The quicker, tried-and-true approach was to construct a toerail and through-bolt it on top of the joint; on Avocet, the 41-foot-long, 1¼-inch by 4-inch toerail was bent into place and drilled every 12 inches down through the wood, the deck, and the hull shelf before finally being bolted in place. And in that final step—bolting—lay the rub.

I am considering this for the fall but trying to get some background before investing money and time. The boat is a 1979 Sabre MKI 34. It is a teak toe rail. I have the spec from sabre and can have a local shop mill the rail and generate the plugs. The other option would be to replace with an aluminum rail.

It might take a weekend just to get it off, depending upon how much of it needs rebedding and what you find as it comes up. Good luck.

Whisker Pole Questions
You might be able to use yours by clipping one end to the toe rail as outbound suggests. I believe a good whisker pole for a 150% genoa on your boat would be a Forespar ADJ 7-17. One would need a topping lift for the heavy pole that would be used on a bigger boat, but you shouldn't need a topping lift for a small pole like the ADJ 7-17.
