The Gemini 105Mc is the third version of a proven design from Tony Smith that began production in Annapolis in the 1990s. It's a spacious, stable platform for a fast-cruising couple. First build of the 105Mc was 2003 and the last build was 2011. Many improvements were made along the way.

Description
Coastal Cruising Performance and Shallow-Water Capability!
Ursa is the brainchild of Tony Smith, renowned catamaran designer and founder of Performance Cruising, which is now known as Gemini Catamarans. Aimed at the cruising market, the Gemini 3400 brought an incredible volume of space, a relatively small but efficient sailplan, and the ability to dock this spacious vessel in a regular-sized slip! In addition, she features kick-up rudders and centerboards on each hull, which allow better performance under sail but also the ability to get into the shallowest waters with ease.
Ursa has a single helm station with Raymarine autopilot and GPS. The aft cockpit features cushioned bench seating surrounding the helm; a perfect place for enjoying a sail or spending time with friends and family on the water. These seats double as storage lockers and provide access to fuel tanks and equipment. A Honda 4-stroke outboard with less than 100 hours powers Ursa when the sails are stowed, and the owner reports that she moves along fairly briskly under power. Fuel is contained in two-18 gallon tanks, and an additional reserve tank has six extra gallons--with fuel burn at just about one gallon per hour, Ursa has an incredible motoring range. Notably, the hulls are constructed of solid fiberglass for strength and ease of maintenance, and the deck is cored to add the rigidity needed for respectable sailing performance. Rather than use a trampoline, the 3400 has a solid bridge deck which makes moving around easy and safe. Her double-spreader mast is deck-stepped, and is easy to access for raising/striking sail and reefing. A roller furling working jib and aft-led controls makes the sailing simple, and when it's time to strike the main, there is a built-in stacking sail cover to keep the sail contained! The bow has two opening hatches for anchor and gear storage, and a through-deck hawsepipe and multiple cleats give you versatility for anchoring and docking.
Like all catamarans, the interior volume really impresses. You are met with a large central settee with seating for 8-10 around a table with dual foldouts. Air conditioning and reverse-cycle heat keeps you comfortable in a wide range of seasons, and the large, nearly household-sized 120v AC refrigerator has plenty of room for provisions. The owner has opted for a larger refrigerator, but preserved the original propane connections for off-grid refrigeration capability. A TV/entertainment center rounds out the comfortable settee area--a great place for relaxing.
To starboard, a long, pullman-style galley with cavernous amounts of storage provides a secure location for meal preparation. A two-basin sink is flanked by an icebox and 2-burner stove with an oven. A microwave rounds out the cooking devices. Aft of the galley is a cabin with a twin-size berth. This cabin has a hanging locker, plenty of ventilation and light, and makes a great sea berth or kids cabin. Forward is access to the master suite with an elevated queen-size mattress, a bureau/dressing area with ample storage, and forward-looking windows with privacy curtains.
To port, another aft cabin mirrors its counterpart to starboard, but as you move forward you have a large teak chart table. Proper chart tables are rare these days, so having a place to roll out a full-sized paper chart, or a workbench for repairs is wonderful to have aboard. Best of all, there is more storage underneath and behind--perfect for spares, equipment, or anything that needs a home on board. Forward is the head with standing shower. A unique feature is the on-demand propane hot water system. Lastly, a composting toilet keeps the systems simple and clean, and provides the ability to cruise extensively without the need for regular pumpouts.
Ursa has been well loved by her previous owners! She has a Great Lakes Loop trip under her keel, and in addition, has done a fair bit of cruising through most of the Great Lakes. Her decks show her age in places, and small gelcoat cracks can be found, but her hull skins are dry and serviceable based on moisture meter and percussive testing. If you're looking for cruising cat performance in a package that can fit inside a slip in your marina, Ursa is worth your consideration!

Patrick Kelly grew up on the west side of Cleveland, Ohio. After taking a local Learn to Sail class as a young teenager, he was hooked and has been on the water ever since. While attending The Ohio State University, he was a member of the sailing team, competing around the midwest. Boating has been a way of life for Patrick; he participates on several racing crews, and holds a USCG Master License. In addition, he is an FAA licensed commercial pilot.
When not racing, Patrick enjoys cruising around the great lakes with his partner Jennifer and their children. He volunteers his spare time to promote junior sailing programs, and enjoys watching his son sail on the Edgewater Yacht Club Junior Race Team.

The Gemini 3400 is an all fiberglass hull featuring three main berth areas for six and optional sleeping for two to three additional on the main cabin settee. This catamaran is laid out with no wasted space and the maximum amount of ventilation and natural light. She is a delight to sail in our shallow coastal waters or of crusing in the Bahamas.
The master cabin has a queen size double berth and each of the aft cabins sleep two adults.
The head and shower are on the port side forward.
The starboard side galley features a double bowl stainless steel sink with pressurized hot and cold water. There is also a foot pump. Their is a 3CF 110v/12v refrigator that is new and undercounter space for installing additional refrigation for extended cruising.Lots of cabinets for storage. The two burner stove and oven are propane fueled and there is a microwave oven as well.
Two new marine batteries, one switch panel with 6 circuit breakers, seven interior lights and one 12v outlet. There are also 120v oulets as well. 30 amp. Guest battery charger. 30amp shore power cord included.
Autohelm 2005, ST60 Tridata, St 6002 Autopilot, ST60 Wind. Standard Horizon VHF radio and Aqua Meter Compass at the helm.
Tahatso Model TLDI 40hp outboard motor new in 2006. Has only 50 hours. The fuel tanks hold 42 total gals.
Forward is the anchor locker with two anchors. Additional forward deck locker with an inflatible dingy and sail/line storage all self draining. All rigging is stainless steel. There are two cockpit lockers and two additional lockers adjacent to the molded transom steps with a swim platforms at the stern. Four Bomar hatches with screens. Four fenders. The pilot house has a canvas canopy and other canvas covers for the exterior windows.
The mainsail is 270sf with a working jib of 220sf. Both are original and in good working order. Two Lemar two speed winches. All working and standing rigging are in good working order.
Both wood center boards and rudders have been replaced with man made material construction and are adjustable with kick ups in case of groundings.

The Gemini 3400 added molded transom step and adjustable underhung rudders. Either inboard or outboard engine. Semi-circular hulls and full transom offer maximum load-carrying with good performance and a comfortable ride. The easily-adjusted centerboards go almost unnoticed in the interior. Boards up she draws a mere 18 inches. With board down she grips the water for windward work. Under sail five degrees is the normal heel; at anchor or while motoring, perfectly flat. Wheel steering with molded pilothouse for protection and lowering windows for visibility.

| Construction: | Molded hull and deck with large single interior mold over the bridgedeck coming back from the forward bulkhead to the aft lockers. Glassed into the bridgedeck prior to lifting. Hull and deck are mechanically and chemically bonded with a polyester putty and bolts and backing nuts every four inches with a double gunwhale guard over the bond. Hull is laminate of woven roving and matt with polyester resin over an initial layer of gel coat with vinylester resin and a veil of fiberglass fabric for blister protection. Deck has half inch end grain balsa sandwich on the foredeck, around cockpit and across the cabin top. Deck fitting are drilled through solid glass. |
