Isle of Colonsay – yacht moorings

Colonsay Community Development Company is delighted to be welcoming yachts to 6 visitor moorings; a community-led enterprise. Queen’s Bay is a tranquil spot; offering no facilities, but the best shelter on the east, and spectacular views across to Jura. It’s an ideal base from which to explore the island and the white sands of Oransay also on a day trip. Use is first come, first served. Suitable for vessels up to 45ft in length or 10 tonnes, and available from early April until late October. On foot with sturdy footwear, a walk over rough ground brings you to Colonsay’s hotel & bar restaurant, or around the headland into Scalasaig where you’ll find our island shop and welcoming Pantry. Our island’s power supply comes along the submarine cable at Queen’s Bay - a sheltered anchorage. Dropping anchor is possible in the case of a mooring not being available, however we join SSEN in discouraging yachts from dropping anchor near to where this cable is plotted – please refer to marine charts. Thank you for supporting our small community through your use of the mooring. Whether you’re staying for a week to explore, or just an afternoon, we hope you enjoy Colonsay! Sailing is a unique and exciting choice for client entertainment, team building or just a fun day out of the office. There is nothing quite like being out on the water to bring everybody together. You can choose to be “hands on” or just relax and enjoy the experience. For an amazing full day experience, combine sailing with dinner or lunch at a local restaurant.

Both yachts are well placed for film, tv or corporate video.

Fun Day Out

At Edinburgh Boat Charters we believe that a sailing trip is a great reward for your team as it is the perfect “get away from it all” experience.

A half or full day on the water is a fantastic option for entertaining clients, thanking your team or to offer as an employee incentive. Join us for a sail around the bridges & inner islands of the Forth and enjoy the views, wildlife and  history. Arrange to land / anchor at one of the islands to explore with a picnic lunch or visit a sea front restaurant / bistro.

If you fancy something even more adventurous, enjoy a full day sail down the river past all of the inner islands and the Bass Rock before arriving in Anstruther for fish & chips and road transport back.

For those who would prefer a more adrenaline-filled activity, we have the perfect experience for you in the form of our high-speed RIBs. Combine these with our catamaran for a unique trip exploring the River Forth, with the option to swap between boats and experience both forms of transport. These can also be taken out separately, with the option to land on Inchcolm Island to explore the 12th Century Abbey located there.

Team Building

With our luxury catamaran we can offer a unique and bespoke team building day for your employees. We firmly believe that team building events are integral to helping employees work well together and learn new skills as part of a team.

We can teach your team the basics of sailing a 38 foot yacht and then put them to the test on a timed route, which is a really fun and exciting way to spend the day.

The Firth of Forth and its gorgeous coastlines are perfect for a scavenger hunt. Have the team work together to spot as many landmarks and sights as they can in a certain time: from Edinburgh Castle in the distance, to seals swimming by the boat, this hunt takes in all manner of sights and is great fun for everyone on board. We also have the option to land on Inchcolm Island for a visit and can lay on a quick treasure hunt here for the team to take part in.

There’s nothing like a little pressure to encourage everyone to work together, and this is why our Man Over Board drills are perfect for a team building event. We will throw our dummy overboard and time how long it takes for the team to retrieve it. For groups taking out multiple vessels, we can have the teams compete against each other to see who can save their fallen colleague (dummy) first.

For the smaller, more adventurous, team you may want to consider one of our extended trips to Eyemouth or Arbroath. This is a fantastic shared team building experience that they will never forget. A return trip is not necessary as this can be combined with accommodation and road or rail transport home.

Client Entertainment

At Edinburgh Boat Charters we believe that your corporate clients deserve the best in entertainment. For small groups of up to 10 people we can provide a full day sailing on board our luxury yachts from both our base at Dunstaffnage Marina and Port Edgar Marina. We combine the luxury of our sailing yachts with a fantastic local restaurant to offer your guests an amazing full day experience.

On the West Coast, our sail usually takes us from Dunstaffnage to Lochaline, where we berth and your guests can disembark and walk to The Whitehouse Restaurant for lunch. The alternative is to head to Port Appin where the wonderful Pierhouse Hotel is. Once lunch is finished your clients will enjoy the sail back to Dunstaffnage Marina. On the way back through the Sound of Mull and the Firth of Lorne, your guests can enjoy some drinks and refreshments.

Our East Coast sail will take in the famous bridges and islands of the Forth, and your guests will enjoy magnificent views of the Edinburgh skyline with Arthur’s Seat and Edinburgh Castle. Around midday we will pick up a mooring buoy at the East side of Inchkeith Island in order to have a lunch break. We can provide your clients with a picnic style buffet lunch. After lunch we will sail back up river to Port Edgar Marina, and your guests can make their way up to Scotts Restaurant where they will enjoy delicious food and drinks with a fantastic view out over the River Forth and the bridges. There is no better way to end the day!
