Review of Vindö 32
Basic specs..
The hull is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season. And outside the sailing season, just bottom cleaning and perhaps anti-fouling painting once a year - a few hours of work, that's all.
The boat is equipped with 4-5 berths, a galley, 90.0 liter fresh water capacity and toilet facility.
The boat equipped with a masthead rig. The advantage of a masthead rig is its simplicity and the fact that a given sail area - compared with a fractional rig - can be carried lower and thus with less heeling moment.
The Vindö 32 has been built with different keel alternatives.
One option is a long keel. A full keel provide a better directional stability than a similar boat with a fin keel; on the other hand, better directional stability means also that the boat is more difficult to handle in a harbour with less space.
The keel is made of lead. Compared with iron, lead has the advantage of being 44% heavier, which allows a smaller keel and hence less water resistance and higher speed.
The boat can enter even shallow marinas as the draft is just about 1.30 - 1.40 meter (4.27 - 4.57 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.
Another option is a long keel.

General Information
Vindö 32 from 1976 Beautiful Swedish build Classic Sailboat in Glass Fiber hull (GRP) and fantastic mix of Teak and Mahogany interior, roof, seatings etc. Build 1976 on the famous Vindö yacht varf (Nötesund Varf) on the west coast of Sweden and designed by Carl Andersson. This well maintained long keeled classic sailor is the perfect sailor for a couple or several couple to share, and sail the coast of Algarve, Spain and even in the Mediterainian. Perfect for daysails or overnights and with the long keel and draft of only 1,3 meter she is perfect to anchor in Alvor, Portimão or amazing Olhão by Faro… or why not a trip up the Rio Guardiana to Alcotim. She is easy to sail single handed or by two people and sails nicely in even light winds. She is in good condition. The teak deck and the mahogany superstructure are very well maintained, several improvements has been made by the current owners who bought her in Holland and brought her here to Portugal some years ago. Roof in the Cabin was re-done in 2013 and in superior condition. Next to that, the engine was replaced with the 18hp Volvo Penta 2002 and transmission MS2B in 2002 and have only estimated around 300-500 hours. The rigging of the boat was checked yearly as she was out of water every winther. Sails from Zwaan sails in Holland are in very good condition and from 2016, as well as Sprayhood and cover. Seacocks, toilet, Raymarine instrument, batteries (50ah) and many other improvements from 2019. No osmosis or sign of such. Hull repainted by Waarschip in Holland 2019. Anti-fouling painted by Sopromar 2022. She comes with all fenders, mooring lines, 2 anchors, kitchenware etc. and can be seen on the B pontoon in Lagos Marina.

Vindo (Nötesund Varv AB)
The founder of the yard Carl Andersson, was born in a family where his ancestors for at least two generations had been boat builders, building fishing boats. He started his first own company in 1926 building pilot vessels mostly, beside a few crafts for leisure. During the thirties he was known to be a skilled builder of boats like Dragons, A22 and 5.5m for regattas and double enders, “koster” in Swedish. Most of the boats were sailing yachts but there were also some remarkable motor cruisers. Later, in the fifties they built folk boats among all the others. In the early sixties the son Karl-Erik Andersson who was an engineer in ship building, took over the management of the yard since Carl was getting older and not so strong any more. Carl remained by the drawing table though. During this time there came a man from Germany called Christhoph Rassy seeking employment in the yard where he worked some years before starting his own. The first of the boats in the Vindö range was a 26 footer called Vindö 28 built in wood in 1961 which could be considered as a mile stone in the history of the yard and Karl-Erik soon had to expand the business. Beside the 28 the building of various craft continued. In 1963 Carl constructed the Vindö 30 with a length of 9 m and shortly after the Vindö 18, 6 m long. In 1964 came the Vindö 22 a smaller version of the Vindö 30. In 1965 the skilled crafts men of the yard made the plug to the famous Vega and they also made the plug for the International Folk Boat. Through this work they came in contact with the GRP and shortly after the first Vindö in GRP was made, the Vindö 18 and the year after the Vindö 30 also converted into GRP. In the late sixties came the Vindö 50 and the 22 also transformed into GRP. In 1971 the sailing plug of the Vindö 40 was the last yacht made of wood built in the yard. In 1973 came the Vindö 32. Then to have something big to offer they imported a 46-foot hull from England where it was known as Bowman 46 or the Corsair. The yard completed the yachts but it never became any success so only a few were completed under the name Vindö 75. Vindö 90 came in 1975 and was not made in more then a few numbers as well. Carl then constructed the Vindö 65 in 1977, 38.5 foot, which as the 50 was offered in various models. At the peak there were about 50 employees in the yard during early seventies. Carl died in 1979 a year before the first bankruptcy in 1980. By this time the new owner group tried to modernize the range and had the designer John Lindblom, later he was with Storebro, to design the Vindö 45 introduced in 1981. After a new bankruptcy with a new owner taking over there was a new design presented with a superstructure in GRP. Since the Vindö was synonymous with mahogany superstructure it never got into production and the yard stopped building boats and is nowadays only making repairs and maintenance. During a some years other “factories” sub contracted the yard to make the interior of their boats hoping to benefit of the Vindö reputation but probably due to economical reasons never became a success. I mean that the yard probably weren’t allowed to use the material nor the refined ways of building there were used to.

When it comes to yachts the Scandinavians have the edge in design and build quality. The Vindo 32 is exactly that. It looks good, sails well and is built to an exceptionally high standard which couldn't be repeated today due to the high cost of production. The accommodation has a forward cabin with 2 single berths which can be converted to a large double with the infill cushion. The heads are to starboard with a hanging locker opposite. The main saloon there is a settee berth to port and starboard. The galley is to starboard with a chart table opposite. The interior has been maintained to a high standard and has the ambiance which is not repeated in modern yachts. This example has been lovingly looked after by an experienced owner and has had many upgrades probably making her one of the best examples of her class. She easy to handle and a joy to sail. This is a yacht that can only be appreciated by the discerning yachtsman as it combines all the luxury of the classically built wooden boat along with the easy to maintain GRP hull. In Spring 2018 she was lifted out, antifouled, professionally polished and had new anodes fitted.

Broker Remarks
The Vindo 32 is a traditional long keel cruising sloop built in Sweden in sufficient numbers to get the details right - being the smallest model in the fleet, she benefits from slightly oversized gear and is an extremely able and safe cruiser only limited by fuel and water capacity. The interior is entirely original. This boat has sadly been neglected due to other commitments and is offered as a project to some one wishing to bring a 'grand old lady' back to her glory days. Accommodation
Traditional forepeak with good chain locker and infill. Heads with sliding basin and storage locker and pumper water. Opposite this a small hanging locker with shelves is situated. The main saloon has two large berths with a pilot berth formed by the raised seat back. The fixed centre table has an extending leaf and seats 5-6 comfortably in harbour. Nav station takes a folded admiralty chart with storage under plus large storage locker. Instrument mounting area accomodates items listed. Galley with sink, cool box and 2 burner cooker with grill under a sliding worktop.
Mechanical and Rigging
GRP Hull, cockpit and deck. with some internal mouldings. Teak laid deck over. Solid Mahogany coach roof with canvas covered top. Replacement Engine 1998/9 Beta 722 18HP 3 Cylinder diesel complete with gearbox, new mountings, shaft and 3 bladed propellor. 350 Hours. 50 Amp alternator is fitted with diodes to charge the battery bank of 1 dedicated 85 amp starting battery plus 2 x 85 amphr house batteries which have a change over switch to allow emergency engine starting. Fuel: 50L stored in high quality removable stainless tank on starboard side. Water: 100L in stainless steel tank above keel. Bermudan sloop rigged with Selden spars. All running and standing rigging renewed in 1997/8. New Nemo self furling gear and genoa 1997/8. Mainsail renewed in 1996. Slab reefing. Storm Jib and Trisail. Plus ghoster.
2 Batteries. 16 Relay Electrical distribution panel. Cetrek integrated wind instruments (Wind speed & direction, Close Hauled and depth) Repeater for all data over the chart table. C-Map cartridge type chart navigator provides excellent and accurate position fixing in conjunction with a seperate SATNAV. Speed made good etc giving back up to the main navigator. NAVICO RT 65005VHF 1996 and NAVTEX receiver. Navigation lights are fitted fore and aft plus a working and mast light. The cabins have the usual 12v lighting with flourescent over the galley and chart table which also has a 'stalk' light and a mains 240v power and main cabin light is also fitted plus a mains transformer for battery top up. 35 Ib CQR anchor with 60m of 4/16 chain plus a second 15Ib kedge anchor with warp plus two folding anchors. Viking liferaft in fibreglass container designed to fit around the hatch garage. New Antal 16 Self tailing genoa winches and 2 Lewmar Halyard winches. Partially fitted 700W electric anchor winch with manual facility and remote deck controls with all wiring etc, ready to install. Stainless steel pulpit with lifelines plus pushpit with folding swimming and boarding ladder. 3 large capacity whale bilge pumps are fitted. 1 in main cockpit, 1 in the galley and the 3rd in the forepeak originally used in conjunction with a flexible holding tank which could be replaced and with a seperate seacock.

The Vindo 32 is a 29.36ft masthead sloop designed by Carl Andersson and built in fiberglass by Vindo (Nötesund Varv AB) since 1976. The Vindo 32 is a heavy sailboat which is slightly under powered. It is very stable / stiff and has an excellent righting capability if capsized. It is best suited as a coastal cruiser.
The Vindö 32 has been built with different keel alternatives. Full keel. One option is a long keel.
