Written by Rachael Steele Sailing yacht SAUDADE has been crowned the winner of this 10th edition of the event after taking first place in the final race of the Superyacht class at the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta 2017, while MAGIC CARPET³ beat competitors OPEN SEASON for their first win in the Wally class in two years. Abert Buell won his first race on Sardinia back in 1988 and has gained a taste for the race along with his crew, some of which have been racing at his side for over 20 years. After winning the Superyacht class in 2015 and 2016, this is sailing yacht SAUDADE’s third consecutive win. “We made the triple. That was the dream.” Buell smiled as he lifted the regatta’s top award, the Silver Jubilee Cup. “The dream is a reality. There is not too much difference to how we won the last two years. This week was special because the winds were light and changed a lot.  Watch: 90m Lürssen superyacht Ice collides into 31m Numarine yacht in TurkeyThe 90.1-metre Lürssen superyacht Ice has collided with the 31.1-metre Numarine yacht A.Mey in Yalıkavak, Turkey. Dramatic footage taken of the incident shows Ice 's bow strike A.Mey with enough force to turn the yacht. The extent of damage is unknown but A.Mey 's aft section appears to be badly damaged. The yacht was anchored when the collision took place, with 12 people on board at the time. No injuries have been reported. Saudade’s name, Portuguese for a "profound sense of nostalgia or longing," was given to her on launching. She spent her early days in England and then in Lisbon where her first owner's mistress resided. In many ways she represents one of the last of her kind. Within a few years the classic wooden ocean racing yawl, pioneered by Olin Stevens in 1929, would give way to more modern hull shapes made of fiberglass. She spent the 70s and 80s in the Mediterranean, finally making her way across the Atlantic to the Caribbean and New England. When I found Saudade in 2017 she was on her way to dereliction in one of Key West’s grungier boat yards. She has been lovingly restored, and is now ready for chartering.
