Our guide to Fife’s finest yachts
Every five years yachts built at the William Fife yard at Fairlie on the Clyde return to race and celebrate the design genius of their creator. Here’s our guide…
What a week of extremes! The Fife Regatta in Scotland, the fourth of this quinquennial event, packed in enough wind, weather and excitement to challenge the timbers of these most beautiful of classic yachts and the skills of their sailors. Within minutes, stern Scottish rain and wind up to 30 knots would give way to azure seas and sunlit mountains, headlands and islands – surely the most scenic and unspoiled sailing imaginable in those conditions.
There were duels aplenty, including a memorable one between the schooner Astor, here from California via the Caribbean and Gibraltar; Latifa, a canoe-sterned yawl sailed here from Italy; the 1931 8-Metre Saskia and the schooner Kentra, who has been relaunched after seven years ashore at Fairlie, the Fife yachts’ birthplace.
Another good battle during the week was between the Clyde Linear 30 Mikado, built in 1904, and the 8-Metre The Truant, 1910, kept locally and still sailing hard.
Yachting scribe Bob Fisher made an appearance sailing his dimunitive Mignon, having turned to the classics for his personal enjoyment, and Olympic champion Shirley Robertson took the helm of The Truant.
The oldest of the 20 boats was Ayrshire Lass, built by William Fife II in 1887, while Solway Maid, newly refurbished, was the last boat built by William Fife III at the Fairlie yard in 1938. Some of the big Med boats did not make it this time, but to have such an array of historic Fifes, seven of them over 100 years old, was an incredible achievement.
It’s also worth remembering that 40 years ago many of these yachts were just old boats, mouldering in the mud or fashioned into houseboats. The classic-boat revival has prompted not just a reappraisal but a surge of interest, passion, skills, knowledge and enjoyment, and the boats designed by the three generations of Fifes have been a vital spearhead of this interest. Who can fail to be moved by the power and artistry of their hull shapes, their exquisitely curved stems, or their voluminous sails?
Olin Stephens said that Fife boats are the most beautiful, and they can now be found around the world, but to see them sailing among the coasts and islands of their origin is incredibly moving. Several owners also reported their fastest ever sailing times, thanks to the constantly changing and challenging Clyde conditions.
Equally moving is the dedication of the owners who have brought them back to Scotland for this special regatta. Mario Pirri had brought Latifa all the way from Italy, and was sailing her during the regatta despite having broken his leg off Portugal on the way to the event (CB302, p19). Sadly, on the Wednesday his injury proved too much and he was re-hospitalised but is thankfully now making a recovery.
Latifa went on to win the regatta under local skipper Pete Wright, along with Jon Fitzgerald and a strong Clyde-based crew that Mario had invited to sail with him. Astor returned from the Pacific for the first time since she was built in 1923; Viola and the recently restored Ellad came from La Rochelle in France, and so the list goes on.
Over past and present regattas, 45 different Fifes have made their way to Fairlie, and with people like this and boats like this, the future of classic yachts, Fifes in particular, looks set to power ahead for years to come.
For more details, including galleries of the 2003 and 2008 events, go to www.fiferegatta.com . CB will be covering sailing on Ellad and her restoration soon.
The 105ft (32m) schooner has enjoyed a long and varied history, being built in 1923 for Kenneth MacKenzie Clark of the Paisley thread-making dynasty. After just a year she was sold to Charles Livingstone (of the Cunard shipping family) and then to the wife of LSD guru Timothy Leary. But her present owner Ernst Klaus rescued her from near oblivion around 20 years ago and took her to Fairlie Restorations in 1994, who put a copper bottom over her planking, on which she sailed around the world for five years. She celebrated her 75th birthday at the first Fife Regatta, and has just been relaunched at Fairlie after a spruce up in time for her 90th birthday. Our photo above shows Mr Klaus (second from left) with regatta organiser Fiona Houston (middle) with the folk from Astor and a cake of Latifa.
Tringa is a most perfectly executed gaff-rigged example of the famous Clyde 19/24 class, named for her length on the waterline and her measurement on deck. The class was formed in 1896, after the earlier 17/19 class was thought to have reached its full development with Fife’s Hatasoo (who competed in the 2003 Fife Regatta), which no other boat managed to beat. Helmut and Gisela Scharbaum have built this yacht in Germany, having first built a quarter-scale, radio-controlled model and, over the years, their working models have been their primary focus. In the hours after their day jobs, much research has been done and the full-sized replica that you see here has taken them 3½ years to build, launching in 2010. Every detail has been carefully crafted and she sails well too, as only one would expect.
This 86ft (26.2m) schooner was built of teak on oak frames in 1923 for an australian surgeon, who owned her until she was attacked by Japanese submarines in Sydney Harbour in 1942. Her third owner raced her extensively in the Sydney Hobart Race and came fourth in the 1963 Transpac. Her present owner has owned her for 26 years, sailing her extensively in the Pacific and then setting out from California in 2007 to sail through the Panama Canal to the Caribbean, winning the Concours d’Elegance at the antigua Classics in 2009, and spending the last 18 months in Gibraltar where a new engine has been fitted.
Although calamity struck her owner Mario Pirri (right), sailing solo on his way to the Clyde (see main story) this elegant 70ft (21.3m) canoe-sterned yawl built in 1936 won the regatta overall. She was a favourite of Fife III’s, and rightly so. She finished second in two Fastnets just after she was built and Mario has sailed her around the world, as well as completing over a dozen transatlantics, many of them singlehanded. The weather had conspired against her coming to the last Fife Regatta in 2008, but even Mario’s accident could not stop Latifa from snatching a well-deserved victory, just a single point ahead of Astor, in Class 1.
Rediscovered in an Irish potato patch in 1963, The Truant was sailed hard for some years and then given to the owner’s godson – who wouldn’t want a 1910 Fife 8-Metre as a present? However, the boat was in need of a complete restoration and Ross Ryan was starting out as an artist, without the funds to do the job. Years later she was restored locally by Adam Way. The Truant was commissioned by Ralph Gore, Commodore of the Royal Yacht Squadron, who won many races in her. In 1912 she was UK class winner, as well as European champion in Stockholm, and she remained there during WWI, moving to Norway and then Ireland, where she was used for cruising. She has a relatively full body, good for the bouts of heavy weather encountered during the week.
Oblio is a gaff cutter built in 2007 by the boatyard of Hubert Stagnol in bénodet, France. The lines are from an 1899 design by William Fife III, and she is as fast and bonnie as one would expect from the designer. Her owner, Gordon Turner, sailed her well all week, even gybing her in heavy winds when most boats were tacking.

Are these the 8 most beautiful classic sailing yachts of all time?
Moonbeam of fife iii, 1903.
The 30 metre, gaff cutter Moonbeam of Fife III epitomises beautiful classic yachts at their finest. Launched in 1903, Moonbeam of Fife is still going strong on the classic yacht regatta circuit despite being more than a hundred years old. The William Fife-designed yacht is constructed in wood with an oak hull and superstructure, while her interior joinery is well-kept mahogany. The historical yacht Moonbeam of Fife III is currently for sale .
Tuiga, 1909
Built by the renowned William Fife shipyard in Fairlie on the Clyde estuary in Scotland, Tuiga was commissioned by the Duke of Medinaceli, a close friend of the King of Spain, Alfonso XIII, and has had 10 owners in 106 years. HSH Prince Albert II decided to buy her in 1995. Tuiga has been participating in classic yacht regattas ever since and is now the flagship of the Yacht Club de Monaco, crewed by YCM members.
Mariette, 1915
The classic 42 metre twin-masted schooner _ Mariette of 1915 _was built by Herreshoff in the United States 100 years ago. Age has not withered her, but Mariette of 1915 has undergone a few refits in the Pendennis yard at Falmouth in recent years: in 2010 and again in 2012 in preparation for the Pendennis Cup, in which she took first prize in the St Petroc Traditional Class as well as being crowned overall winner. In 2014 she returned to Falmouth once more for minor works.
Creole, 1927
Now owned by the Gucci family, this beautiful wooden schooner has had a colourful history. Commissioned by wealthy American Alan Cochran and launched in 1927, Creole has had a number of different owners and also been called Vira. When she was known as Magic Circle , she was transformed into a minesweeper during the Second World War, having previously competed in a number of regattas and attended previous America’s Cup events. In the 1970s she was used by the Danish government for sailing training in the rehabilitation of drug addicts before being bought by the Gucci family in 1983.
Endeavour, 1934
Arguably the world’s most famous J Class, Endeavour was the British challenger in the 1934 America’s Cup , but was beaten by the Harold Vanderbilt-owned Rainbow . Endeavour was commissioned by Sir T.O.M. Sopwith, who was keen to ensure that this yacht was the most advanced design possible. With his experience designing aircraft, Sopwith applied aviation technology to Endeavour ’s rig and winches and spared nothing to make her the finest vessel of her day.
She swept through the British racing fleet and into the hearts of yachtsmen around the world, winning many races in her first season. Though she did not win the America's Cup she came closer to doing so than any other challenger.
Since 1934, she has often led a perilous existence, even being sold to a scrap merchant in 1947 only to be saved by another buyer hours before her demolition was due to begin. In 1984, American yachtswoman Elizabeth Meyer bought Endeavour and she was transformed and rebuilt by Royal Huisman. Endeavour sailed again on June 22, 1989, for the first time in 52 years. J Class yacht Endeavour is now for sale .
Elena, 1910
In 1910, Morton Plant commissioned 55 metre Elena to be designed by American naval architect Nathanael Herreshoff, the so-called “Wizard of Bristol”, who made his name designing sailing yachts for America’s elite. Plant's brief was to the point: he wanted a schooner “that can win”.
Herreshoff gave Elena a slightly deeper keel than preceding designs of that time, lowering her centre of ballast, which improved her windward ability. Elena won most of her early races against the cream of the American schooner fleet and in 1928 came her crowning glory, victory in the Transatlantic Race. In 2009, she was rebuilt using the original plans for the first Elena.
Black Swan, 1899
Originally designed by Charles Nicholson and built in 1899 at Camper and Nicholson in Gosport, England, Black Swan started life as Brynhild with a yawl rig. She won a number of races at the beginning of the 20th century, including the King’s Cup. Over the years, she has undergone several changes and different rig configurations, and at one stage she was renamed Changrilla . She was rechristened Black Swan in the 1960s and, today, after an extensive restoration project at the Beconcini yard in La Spezia, Italy, she is now carrying a gaff-rig, designed by the Faggioni Yacht Design Studio and built by Harry Spencer.
Mariquita, 1911
Another beautiful classic yacht from Fife, Mariquita was launched in 1911. The 38.16 metre sailing yacht was designed and built for the industrialist Arthur Stothert. As part of the 19 metre Big Class racing that re-emerged in 1911, this gaff-rigged cutter is said to have inspired the J Class yachts that came after her.
She raced competitively against her brethren from 1911-1913, but by the 1950s, Mariquita was the last in the 19 metre class remaining. She was restored in 1991 and received a further refit in 2004. A star on the classic yacht racing scene, Mariquita is now for sale .

Cruinneag III – Classic Sailing Tradition
Launched on Tuesday, June 2nd 1936, Cruinneag was the third and largest in a series of yachts built for a wealthy textile and silk importer from Glasgow, Scotland. Designed as an auxiliary sailing ketch, Cruinneag III was spotted 16 years later by Lieutenant Commander George Christie RNR.
Cruinneag lay unscathed having been secretly hidden throughout the war years by her original owner, now presumed dead, Cruinneag emerged as an orphan of WWII and was soon adopted into the Christie family where she would remained for over 50 years, “always loved and never in the mud”.
Cruinneag III’s accommodations and fixtures remain as true as possible to the original designs and construction. Thanks greatly to her four loving owners over all these years. She shines amongst the other classic yachts as one of a handful that have “never been restored” and everyone knows that this is rather special.

The apprenticeship would see them involved in the construction and crafting of many of the famous “Fife” yachts of this era and eventually lead to a rivalry so great that they would split and open two opposing ship yards and go head to head for a very special price indeed ….. the dragon’s tail READ MORE

Classic Yacht Brokers
We are very fortunate in offering for sale some of the most beautiful boats in the world and we consider it both our pleasure and our duty to guide you carefully towards ownership of the yacht that is right for you.
Of course there are choices to make, but whether you’re charmed by the artistry of William Fife, the balance of Olin Stephens, or the sure-footedness of a Buchanan or Holman and more contemporary yachts, we would want the love affair - which may start here - to be enduring.

Born into an aristocratic air of racy intrigue, SUMURUN’s charms have wooed a select band of suitors since her launch at Fairlie. A legend in many lifetimes, SUMURUN is one of the most exquisite of William Fife’s large ‘fast cruisers’. For almost 110 years this 94ft ketch, formerly yawl, has been in commission and loved, most recently by the current owner who treated SUMURUN to a major 2017-2019 refit at Chantier du Guip. Return to classic racing late in 2019 was triumphant, with victory at Saint-Tropez. Rigged as a bermudan ketch since 1935, this handy configuration was retained but brought subtly up to date by Juan Kouyoumdjian. Under it, SUMURUN is perhaps consistently faster than ever, yet retains the ability to cross oceans comfortably; something she has quite a reputation for. “Form is temporary; class is permanent.”

Isle of Colonsay – yacht moorings
Colonsay Community Development Company is delighted to be welcoming yachts to 6 visitor moorings; a community-led enterprise. Queen’s Bay is a tranquil spot; offering no facilities, but the best shelter on the east, and spectacular views across to Jura. It’s an ideal base from which to explore the island and the white sands of Oransay also on a day trip. Use is first come, first served. Suitable for vessels up to 45ft in length or 10 tonnes, and available from early April until late October. On foot with sturdy footwear, a walk over rough ground brings you to Colonsay’s hotel & bar restaurant, or around the headland into Scalasaig where you’ll find our island shop and welcoming Pantry. Our island’s power supply comes along the submarine cable at Queen’s Bay - a sheltered anchorage. Dropping anchor is possible in the case of a mooring not being available, however we join SSEN in discouraging yachts from dropping anchor near to where this cable is plotted – please refer to marine charts. Thank you for supporting our small community through your use of the mooring. Whether you’re staying for a week to explore, or just an afternoon, we hope you enjoy Colonsay! For closer access to Scalasaig village amenities, please check Calmac’s harbour guidance for tendering ashore there: https://www.calmac.co.uk/Colonsayharbour

Misty was runner up in the 2015 Classic Boat Awards for best restoration under 40ft

Sailing holidays in Scotland
Mountains, rich seas and abundant wildlife.
Scotland offers you some of the finest sailing waters in the UK and how better to explore the rarely reached remote areas of the Western Isles or the charms of the Inner Hebrides than on a traditional sailing vessel? Our skippers will be your wildlife and cultural guides, teach you to sail, and inspire you to make the most of your active holiday on board and ashore. These are fantastic voyages if you love mountains and rugged coasts and want to see Scotland through the eyes of a sailor, get close to wildlife and reach some of the most inaccessible wilderness areas in Britain by boat.
Classic Sailing has a wonderful choice of skippered and fully catered sailing holidays that sail in the Scottish waters. Our traditionally rigged boats, schooners and tall ships roam from St Kilda to Shetland, Skye to Islay. Many voyages are themed and beginners will enjoy shorter breaks exploring the islands whilst more experienced sailors may enjoy the challenging expeditions to St Kilda or the Faroes.
Wind Conditions – Flat Water Blasts.
Scotland frequently offers warm sunny days and great sailing conditions. At times Scotland can be very windy and the gales can come in fast off the Atlantic at any time of year. The secret ace that sailing in Scotland has over sailing in other Atlantic facing shores like Cornwall or Ireland is the protecting influence of the island chains. The Inner and Outer Hebrides and the tall mountains give you options to find flat seas and sheltered anchorages from almost any wind direction. There are many miles where our tough sailing ships can escape the ocean swell and go for an awesome flat water blast. Not everywhere is protected, but at least there are safe havens where you can go to reef down and reduce sail so you can tackle the next exposed headland or firth.
Long Mid Summer Days
In June the sun sets very late in the evening so Scottish midsummer days are long. When a high pressure system sits over Scotland you can find yourself in a heatwave with waters so still the mountains and blue skies create a mirror image. The warm Gulf Stream means you can swim off the boat or beach-comb on white quartz sand beaches with no other sunbathers in sight. When a depression sweeps in – boy can it rain, but when the weather front clears the views are crystal clear.
Midge FREE Scotland
A Boat as your Bothy – Sailing and Walking
Sailing in the Western Isles of Scotland is one of the best ways of exploring these remote islands. You do not have to worry about accommodation, it’s close to nature but cosier than camping!
The choice of anchorages is endless on a sailing holiday in Scotland and your ‘restaurant’ and home comes with you. The energetic can climb to the highest point ashore and look down on your boat alone in perfect natural anchorages that south coast sailors can only dream of. If you prefer solitude to wander the edge of the loch looking for otters, or sketch the landscape then our skippers can generally suggest shorter walks or perfect beaches near to your landing spot. The best bit of the day if often swapping stories from each others forays ashore. Self sufficient aboard your floating home; you can relax snugly in the saloon and wait for supper with an appetite as large as the hills.
Which ship for my adventure?
If your heart is already set on Scotland as a cruising ground, then your next choice might be ‘Which vessel?’
Maybe and Blue Clipper love to explore the western Ilses of Scotland . Maybe is a wooden gaff ketch popular with young people but takes all ages, often sailing around the Firth of Clyde. Blue Cli[per has two person cabins and is offering high standards of catering for her voyages in Scotland.
Tecla and Oosterschelde are Dutch tall ships that have sailed the world, and often visit Scotland on the way to more far flung destinations.
Tecla has made Ullapool her favourite Scottish home port, as it has easy access North of Skye to the Shiant Isles, Outer Hebrides and St Kilda. She spends time in the Hebrides in the Spring, when there is still snow on the Highland summits on the way to Iceland and Greenland.
Oosterschelde is a large three masted topsail schooner with elegant below decks accommodation including a piano and spends some time in Scotland most years.

Wooden ships comments on this Scottish Trawler yacht
This unique vessel was built immediately pre-war as a yacht on the lines of a Scottish fishing boat.
The story is that her owner, a retired Naval Commander appears to have anticipated war and the need for boats. She is reputed to have carried secret agents from Scotland across to German –occupied Norway, there is a “secret” compartment where a man could have lain hidden and a fragment of a map of Norway is amongst the papers.
In 1947 the vessel was sold to the Bibby family for £3500 and remained with them usually based in Dartmouth until sold in 1963 to a Mr Buxton who berthed her in Glasson Dock, Lancashire where according to the next owner she suffered some neglect.
In 1986/7 she was sold to a Mr and Mrs Miles Irving and moved to S Wales where she was based at Rudders Boatyard, wintering at Neyland Marina and later at Rhoose Ferry, wintering in Pembroke Dock.
The Irving’s farm-house burnt down in 1994 and with it documents relating to the history of the vessel but in a letter Mrs Irving relates some of that history.
When Miles Irving fell ill she was sold in 2005 to a Cornishman. For a brief period she had live-aboard owners before coming into present ownership in 2007.
Inspected in November 2013 and found in tidy and ostensibly sea-worthy condition and very little changed from the original which is a great bonus. The lay-out with an owner’s 2-berth cabin aft, a 2-berth cabin forward for the crew and forward galley and heads and a very pleasant saloon cabin has remained unchanged with all the original joinery. One of the bunks even has the original Simpson Lawrence bunk spring frame.
Although evidently a fishing boat design from a fishing boat yard the construction indicates her yacht origins. The use of pitch-pine and noble metal fastenings and the simple but original joinery are all very special features of this vessel.
Not only is this a fascinating piece of history, she is a very usable vessel of a rare and practical size and ostensibly ready to go to sea.
Formerly Part 1 registered, now lapsed.
Built by Weatherheads of Cockenzie on the Firth of Forth near Edinburgh in 1938 to a design very typical of the fishing boats this yard was building.
The design features the usual Scottish fishing boat rather pointed canoe stern, a long straight keel and straight, raked stem. Built a yacht she might be a fraction leaner in the beam than her working boat sisters.
Planked in larch, carvel laid, caulked and payed in the traditional way.
A contemporary article notes the planking to be larch and pitch-pine and the fastenings as yellow metal and plugged which is very yachty.
Oak frames in pairs of sawn futtocks 2 x 3” moulded, 3” sided at 18” centres.
Oak back-bone.
Pair of fixed port holes each side in the saloon, port hole to galley and head and each-ride to the aft cabin.
Internal iron ballast . The ballast seen was in the form of a number of iron pigs of approx 100cwt each + a large number of smaller iron items approx cricket ball size but obviously cast for a particular use, possibly associated with a furnace. Total ballast estimated at 2 ½ tons.
This ballast was reported to have been removed, cleaned and painted by the previous owner and certainly appeared very clean.
Deck. The deck is straight laid pitch-pine (according to contemporary article), caulked and payed and fastened to oak beams with brass screws.(see contemporary article)
Side deck tie-rods maintain deck stability.
Coach-roof deck beams over the saloon cabin are varnished and show a very sweet moulding not usually found in fishing boats.
It is suspected that the deck under the deck paint is the same timber as the cabin joinery which appears to be pitch-pine or a similar yellow pine with a fine grain and colour.
A low bulwark all round the deck is carried on oak stanchion posts which appear to be one of the pairs of frame futtocks extended through the cover-boards in the Scottish manner.
Again in the Scottish manner the cover-boards are created by individual blocks of wood between the stanchion posts resting on wooden cleats spiked to the sides of the frames with the outermost deck plank set hard up against the inner face of the stanchion posts thus making stanchion post replacement in case of damage much simpler and cheaper.
Cavil bars on the bulwarks to take mooring lines.
Twin chain rollers on the stemhead.
Modern 12v windlass on the fore deck.
The wheel-house has a door on the port side set high over the coaming step. This little wheel-house, 8’ long, 6’ wide and recessed 2’below deck level sits well in the boat with 6’ head-room under the beams yet still affording excellent visibility.
An unusual and original Kelvin spoked wheel works on wire cables to a huge circular quadrant on the rudder stock in the lazarette
Helmsman’s seat.
Drop down flap seat over the aft cabin companionway.
Chart desk in after stbd corner
A forward coach-roof over the saloon cabin and an after coach-roof over the aft cabin both have pitch-pine coamings and T&G pine decking sheathed more recently in grp and painted.
Traditional varnished sky-light and two mush-room vents on the fwd coach-roof.
A traditional varnished teak entrance hatch on the fore deck gives independent access for the paid hand in the fore peak cabin.
Rig. 2 masts.
A taller after mast stepped in a galvanised tabernacle on the after coach-roof fitted with bronze sail track and carries a boom with topping lift sheeted to the after peak. A sail is carried for this mast.
Fore mast stepped in a tabernacle on the fore deck just fwd of the coach-roof.
Stowage facility for twin gas bottles against this mast.
Galvanised rigging wire to heavy external chain plates with galvanised rigging screws.
This rig bears a distinct resemblance to the rig shown in original photos published in the magazine article except that the mizzen mast was originally keel stepped and the partners are still seen in the aft coach-roof deckhead. The fwd mast appears to have been originally stepped on deck as at present and designed to be lowered aft as were the rigs of the early Scottish East Coast sailing fishing boats.
The masts are oiled, tapered at the head with the top 4’ + trucks painted white and may well be the originals.
Dedicated engine room under the wheel-house floor. Entrance by low-level doorway stbd side in the saloon after bulkhead. 4’ head-room in the engine room. Bench seat along the stbd side with agreeable floor space.
Matching doorway on the port side gives access to the wing engine without climbing over the main engine.
The vessel was originally fitted with a Kelvin Ricardo 30hp petrol paraffin main engine and a 30hp Kelvin Ricardo wing engine. The petrol tank was placed on the wheel-house roof.
Russell Newbery DM4 4-cyl diesel engine solidly mounted on the centre-line on substantial engine beds with centre-line shaft and conventional stuffing box bearing to a 3-blade prop.
Fresh water cooled with heat exchanger. Interesting pipe-work and valves appears to permit the cooling water to be drawn from either of 2 sea-cocks or the bilge.
12v engine start.
A spare engine is included with the boat including blocks, fuel pump, crankshaft, one spare head, valves and valve seats etc
Self Changing Gears of Coventry ahead and astern gear-box with 2-lever controls at the helm.
6knts at 850rpm cruising revs. 1200rpm max.
Wing engine. Perkins 3-cyl diesel (as used in MF tractors) with Borg Warner hydraulic gear-box mounted to port with conventional shaft drive.
Fresh water cooled with heat exchanger.
The wing engine gives 4knts
A good quantity of spares for both engines are carried on board. In addition an active Russell Newbery Owners Assoc provides a selection of spares.
Fuel. 75 galls diesel carried in twin cylindrical tanks, one each side of the engine room.
Modern filters and water traps.
Water. Home made in previous ownership grp tanks under each of the fwd cabin berths containing estimated 15 galls each with 12v pressure pump to the galley sink and heads basin.
1 large 12v battery located on the ER floor by the door.
Dedicated engine start battery on the wing engine.
Original electrical meters and switch-board in the engine room.
Accommodation.
4 berths + 2 settee berths in the saloon cabin.
The vessel is divided into 5 compartments – an aft cabin, the wheel-house with engine room below, the saloon cabin, the heads and galley area and a fore cabin.
Aft cabin with generous port and stbd berths. Port hole in the hull each side above each berth.
The port berth is still fitted with the original sprung frame under the mattress.
Varnished pitch-pine joinery with drawers and lockers.
Port side steps up to the wheel-house.
Centreline steps from the wheel-house down forward to the saloon cabin. Port and stbd Chesterfield style settees, stowage under the behind.
Sideboards at the fwd ends with glass door lockers above
Mahogany drop-leaf table.
Painted sole boards. Painted T&G bulkheads. Painted coamings and deck-heads with varnished oak coach-roof beams
Centre-line fwd passageway runs up to the fore cabin.
Galley to stbd with recent smart 2-burner grill and oven gas cooker. Gas bottle on deck alongside the fore mast. Stainless steel sink and drainer. Pressurised water supply, 12v pump with switch by the sink. Sink drains overboard.
Heads compartment to port with original SL sea toilet and porcelain hand-basin.
Port holes each side to galley and heads.
V-berths in the fore cabin with the feet almost up against the stem post.
Home-made grp fresh water tanks under the berths
Fore hatch over.
Original joinery with drawers and lockers under the berths
An old 12v fridge is temporarily sited on the port berth – reported in working order.
