• Sailing to Pier 39 where the sea lions have taken over a whole marina. You’ll pass on the lee side of Alcatraz to be greeted by seagulls. Then it’s off around Angel Island to Ayala Cove where you can see the beautiful cities of Tiburon and Sausalito. Experience the current in Raccoon Straight, while passing under the Golden Gate Bridge with the fresh ocean breeze on your face. With luck, you’ll see dolphins or whales. Jibe the boat back and enjoy the gorgeous city front of San Francisco. This tour requires four hours or more. 
• Docking by Sam’s Cafe in Tiburon for drinks and a burger or enjoy one of many other fabulous restaurants on the water. This is a four-hour minimum tour. 
• Sail by the baseball park and catch home run balls. This is a three to four-hour tour. 
• Pack a picnic basket or barbecue, and we’ll sail over to Angel Island. This is a full day event (six hours minimum).
• Sail under the Golden Gate Bridge and see the sunset. This can be done in two hours. 
• Go out beyond the Golden Gate Bridge and sail in the Pacific Ocean. Depending on how far out in the ocean we sail, this can take two hours to a full day.

Dozens of boats are available to rent on San Francisco Bay, in Sausalito, San Francisco, Berkelely, Richmond, and in the Oakland/Alameda Estuary.

Renting a Boat on SF Bay

San Francisco Bay is a demanding place to skipper your own boat. If you don’t have experience dealing with 30-knot winds, 4-foot chop, and 5-knot currents, think twice before heading out at the helm of a rented boat. Most organizations that rent boats can also provide trained skippers. If your experience is limited, consider limiting your boating to the Oakland Estuary, which is relatively calm.

Rent a Sailboat

Sailboats between 22 and 44 feet are the most common rental boats on SF Bay, with a few larger sailboats also available to qualified skippers.

Most sailing schools offer sailing club membership programs that provide access to their fleet at reduced rates. Some even provide unlimited use of their sailboats for a single annual fee. If you plan to rent sailboats regularly, one of these sailing clubs is likely to be your best option.

Renting Kayaks on SF Bay

You can also rent kayaks, which are great for seeing the bay and shoreline up close. Novice kayakers should stick to protected areas, such as Richardson Bay or the Oakland Estuary, and avoid the open waters of the bay. Rowing shells are also available to members of rowing clubs.

Powerboat Rentals

Relatively few powerboats are available for rent on the bay, but you can rent a Boston Whaler or a Mainship trawler.

Skippered Boat Charters

If you’re looking for a skippered boat on San Francisco Bay, you have two choices:

• You can rent a boat from one of the many companies that offer “bareboats,” and ask them to provide a skipper.
• You can charter a yacht that operates full-time as a crewed charter. These vessels tend to be larger and more luxurious. Most charter yacht owners will also arrange catering of anything from appetizers to elaborate gourmet meals.

Bay Cruises

For a less expensive option, consider taking one of the scheduled bay cruises, which you can book on a per-person basis. Such bay tours are available on both power boats and large motoryachts , from 30′ to 300′, and on sailboats .

Bae boats is a great little operation, the boats are awesome, super easy to drive, hold a perfect group size of 10 people, it's a really fun time tooling around the oakland estuary. They run a great operation with friendly helpful staff. There is a deli of some kind nearby that can set you up with great charcuterie boxes, ask them about it. We will definitely do this again, it was a lot of fun and perfect for kids

We had such a blast on this boat!! We brought some friends along as a fun social distance, outdoorsy birthday party, and cannot recommend it enough! The boat is plenty spacious, has an awesome speaker system, is fun to drive and goes the perfect cruising speed. We were able to cruise down to Fruitvale bridge, and back towards the large shipping vessels past Jack London. The owners were super friendly and accommodating. We'll definitely be back again!
