We like going one size over what is often recommended for smaller boats. The advantages are a.Less stretch. Nylon can be too stretchy, but polyester not stretchy enough. One size over can be a Goldilocks answer. b.Better wear resistance. Because we like using short chain when hand-hauling, we cover the first 10 feet with a webbing chafe guard. This is very cut resistant, because unlike the rope inside, it is floating and not under tension. c. Better grip. ⅜-in. is pretty hard to grab with the wind is up. ½-in. fits our hands better. Chrysler 22

One of just a few boats ever built by a car company, this trailer sailer still looks good today..

Chrysler 22

We’re still not sure if there’s a nationwide resurgence of interest in trailer sailers, but judging from the mail we receive, it certainly seems so. One of the used boats often mentioned is the Chrysler 22. It, like the 15′ Man O’War, 15′ Mutineer, 16′ 6″ Musketeer catamaran, 18′ Buccaneer and Chrysler 26 trailerable cruising sloop, were built by Chrysler Corporation’s Marine Products Group in Detroit, Michigan.

According to the BUC Research Used Boat Price Guide, Chrysler first offered recreational boats in 1957, building three aluminum runabouts and cruisers from 16′ to 21′. Its first fiberglass boat was the Caribbean 19′ cruiser in 1958. The Buccaneer was the first sailboat in the Chrysler line, introduced in 1971. The Chrysler 22 appeared in 1975. Just when Chrysler stopped building it is uncertain, but according to BUC, 1979 was the last year; we have not received information from readers owning boats built later than that, so perhaps ’79 was indeed the finale.

Two readers who responded to a 1995 appeal for information on Chrysler sailboat parts agreed that in the mid-80s Chrysler sold the molds and rights to the Starwind Division of Wellcraft Marine in Sarasota, Florida. Wellcraft is a large builder of powerboats. Starwind, according to one reader, “tooled up a more conventional deck mold and evidently sold some boats before it went under. That reader said a former Chrysler employee told him that the assets were purchased by a Brazilian-owned company in Florida which relocated back to Brazil. Another reader says that Wellcraft sold the molds and rights to Spindrift, which sold them to Rebel, which “was in the process of going out of business.” A third reader says it was produced for a time as the TMI 22 (Texas Marine International, which according to yet another source, bought the molds from Chrysler and in turn sold them to Wellcraft). No one seems to know where the molds are today.

The Chrysler 22 was designed by Halsey Herreshoff, now the city manager of Bristol, Rhode Island, the town where Nathaniel Herreshoff built so many great boats at the turn of the century. Halsey has designed a number of interesting boats, including the original hull for the Freedom 40.

The 22 was conceived as a trailer sailer with a swing keel that draws just 1′ 11″ up, though a fixed keel drawing 3′ 9″ also was available.

To maximize interior volume, the deck is more or less flush, though highly cambered. The deck fairs into the cockpit coaming, which leads cleanly into the backrests. There is a partial bridgedeck, unusual for a boat like this. The companionway widens at the coachroof to make cabin access more convenient. A pop top was optional, but these are always prone to leaking; a number of readers said they seldom use theirs.

Somewhat unusual is the inboard rudder, which pivots up for shallow water. There are numerous complaints about its sturdiness; and one reader said it is positioned too far forward.

The mast is mounted on a hinge and an early ad says there is a mast carrier to “make rigging simple.”

The boat displaces anywhere from 2,650 lbs. to 3,000 lbs. (depending on which brochure you believe), a bit heavier than most trailer sailers of this length. The Catalina 22, for example, displaces 1,850 lbs., the O’Day 22 and Venture 22 both 1,800 lbs. Ballast is 725 lbs., which is a lot of weight to carry in a swing keel.

Chrysler 22

Construction

The hull is of hand-laid fiberglass with a full inner liner. Foam flotation was standard. One owner said the core is Nomex; this is an aircraft honeycomb that achieved some notoriety for its use in the Stiletto 27 catamaran. Airex coring was reported by another owner. The owner of a 1977 model said the “deck has a brown water soluble glue throughout, that when it rains seeps into the cabin.”

While owners rate quality of construction as above average to excellent, a number of problems were cited in our questionnaires. These include leaks at the keel pivot pin, broken rudders (the original rudderstocks and cheeks were aluminum, the former being hollow; some have been replaced with stainless), weak spreaders, and poor quality turnbuckles.

One owner replaced the bulkheads, which seems like a rather extreme measure. “The factory bulkheads are probably strong enough,” he said, “but I replaced all of them with much heavier material.”

On the plus side, nearly all agree that the hull is heavily laid up, and that the spars are larger sections than one would expect on a boat of this size. Fittings were said to be of satisfactory quality. The trailer supplied by Chrysler is only adequate; a number of owners said it would be better to buy a heavier-duty trailer elsewhere. A double-axle trailer with brakes is recommended.

In the October 1, 1995 issue, we published under “Spare Parts” a source for some Chrysler parts, given to us by Hooper’s Yachts, 599 Manning Ave. S., Afton, MN 55001; 612/436-8795.

Bill Hooper said that his yard has worked on many Chrysler boats over the years, and has found some parts from Cardinal Yachts, Rte. 3, Box 1080, Gloucester, VA 23061.

Performance

Many owners report that light air performance is not exactly sparkling, attributing this to the boat’s relatively heavy displacement. The sail area/displacement ratio of 16.5 isn’t bad, however. In fact, owners spacious who bought larger genoas (up to 170%) report significant increases in sailing speeds.

In terms of stability, initial tenderness was a frequent comment, though ultimate stability was not a concern. The boat is claimed to be self-righting, even with the keel up. “Goes to about 22 degrees quickly, then stops. Cannot put rail under,” said one owner. The few owners of fixed keel models noted how much stiffer their boats are than the swing keel models.

To get the most out of the boat, owners suggest playing with the keel angle (which helps minimize weather helm) and installing the usual sail handling devices: larger boom vang, down haul, better quality traveler and so on. Several said that the keel was not faired particularly well, and that grinding it smooth and fair produces a noticeable improvement in performance.

The same was said about converting to mid-boom sheeting.

In summary, the boat performs best in moderate winds, and by using the various controls available, it will balance reasonably well and sail at average speeds.

Auxiliary power is furnished by an outboard mounted on the transom bracket. Models mentioned include Honda 5 and 10, Johnson 6 and 9.9, Seagull 5, Chrysler 6 and 10, and Evinrude 9.9., all long shafts. The separate, sealed tank compartment is much admired. Remote controls are regarded as a great convenience as well as a safety feature.

Chrysler 22

The basic plan provides for a V-berth forward, convertible dinette to port and a berth/settee to starboard, which may be occupied at times by the optional slide out galley. The $375 cost of the galley unit was considered overpriced by at least one respondent.

Some have made their own.

The partial bulkheads give a sense of spaciousness, which is important in a small boat with just sitting headroom. The centerboard trunk is not too tall, but does have an effect on moving around. A few owners said they thought that the cockpit suffered at the expense of the interior; the tiller extends to the bridgedeck, meaning that everybody in the cockpit will be in the way of the helmsman.

As mentioned earlier, there is a full inner liner or pan that predetermines the location and use of most spaces. Nevertheless, many owners report customizing the interior. Most often mentioned is the making of their own galley module. A few have raised the bridgedeck to the cockpit seat level. A few have upgraded the electrical panel.

The large V-berth is an attractive feature, and probably worth the absence of a private head (a portable toilet is located underneath). The sloping deck does diminish headroom forward, however.

Chrysler 22

The Chrysler 22 is still much admired for its clean lines and good looks. The option list, as with many small boats of its day, was long: pulpits and lifelines, galley and water tank, portable cooler, outboard bracket, toilet, curtains, backstay adjuster, running lights, mainsail cover, cushions, boom vang and more. Presumably, most used boats on the market today have these “accessories.”

We have always enjoyed customizing our boats, but do so with extreme caution, because when it comes time to sell (and every boat is sold sooner or later), it could be difficult finding a buyer who likes the reclino-lounge chair and navigation table you’ve installed in place of the dinette! We’d be wary of buying a boat with oddball “upgrades.”

The area of most concern with the Chrysler 22 is the rudder and rudderstock; if it still has the original hollow aluminum stock, we’d plan on replacing it. This probably will require some custom metalwork from a shop.

One should be able to buy a Chrysler 22 for somewhere between $4,000 and $5,000, depending on condition and equipment, the trailer and motor being the two most important pieces of extra gear. For an introduction to the joys of cruising, we think it’s one of the better mid-70s trailer sailers, though we’d also take a good look at a couple of other boats: the Tanzer 22 and O’Day 23.

Cardinal Yachts, Harry Sindle was building the Mutineer and Buccaneer in Ware Neck Virginia in the early 90’s I also saw a few Rhodes 22’s and Hamptons.

Does the Chrysler 22 have a drain plug? I’m looking at one that’s been sitting for several years, water about 6” over the floor.

1. Get a siphon hose placed low in the boat and draw out the water into the low end of the cockpit. 2. Get a half gallon plastic water pitcher. Sit inside the cabin with your feet in the water and begin bailing into the cockpit. 3. Get a small 12 volt bilge pump or baitwell pump and drop it into the water.

Hi All, I bought a C-22 a few years ago, the water in the bottom was from the swing keel fittings leaking. I would recommend replacing the fittings and pin, don’t worry the fittings are made of pipe flange & fittings. Also to prevent keel klunk and the keel wearing thru the hull i used a nylon cutting board to fill the gap on each side of the swing pin. using 3M 4200 adhesive its worked fine. the adhesive needs to be used once its opened so have everything cut and fitted. I just got on this site today, our long winter at lake Superior has tested my patience……I’ve also started a u-tube channel with some random vidieos, I promise to have more instructional vidieos this year including the sail pack and new solar panel installation i made “Sailing Lake Superior George Kramer”

Mutineer 15

Mutineer 15 is a 14 ′ 11 ″ / 4.6 m monohull sailboat designed by J.R. (Rod) Macalpine-Downie and Dick Gibbs and built by Nickels Boat Works, Inc., Texas Marine International, and Chrysler Marine starting in 1972.

Rig and Sails

Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

  • SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
  • D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
  • LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
  • LOA: Length overall in feet
  • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

Review of Mutineer 15

Basic specs..

The hull is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season. And outside the sailing season, just bottom cleaning and perhaps anti-fouling painting once a year - a few hours of work, that's all.

The boat equipped with a fractional rig. A fractional rig has smaller headsails which make tacking easier, which is an advantage for cruisers and racers, of course. The downside is that having the wind from behind often requires a genaker or a spinnaker for optimal speed.

CentreBoard

The Mutineer 15 is equipped with a centreboard keel. A centreboard keel is a pivoting lifting keel, allowing to sail both coastal and inland waters.

The boat can sail close to the beach as the draft is just 0.20 - 0.30 meter (0.66 - 0.96 ft) dependent of the load. See immersion rate below.

Sailing characteristics

This section covers widely used rules of thumb to describe the sailing characteristics. Please note that even though the calculations are correct, the interpretation of the results might not be valid for extreme boats.

The immersion rate is defined as the weight required to sink the boat a certain level. The immersion rate for Mutineer 15 is about 52 kg/cm, alternatively 294 lbs/inch. Meaning: if you load 52 kg cargo on the boat then it will sink 1 cm. Alternatively, if you load 294 lbs cargo on the boat it will sink 1 inch.

Sailing statistics

This section is statistical comparison with similar boats of the same category. The basis of the following statistical computations is our unique database with more than 26,000 different boat types and 350,000 data points.

What is L/B (Length Beam Ratio)?

Nickels Boat Works

Mutineer 15

Couldn't load pickup availability

The Nickels Mutineer 15 represents a complete rebuild of the innovative 1971 design developed by Rod MacAlpine-Downie and Dick Gibbs. The Nickels Mutineer 15 is the first new Mutineer seen since the early 1980’s and the first to demonstrate the high quality and superior workmanship of Nickels Boat Works. Originally introduced by Chrysler as a beginner’s daysailer this sailboat, with its roller furling and spinnaker launcher, provides sailors with the excitement and challenge of skippering a truly responsive boat. Designed to be comfortably sailed by four adults the Mutineer 15 can be easily handled by a racing crew of two and single-handed single handed by the intermediate sailor.

The Nickels Mutineer 15 comes fully equipped. The boomvang, cunningham and jib uphaul system provide a full array of sail shaping tools. The fully sealed air tanks and positive floatation provide the safety expected in a Nickels sailboat. Neil Pryde has been chosen to provide sails for the Nickels Mutineer with their high quality sails (North, Quantum, Shurr, and Vermont Sail Sailing Partners sails are also available). Ronstan hardware has been used extensively to provide smooth operation of many of the sail handling operations with Harken hardware for other operations. Adjustable side stays are standard on the Nickels Mutineer.

I’ve had a Mutineer for the past 4 years, but recently sold it, and am looking for insights about whether to wait for another Mutt to come available locally, or try a different type of boat for day sailing on local lakes.

Does anyone have thoughts about a Mutt vs some of the options which I’ve seen:

Thanks in advance for your help.

This is great – based on what I know about Mutts and comparing it to what you’ve shared below, it confirms why I love the feel and mobility of the Mutt on our lake – and will continue watching for one to purchase.

Thank you!

This is great – based on what I know about Mutts and comparing it to what you’ve shared below, it confirms why I love the feel and mobility of the Mutt on our lake – and will continue watching for one to purchase.

Thank you!

Chrysler Mutineer Bailer?

  • Add to quote

I restored a Mutt and when I went to launch it off the trailer I forgot to raise the bailer and jeopardized the integrity of the nylon insert (screwed it up). Does anyone know who made these? They are round and you push them down to bail water and pull up to close?

contact Nickels Boatworks or Nickels Boats or something like that. They build the current models and should have info for older boats. Good luck.

I have, and they do not have any and know what I am talkig about, but do not know who the mfr was.....I am looking for a plunger type bailer that was utilized on Chrysler Buccaneers, Mutineers and Man O Wars....

RigRite carries some odd older stuff. If they can't help it looks like you're in scrounge or replacement mode.

I found the attached .xls file on one of the websites featuring the Bucanneer. I cannot give proper credit to the author as I no longer have the link. Perhaps he or she will see this and come forward to take credit and comment. It's possible the author was "GLEN" who signed the attached .doc file which is a similar text description. I used this to fabricate a pair of these. Sorry, no photos as I later sold the boat. My version was made with a diferent pvc fitting I found which slip fit the inside diameter of the stainless steel housing which eliminated the need for the "A" and "B" O-ring. I also undercut the pvc for the "C" O-ring and used a little rubber cement to hold it in place. Worked as well as the original but they all leak a little. OK, so the attachments won't attach. PM me and we'll find a way.

I was searching for old Mutineer Class information and found this. I can't retrieve my files from my dead computer and wanted to send information to the new owner. Send me the doc if you can. Thanks - Glen

History of Ryazan

Foundation of today’s ryazan.

The first settlements arose on the territory of today’s Ryazan as early as the Middle Paleolithic era (from 300,000 to 30,000 years ago). Near the city, in the village of Dubrovichi, archaeologists discovered a flint ax made more than 80 thousand years ago - the most ancient material monument found in the Ryazan region.

Slavic tribes, in this case the Vyatichi, came to the Oka around the 6th century AD. Already in the 7th-8th centuries, a whole network of settlements was founded around the future Ryazan. These people were mainly engaged in arable farming.

Until the middle of the 10th century, the Vyatichi, like several other East Slavic tribal unions, were politically dependent on the Khazar Khaganate (650-969). The Old Russian state played the decisive role in its decline. In 964, Prince Svyatoslav freed the last Slavic tribe of the Vyatichi dependent on the Khazars. The Ryazan and Murom lands were included into the Old Russian state.

The presence of several large settlements on this territory led to the need to create a single military center. In 1095, the town of Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky was founded on a high hill at the confluence of the Trubezh and Lybid rivers.

More Historical Facts…

Ryazan in the 12th-17th centuries

At the beginning of the 12th century, the Ryazan lands separated into an independent Murom-Ryazan principality. It was a time of rivalry between its two largest towns - Ryazan and Murom - for the right to be the capital of the new principality.

As a result, Ryazan, which was located about 50 km down the Oka River from Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky, won, since it was here that the princely court was taking place, the episcopal see was located, feudal unions were concluded, from here the princely troops went on military campaigns. Moreover, Ryazan was well fortified. Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky by this time was one of the fortified outposts of the principality, surrounded by a network of guard posts.

In the winter of 1237, a large Mongol army (tens of thousands of people) approached the walls of Ryazan. This was one of the first episodes of the Mongol invasion of Rus and the western campaign of the Mongols. The town was captured after several days of siege.

The main military forces of the principality were defeated earlier in the battle on the Voronezh River. Ryazan with a population of up to 8 thousand people was completely destroyed. It was never able to recover and soon the few surviving residents left it. Today, this place is known as Old Ryazan. The capital of the principality was moved to Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky.

By the 14th century, Pereyaslavl was finally formed as the capital of the principality. The heart of the town was the fortress (kremlin) with wooden walls and twelve towers. At the beginning of the 15th century, the construction of the Ryazan Kremlin with stone buildings began. In 1611, during the Time of Troubles, Ryazan initiated the convening of the first people’s militia to free Moscow from the Poles. The Ryazan nobleman Prokopiy Lyapunov was elected its head.

Ryazan in the 18th-19th centuries

In 1778, with the formation of the Ryazan Governorship, Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky received the name Ryazan and its own coat of arms depicting the figure of the Prince with a sword in his hand. In 1780, the regular plan of Ryazan was approved.

The ensemble of the Ryazan Kremlin with the beautiful Assumption Cathedral (1693-1699) remained the center of the town. In 1787, an opera and drama theater, one of the oldest in Russia, was opened in Ryazan. By the end of the 18th century, about 8 thousand people lived in Ryazan.

In 1837, a large fire destroyed a lot of wooden buildings. The construction of new stone buildings began, including artillery barracks (the building of the hospital on Pervomaisky Avenue). In 1860, about 21.6 thousand people lived in Ryazan. In 1863, a railway line connected Ryazan with Moscow. Ryazan became a major railway hub. By 1897, the population of the city was 46 thousand people.

Ryazan in the 20th century

In 1913, the city power plant was put into operation. In December 1915, the first female teacher’s institute in the Russian Empire was founded in Ryazan. In 1930, after the liquidation of the Ryazan Governorate, Ryazan became a district center of Moscow Oblast. In 1937, it became the administrative center of the newly formed Ryazan Oblast. In 1939, its population was about 95,000.

In the fall of 1941, during the Second World War, the front line reached the Ryazan region. Ryazan was of great strategic importance, as highways connecting Moscow with the central and eastern regions of the country passed through it. German troops were stopped 30 kilometers from the city.

The rapid development of Ryazan began immediately after the war. The city turned into a large industrial, scientific, and military center of the European part of Russia, home to giant factories that occupied entire urban districts: the Ryazan oil refinery (the largest in Europe), “Ryazselmash” (the only manufacturer of potato harvesting equipment in the USSR), the calculating and analytical machine plant, the heavy forging and pressing equipment plant, the chemical fiber plant, etc.

Several large universities were opened in Ryazan - a medical university, a radio engineering academy, an agricultural institute, and an institute of culture. The military potential of the city was finally formed. Ryazan becomes the main training center for the Soviet Airborne Forces. The city was surrounded by numerous training centers and military training grounds.

Greening became one of the city’s fundamental development strategies. Ryazan was surrounded by green rings of forests and parks. Large parks were laid out in every district of the city. Ryazan was repeatedly declared the winner in greening among the cities of the Soviet Union. By 1987, the city’s population exceeded half a million people.

During the years of Soviet power, the population of Ryazan grew more than fivefold. The city participated in the state program for providing housing to builders of the North - a lot of workers of enterprises located beyond the Arctic Circle subsequently received apartments and registration in the city. Some decline in growth was observed in the 1990s, coinciding with the general demographic decline in Russia. In 1995, Ryazan celebrated its 900th anniversary.

Ryazan - Features

Ryazan, one of the oldest cities in Central Russia, is located in the center of the East European Plain, in the northwestern part of Ryazan Oblast. It is included in the so-called inner ring of large cities located 150-200 km from Moscow.

About 50 km downstream of the Oka River there is a historical and landscape museum-reserve Old Ryazan - the old capital of the Great Ryazan principality. The present city (initially known as Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky) was renamed in its honor in 1778.

The climate of the city is moderately continental. Summer in Ryazan is warm, winter is moderately cold. The average temperature in July is plus 19.2 degrees Celsius, in February - minus 7.9 degrees Celsius.

The coat of arms and flag of Ryazan represent the image of the Prince holding a silver sword in his right hand, and a silver scabbard in his left. The sword raised to the chest symbolizes defense. The Prince is a collective image of the defender of the Motherland and has nothing to do with a specific person. The City Day of Ryazan is celebrated on the first Saturday in August.

The favorable economic and geographical position of Ryazan on the navigable Oka River, proximity to Moscow predetermined the significant development of the city. Ryazan is crossed by the M5 Ural Highway, railway lines to the south and to the center of Russia. The leading local industries are tool making, machine tool building, power engineering, petrochemistry, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, building materials industry, woodworking, food and flour-and-cereal industries.

Main Attractions of Ryazan

Ryazan Kremlin - the oldest part of Ryazan, a historical and architectural open-air museum-reserve, an architectural monument of federal importance. The construction of stone fortifications in Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky (today’s Ryazan) began in the 15th century. The main structures built in the 17th century have survived to this day. In total, the Ryazan Kremlin ensemble includes 18 monuments of history and culture of the 11th-19th centuries. You can reach it by any public transport that goes to Sobornaya Square.

Assumption Cathedral (1663-1699) - the main dominant of the Ryazan Kremlin built in the Naryshkin Baroque style. The stylized image of this cathedral is one of the symbols of Ryazan. The Assumption Cathedral and its bell tower are built in such a way that they can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. For a long time, they served as a visual reference point when navigating on the Oka River. Inside there is a magnificent 27-meter iconostasis, consisting of 7 tiers and decorated with stone carvings - a real masterpiece of decorative art.

Nativity of Christ Cathedral - the first stone building on the territory of the Ryazan Kremlin and one of the oldest buildings in Ryazan Oblast. The cathedral was founded by the Grand Prince Oleg Ryazansky on the territory of his court at the end of the 14th century. In the 14th-15th centuries, five Ryazan princes and three princesses were buried in the Nativity of Christ Cathedral. As a result of numerous reconstructions, the current architectural appearance of this cathedral combines elements of baroque and classicism.

Palace of Prince Oleg - the largest civil building on the territory of the Ryazan Kremlin, which was built in stages over the 17th-19th centuries. Until the 16th century, a princely court with bishops chambers was located here. Today, the premises of the palace house the exposition “From Rus to Russia”, as well as exhibitions “Old Ryazan” and “The Legend of Evpatiy Kolovrat”.

Soborny (Cathedral) Park - a public garden located near the Ryazan Kremlin, where residents and visitors of the city like to stroll in the shade of trees. The most convenient way to get to Soborny Park is from Sobornaya Square, through the front entrance with columns. The main alley of this park leads to the Ryazan Kremlin and the Ryazan Embankment. There are several interesting sights here: the Church of the Savior on Yar, Ilyinsky Cathedral, the monument to Sergei Yesenin, the chapel of the 900th anniversary of Ryazan. It is a place where you can buy Ryazan souvenirs, ride horses.

Ryazan Art Museum named after Ivan Pozhalostin - one of the oldest art museums in Russia. The collection includes about 12,000 works of Russian and Western European art of the late 15th-20th centuries: paintings, graphics, sculptures, decorative and applied art, folk art. The collection of Western European art includes paintings by Italian, Dutch, French artists, porcelain from Germany, France, and England.

The collection of Russian art includes Old Russian icons and sculptures, Russian paintings, sculptures and graphics of the 18th-20th centuries, including works by local artists, porcelain, glass, and furniture. A significant section of the collection is the folk art of the Ryazan land: costumes, weaving, embroidery, lace, ceramics, clay toys. Svobody Street, 57.

Museum of the History of the Airborne Forces - the first and largest official museum on this subject. On both sides of the entrance, on the pedestals, you can see combat vehicles, artillery and airborne self-propelled guns. The basis of the exposition is made up of banners of airborne divisions and brigades that participated in the Second World War, examples of Russian and foreign small arms, parachutes, military equipment. Margelova Square, 1. The historical and memorial hall of military equipment and weapons of the Airborne Forces, a branch of this museum, is located at Voyennykh Avtomobilistov Street, 12.

Memorial Museum-Estate of Academician Ivan Pavlov - one of the most famous sights of Ryazan located in its center. The complex consists of picturesque wooden buildings, among which there is a two-storey house of the early 20th century, where the world famous physiologist Ivan Pavlov, the first Russian Nobel Prize winner, lived. Inside, the historic interior was recreated with Pavlov’s personal belongings. Pavlova Street, 25.

Summer Club of the Noble Assembly (1905) - a beautiful wooden house decorated with skillful carvings, the main decoration of the Ryazan City Park. Until 1917, the local aristocracy met here to chat, discuss current events, or just relax on pleasant summer evenings. Today, it houses the center of folk art. Uritskogo Street, 72.

Sculpture “Mushrooms with Eyes” - an interesting sculpture dedicated to the famous Ryazan proverb about mushrooms - “In Ryazan, mushrooms have eyes.” Allegedly, because of this, it is difficult to gather mushrooms in the surrounding forests. The art object depicts a whole family: a father mushroom and his two sons surrounded by forest dwellers. It was installed on the territory of the Lower City Garden in 2013. Lenina Street, 26.

Long-range aviation museum at the Dyagilevo air base . The exposition of this thematic museum and exhibition complex brings together a large number of objects related to the history of the development and use of military aviation of the USSR and Russia: combat aircraft, examples of weapons and equipment, uniforms, equipment, personal belongings and awards of pilots, documents, maps, photographs, etc. It is located about 11 km west of Ryazan. A visit to this museum is possible only as part of an excursion group (5+ people) and by prior arrangement. The tour takes two hours and you can take pictures for free.

Sergei Yesenin Museum-Reserve in Konstantinovo . This museum complex located about 40 km from Ryazan is devoted to one of the most well-known Russian poets of the 20th century. The main building is the wooden house of the poet’s parents, where his personal belongings and old photographs of the family are kept. In the 1980s, a whole ensemble of museum buildings was formed in Konstantinovo, which included the estate of L. I. Kashina with an adjoining park, a village school building, the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, and other objects.

Starozhilovsky Stud Farm . It was founded by order of Baron von Dervies in the 1890s. The stud farm building constructed in the Gothic style by the architect Fyodor Shekhtel is of particular interest. Unfortunately, during the Second World War, during the evacuation across the Oka, all the horses died. Today, about 300 horses are kept here. The stud farm is located about 55 km south of Ryazan in the village of Starozhilovo.

The questions of our visitors

The comments of our visitors.

I came to Ryazan in 1990 to fly hot air balloons! We all had great time and your hospitality was wonderful. Our translator was a girl called Olga who later came to visit us, with her mother, in the UK.

I never realised the incredible history of the area when I was there. It was such a short stay. I'm getting older now but will never forget your kindness. Maybe I'll plan another visit!

Great to read your website, I'm glad I found it. When Olga visited she gave us three small glass hedgehogs as a present which I still have and I was trying to find their origin! If you know Olga and mum say hallo from me!

  1. Buccaneer 18 vs Mutineer 15

Buccaneer 18 The Sailing Experience. The Mutineer is, quite literally, the Bucc 18 with the last three feet cut off (and a shorter rig). No kidding -- they just took a Bucc mold & moved the transom in 36". Everything else is identical. That means the Bucc will plane easier, cuz it has those flat (ish) aft sections to ride on.

  5. Capri 14.2 vs Hobie Holder 14 vs Chrysler Mutineer

Dehlert, I agree, the community and existing manufacturer aspects are key! That rules out the Hobie holder. I'm still a little torn between the Mutineer and Capri, but I'm leaning a little more towards the Mutt partially because someone bought the 1988 Mod I Capri 14.2 that was for sale in Virginia Beach. Haha, I'm assuming that was you.
