Sofia Richie, the daughter of singer-songwriter Lionel Richie, was spotted on board 91.5 metre Oceanco superyacht Tranquility . The 21 year old model, who has been featured in campaigns by Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors and Chanel, was invited on board with her boyfriend Scott Disick to celebrate Kylie Jenner's 22nd birthday party . After cruising the Amalfi Coast , Richie disembarked in Antibes to stay at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc together with the Kardashian-Jenner girls.

Elizabeth Hurley

British model Elizabeth Hurley recently spent some time on board the 27.33m Private GG . She was seen cruising the coast of Greece on board the Wally yacht, even taking to the water with the yacht's seabob. Hurley is not the only celebrity who has been spotted on  Private GG , however. In June 2018, actress Gwyneth Paltrow also chartered the yacht in Capri . She was seen on board together with Valentino Garavani, founder of fashion house Valentino.

Sara Sampaio

Last week, Victoria's Secret angel Sara Sampaio was spotted in Capri, Italy on board 101.5 metre Feadship Symphony . The supermodel was joined by her friend Juliana Herz and boyfriend Oliver Ripley, a British hotelier who she's been dating since 2015.

Sara posted a number of pictures to her Instagram including one of Symphony's iconic aft pool.

Australian model Shanina Shaik (far left) revelled in a little winter sunshine on board a yacht in Sydney in February 2019. Shaik was joined on board by a group of friends including model agent Annie Kelly, fellow model Jesinta Franklin, her husband Buddy Franklin and former AFL star Tom Derickx. The group spent the day cruising around Sydney harbour as guests of Dior Parfums and taking plenty of suitably chic snaps.

Shaik, however, is no stranger to life on board and was also spotted at sea during a break in LA in October 2017. Shaik was joined on the waves by fellow models Daniela Braga and Nadine Leopold for the weekend getaway where the girls enjoyed some unseasonal sunshine with Shaik captioning her post "It’s 105°F in LA #bikiniinfall".

American model Olivia Culpo has been spotted on numerous luxury yachting vacations during the summer of 2018. She was first spotted on board in Montenegro in early June, where she was joined by friends Nabilla Benattia and Draya Michele, and took in many of this popular yachting destination's beautiful sights. Having gained a taste for the yachting lifestyle, Culpo was once again seen on board in late June, choosing 22.1 metre Sunseeker yacht Gambler for a vacation in Ibiza.

Model friends Georgia Fowler (left), Sadie Newman (top right) and Sara Sampaio enjoyed some time off after New York Fashion Week with a trip on board a luxury yacht in the Bahamas in February 2018. While the girls did not disclose the name of their yacht - or their exact location - images of a polished wood exterior suggest they may have chosen a classic yacht for their weekend break. The friends also packed plenty into their short trip, taking spearfishing lessons, scuba diving and, of course, sunbathing.

Sampaio has previously shown her appreciation for the yachtie lifestyle and was spotted enjoying some summer sunshine on board a yacht in the Balearic Islands in August 2017. The Victoria's Secret model was joined by a number of friends for her vacation and the group explored the waters around Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza as well as making good use of the yacht's extensive toy box, which featured stand-up paddleboards, snorkel gear and a floating bathing platform.

Former Victoria's Secret Angel Izabel Goulart made the most of some post-New Year time off with a luxury yacht cruise in her home country Brazil in January 2018. In fact, Goulart boarded not one, but two, yachts while on vacation in the Fernando de Noronha area. She first enjoyed a day trip with boyfriend Kevin Trapp, fellow PSG footballer Neymar Jnr and Neymar's girlfriend, actress Bruna Marquezine before hopping aboard a second yacht for some quality time with her mother.

Goulart is no stranger to yacht vacations and was seen on board in Mykonos in September 2017. The model was spotted enjoying the break during some downtime between the Venice Film Festival and international fashion weeks. Goulart was also spotted on a yacht in  Ibiza in summer 2016 as well as a  luxury yacht charter in Italy  in 2015 where she cruised around Porto Cervo in Sardinia. She shared much of the experience on social media - including posting an image of neighbouring superyachts such as the fashionably blue hulled yacht Madame Gu .

Alessandra Ambrosio and Ludi Delfino

Former Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio took some time off after the festive season to enjoy a winter break in her home country with fellow Brazilian models Ludi Delfino (pictured right), Aline e Duda Deboni and Gisele Coria on board a yacht in Costa Esmeralda. Located in northeastern Brazil, the friends cruised the coastline at Praia Brava or, as Delfino described it, 'Brazilian Saint Tropez'.

In July 2017 Ambrosio was spotted on a luxury yacht in Mykonos. A few weeks earlier she had been seen relaxing on a sailing yacht in Ibiza and on board in Brazil in spring 2017. She also took a yachting vacation in the Bahamas in December 2016 and stayed on board 86 metre Feadship Ecstasea  in St Tropez in July 2016. The model was joined by her fiance Jamie Mazur and their two children for the French Riviera cruise and the group made good use of the facilities on board this family-friendly yacht by taking a dip off her huge swim platform and trying out her Jet Skis.

Josephine Skriver and Jasmine Tookes

Victoria's Secret models Josephine Skriver and Jasmine Tookes sailed off the beaten track in January 2018 by taking a trip to Antarctica . The pair headed out on a rugged explorer vessel (picture background left) with their boyfriends Alexander DeLeon and Juan David Borrero and, along with taking in the stunning scenery and local wildlife, showed off their adventurous sides by braving the cold and snow in swimsuits. Truly getting into the spirit of the trip, Skriver even posted an image of herself in her cabin reading Shackleton's Way: Leadership Lessons from the Great Antarctic Explorer .

However, this was not Skriver's first time on board. In August 2016 she joined fellow Danish model and TV presenter Caroline Fleming on 46.5 metre CMB Yachts Orient Star in Santorini, Greece. While Skriver only enjoyed the luxury yacht for a day, Fleming and her family indulged in an extended vacation on board the vessel enjoying her gorgeous interior, gourmet food and extensive toy box.

Vita Sidorkina

Victoria's Secret model Vita Sidorkina saw in the New Year in style on board a yacht in Paradise Island, Bahamas in December 2017/January 2018. Although Sidorkina did not confirm which yacht she chose for the vacation, it was clear she was in good company, with a second luxury yacht being snapped in the background of a sunset picture she shared on social media.

However, this was far from Sidorkina's first on board adventure. Following her wedding to Italian property magnate Valerio Morabito in Ravello in late July, the couple were spotted enjoying a lavish superyacht honeymoon on the Italian Riviera in August 2017 while in July 2016 Sidorkina took some time off from shooting to relax on board a luxury yacht in Cat Cay Island, Bahamas. Sidorkina shared plenty of snaps from this stunning tropical destination which was, in fact, her second superyacht vacation of the summer. In June 2016 the model spent time cruising around Capri and the Amalfi Coast on Perini Navi sailing yacht Ellen  as well as taking her pet labrador on board a superyacht in Miami in May. She also spent time on luxury yachts in Sydney, Florida, Ibiza and Greece in 2015.

Celebrities Accused Of 'Yachting' In Hollywood — And What Being A 'Yacht Girl' Really Means

Rumors suggest some women are paid to play..

It’s easy to be envious when seeing the Instagram photos of young, carefree celebrity women seemingly having the time of their lives on yachts floating in exotic waters and in the VIP sections of the most exclusive clubs.

However, rumor has it there is much more than meets the eye when it comes to these ‘yacht girls’ and their extravagant lifestyles.

What is a yacht girl?

According to Urban Dictionary , a yacht girl is “an attractive young woman who finds ways to get access to luxurious surroundings by being available to wealthy men.”

For example, you may follow a woman or two on Instagram who always seems to be partying or vacationing somewhere expensive (notably without ever showing who she’s actually with). This is a person you could potentially describe as being a yacht girl.

And it’s not just those Instagram models and wannabe stars that are considered yacht girls. As you work up the wealth chain, you may be surprised to recognize some celebrity names synonymous with yachting.

What is 'yachting' in Hollywood?

In Hollywood, the term yacht girl essentially means a woman who works as an escort for high-end clientele , not just on yachts but for any social event.

While the practice has only somewhat recently gained mainstream notoriety, if you think back on the many tabloid photos of models and actresses on yachts from years past, it appears to be something that's gone on in Hollywood “for 60 years,” according to Elie Nahas, who ran a Beirut-based modeling agency before being arrested on charges of running a prostitution ring in 2007.

In 2013, "The Hollywood Reporter" ran a feature describing this so-called yachting during the Cannes Film Festival.

“Every year during the festival there are 30 or 40 luxury yachts in the bay at Cannes, and every boat belongs to a very rich person. Every boat has about 10 girls on it; they are usually models, and they are usually nude or half nude,” Nahas told THR.

At the end of the night, each woman would receive a “gift,” a generous amount of money that the client would put in an envelope for her.

And while many of these women were self-proclaimed local prostitutes and escorts, the Cannes Film Festival is, of course, known for its celebrity attendees — and it’s rumored that celebrity women trying to fast-track a name for themselves in Hollywood become yacht girls, too.

“Women installed on yachts in Cannes during the film festival are called ‘yacht girls,’ and the line between professional prostitutes and B- or C-list Hollywood actresses and models who accept payment for sex with rich older men is sometimes very blurred, explains one film industry veteran,” Dana Kennedy wrote for THR.

Some women in Hollywood have accused their celebrity peers of being yacht girls.

A 2017 blind item (celebrity gossip that doesn’t outwardly name the celebrity) allegedly written by a struggling actress describes being lured by another actress into the world of yachting :

“The actress I was talking to made it sound super easy and that she only had [sex] a few times with guys while yachting and that it was mostly partying and being arm candy,” she writes, explaining that eventually she agreed to try it for $25,000 upfront, but admitting that the experience was less than glamorous.

Blind item readers guessed that Canadian actress Vanessa Lengies wrote the blind item and further surmised that it may be one of the Glee actresses Naya Rivera or Heather Morris that introduced her to yachting. None of these claims have ever been substantiated.

If you believe the rumors, it would seem that yachting is a rite of passage for women hoping to “make it” in Hollywood, and even some celebrities we now consider A-List are thought to be former yacht girls.

In an excerpt from her 2021 memoir , “My Body,” Emily Ratajkowski details being paid $25,000 at the start of her career to go to the Superbowl with now-disgraced Malaysian financier Jho Low, who "‘just liked to have famous men and women around,’” she explains her manager told her at the time.

She writes about attending the star-studded Coachella on someone else’s dime, having drinks paid for at clubs, and attending afterparties with Oscar-winning actors before actually becoming a celebrity herself.

One could infer from this recollection that, in order to be able to tell these stories, Ratajkowski was herself a yacht girl. “My Body” suggests as much, and in it, she subtly gives away the identity of another celebrity woman who yachted alongside her.

Ratajkowski describes watching as Low gave shots to a Victoria’s Secret model. While she doesn’t name drop, Ratajkowski gives just enough information for readers to figure who that model likely was.

“Now she kept her eyes locked on him as he took his shot, throwing her head back dramatically as he did, only to quickly toss the alcohol over her shoulder,” Ratajkowski writes. “When he faced her again, her eyes sparkled and the famous dimples appeared on her cheeks.”

Low has since become a fugitive wanted for allegedly running an international money laundering scheme, and in 2017, Reuters reported that model Miranda Kerr — known for her dimples — was being ordered to return “diamond pendants, earrings and other jewelry worth about $8 million” that Low allegedly gifted her to government agents.

In 2017, Ratajkowski also posted a video on Instagram potentially outing Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber as yacht girls as they danced aboard a yacht during that year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Many people have also accused Meghan Markle of yachting (but then again, what haven't people accused Markle of at this point).

People have pointed to an old photo of Markle on a yacht as proof that she’s a former yacht girl.

Another old blind item also suggested the former actress was available to “rent.”

"If you see B actress post scantily clad photos of themselves on Social Media, this is often a Comm to [them] that this person is available to ‘rent’ for a weekend of ‘yachting,’” the tweet says, including a photo of Markle in a swimsuit.

Markle’s close friendship pre-Harry with actress Priyanka Chopra has naturally led some to guess that Chopra once yachted as well.

Another actress that faces endless rumors of yachting is Russian actress Irina Shayk , which according to THR, is par for the course as the outlet writes that yachting your way to stardom happens with “disturbing frequency,” particularly when it comes to foreign-born actresses.

According to THR, who claims to know “of at least one now-prominent actress who made her first connections on a Cannes yacht and quickly landed her debut role in a U.S.-shot movie,” such as with Shayk’s 2014 film “Hercules,” it’s “a red flag any time you see a foreign-born actress with no credits suddenly make her way into a U.S.-shot movie.”

Of course, when it comes to yachting in Hollywood, all of these claims appear to be unfounded.

These rumors make for good gossip, whether you’re talking about low-level social media influencers or high-profile celebrity actresses.

However, nothing is proven, leaving us to wonder any time we see a photo of women on a yacht.

Silverstein’s seafaring subjects included the  $275 million Ulysses and newly- built, $200 million Olivia O, both of which were spotted off the coast of St. Barths capital Gustavia.

UPDATE: Greek port authorities are today expected to reveal the preliminary findings of a post mortem examination into the death of an Australian model on a superyacht.

Sinead McNamara, 20, was found unconscious on the luxury US$140m Mayan Queen IV off the island of Kefalonia four days ago. She reportedly died while being flown to hospital.

Investigators told The Sunday Times a crew member found Ms McNamara on the rear deck of the vessel.

The 20-cabin, 92-metre yacht is owned by Mexican mining magnate Alberto Baillères, who is worth an estimated AU$9.6 billion.

“By the looks of it, she took her (own) life,” a source described as a senior official told the paper.

Ms McNamara, a Sydney-based Instagram influencer, had been working on the Mayan Queen IV for the past four months before her sudden death in the early hours of Friday morning.

The tragedy came as her mother Kylie and sister Lauren were making their way to Greece to join Ms McNamara for a holiday. They were reportedly told the news while in transit.

The young model had been looking foward to their visit, posting an upbeat message on social media just days before her death.

“Happy birthday to the most amazing big sister I could ever ask for, 5 days till I get to see you!!! Excitement is an ­understatement”, she wrote.

That post was in stark contrast to an earlier, cryptic message that appeared on Ms McNamara’s Instagram page .

“My head is all over the shop today,” she wrote, along with emojis of a volcano, a tornado and a needle with blood dripping from it.

Sharing an image of herself on a quad bike, she added: “Take me back to this where my only worry was not cracking my skull open.”

According to local media, Mr Bailleres left the yacht, which was anchored off the island of Kefalonia, on Tuesday — leaving Ms McNamara alone with the crew. Her body was reportedly found on the back of the boat two days later.

What happened in the 48 hours after the billionaire’s departure, in the lead up to Ms McNamara’s death, is now the subject of an inquiry by local authorities.

“The Coast Guard of Kefalonia has ordered an investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of the 20-year-old Australian national as well as an autopsy-necropsy,” In Kefalonia reported.

The Mayan Queen IV was scheduled to set sail (yesterday) but has been ordered to remain docked in the port of Argostoli until detectives have interviewed all crew members and a forensic examination of the vessel.

In a tragic development, local reports suggest desperate attempts were made to revive Ms McNamara at the scene before she died on route to hospital.

“Local port authorities were informed at 2am Friday morning that the body of the woman was found … at the back of the yacht,” Kefalonian Mantata said .

The paper said officers from the port authority, crew members and a doctor “tried for long time to bring her back” before rushing her to a hospital in Argostoli.

Doctors made the decision to fly her to a private hospital in Athens but Ms McNamara died during the helicopter flight, local media said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it has offered support to the McNamara family.

“DFAT is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian who died in Greece,” a

spokeswoman said.

Originally from Port Macquarie, Ms McNamara moved to Sydney five years ago.

She was travelling in the seaside town of Pylos on the southwest coast of Greece.

In her last Instagram post four days ago, Ms McNamara wrote about jetskiing in Komitata, Greece.

Ms McNamara had been working on yachts while travelling in Europe.

There has been an outpouring of grief of Ms McNamara’s Instagram profile, from fans of her travel and modelling photography.

“Rest In Peace you gorgeous girl, life is so unfair,” wrote @lilyrobinson.

A number of people have also posted comments asking about the circumstances of her death.

Ms McNamara writes on her Instagram page that she is a fan of “camping, 4WD, adventure and travel”. She has 12.7k followers on the platform.

Australian YouTube star Alex Hayes posted the news to his social media accounts.

Hayes, who has more than 650k followers on Instagram posted the tragic news in an Instagram story, writing “Life is so precious gone was too soon. Such a beautiful human being. Will cherish all our memories. Rest in Peace you beautiful soul”.

Instagram model found unconscious on Mexican billionaire's yacht 'died by hanging,' coroner says

An Australian Instagram model who died after she was found unconscious on a Mexican billionaire’s super yacht in Greece hanged herself, the Greek coroner’s office said Monday.

The coroner told Britain’s  The Sunday Times  that Sinead McNamara had killed herself using a thick rope. The 20-year-old model was found hanging from an upper deck on the Mayan Queen IV just before 2 a.m. Friday in the Greek port of Argostoli in Kefalonia.

A captain on a neighboring boat had discovered McNamara and yelled for help,  news.com.au  reported.

A doctor on the yacht, as well as other crewmembers, attempted to revive McNamara before authorities arrived at the scene. She died in the helicopter on the way to the hospital.

The coroner said McNamara was “unconscious, but not dead” when she was found on the 300-foot yacht owned by billionaire businessman Alberto Bailleres. The mining magnate was not on the $140 million yacht during the incident.

A toxicology test is being conducted. No suicide note was found at the scene.

She posted on Instagram days before her death saying she was excited to see her sister.

Earlier in the month, the model shared a cryptic post, writing: "My head is all over the shop today...take me back to this where my only worry was not cracking my skull open."

Authorities are also searching McNamara’s text messages and reviewing security footage that captured her last moments.

The super yacht was initially ordered to remain at the port during the investigation into McNamara’s death. Police allowed the yacht to sail on Sunday after all the crewmembers were interviewed by police.

McNamara’s body is expected to return to her family in Australia on Tuesday.

Weiter schreibt sie: «Ein Film wird dabei gedreht und ganz viele Fotos werden gemacht.» Wenn Andersen daran interessiert sei und mehr Informationen haben möchte, solle sie ihr eine E-Mail zurückschreiben.

«Ich musste etwas schmunzeln, als ich die Anfrage erhielt. Sie klang so unseriös», erzählt Andersen. Sie schreibt trotzdem zurück: «Mich nahm Wunder, worum es bei dem Dreh genau geht.»

Teilnehmerinnen müssen «völlig gesund und psychisch stabil» sein

Kurze Zeit später erhält sie eine zweite Nachricht. Sie enthält viele Informationen und Anforderungen, die die Frauen erfüllen müssen. Unter anderem müssen die Teilnehmerinnen «positive und aufgeschlossene Mädchen sein, mit denen es leicht ist, zu arbeiten und angenehm im Umgang sind». Zudem müssen sie «völlig gesund und psychisch stabil sein.»  

Die Frau erklärt, dass auf der Yacht eine Serie gedreht wird. Jede Episode dauert 30–45 Minuten. «Wir erwarten, dass dies ein ‹die Zeit von meinem Leben› Erlebnis wird und wir werden unser Bestes geben, dass es genau so wird.»

Vier Tage lang werden sie ausserhalb von Freeport ankern und «in dieser Zeit die Lucayas, die Ureinwohner der Bahamas, besuchen». Dort werden sie Fotos von allen Mädchen zusammen mit den Lucayas machen.

«Die Episoden werden auf einem Streamingdienst veröffentlicht, der nur zahlenden VIP-Mitglieder zur Verfügung steht», heisst es in der E-Mail weiter. Wie hoch das Gehalt sein wird, kann die Frau zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch nicht sagen, aber sie verspricht, «dass niemand enttäuscht sein wird».

Ganz am Schluss sind verschiedene Vertragsbedingungen aufgelistet. Unter anderem: 

«Mir wurde schnell klar, dass dieser Job auch gefährlich hätte sein können und ich nichts damit zu tun haben möchte», so Andersen. «Verschiedene Punkte in dieser E-Mail sind total skurril. Beispielsweise das Oben-Ohne-Shooting, das Shooting mit den Ureinwohnern und dass man psychisch und physisch gesund sein muss.» Eine solche E-Mail im Spamordner hätte sie niemals beachtet. 

Junge Schauspielerinnen erhoffen sich Karrieredurchbruch

Andersen erklärt, dass sie nachvollziehen kann, dass junge Schauspielerinnen ein solches Angebot erstmals ansprechend finden: «Auf den Bahamas arbeiten zu können, hört sich erstmals sehr verlockend an. Wer würde das nicht gerne tun?»

Junge Schauspielerinnen würden oftmals in unangenehme Situationen geraten: «Alle meine Freundinnen waren bisher in einer Situation, die ihnen nicht geheuer war.» Und: «Man gerät schneller in solch eine Situation, als man denkt oder selbst von sich erwarten würde.»

Wenn man dann noch lese – wie in der E-Mail oben –, dass es sich um eine Serie handle, denke man immer darüber nach, ob das nun der grosse Karrieresprung sei. «Ich hoffe, dass bei der zweiten E-Mail viele realisiert haben, dass es keine seriöse Anfrage ist und abgelehnt haben», so Andersen.
