Watch: Amazing Aerial Video Of Yacht Carrier – Super Servant 4 At Work

Transporting or relocation of luxurious yachts can be a difficult task. However, this special yacht carrier, the Super Servant 4, makes it look so smooth. Watch as the vessel lowers to take in the yachts (and small/big sailing vessels) and then rises up to bring them out of water (float-on method), much like a floating dock.

This super-cool aerial video by  yacht-transport   shows the loading process in Le Marin Martinique of some super yachts utilising the float-on method of the Super Servant 4.

That boat, is going to float: Super Servant

Our terminal at the Waalhaven in Rotterdam received the Super Servant 4. A heavy lift and yacht carrier, which is semi-submersible, has a length of almost 170mtr and operates since 1982 under Curacao flag.

The Super Servant 4,  (formerly owned by Dockwise Yacht Transport and now part of Sevenstar, a subsidiary of the Spliethoff Group) , is mainly used in transporting (multiple) yachts around the globe. The company has a fleet of several semi-submersible ships to give clients access to many major shipping ports. In some occasions it carries over 30 yachts. This vessel offers float-on and float-off transportation services, where yachts literally cruise on and off carriers. The whole procedure involves great precision, while the Super Servant 4 is submerged to a draft that is required by the yachts.

The Rhenus Waalhaven Terminal is suitable for mobilizations and demobilizations, reeling of cables, limited jacking of light jack-up vessels and long-term laybys. The Rhenus Deep Sea Terminal offers the same services as the Waalhaven terminal but has the advantage of a deep draught and a heavy bearing floor suitable for offshore wind and decom projects. Both our terminals are centrally located in Rotterdam. The Rhenus Deep Sea Terminal is closely located to the North Sea, whereas our Rhenus Waalhaven Terminal is a perfect service terminal for the offshore industry.

Unsung Heroes: Meet the Load Master with DYT Yacht Transport

Andriy 140

Like many industries, yachting has its share of unsung heroes doing all manner of skilled and important jobs that we never hear about. Following Matt Hyde's article about riding a yacht in transit , we wanted to know how these yachts are loaded onto carrier ships in the first place and discovered that 'float on/ float off' is not quite as simple as it sounds.

Speaking from Palma, former captain Andriy Antonenko is the Load Master with Florida-based DYT Yacht Transport , managing the loading and unloading of the company's two flo flo vessels, Super Servant 4 and the newer Yacht Express.

His job starts the moment a booking is made and doesn’t end until the yacht has been safely handed back into the hands of the owner or representatives. ‘This is a job which spans from start to the very end’, says Andriy. ‘I check all the documents received from the client, make preparations on board the ship and make a safe and proper plan with the operational  department for the loading and offloading.’

About - DYT Yacht Transport

yacht carrier super servant 4

Our heritage

DYT, formerly known as DOCKWISE YACHT TRANSPORT was founded in 1987. The first sailing was under the name of Wijsmuller, a shipping company that specialized in heavy, off shore bulk transport and tugboats. During the oil crisis of the 80’s, Wijsmuller was forced to find innovative new markets for a strong decline in bulk transport. Modern yacht transport as we know it was discovered.

In 1987 the first yacht carrier, Super Servant 6 was launched. With a few technical adjustments this submersible yacht carrier was equipped with side walls made with railway sleepers. These walls allowed for the necessary protection and safety needed to shelter the yachts during transport. The company, led by Jeff and Gina Last, who with their personal touch and creative approach, developed the idea of an on-time transport schedule and took the company to the unique position as the preferred yacht transport provided worldwide.

Today, the foundation for this unique and safe method of shipping dedicated to the transport of yachts can be seen in the modern 658 feet YACHT EXPRESS with her high rising side walls. And after years of preparations, in January 2022, DYT announced the delivery of the purpose-built semi-submersible vessel, YACHT SERVANT. The Yacht Servant boasts an impressive 6,300 square meters of deck space, and measures 214.17 meters (702,66 feet) in length and 46 meters across the beam, with a draft of 4.6 meters. Additionally, it has a specialized deck located behind the bridge, specifically designed to accommodate tenders, containers, and small race boats.

DYT Yacht Transport’s mission is to serve the global yachting community with safe, reliable, and on-time Superyacht transport to the most sought after destinations in the world. True to our beginnings in 1987, whether it’s the South of France or the hottest sport fishing destinations in the Pacific, DYT is looking to broaden the horizon of yacht transport.

Superyacht Carrier Transforms into Superyacht

The semi submersible, cargo carrying, merchant ship, Super Servant 3 has now been converted into a superyacht

Once a semi submersible, cargo carrying, merchant ship, the superyacht carrier,  Super Servant 3  has herself now been converted into a superyacht.

Built over 40 years ago and launched in 1982 by Oshima Shipbuilding in Japan the semi-submersible vessel has been transformed in to a 146 metre expedition yacht at a shipyard in Turkey.

The Karmarine Shipyard began working on the project back in 2017 when she was retired from active duty as a superyacht carrier by Dockwise.  Yacht designer Timur Bozca, who won the Young Designer of the Year in 2015 is the brains behind the vessels extra ordinary new guise.

Built in 1982 the superyacht carrier vessel has been transformed in to a 146 metre expedition yacht

Now carrying the name  OK  and registered in the Marshall Islands the superyacht is somewhat unusual in that she has retained her ability to flood up and so create an island in the sea and a virtual lagoon on which the owner’s seaplane and sailboat can be stored.

Loading toys and tenders onboard could not be easier thanks to her semi submersible nature.  The ship’s ability to submerge with almost 70% of herself under water allows her to accommodate 70 different toys such as her own 46 metre sailing yacht, tenders, buggies, amphibious vehicles and a sea plane, making her any fun-seeking adult’s dream.

The former superyacht carrier has been completely reconfigured so as to carry 20 guests and now boasts an indoor swimming pool surrounded by glass windows, a botanical garden, four aquariums and an open-air tennis court, an outdoor cinema, and a sun deck jacuzzi for their enjoyment.

The superyacht carrier s ability to submerge with almost 70% of herself under water allows her to accommodate 70 different toys

Enhancing the ships deployment capabilities she has also been fitted with a 40 tonne crane a large car ramp and a vertical wind turbine

Designer Timur Bozca said:  ‘We aimed to create the unique feelings of being on an undiscovered island, we have done it and  OK  has already started to travel the world.’  Bozca was delighted to have the chance to work alongside the shipyard in his home country.  Talking about the team at the Karmarine shipyard, he said: “Working with people with extraordinary vision gives me great pleasure and has given us all the opportunity to really push the project to it limits.”

Operating semi submersible ships are not easy and it is likely that with a gross tonnage of 10, 224  OK  will be operated with a commercially certificated crew who should be well aware of the pitfalls.

Super Servant 4 caused concern following an electrical failure in Palma de Majorca during June 2020

While carrying a cargo of yachts, the superyacht carrier  Super Servant 4  caused concern in Palma de Majorca during June 2020 when an electrical failure, on board caused ballast water to be incorrectly transferred from one side to the other. This combined with electrical issues led to heavy listing of the carrier. More seriously in December 2006, Dockwise ’s heavy lift vessel,  Mighty Servant 3  sank completely in 60 metres of water while offloading the semi-submersible drilling rig  Aleutian Key in the port of Luanda, Angola.  She was salvaged by SMIT International the following spring and has since returned to service.

Whether carrying 50-foot sport fishing boats or 250-foot luxury yachts, Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT) and its fleet of semi-submersible ships provide clients with access to plenty of the world’s most important shipping ports, which in turn lead to some of the most desirable travel destinations around the world.

Super Servant 4 in Auckland New Zealand, a popular yachting destination for Dockwise Yacht Transport

Super Servant 4 in Auckland New Zealand, a popular yachting destination for Dockwise Yacht Transport

In early February, DYT’s 556-foot (169.49 meter) Super Servant 4 started its annual passage to Brisbane ( Australia ) and Auckland ( New Zealand ), a sailing that originated in Palma de Mallorca in late November, 2012. Having stopped in Le Marin ( Martinique ), Port Everglades ( Florida ) and Golfito ( Costa Rica ) on its way to the South Pacific , the semi-submersible ship, which “sinks” to load and unload its floating yacht cargo, is now enroute to Golfito and will return to Port Everglades before it goes transatlantic.

Currently aboard Super Servant 4 is Glen Kerunsky’s (Calgary, Canada) 64-foot (19.66-meter) motor yacht Mystery Ship, with which Kerunsky has cruised the South Pacific for the last three-and-a-half years.

“The last time we used Dockwise was in 2008, to ship our boat from Long Beach to Vancouver,” said Kerunsky . “We cruised Mystery Ship all the way down to the South Pacific from Canada , but if we could do the trip again, we would start by shipping the boat on Dockwise to Auckland and begin our trip there. The country is a must-see, and there are so many friendly people.”

Kerunsky and his wife Cindy enjoy scuba diving but they like to discover each of their new destinations both by sea and by land. After they had exhausted their options in New Zealand, they cruised north to Tonga and then west to Fiji where they did more diving. The next stop was the Vanuatu Islands .

“It is a very friendly place,” said Kerunsky . “All of these places make you feel like you are stepping back in time, and it’s great because many of the islands are so remote that many tourists cannot get to them.” After exploring the Vanuatu, the couple cruised to New Caledonia , and from there it was a four-day run to Australia. In Australia, they explored the coastline and dove the Great Barrier Reef before cruising south to Brisbane to ship their boat.

“Dockwise is timely, easy to work with, and there is always a representative to talk to,” said Kerunsky, acknowledging that when things go like clockwork, it’s easier for yacht owners to pursue the wilder of their dreams . In fact, when Mystery Ship arrives in the port town of Golfito, located on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, the Kerunskys plan to continue their adventure, taking excursions up and down the Costa Rican coastline and into Panama , Nicaragua and El Salvador before they cruise to Mexico and then head home to Canada by the summer of 2014. “We’re looking forward to hiking through the rain forest in Costa Rica and getting into the whole rhythm of the countries we visit, experiencing the food and meeting the people.”

According to Jason Roberts, president of Aurora Global Logistics and DYT’s agent in Australia, Brisbane is an especially attractive port for both big game fishermen and those cruising on sailing or power yachts. “Australia’s east coast is a major draw for fishing, especially Far North Queensland, where anglers from all over the world come, hoping to catch a 1,000 pound Marlin and win the Port Douglas Marlin Challenge,” said Roberts . “As for superyachts, they can head north to the Great Barrier Reef or south to French Polynesia .” (DYT also directly services Papeete, Tahiti .)

After Super Servant 4 stopped in Brisbane, it picked up additional yachts in Auckland, including the Auckland-based VvS1, a 111.32-foot (33.94-meter) motor yacht ultimately destined for Palma de Mallorca.

“I’ve loaded previous boats on Dockwise for transatlantic voyages, so I knew the process,” said Andy Grocott (Auckland, New Zealand), who has been the captain of VvS1 for over six years . “Dockwise is reliable, on schedule, and the timing of the departure from Auckland has us arriving in Palma in good time for the Mediterranean charter season.”

Grocott explained that VvS1 was built at Alloy Yachts in Auckland and the boat has returned to the region the past six summers , “because it has a great marine infrastructure with marinas, shipyards, technicians, yacht agents and excellent cruising grounds.” He added that VvS1 spends the winters cruising the South Pacific – French Polynesia, Tonga, Wallis, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Queensland. “The owner, who has listed the boat for sale, is looking for new places to go, and when VvS1 arrives in Palma de Mallorca it will spend a few weeks there before heading to the south of France and then Turkey to begin its cruising season,” said Grocott . “VvS1 is capable of making the trip to the Med on her own bottom, but the time it would take, plus the cost of fuel and wear and tear on the vessel, makes transportation by Dockwise a better option.”

Float-on/Float-off Super Servant 4 is one of DYT’s owned and operated “float-on/float-off” yacht carriers. It uses a unique de-ballasting process that allows seawater to flood the ship’s dock bay to a draft required by the yachts to safely motor in from the stern of the ship. When the yachts are over their assigned positions and touch the wooden cribbing or rubber mat, divers place temporary supports upright as the ship slowly rises from the water until the deck is dry and the ship’s crew can begin the docking operation. With its cargo secure, the DYT ship leaves for its next destination, a veritable moving marina.

The company is also able to coordinate lift-on/lift-off voyages onboard third-party cargo ships when needing to service additional ports of call. In fact, to keep up with the adventurous appetites of its clients, DYT has confirmed an upcoming voyage that will commence in Singapore in mid- to late March and stop in Phuket ( Thailand ) and Malta along the way, with a final destination of Genoa ( Italy ) at the end of April.

DYT Superyacht Transport announces delivery of 214m Yacht Servant

The new edition to the dyt fleet is the world’s largest purpose-built semi-submersible transport vessel….

Image for article DYT Superyacht Transport announces delivery of 214m Yacht Servant

The official delivery took place at the Yantai CIMC Raffles Shipyard on China’s Shandong Peninsula, and it has subsequently embarked on its maiden voyage from Shanghai to Panama. Along with its 214m LOA, it has a beam of 46m and a 4.6m draft. According to a statement to the media, Yacht Servent is IMO Tier-III compliant, with a 30% increase in deck space compared to its sister ship - Yacht Express.

“We’re all hugely excited about the addition of Yacht Servant to our semi-submersible fleet,” says Richard Klabbers, Managing Director of DYT Superyacht Transport. “Her sheer size and volume allow for so much more capacity, and we’re looking forward to discovering how the vessel’s additional capabilities – such as onboard cranes, reduced board draft and increased submerged draft – will further what we can deliver.”

In a further explanation of the key features, the statement clarifies that Yacht Servent will use a float on/float system in a minimum of nine meters of water, compared to 14m across the rest of the DYT fleet; the safest and most efficient system for vessel loading, according to DYT. Additionally, Yacht Servent has a specialised deck located behind the bridge, built to accommodate tenders, containers and small race boats.

After completing its maiden voyage, Yacht Servent will return to China to transport cargo to Colombia during the yachting offseason, before arriving in the Caribbean in May to commence her sailing schedule between Florida, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.

“Last year was a challenge for the entire yacht transportation industry, with lockdowns and global uncertainties affecting travel the world over,” concludes Klabbers. “But our order books for 2022 are already encouragingly healthy, and with Yacht Servent now bringing our DYT fleet total to three vessels, we’ve made a hugely promising start to the new year.”

Five bodies found in sunken superyacht, officials say

ROME — Authorities have identified four bodies pulled from the sunken wreckage of a superyacht that sank off Sicily this week, Italian officials said Wednesday. A fifth body has been spotted but not yet reached, with a sixth person still missing.

Vincenzo Zagarola, an Italian coast guard official, said the four bodies brought ashore by divers were identified as two married couples: Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and charity trustee Judy Bloomer; and attorney Chris Morvillo and jeweler Neda Morvillo.

British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, were also reported missing after the Bayesian yacht sank early Monday.

The British-flagged, 183-foot-long Bayesian was carrying 12 passengers and 10 crew members roughly half a mile from the Sicilian fishing village of Porticello when it encountered what authorities called a “violent storm” about 4 a.m. Monday.

Of the 15 people rescued, eight — including a 1-year-old girl — were taken to hospitals in conditions that were not life-threatening. The body of the yacht’s chef, identified as Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian Antiguan, was found during initial recovery efforts.

Lynch, 59, is known for founding the tech venture capital firm Invoke Capital and co-founding the tech firms Autonomy and Darktrace. He was recently acquitted of all charges after a decade-long U.S. fraud trial related to the 2011 sale of Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard; the voyage on the Bayesian, owned by a company controlled by Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, was intended to be a celebration of his legal victory, Britain’s Telegraph reported . Bacares was one of those rescued.

Many of the guests on board had business or legal ties to Lynch: Chris Morvillo, a partner at Clifford Chance in New York, represented Lynch in the concluded legal battle.

It’s not clear exactly what type of storm struck the Bayesian, but weather data suggests it was probably a tornadic waterspout or severe thunderstorm.

Charlotte Golunski, a guest of Lynch who was rescued, described to Italian media holding on to her 1-year-old daughter , Sophie, amid the storm. “For two seconds I lost my baby in the sea,” she told Giornale di Sicilia. “Then I immediately hugged her again amid the fury of the waves.”

Lynch sold Autonomy, which was once England’s biggest software company, to Hewlett-Packard in 2011 for more than $11 billion. He was subsequently accused of overvaluing the company and was charged in the United States with fraud. He was acquitted in June.

The Bayesian was built in 2008 by Italian shipmaker Perini Navi, according to the SuperYacht Times.

The Sir Robert, a Dutch-flagged sailing vessel anchored nearby, responded immediately to help survivors before the Italian coast guard arrived.

The yacht sank to a depth of more than 160 feet. The first attempt by fire-brigade cave divers to search inside the yacht was unsuccessful, rescue authorities said .

Sands reported from London and Taylor from Washington. Bryan Pietsch in Anchorage contributed to this report.
