The motor yacht ARGYLL is a 47 metre 153 (ft) large aluminium boat which was made at North American Yachts And Shipbuilding (Nays) and devised by Sergio Cutolo and Luiz De Basto Designs. Sleeping 10 passengers and 9 qualified crew, motor yacht ARGYLL used to be Genesis as her shipyard project name and/or yacht title. Completed in the year of 2002 her interior decoration reflects the design knowledge of owner and Luiz De Basto Designs / Ralph Lauren Home.
An interesting feature of ARGYLL is that North American Yacht and Shipbuilders have made this vessel accessible to those in a wheelchair. The 153' motoryacht with living spaces spread across 4 decks and each dec is serviced by a wheelchair size elevator. 153-foot Motor yacht ARGYLL bound for Miami from St. Thomas, noticed a small boat packed with people, including children that had lost a propeller and were out of gasoline. They'd been drifting for three days, with no food or water. When they were close enough to see and talk to the boat's occupants the crew of ARGYLL realised the boat was overloaded with Cuban refugees. Captain Robert Corcoran instructed his crew to begin passing out food, water, blankets, and first-aid supplies then notified the U.S. Coast Guard remained on-site until a rescue team could arrive and take over.
Sergio Cutolo was the naval architect involved in the formal vessel plans for ARGYLL. Her interior design was realised by Luiz De Basto Designs / Ralph Lauren Home. Sergio Cutolo and Luiz De Basto Designs is also associated with the yacht wider design collaboration for this yacht. Created at North American Yachts And Shipbuilding (Nays) the yacht was completed within Italy. She was officially launched in Livorno in 2002 before being delivered to the owner. A spacious area is manifested with a maximum beam (width) of 9 m or 29.7 ft. With a 2.2m (7.2ft) draught (maximum depth) she is fairly shallow. The material aluminium was used in the building of the hull of the motor yacht. Her superstructure above deck is fashioned from aluminium. In 2007 extra refit work and updating was in addition performed.
Powered by two CATERPILLAR diesel main engines, ARGYLL is able to attain a high speed of 21 knots. Coupled to the ARGYLL engines are twin screw propellers. She also has an efficient range of 4000 nautical miles when sailing at her cruising speed of 18 knots. Her total HP is 4500 HP and her total Kilowatts are 3311. For bow thruster maneuverability she was fitted with Rodriquez. With respect to the ship’s stabalisers she uses Quantum Zero Speed.
The capacious luxury yacht M/Y ARGYLL is able to accommodate a total of 10 people and 9 crew members.

World class cruising
The West Coast of Scotland is one of the best sail cruising grounds in the world, and Argyll is at its heart. The sheer variety of the sailing, the spectacular scenery and wildlife, the combination of sheltered sounds, rugged islands and high mountains, the profusion of safe, beautiful and generally uncrowded anchorages and the warm welcome you will find ashore make Argyll a world class cruising area.
Sailing in Argyll is no longer wilderness sailing. The area has developed enormously over the last decade, with full service marinas, pontoons and moorings being developed, providing facilities for more yachts. Bars and restaurants serving high quality local produce are going out of their way to attract yachtsmen. All the support a cruising yacht needs – chandlers, engineers, riggers and sailmakers – is now available within Argyll.
We want this to be the most complete directory for sailing in Argyll. Please get in touch if there are any businesses you think should be included.
Cruising In Argyll
Heading North past Craignure and Lochaline, you can sail up the sheltered, but spectacular, Sound of Mull to sample the delights of Tobermory. From here, you may circumnavigate Mull in an anticlockwise direction, taking in the Treshnish Isles, Staffa and historic Iona.
If you head South from Oban down the Sound of Kerrera you may decide to stop overnight at the famous anchorage at Puilladobhrain [‘pooldoran’]. Although the anchorage can be crowded in the high season it is a beautiful spot, and the well-trodden walk across the hill to the famous Tigh an Truish pub and the Bridge Over The Atlantic is well worth the effort.
Continue South past Seil and the slate islands of Luing and Belnahua and then – if you have got the tide right – ride the Dorus Mor to picturesque Crinan. From here it is sheltered sailing for thirty miles or more down the Sound of Jura to Craighouse, Gigha or the big island of Islay with its many malt whisky distilleries and its bijou wee marina at Port Ellen.
Going North again hitch a tidal lift up the Sound of Islay and you can head for remote Colonsay and Oronsay before continuing North for the Garvellachs and Oban or, if time permits, across to sunny Tiree, rocky Coll or historic Iona before heading back to Oban down the Sound of Mull.
And this is just Argyll . . . an ideal base to explore further afield, to Skye or across the Minch to the Outer Hebrides. Let your sailing adventure start in Argyll.

One of the most celebrated days in Kazan city is the Republic Day . It reflects both the old Russian and Tatar people customs and festivals and a new face of Kazan city. Crowds gather in the Kazan city stadium, located on the site of the old Tashayak Fair, to see the colorful spectacle: horse races, the national wrestling, the ingenious folk contests, such as the famous sabantuy, 'the celebration of the plough'.
The crowds of Kazan city people that assemble to celebrate the Republic Day could be seen in earlier times only during the officially sanctioned manifestations organized for May Day and the anniversary of the October Revolution. But on the Republic Day the people who gather together whatever their ethnic origins, experience a new feeling of solidarity and common purpose. Besides Russians and Tatars , who are the most numerous, there are the Chuvash, Mari, Udmurt and Mordvin peoples and many others. Although in recent years there has been much emphasis on the renaissance of the Tatar nation and its culture . It should not be overlooked that, according to the statistics, every inhabitant of Kazan city is a partner in or comes from a mixed marriage Kazan has always been noted for the good relations among the people that make up its inhabitants. Despite all the national sporting events when, for example, on the ice of Lake Kaban the workmen of the Tatar settlement and the Sukonny quarter, located on opposite shore came out to try their strength in fist-fighting, the history of the few centuries has not known serious ethnically-based conflicts. Working together and sharing the burdens of life has always been common to the multi-national population.
Strictly speaking, this comes at the beginning of summer, after the first hay-making but why not celebrate it again in August, at harvest time? The Tatar festivals mirror the people's adventurous spirit and their zeal for work. It should be mentioned that in the old days landowners along the Volga always tried to hire Tatar peasants for the harvest, not only because they were remarkable for their sobriety, but because they knew how to use two hands on the scythe.
The Kazan city history says that prince Andrey Kurbsky who had distinguished himself during the capture of Kazan city , gave a rapturous description of the surrounding area. He said: "In that land there are big fields, exceptionally abundant and generous in their crops. There are also the beautiful courts of their princes and grandees, truly amazing. There are villages, and there is so much grain of all sorts that one cannot describe or believe it - it is as plentiful as the stars in the sky."
The anonymous author of The History of Kazan city , who lived for a long time at the court of the khan, describes what he saw with similar wonder: "It is a beautiful place... rich in pasturage for herds, and rich for bees, bringing forth all types of grasses and abundant in fruit, full of wild animals, fish and all sorts of worldly goods; you cannot find another place like it for beauty and wealth in the whole of the Russian land, with such riches that I'm not sure any foreign lands have."
The multi-national culture of Kazan city is displayed at the Republic Day festival in its full spectrum: there is the Kazan Theatre of Fashion , which is almost unique in the world, musical ensembles playing on traditional instruments, the dramatised history under the open sky. At such breathtaking spectacles, when the stadium becomes a theatre, it is very clear that the greatest riches of Kazan city are the people who live there.
