U-Boat Worx unveils the Nautilus underwater superyacht at the Monaco Yacht Show
At the 2022 Monaco Yacht Show the Dutch builder U-Boat Worx will review designs for the 1,250-ton, 37.5-meter Yacht Submarine, the Nautilus . Once it is built, the vessel will be equally at ease functioning as a yacht or a submersible. Since Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea came out in 1870, people have been dreaming of a luxury yacht with dive capabilities. Since then, inventors produced a lot of impressive concepts. Unfortunately, not one of these designs has ever been realised.
Being the world leader in the market for small submersibles, U-Boat Worx has now finally succeeded in engineering a realistic combination of luxury and safety in a fully certified private submersible. The diesel-electric Nautilus has a depth rating of 200 meters, with a surface cruise speed of 9 knots and an underwater speed of 4 knots. Once ordered, an owner can expect to have their Nautilus delivered within 30 months. When functioning as a boat, the Nautilus offers a massive sundeck equipped with a freshwater pool, a bar, and a luxurious dining table. This al fresco arrangement is retracted before the submersible slips below sea level.
A newly invented, completely pressure-resistant electrical tender is stowed under the Nautilus’s aft deck and will stay outside while diving. This tender, the Aronnax, may also be used for transporting five scuba divers underwater to the intended dive spot.
The Nautilus interior features a 50 sq. m dinner and lounge area with four circular windows. Each with diameters close to 4 meters. The proposed design for the submarine has a master bedroom and four staterooms, as well as sleeping quarters for up to six crew. A fully equipped galley makes cooking an underwater meal simple and fun. However, interior layouts are fully customisable by the client.
The superyacht submarine will be able to stay under water for up to four days. At cruise speed, the underwater endurance is six hours.
When not in use, the Nautilus can be docked at any quay that can accommodate its 6.5-meter draft.
The Nautilus has a starting price of € 25 million.
“People that have decided to buy a yacht will now have to consider if their vessel of choice can also dive down to 200 meters,” says U-Boat Worx Chairman and Founder Bert Houtman .
As an added bonus, the Nautilus easily combats seasickness. “If the sea becomes too rough,” says Houtman , “You simply dive and continue your voyage in comfort. With the Nautilus, the yachting market will never be the same again.”

Christened the Nautilus, the 123-footer is designed to serve as both a private yacht and a fully functional sub. It is equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system that allows it to cruise across the ocean at speeds of up to nine knots or travel underwater at four knots. The 1,250-ton hybrid can dive to 656 feet and cover some 3,200 nautical miles, according to U-Boat Worx. It will be able to stay underwater for up to four days, but can only cruise beneath the waves for six hours at a time.
“Our goal has always been to share the wonders of the underwater world with people in the safest, most luxurious, and comfortable way possible,” U-Boat Worx CEO Bert Houtman said in a statement. “The Nautilus is the realization of that vision.”
Above or below the water, the Nautilus is designed to keep seafarers in the lap of luxury. The living quarters are outfitted with comfy, contemporary furnishings and large circular windows that afford incredible ocean vistas. The decor also seems to have a slight retrofuturistic bent, with curved lines and neon lights that feel very Jetsons .
The layout can be fully customized by the client, but the standard configuration includes a spacious saloon with a dining area, a fully equipped galley, one owner’s suite with a private bathroom, four staterooms, and cabins for up to six crew.
Other highlights include a mezzanine observation lounge that provides cinematic views of the marine life, a foredeck lounge that is perfect for cocktail hour, and a high-tech gym that’s stocked with all the requisite gear.
“We invite you to come and experience the thrill of underwater exploration for yourself, on board this one-of-a-kind vessel,” Houtman adds.
Up for the challenge? U-Boat Worx says the Nautilus can be delivered within 30 months and starts at roughly $24.5 million (€25 million).

At the Monaco Yacht Show 2022, Dutch shipyard U-Boat Worx unveiled ready-to-construct concept designs for a 37.5m/123ft luxury submarine yacht: ‘NAUTILUS’.
Luxury submarine yacht Nautilus Blue 3qrt Back Tender
Submersible yacht concepts have been created before, however, none have made the leap from an idea into reality. U-Boat Worx intends to be the first, using the company’s experience in creating small submersibles to engineer and launch a fully certified submersible with all the comfort and indulgences expected aboard a yacht.
Luxury submersible yacht NAUTILUS top view
Submersible motor yacht NAUTILUS runs on diesel-electric power and can reach a depth of up to 200m/656ft, with 10 windows 4m/13ft wide giving a unique view of the underwater world – perfect for guests who cannot dive into such depths yet still want to see the wonders of destinations such as the Red Sea , the South Pacific and the Caribbean .
Nautilus Luxury submersible yacht profile
An added advantage of underwater capabilities means no more seasickness: In rough seas, NAUTILUS can simply dive below the surface and continue the journey in comfort. The NAUTILUS has a surface speed of 9 knots and an underwater speed of 4 knots. She can stay under the waves for up to four days, or for a total of six hours while cruising.
Above water, guests have access to alfresco facilities including a sundeck, bar, pool, dining, lounging and sunbathing facilities. All of this is retracted before going underwater.
Nautilus – Luxury submersible yacht
A pressure-resistant electrical tender (named ‘ARONNAX’) is stored under the aft deck and will remain outside while diving. ARONNAX can be used for transporting up to five Scuba divers underwater, to and from their destination.
The interior layout is fully customisable; however, the standard layout offers a 50m²/538ft² lounge and dining area, galley, plus guest accommodation over 5 cabins: 1 Master suite and 4 further guest cabins. The crew accommodation provides for 6.
The price for a NAUTILUS of your own starts at €25 million, and once commissioned, her Owner can expect to receive her within 30 months.

half-yacht, half-submarine 'nautilus' by u-boat worx exudes lush living above & under the sea
U-boat worx designs diesel-electric superyacht ‘nautilus’.
There’s a new opulent water vehicle in town and it goes by the name ‘Nautilus’. Maker U-Boat Worx takes a step toward luxury above and underwater with the design of its diesel-electric superyacht . Half-steeped in the sea, the upper deck remains open and roomy for sightseeing far from land.
Heading down, the submerged body of the vessel enjoys large round windows that afford the view of the marine species and oceanic life. Amidst these wonders gracing the design, Nautilus seems to hone in on exquisite affluence, drawn from the interior of the superyacht that revels in a five-star-hotel atmosphere.
Exploring Nautilus with Officina Armare
Working with design studio Officina Armare for visualization and interior design, U-Boat Worx canopies its passengers in a cavernous part-residential, part-watercraft expedition. Two-level decks separate the sunken vessel with the main deck taking its influence from the chalets found in the Alps.
The area is designed to offer cozy spaces regardless of the time of the year with comfortable low-profile seating that provides a good view for observation and lounging also with groups of people. The seating itself may already be turned into bed spaces with its influx of curved and bent shapes that allow for quick naps.
The second level, named Maindeck Sunken Lounge, is designed 25 centimeters lower than the main deck level. Lounge mattresses are placed in front of the round window structures to instill a sense of natural entertainment right before the passengers’ very own eyes (although a pop-up TV screen is present in this space, nestled between the windows). In the observation mode, the TV is hidden and courtesy lights are synchronized with life underwater.
Nautilus carves its own observatory under the sea. Inside the Mezzanine Observation Lounge, U-Boat Worx and Officina Armare hammer out a circular, flowy glass above and in front of the passengers’ heads that peer through the scenic seascape outside. A C-shaped sofa brushing against a couple of leather armchairs gathers people together to bear witness to the marine life unfolding outside and the lap of luxury being served inside.
The sleeping areas are holed up on the lower foredeck and accessed from the grand staircase. Here, rich colors converge with the refined, glossy visuals of the surroundings, starting with the golden light that the rods by the headboard emit. The floor is only half-covered in a silky white carpet to make way for the glass areas. The Master cabin has an en suite bathroom with a bathtub and walk-in wardrobe directly accessed from inside the cabin.
Inspired by Jules Verne’s classic novel
As U-Boat Worx states, Nautilus is rooted in Jules Verne’s classic novel, ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’ where Captain Nemo and his submarine, the Nautilus, embark on a journey beneath the seas. While its conception is still yet to unravel, the submersible superyacht is foreseen to have a depth rating of 200 meters, with a surface cruise speed of 9 knots and an underwater speed of 4 knots.
When functioning as a yacht, the part that is not steeped in the sea, the Nautilus offers a massive sundeck equipped with a freshwater pool, a bar, and a luxurious dining table. The privately-operated submarine hopes to carry up to 10 passengers, excluding crew, in a fully conditioned environment to a depth of 150 meters, and thanks to the abundant power supply, the Nautilus can stay submerged for up to 18 hours with 10 guests.

A Superyacht Submarine Debuts in Monaco
- By Yachting Staff
- November 10, 2022
At the Monaco Yacht Show , U-Boat Worx unveiled its Nautilus design, a 123-foot, 1,250-ton vessel that the company says can function as a yacht or a submersible that uses diesel-electric power down to about 650 feet below sea level.
Cruising speed is projected to be 9 knots for the Nautilus, with an underwater speed of 4 knots.
Guest spaces include a bar, pool, lounge, dining room, five guest staterooms, quarters for six crew and a galley. The entire sundeck gets retracted before the vessel goes into submersible mode. The design also includes 10 windows, each more than 13 feet wide, for views of the underwater world.
A pressure-resistant tender, the Aronnax, can be used to take as many as five divers to a scuba location away from the mothership.
According to U-Boat Worx, this “superyacht submarine” will be able to stay underwater for as long as four days. At cruise speed, it can stay underwater for six hours.
What’s the asking price to build the first Nautilus? It’s about $24.5 million. U-Boat Worx says it can deliver the Nautilus within 30 months of a contract being signed.

U-Boat Worx Innovates In the Submersible Space With a 123-Foot SuperYacht-Submarine
By: Tim Huber Published: Oct 03, 2022
Since its inception in 2005, Dutch outfit U-Boat Worx has unequivocally been one of, if not the single biggest innovator and market leader in the private and recreational submersibles market. Despite the fact the Breda-based brand already offers some 20 different models — including the lightest personal sub, the fastest submersible on the market, and a submarine capable of accommodating up to 120 passengers, all of which debuted in the last year alone — it’s now unveiled what’s almost certainly its most noteworthy release to date with what’s been christened the Nautilus — a 123’ superyacht-submersible hybrid vessel capable of cruising atop the waves or diving deep below them.
Configurable with a variety of custom layouts, the Nautilus has been outfitted with a 215-square foot galley and a 538 square foot dinner and lounge area lined with massive circular windows, plus four bathrooms, four staterooms, and a master suite — enough space to comfortably accommodate up to ten passengers along with seven crew members. When operating above the water, passengers on the Nautilus can bask in the sun while topside on its enormous 635-square-foot upper deck which includes a freshwater pool, a bar, and a luxurious al fresco dining table area. A solar panel-equipped upper deck roof provides shade while atop the waves and folds down to protect the bar area when diving while an elevator also transports passengers from the upper to lower floors.
Constructed around a custom-designed steel hull, the Nautilus also boasts a 25.26’ beam, a 21.3’ draft, and stands at 23’ tall. The submersible superyacht is propelled by a diesel-electric powertrain that affords an underwater speed of 4 knots and a cruising speed of 9 knots. Able to remain below the waves for up to four days at a time, this hybrid vessel also features a depth rating of 656’ and a range of 3,200 nautical miles. The ship also comes loaded with what U-Boat Worx has dubbed the Aronnax — a deployable, completely pressure-resistant electrical tender boat that integrates into the Nautilus’ aft deck when not in use.
Available for order now with a 30-month build time, the U-Boat Worx Nautilus Yacht Submarine carries a starting price of €25,000,000 (~ $24,490,000).

Nautilus: The submersible superyacht by U-Boat Worx, interior design and visusalisation by Officina Armare.
The diesel-electric yacht submarine Nautilus has a depth rating of 200 meters, with a surface cruise speed of 9 knots and an underwater speed of 4 knots. When functioning as a yacht, the Nautilus will offer a massive sundeck equipped with a freshwater pool, a bar, and a luxurious dining table. This al fresco arrangement will be retracted before the submersible slips below sea level. The Nautilus presents a new class of exceptionally spacious privately-operated submarine that can carry up to 10 passengers (excluding crew) in a fully conditioned environment to a depth of 150 meters. Thanks to the abundant power supply, the Nautilus can stay submerged for up to 18 hours with 10 guests. The interior features a 50 m2 dinner and lounge area with four circular windows each with diameters close to 4 meters, a master stateroom and four guest rooms, as well as sleeping quarters for up to six crew, a gym and a fully equipped galley.
Forward Lounge
The interior concept is mainly focusing on ‘keeping passengers connected to the land underwater’ by the design, use of materials and layout as the submarine is engineered to spend quite a long time underwater.
Foredeck Lounge is dark enough to keep the main focus on the underwater at the same time lively and warm enough to provide comfort at home on land despite the cold water surrounding it. One of the main inspiration for that space was the chalets from the Alps as they are designed to offer cozy spaces during the snowy cold winters. Comfortable low profile seating is preferred in order to provide a good view for observation and lounging also with group of people.
Sunken Lounge
Maindeck Sunken Lounge is designed 25cm’s lower than the main deck level. Provides better visibility to outside as it’s lower with a custom designed furniture. Lounge mattresses are placed on the window structure in order to create an extra functional space that could be used for reading and such activities. In this space a pop up TV screen is used in between the windows. In the observation mode, Tv is hidden and courtesy lights are synchronised with life underwater. Since the bar is located at the back, there’s direct and easy access to drinks, snacks.
Dining Area is located on the main deck front of a window with a breathtaking views, large enough to accommodate 10 people. Food is served directly from the galley on the main deck. Low-back armchairs and used floor lamps as they bring feel of dining at a larger space.
Mezzanine Observation Lounge is accessed from the grand staircase. Besides it’s observation function, it has a more private feeling and quite a good area for conducting business and meetings.
Owners Stateroom
Owners Stateroom is located on the lower foredeck and accessed from the grand staircase. Color scheme here is darker as it’s located at the lowest level of the submerine. Parametric walls turn into seating area on both sides with darker colors and smoother shapes as it goes ‘deeper into water’. Master cabin has an en suite bathroom with a bathtub and walk-in wardrobe directly accessed from inside the cabin.
Amenities (Gym & Bar)
Gym Area is located right next to elevator & staircase. The space is very dynamic because of it’s function and it’s shape. We used dynamic courtesy lights, open-access water fridge, Technogym equipment and Bang Olufsen sound system.
The Bar on the other hand is an exceptional place to hang out inside the submarine, located on the main deck right next to a window to underwater. The bar stand is designed as carved wood and dark colors are preffered for this space in order to make the view and the drinks stand out.
Guest Cabins are located on the main deck corridor. Provides an exceptional headroom and space to guests. Beds directly placed in front of the window. Room is featuring a work desk, a wardrobe and a lounge mattress on the window structure.
Guest Bathroom
Guest Bathrooms are carefully placed on the structure areas in between the windows, providing an exceptional head room and comfort with stand-up shower.
Elevator & Staircase
Elevator and staircase area is designed to give the first impression to users as if the y are at the bottom of the ocean by featuring a round LED display on the ground. Carbon fiber is used for the staircase structure and wall supports.
