Our first edition of this article, entitled ‘The most beautiful restaurants in Luanda’, broke the record for LNL views and quickly became the most widely read article on the portal at the time. Apparently we and you both like beautiful things.

Since the publication of the most recent article in this series (five years ago!), Several new restaurants have opened in Luanda; some of them are beautiful enough to deserve the creation of a third edition of the list of the most eye-catching spaces in the city (and one or the other that was "forgotten" in the previous edition is highlighted here).

As in the previous edition, the purpose of this list is not to classify the restaurants (this list is not in any order), nor to talk about the food or the prices. The focus here is really the aesthetics of the places, the decor, the interior design, and so on.

Cousteau (Yacht Club Luanda)

It is one of the newest restaurants in Luanda and one of the most beautiful. Cousteau is located inside the Yacht Club Luanda (also known as Marina Baía), a work with the signature of the well-known architecture firm Costa Lopes Arquitectos. Through the glass side wall you can enjoy the superb view of the Bay of Luanda, the sea and the marina. Inside, velvet chairs, carpet and subtle lighting add a cozy feel to the room. It should also be noted that the restaurant's cuisine was consulted by the celebrated Portuguese chef Miguel Laffan, winner of a Michelin star.

Luanda residents with good memories know very well that Bessangana is inserted in the structure of the former Bob's Burgers, and that the remodeling that all that space has undergone is really transformative. From the lush green terraces to the interior room, the Bessangana's decor is coherent and elegant. This beautiful restaurant has the signature of the Angolan atelier Metapolis, one of the most respected in our square. "We congratulate the Architect Maria João Telles Grilo, who achieved a very successful reading of what we wanted", the management once told us.

This space in the Royal Park Condominium in Morro Bento almost goes unnoticed by those who do not know; for those who know, it is an elegant and inviting space, where attention to detail is more than evident. Moon is intimate - the restaurant isn't that big, despite having a small interior room and a nice terrace - but it doesn't have to be. The design is very well designed so that we can be comfortable and enjoy the little touches of refinement around us.

It was not necessarily the food, which was actually quite okay, but mainly the poor service. We sat outside on the terrace where the bar was manned by only 1 person. With multiple tables occupied this results in a simply cocktail or glass of wine to take 15mins. Our main course was served cold and was sent back (also food was served while I was in the toilet). It might be we were just unlucky, but still a place which charges high prices and prides itself on high-quality food & service should be consistent each time.

Firstly, the lady at the entrance was so selective, she thought we were coming there just to take juice/water and take pics so she didn’t want us to come in. Then we told her we were here to have lunch and she immediately changed her attitude. Secondly, we had a seat then we waited 20mn and noone came to attends to us. Then we called a waiter to bring us the menu. We waited for another 20mn before the waiter came to take our orders. And we waited for 15min before getting our drinks then the food came 5min later. It almost took an hour to got served! And the worst thing is that the place wasn’t even full. There were only 5 occupied tables and the waiters were like 6/7 standing, talking and doing nothing instead of attending to us! Lastly, we saw that once a white man and his girlfriend came in, a waiter run to them and even got their drinks before ours. So yeah, y’all are racially selective! The place is nice but that poor service and incompetent staffs need to be changed before you lose clients! I won’t even recommend this place. 1 person found this review helpful 👍

I do not accept that, a place like this, with the status they have, offers poor service in the restaurants. Came out for dinner 1st time with a friend from LNL and informed the kitchen, at the restaurant indoors, that I have dietary restrictions, I'm allergic to gluten (celiac disease - allergic to flour/wheat). To our surprise, they offered me a basic salad, because I'm clearly a rabbit. I asked for another more creative suggestion. They gave me a poorly tasting soup. Months later, I went to the restaurant at the pool deck. They sat us down while we waited for our table to be prepared, they later forgot us and sat another group there. That was also the last available table. I gave up on this place.

At Marina Baia, from every perspective, the view is magnificent. Having Baia de Luanda as a background scenario for a nice lunch, happy hour snacks and cocktails watching the sunset or having a good dinner in a private and calm atmosphere. During the weekends it's lovely to see families enjoying the outdoor garden near the pool. Marina Baia is a great venue for events, from executive webminars, conferences and meetings to corporate relaxing sunsets, dinner anniversaries and breathtaking weddings. The hotel is lovely. There is a feel of an intimate environment from the lobby to the room, the staff is very welcoming and willing to assist. There are different typologies depending on your preferences and type of suite with hotel apartments available for long stays. The health club is mandatory for any guest. Marina has two very different restaurants: indoor and outdoor, Cousteau and Bateau both with their charismatic signature experiences. The food is tasty and you can assure the quality. Chef Helt Araujo takes the lead of the gastronomic experience, from the hotel room to the garden and coffee breaks assuring the consistency of the experience.
