million in operating expenses per year, according to the Daily Mail . Much less, but still sky-high, Bezos spends around $5 to $10 million on annual maintenance costs for the Abeona, according to Super Yacht Fan ).

When their owners are on dry land, yachts have to find a parking space. However, even this doesn’t always come cheap for Bezos and the Koru.

In November 2023, the billionaire’s yacht arrived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but was too big to fit in the port with all the outer superyachts, according to the Daily Mail. Therefore, it had to be docked with cruise ships at Port Everglades, at a rate of $16,500 per week.

While one week of storage might be more than the average person can afford, picking up the tab for any number of weeks would clearly be no issue for Bezos. While his superyacht and the many expenses surrounding it are clearly astronomical, he’s still living well within his budget.

Amazon founder, movie star and pop idol hang out in and around Dubrovnik, sailing on one of the world's biggest yachts

One of the world’s richest men, Jeff Bezos, Hollywood star Orlando Bloom and pop icon Katy Perry have been holidaying together in and around Dubrovnik.

English actor Bloom, known for his roles in Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean , and his long-term partner Perry, were snapped while striding along Stradun, the main street in Dubrovnik.

Later they met up with Amazon boss Bezos, who is currently sailing his yacht Koru , one of the world’s largest, around the Croatian coast. The celebrities dined on the island of Šipan and the yacht was also spotted just off the islands of Mljet and Lastovo, both romantic getaways within easy reach of Dubrovnik.

Promi-Urlaub in der kroatischen Stadt Dubrovnik: Am Mittwochabend gab es für die Touristen in der Stadt am Mittelmeer eine starbesetzte Ergänzung. Amazon-Gründer Jeff Bezos (59) und seine Verlobte Lauren Sánchez (53) schlenderten zusammen mit ihrer Freundesgruppe durch die Strassen der Stadt. Das Paar war unter anderem in Begleitung von Katy Perry (38) und ihrem Partner Orlando Bloom (46) sowie Sänger Usher (44).

Fotos zeigen, wie die Gruppe durch die malerischen, mit Kalkstein gepflasterten Strassen an der historischen Stadtmauer entlang schlendert. Ausgelassen geniessen sie die Abendstimmung. Begleitet wurde die star-besetzte Urlaubsgruppe von Sicherheitsleuten, die wie «Daily Mail» berichtet , neugierige Touristen fernhielten. Nach dem Stadtrundgang soll sich die Gruppe laut «Page Six» wieder auf die Bezos' Yacht begeben haben.

Sommerurlaub mit Verlobungsparty

Anfang August hatten Bezos und Sánchez auf seiner 500 Millionen-Dollar Yacht mit einer prominenten Gästeliste ihre Verlobung in Italien gefeiert. Unter den Gästen sollen unter anderem Bill Gates, Kris Jenner, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire sowie Andrew Garfield gewesen sein. Seitdem verbringen der Unternehmer und seine zukünftige Frau einen von berühmten Freunden begleiteten Urlaub in Europa.

Das Paar soll sich im Mai 2023 nach fünfjähriger Beziehung verlobt haben. Beim Antrag soll Bezos der US-amerikanischen Journalistin einen 20-Karat-Ring an den Finger gesteckt haben. Anschliessend brachen die beiden zu den Filmfestspielen in Cannes auf. Danach wurden sie häufiger an der französischen Küste gesehen, wo sie offenbar bereits ihren Sommerurlaub genossen.

Jeff Bezos war vor seiner Beziehung mit Lauren Sánchez 25 Jahre lang mit MacKenzie Scott (53) verheiratet. Mit ihr hat er vier Kinder. Sánchez hat drei Kinder aus früheren Beziehungen. Sie war 13 Jahre lang mit dem Hollywood-Agenten Patrick Whitesell (58) verheiratet, bevor sie sich 2019 scheiden liessen.

Un week-end de Formule 1 plus tard - lors du Grand Prix de Miami le 6 mai dernier - l'Américain a mis le cap vers Majorque pour de luxueux congés avec sa fiancée Lauren Sanchez. Les deux tourtereaux ont ensuite pris le large à bord de leur yacht pour sillonner les côtes espagnoles.

Des retrouvailles avec Katy Perry et Orlando Bloom

Le 20 mai, alors que le Festival de Cannes battait son plein, les amoureux ont profité d’un peu de tranquillité aux abords de la Côte d'Azur. Cette escapade était le moment idéal pour présenter son dernier caprice en date, un trois-mâts de 127 mètres de long et 70 mètres de hauteur. L’entrepreneur a déboursé 500 millions de dollars pour ce nouveau jouet, deuxième plus gros yacht à voiles du monde . Le géant des mers est doté d’une figure de proue représentant une femme dessinée à la manière d’une déesse romaine surplombant les mers, dont le visage présente une réelle ressemblance avec sa compagne et présentatrice de 53 ans .

Large sourire aux lèvres, ils se sont affichés, entourés des leurs, sur le pont de ce bijou, baptisé « Koru » soit « Nouveau départ » en maori. Après quelques allers-retours entre Saint-Tropez, Majorque et Portofino, le duo a jeté l’ancre à Dubrovnik en Croatie. Là-bas, il a retrouvé ses amis stars, le chanteur Usher et le couple Katy Perry/Orlando Bloom . L’occasion d’arpenter les rues croates avant, peut-être, de prendre le large pour une autre destination de rêve.

Nun ankerte das Paar vor der kroatischen Stadt Dubrovnik und das mit berühmten Gästen im Gepäck. Megastar Katy Perry (38) und ihr Verlobter Orlando Bloom (46), so wie Sänger  Usher (44) gesellten sich auf die 500-Millionen-Yacht des Amazon-Gründers.

Das Staraufgebot wurde bei einem gemeinsamen Ausflug zum Festland gesichtet. Hand in Hand schlenderten Sánchez und Bezos neben ihren Gästen über die berühmte Straße Stradun, bevor sie in der Taverne Kod Marka auf der Insel Sipan in der Nähe von Dubrovnik speisten. Dort hatte der Milliardär die Terrasse mit Blick auf das blaue Meer für sich und seine Gäste reservieren lassen. Die Preise für Pasta und Risotto sollen in dem Restaurant bis zu 18 Euro betragen, berichten lokale Medien.

Auf dem Rückweg zum Boot zückten die Stars immer wieder ihre Handys, um Fotos von der malerischen Altstadt zu schießen. Sie verhielten sich wie ganz normale Touristen, nur dass die Runde von sechs Leibwächtern begleitet wurde. Mit einem Schnellboot ging es abschließend wieder zurück zur Super-Yacht des Amazon-Bosses.

Doch Perry, Bloom und Usher sind nicht die ersten berühmten Gäste von Bezos, erst vor Kurzem wurden Schauspielerin Demi Moore (60) und Oprah Winfrey (69) auf der Yacht des Milliardärs gesichtet. Anfang August segelte der 59-Jährige mit seiner Verlobten durch Italien und lud Bill Gates (67) und seine Freundin Paula Hurd auf seine Yacht ein.
