The Yacht Club de Monaco’s Oktoberfest

More than a tradition… the Yacht Club de Monaco’s Oktoberfest is now an institution. Under the impetus of Anne-Marie Winkler and Laila Schlereth, surrounded by numerous members of the ever-active German community, the Y.C.M. is decked out in white and blue to transform itself into a grand Bavarian brasserie.

Every year, this event brings together some 500 Club members, all lovers of “good foam”, dressed in a “Dirndl”, an apron dress for the women and a “Lederhose” for the men… This year it’s on Friday, October 20, 2023: Ein Prosit.

Oktoberfest celebrations begin this weekend in Monaco

The official event in Munich might have already come to a close, but Monaco’s Oktoberfest is only just getting started. Here’s everything you need to know.  

Oktoberfest, the traditional two-week-long festival that takes place in Munich, Germany started off in 1810 as a way of marking the marriage between the Crown Prince of Bavaria, who later became King Ludwig I, and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen.  

Whilst the royal and his bride may not be so well-remembered today, the idea behind their wedding bash certainly lives on, with countries all over the world emulating the event, including here in the Principality.   

MARCHE DE LA CONDAMINE  

The Mairie de Monaco will be kicking things off with two events at the Marché de la Condamine on 5 th and 6 th October, which will include musical entertainment by the Tyrolfest Orchestra and a selection of traditional Bavarian dishes.

YACHT CLUB DE MONACO  

Later this month, the Yacht Club de Monaco will hold its now-legendary Oktoberfest celebration on 20 th October. Organised by Anne-Marie Winkler and Laila Schlereth, with the support of many members of the local German community, the club will be decked out in the blue and white of Bavaria to create the air of a classic Bavarian brasserie.   

Some 500 people regularly attend and almost all get into the spirit by wearing the traditional costumes of lederhosen for men and the dirndl for women. For more information on the event, please click here .

The Principality in colours of Bavaria for Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest, the Bavarian beer festival, is coming to the Principality.

For this Bavarian-themed weekend, the Tyrolfest orchestra will seek to create a typical atmosphere and shopkeepers will offer traditional dishes, not forgetting the legendary drink that is the source of the festivities.

To take part in the beer festival at the Marché de la Condamine, you must reserve your place directly with the merchants in the market hall.

Our Vice-President Angela Kleiber invites us this year to participate in the Oktoberfest of the Yacht Club Monaco. As the Café de Paris is currently under renovation, there is only one Oktoberfest celebration in Monaco, and this one takes place at the Yacht Club. The places for the Clubs are therefore unfortunately very limited.

If you would like to taste delicious Bavarian specialities, drink beer and sing together „Ein Prosit auf die Gemütlichkeit" in Dirndl or Janker, please contact our Office before 7. October

Yacht Club Monaco

Founded in 1953 by Prince Rainier and presided over by HSH Prince Sovereign Albert II since 1984, the Yacht Club de Monaco brings together more than 2.500 members from 80 nationalities. Many of the world’s most prestigious private yachts fly the Yacht Club de Monaco’s burgee, testimony to its unique position on the international yachting scene.

Inauguration of the new YCM building

At 43°44’15’’ N and 7°25’40’’ E, this hi-tech building which looks like a liner docked on Quai Louis II is home to two of the Principality’s historic clubs: the Société Nautique (rowing club) and the Yacht Club, a meeting point for owners and focus of international yachting activities. Alongside Lord Foster and Monegasque architect Alexandre Giraldi, Jacques Grange and Nelson Wilmotte have put their talents to the service of the new building’s interior and exterior layout and design.

To be a member of the Yacht Club de Monaco is above all a commitment. Grâce à l'initiative de notre membre Anne-Marie van Ooyen-Winkler, le Yacht Club de Monaco se transformera en «Gaudi-Stadl» le 21 octobre à partir de 19h30. Nous remercions nos membres Gilbert Grosjean et Philippe Ragaz d'avoir pu nous organiser 24 places au total pour cette manifestation unique et exclusive.

Le prix pour les membres est de 190 euros (pourboire inclus) et de 250 euros pour les non-membres (pourboire inclus) .

Making the market – The Monaco Yacht Show

An analysis of the superyacht market’s performance over the 33-year period since the show’s inception….

After 33 years, and becoming the most important yacht show in the market, it’s appropriate to look at the market’s performance over the same time period to assess how the Monaco Yacht Show has potentially driven and grown our industry through being the most valuable shop window of our sector.

Having attended every single edition of the Monaco Yacht Show, it’s been a hugely interesting evolution to watch, with a relative handful of yachts in the early days to today’s vast array of superyachts in Port Hercule and at anchor, accompanied by hundreds of exhibitors and displays of goods and services. Like the sheer size and scale of the yachts we’re building today, I’m sure no one expected this Show to grow to the scale and complexity it delivers, especially Luc Pettavino, inaugural founder of the event.

Maybe its success is due to the Principality itself and its self-proclaimed status of the Capital of Advanced Yachting, supported by institutions like the Yacht Club de Monaco and global leaders like HSH Prince Albert. All of these factors have contributed to the Show’s continued success, and when you follow the growth curves and analysis of how the market has shifted and evolved, the two are a mirror image.

Unfortunately, we don’t have the historical lists of yachts attending every show, as that would reinforce the analysis, but it’s very clear to see that since the embryonic days of the small quayside event, opposite the old YCM, the fleet has been inspired and driven and ballooned thanks to the ability for our yards, designers and brokers to create a platform to showcase what our industry is all about.

The annual LOA illustration is a clear visual chart that shows the LOA trends and the perfect presentation of how the markets enjoyed cycles and roller coasters during the GFC and a stabilisation amongst a core group of shipyards, followed by a recent upturn during Covid and the post-Covid feeding frenzy. The widening of the categories from 2005 onwards shows the increased appetite for yachts over 40 metres, but more interestingly after the GFC in 2012 we saw the arrival of a consistent flow of large tonnage above 90 metres, perhaps best described as the Oligarch years.

The sailing yacht vs motoryacht chart is a really sad reflection on the demise of the sailing market and the desire for floating real estate with large volumes or villa-style accommodation, delivered by the myriad of shipyards building cookie-cutter platforms. The chart does show a glimpse of light at the end of the period and it would be good to see a resurgence of these stunning projects, with sailing and sustainability as a core strategic opportunity.

The language of GT is a relatively recent trend and while yards and designers try to play with the volume of the smaller sized yachts below 500gt, they still make up the lion’s share of the market for obvious reasons. However, with the delivery in the past decade of some gargantuan projects with gross tonnage measured in several thousands, even as high as 15,000-plus gt, it is easy to spot the peaks of activity in the Northern Europe shipyards.

However, it is anticipated that the ratio of length to GT will stabilise in the future, where profile, balance, efficiency, regulations and even support yachts will keep the GT within reasonable boundaries, touching <3,000gt as a rule. However, the LOA data shows a relatively consistent trend, with vast numbers of semi-custom and production superyachts leaving shipyards in Italy, Turkey, the UAE and Asia consistently every year, which keeps the average on an even keel.

Essentially these three clear graphics are trends that can be aligned with the success of the Monaco Yacht Show and the success and stress of shipyards and their deliveries. Some years there were bumper years of new builds on display, some years there were a cross-section of yachts under distress sale. But it is clear that the Monaco Yacht Show is the barometer of our marketplace and the one place you can take the industry’s temperature and do a quick health check. The Bay Area’s ever-growing microbrew movement sure has given Oktoberfest season a kick in the lederhosen.

In Germany, the world’s largest celebration will pack Munich’s beer halls from late September through Oct. 7 this year. But here, the celebrations go on for weeks and weeks, running right up until Halloween.

OKTOBERFESTS

Oktoberfest Redwood City:  Wednesday, Sept. 19, through Sunday, Sept. 23. This Peninsula event gets bigger and bigger every year. Now it’s five days of yodeling, dancing, eating and beer stein-holding contests in the huge Oktoberfest tent in Courthouse Square. Entertainment by Alpiners USA and Golden Gate Bavarian Club. Happy hour sessions are scheduled for Sept. 19-20 (no contests, dancing those events), followed by five other seatings Sept. 21-23. Admission, $12-$24, includes stein and beverage; there are deals for designated drivers, online sales;  www.redwoodcity.org/oktoberfest.

Schroeder’s Block Party and Oktoberfest:  Friday, Sept. 21. This historic San Francisco venue –it’s believed to be the oldest German restaurant on the West Coast — will celebrate its 125th anniversary with a party that will shut down Front Street from 3 to 8 p.m.; after that the festivities move inside. Live music plus costume, sausage eating contests and more. Admission is free but limited to those age 21 and older. After this kickoff event, Schroeder’s will host Oktoberfest celebrations inside every Saturday from Sept. 22 to Oct. 27, with music from Polkalicious, Joe Smiell and Schwabenland. 240 Front St.;  www.schroederssf.com.

Oktoberfest by the Bay:  Friday, Sept. 21, through Sunday, Sept. 23. Three days’ worth of German food, beer, singing and dancing on Pier 48 in San Francisco at one of the West’s biggest Oktoberfests. Headlining is the 21-piece Chico Bavarian Band, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary this season. Friday night and Saturday night are limited to adults age 21 and up; children are allowed on Saturday afternoon or all day Sunday, which is Family Day. Admission: $25 general, $85 VIP (includes German buffet, commemorative mug), $5 kids ages 13-18, free for ages 12 and under. Hours, tickets:  www.oktoberfestbythebay.com.

Oktoberfest at the Triton Museum:  Saturday, Sept. 22. This inaugural event featuring beer, food, music and games is a fundraiser for the Triton Museum of Art. Hours, 1-4 p.m. Admission: Free; beer and food extra. 1505 Warburton Ave., Santa Clara.  www.tritonmuseum.org 

Geektoberfest:  Thursday, Sept. 27. The Tech Museum of Innovation will team up again with BioCurious, a nonprofit community science lab, to explore the science behind beer and brewing. What creates that foamy head? Participating breweries include Ale Industries, Buffalo Bill’s, Clandestine, Discretion, Gordon Biersch, Lagunitas, Laughing Monk, Mad River, North Coast, Santa Clara Valley, Sierra Nevada, Strike and Umunhum. 7 to 10:30 p.m. at 201 S. Market St., ages 21-plus only. Tickets, $20-$25; food sold separately.  www.thetech.org

Milpitas Oktoberfest:  Saturday, Sept. 29. Beer, food, music and games at city-sponsored event. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Milpitas Civic Center, 457 E. Calaveras Blvd.  www.ci.milpitas.ca.gov.

Hayward Oktoberfest:  Saturday, Sept. 29. Hayward Business Association event, with more than 50 beer vendors, plus music and food, will take over B Street and Main Street downtown from 1 to 6 p.m. Admission, $12 for beer glass with two pours; $20 for five pours.  www.eventbrite.com.   

Fremont Oktoberfest:  Saturday, Sept. 29. Fremont Rotary and DasBrew, a microbrewery that specializes in German-style brews, will host an Oktoberfest with music, dancing, food and beer. $40 admission includes beer stein. 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the tap room, 44356 S. Grimmer Blvd., Fremont.  www.dasbrewinc.com. 

Oaktoberfest:  Saturday, Sept. 29, and Sunday, Sept. 30. Home Brewers’ Alley will join the dozens of breweries pouring in the Bill Brand Biergarten at this annual fall fest in Oakland’s Dimond district. Root biergarten, games for kids, German fare. Live music on four stages. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at MacArthur Boulevard and Fruitvale Avenue. Free admission to street fair; food, beer extra. $20 buys a stein and four beers, other ticket packages include unlimited tastings and a private barbecue. A brewer’s brunch is planned for Sunday.  www.oaktoberfest.org.

Mountain View Oktoberfest:  Saturday, Oct. 6, and Sunday, Oct. 7. For two days, the 7,000-square-foot festival tent at Bryant and Dana streets, sponsored by Steins Beer Garden and the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce, will feature local and German brews, food from Teske’s Germania and others, plus music by Alpiners USA, SF German Band, Big Lou’s Accordion Princess, plus contests. Children’s area with bounce houses. Free admission; beer, food extra. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  www.mvoktoberfest.com.

Clayton Oktoberfest:  Saturday, Oct. 6, and Sunday, Oct. 7: This historic Contra Costa County town hosts a two-day downtown festival that combines a traditional Oktoberfest with a street festival. Biergarten, Bavarian dancers, live music by The Internationals, German food, plus carnival, street performers, and arts and crafts. A noon parade on Saturday will culminate in the tapping of the keg in the biergarten. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Free admission, parking, shuttle.  www.claytonoktoberfest.com.

Sausage and Suds Music Festival:  Sunday, Oct. 7. OK, so it isn’t technically an Oktoberfest, but this annual San Leandro event features more than enough sausages and Bay Area craft brews to count. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along Parrott Avenue, which is five blocks from BART. Live bands. Free admission.  http://sanleandrodowntownassociation.org/.

Peninsula Oktoberfest:  Saturday, Oct. 13. Hiller Aviation Museum again hosts the nighttime Peninsula Oktoberfest. Live music (Bayern Maiden, Rockin’ Oktoberfest Band, San Mateo Elks Oktoberfest Band), German beers plus local microbrews and German food to purchase. 6 to 11 p.m. outside the museum at 601 Skyway Road, San Carlos. Admission, $20 (glass, one beer); $11 (kids, seniors); kids 4 and under get in free. www.hiller.org.

San Ramon Oktoberfest:  Saturday, Oct. 20. Event sponsored by the San Ramon Historic Foundation will feature the Olympia Fields Brass Band, Golden Gate Bavarian Dancers — and dachshund races. Beer and German-themed lunch. Admission, $25 adults, $10-$15 with root beer for kids and teens. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Forest Home  Farms Historic Park, San Ramon.  www.srhf.org.

Walnut Creek Oktoberfest:  Saturday, Oct. 20. Biergarten, food booths, harvest-themed arts and crafts, plus Kinder Platz with pumpkin patch, rides and activities for children. Live music. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at a new location this year, Civic Park. Free admission.  www.walnutcreekdowntown.com

Campbell Oktoberfest:  Saturday, Oct. 20, and Sunday, Oct. 21. This 24th annual event combines the German food, beer and music of an Oktoberfest with the arts and crafts of a traditional street festival (more than 100 vendors), running for several blocks along Campbell Avenue downtown. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 21. Admission, parking free.  www.downtowncampbell.com

Jack Rose Libation House Oktoberfest:  Saturday, Oct. 20. Hofbrau beer on tap, German food for sale in the outdoor beer garden, music by the Internationals. 4 to 11 p.m. Admission: $10 for ages 13 and over; free for kids. 18840 Los Gatos-Saratoga Road, Los Gatos.  www.jackrosebar.com.

RESTAURANTS

Ludwig’s German Table:  Ludwig’s, located in a Victorian in downtown San Jose, will expand its Oktoberfest to two Saturdays this year: Sept. 22 and 29, from noon to 9 p.m. in the beer garden, restaurant and hall. Tickets, $31, include a Bavarian pork sausage plate with kraut, potato salad and pretzel. The Zicke Zacke Band will play inside the hall; arrive early to grab one of the limited seats there. 216 N. Teske’s Germania:  In San Jose, this historic restaurant-beer hall amps up its year-round German fare — think schnitzel and sauerbraten — with Oktoberfest music on several nights from now through the end of October. The Flying Dutchman will perform Sept. 28; the Internationals will take the stage in the biergarten Oct. 5, 12, 13, 19, 26 and 27; and the Gruber Family Band will step in on Oct. 20. Seating is first come, first served. Doors open at 5 p.m.; entertainment starts at 6:30 at 255 N. First St.  www.teskes-germania.com.

Speisekammer:  On three upcoming Sundays (Sept. 23, Sept. 30, Oct. 7) this traditional German restaurant in Alameda will host Oktoberfests with live music (Gruber Family Band the first week, then Polkageist, then Bayern Maiden), grilled meats and bounce house. Every year, Feadship Royal Dutch Shipyards presents a concept design at the Monaco Yacht Show. From September 25-28, 2024, as the shipyard celebrates the 75th diamond anniversary of the brand, Feadship's Studio De Voogt welcomes show guests to view their hospitality stand to learn about "C," a forward-looking design inspired by the cut facets of the world's favorite precious gemstone.

The 75-meter Concept C was so named for carbon, and for its homonym-like relationship to the words Sea and See. Boasting broad expanses of glass, the concept intends to take a cue from diamond gemstones, with a sparkling, dazzling, mesmerizing profile built with top-of-tech style.

Interior Spaces

The center of the yacht, also the center of guest circulation, is described as a light-filled gallery and fluid living space. Subtle transitions between decks engage with mezzanine half-levels, opening the spaces served by a combination of floating stairs and a lift without walls, described as a "flash of brilliance."

A posh beach club with sea-level dining and a partially enclosed lower deck sea lounge offer guests intimate connections to the sea. A pair of hexagonal pools with infinity edges to port and starboard are surrounded by a variety of seating areas. The duplex owner's suite connects to an articulating crow's nest accessed from the private observation deck.

Mechanical And Technological Innovations

According to Feadship, Motor Yacht C is fully researched and readily buildable. C will draw 100 percent of her power needs from fuel cells directly running on methanol with lithium metal batteries. Research has pointed Feadship in the direction of methanol as the best of current technologies, taking an additional step towards decarbonization of yachting activities. Ease of use and higher density were cited as advantages.

The yacht is expected to deliver a cruise speed of 14 knots with a maximum of 17 knots achieved with the addition of battery power to the DC electrical grid. Two wave-actuated fold-out fins placed on the hull aft of the anchors contribute added power. The fins generate energy through movement that is expected to meet one-third of C's hotel load in one-meter seas.

Borrowing technology from the Breathe concept of the Feadship Savannah , she was the first of her peers to sport hybrid propulsion back in 2015. The updated Breathe system for Feadship's C, engaging hull shape, fully electric propulsion, and inline contra-rotating propellers, predict the yacht to be 30 percent more efficient than the typical 75-meter megayacht with dual shafts, propellers, and rudders. The result equals improved fuel use and less wake.

Lower Deck Operation and Navigation Hub

In an unusual placement, the command center on the lower deck between the crew area and beach club embraces fully digital operation and navigation. The hub boasts top-of-industry situational awareness technology using cameras and data fusion. The unique location puts crew tasks in close proximity to one another, improving communication between engineering and navigation crews. The location also maximizes valuable guest spaces yielding improved owner value with the same gross tonnages.

Previous Monaco Yacht Show Concept Presentations

In 2023, Feadship unveiled its 12th concept yacht, Dunes , from its Studio De Voogt. highlighting passive reduction of energy use, amplified by the use of shading overhangs, along with elimination of teak decks, and a stacked radical propulsion system.

The presentation in 2022 featured Feadship's concept yacht Slice . Designed with a distinctive flow, inside and out, Slice redefined onboard circulation through unique atriums, and a 110 square meter pool deck. The technical area of the yacht was designed to accept low-to-no emission fuels, including biofuel, methanol, ethanol, and hydrogen fuel cell propulsion technologies.

The Monaco Yacht Show Unveiling

The 2024 Monaco Yacht Show will showcase Concept Yacht C at the Feadship Hospitality Stand. This ... [+] year, the stand will not be located in the shipbuilder T-dock section, but at an offsite location, providing a suitable space for celebrating the brand's 75th anniversary.

Scheduled to debut at the Monaco Yacht Show , Concept C will be well positioned in the hospitality stand of the Feadship brand. Designers Ruud Bakker and Tanno Weeda will accommodate inquiries, explain technologies, and explore designs via the physical model of the yacht and through video animation.

Η Astir Marina Βουλιαγμένης και το Yacht Club de Monaco ενίσχυσαν τη συνεργασία τους με την υπογραφή του Μνημονίου Κατανόησης (MoU), με στόχο την απόκτηση της πιστοποίησης "La Belle Classe Destinations by YCM". Η πιστοποίηση, θέτει ένα πρότυπο αριστείας ως προς την ποιότητα των εγκαταστάσεων, των υπηρεσιών και των εκδηλώσεων που προσφέρονται, δημιουργώντας ένα δίκτυο που προάγει την ανάπτυξη του βιώσιμου yachting σε διεθνές επίπεδο.

Στο πλαίσιο αυτής της συνεργασίας, εκπρόσωποι της Astir Palace είχαν την ευκαιρία να συναντηθούν με τον Πρίγκιπα Αλβέρτο Β' του Μονακό, ο οποίος παρακολουθεί στενά το έργο από περιβαλλοντική σκοπιά. Κατά την παραμονή τους στο Πριγκιπάτο, η Πέννυ Ζαγλαρίδου, Αντιπρόεδρος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου και Διευθύνουσα Σύμβουλος της Astir Palace Βουλιαγμένη, και ο Κωνσταντίνος Μήτσιος, Διευθυντής Ανάπτυξης, πραγματοποίησαν συνάντηση εργασίας με τον Bernard d’Alessandri, Γενικό Γραμματέα του Yacht Club de Monaco, και τον Aleco Keusseoglou προεδρο τοu port Monaco, για να συζητήσουν τον σχεδιασμό του νέου Astir Yacht Club.

Πολύτιμος σύμμαχος μας σε αυτή την διαδρομή και ο Δήμαρχος Βάρης – Βούλας Βουλιαγμένης, κ. Γρηγόρης Κωνσταντέλλος, που από την πρώτη μέρα υποστήριξε καθοριστικά το έργο αυτό, για να γίνει η Astir Marina ένα σημείο αναφοράς για τον τουρισμό στην χώρα μας.

Αυτή η συνεργασία αποτελεί μέρος της διαρκούς στρατηγικής της Astir Palace να αξιοποιήσει την εξειδίκευση του Μονακό στον τομέα του yachting. Από το 2019, όταν ξεκίνησε το φιλόδοξο έργο αναβάθμισης της Astir Marina με στόχο την παροχή υπηρεσιών κορυφαίας ποιότητας, η Μαρίνα έχει καθιερωθεί ως σημείο αναφοράς για έργα υψηλού επιπέδου. Η Astir Marina συνεργάζεται στενά με τη Société d’Exploitation des Ports de Monaco (SEPM), καλύπτοντας πτυχές που αφορούν τον σχεδιασμό υποδομών, τεχνικά και περιβαλλοντικά ζητήματα, καθώς και την εφαρμογή βέλτιστων πρακτικών.

Το Astir Yacht Club αναμένεται να ανοίξει τις πύλες του το 2026, αποτελώντας σημείο συνάντησης για τους λάτρεις της θάλασσας και του yachting, δημιουργώντας μια νέα κοινότητα θαλασσινών δραστηριοτήτων στην Αθηναϊκή Ριβιέρα.

Feadship announces 75m superyacht concept powered entirely by fuel cells

Dutch yard Feadship has announced a new, 75-metre concept known as C, with full details to be revealed at this year's Monaco Yacht Show . The superyacht has been designed by Studio de Voogt to commemorate Feadship's 75th Diamond Anniversary.

C is inspired by the design of a diamond and how its facets reflect and magnify light, which manifests in the use of glazing to "draw light deep into the yacht's interior". Her hull shape and fully electric propulsion system marks an evolution from the shipyard's concept Breathe, revealed in 2010 and the award-winning Savannah . 

This concept is predicted to be "30 per cent more efficient than a typical 75-metre yacht" with dual shafts, propellers, and rudders, according to Feadship. The yacht will also follow on from Feadship's ground-breaking Project 821 by drawing 100 per cent of her power needs from fuel cells directly running on methanol and complimented by lithium-metal batteries.

Other "innovations" on board C are the partially enclosed lower deck sea lounge, to be used at anchor or underway, a beach club with sea-level dining, a duplex owner’s suite and an articulating crow’s nest rising from a private observation deck. A pair of infinity-edge hexagonal pools match the shapes of various seating areas and the atrium. 

The new concept also follows on from an earlier concept, Pure, and the recently-delivered Ulysses with a fully digital command centre and navigation hub that includes "the latest in intelligent situational awareness technology with cameras and data fusion".

The yacht is expected to reach a top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots. Additional power for the hotel load will be generated passively by two pairs of wave-actuated fins that fold out from the hull aft of the anchors.

At the center of the C lies an atrium with floating stars and a lift without walls that allows seafarers to navigate decks in a novel fashion. Highlights of the living quarters include a duplex owner’s suite, a partially enclosed sea lounge that can be used at anchor or on the waves, a beach club with a sea-level dining area, and a private observation deck with an articulating crow’s nest. To top it off, C is outfitted with two infinity pools that match the hexagonal shape of the atrium and other seating areas.

C also shines on the technology front. She features a sleek hull and a fully electric propulsion system similar to sisterships Breathe and Savannah that renders her 30 percent more efficient than a typical 246-footer with dual shafts, propellers, and rudders, according to Feadship. Her streamlined underwater profile means less wake, too.

C will also be equipped with fuel cells and lithium-metal batteries that will together cover all power needs. (Feadship has also incorporated fuel cells on Project 821 .) Green methanol will be the fuel of choice due to its relatively high density and ease of use. Normal cruising speed on the fuel cells is 14 knots, while a top speed of 17 knots can be achieved by adding the battery power. In addition, two wave-actuated fins can generate enough grunt to cover one-third of the hotel load.

C will be fully unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show next week. The yacht is just a concept at this stage, but Feadship says she is completely buildable. Perhaps the yard will land a buyer at the show.
