In fact, paradise was only breached by asphalt in 1953. The Strada Statale 163 Amalfitana is a rollercoaster road that regularly features in Hollywood films. Your Y.CO Charter Specialist can hire you a vintage FIAT 500 to drive the same route. The road is dotted with white-washed villas, violet bougainvillea and golden-topped churches.
That’s the Amalfi Coast. Where historians can stroll the glories of Rome. Where epicureans can eat up Naples. Where little kids can climb mountains. And where big kids can bounce on a superyacht trampoline between Sorrento and Capri.
REASONS TO VISIT
WHY WE LOVE THE AMALFI COAST
Food Glorious Food
Naples is Italy’s culinary capital. While the Amalfi Coast is a calorific fantasy where folks genuinely eat ice cream sandwiches - brioche con gelato - for breakfast. Your Y.CO Charter Specialist can arrange cooking classes in top restaurants and vineyard tours by eBike. The must-eat? Ndunderi gnocchi. This Amalfi dumpling is so sensational it’s recognised by UNESCO.
History Around Every Corner
The Romans had the right idea. They used the Amalfi Coast as a high-end holiday destination. They planted vineyards on Capri. Scrawled scandalous graffiti near Marina di Stabia. And constructed donkey tracks that still lead hikers through teetering seascapes. Your Nikes will get a serious workout. In short, each stroll, swim and sail is a cultural history lesson - highlighted by over 300 sunny days per year.

After so much shopping, how about a late afternoon drink? The town square is the place to be. Order a Campari and soda, relax and watch the world go by.
For pre-dinner drinks, Quisisana’s front terrace is simply a delight. While you’re there, why not live the high life and try a Kir Royal? It’s a French cocktail consisting of crème de cassis topped with champagne.
There are so many wonderful places to dine in Capri, and for a relaxing garden experience and food extravaganza, reserve a table in Villa Verde. Interesting Charter Locations on the Amalfi Coast:
The Mediterranean is by far the most popular destination for luxury yacht charters and the trend is unlikely to change any time soon: an abundance of historic buildings and atmospheric ruins cover the coast and as a favourite summering destination for the gentry through the centuries, its local infrastructure has evolved with the times and is ready to cater to today’s wealthy visitors. Charter as a family group, with friends, or as a corporate charter and discover more activities and ancient villas than you can fill your time with at these destinations of the Amalfi Coast sure to impress with their beauty.
There is nowhere quite like Naples anywhere else in the Mediterranean: Mount Vesuvius makes for an impressive sight on the skyline as you anchor and sunbathe in the bay and the city stretches from one side of the gulf to the other.
Down winding streets, sacred sites and ruins are interspersed between looming houses as the waft of freshly baked bread scents the air. Pizza was first invented in the city and children and adults alike will have fun trying out the different toppings before finishing off a meal with delicious local ice cream.
As one of the world's longest inhabited sites, Naples has an abundance of art galleries, museums and theatres to spread throughout your visit, however the The National Museum of Archaeology has some of Pompeii's best artifacts from when the site was first excavated.
From afar, Naples is known as the city where pizza was invented: few realise that it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities, making it a cosmopolitan wonder filled with museums, forts and religious sites.
The Gesu Novo church is one of many impressive religious sites worth visiting this one honouring local Christian doctor Guiseppe Moscati who was raised to sainthood by the petition of the city’s residents.
The National Museum of Archaeology houses the best of Pompeii’s artifacts, which were removed in the early 18th Century. Yet Pompeii is still worth a visit: the ruins have their own haunting beauty and many of the intricate murals and wall paintings are preserved from the layers of ash that covered the site for more than 1,500 years.
Capri (and Anacapri)
Take advantage of the best aspects of your luxury yacht and cruise to the scenic island of Capri - all while you lie back in the sun loungers or dine alfresco on the sundeck. The limestone cliffs are beautiful to behold and create a special effect with lighting within the caves along the coast: When light reflects off the limestone bottom, a luminous blue glow fills the cave interior. The Blue Grotto is most famous for this sight, however you may be able to find your own limestone-lined cave away from the tourists farther along the coast.
The clarity of the water makes Capri and excellent place to snorkel, dive, play with the Seabobs or simply swim along the beaches. On land there is plenty to do and your group should make time to visit the carefully maintained Gardens of Augustus, from which you have an excellent view of the famous hairpin bends of Via Krupp road.
Once you're done sightseeing, indulge in some luxury shopping down the high street, then settle into the once of Capri's many cafes for an authentic Italian coffee.
While visiting Capri make the time to visit Anacapri on the other side of the island, which is less developed than the former location and has some stunning secrets all of its own: The region's distinctive Majolica tiles cover the square and the San Michelle Church has an exceptional floor mosaic of Paradise on Earth. Mount Solaro has the best views on the island and those in a rush can get to the top and back via the chairlift, rising above the sparkling blue sea and warm-toned houses.
The Amalfi coast is dotted with ruins of watchtowers that once warned settlements such as Sorrento of impending Saracen raids.
Today, Sorrento’s only fears of invasion come from an influx of tourists that double the town population in the summer months of July and August. Charter guests visiting outside the summer holiday season will discover a laid back town freshly stocked with sea food from the local fishing fleet, offering sumptuous Mediterranean dishes at each one of the many restaurants throughout the town.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, Amalfi became an independent republic and a force to be reckoned with on the water and established the original rules of the sea.
Now a quaint seaside town, Amalfi is most famous for the cathedral Duomo di Amalfi in the town centre. Steep steps lead up to the ancient iron doors that protect a stunning religious murals, sculptures and relics from the Holy Crusades, including the body of Saint Andrew located in the crypt.
Once you’ve toured the ancient streets of Amalfi, head up into the mountains to Marisa Cuomo in the village of Furore for a wine tasting session in a region of the world famous for its revelry.
Capri & Anacapri
The island of Capri is dotted with grottoes, the most famous of which is the Blue Grotto. Once inside this sea cave, the midday sun reflects off the bottom of the seabed, turning the water a shimmering neon blue.
The famous Kia Krupp road is located on Capri for those with the stomach for it, or view its hairpin bends from the captivating Gardens of Augustus.
In Anacapri, the San Michelle Church has an impressive floor mural depicting ‘Paradise on Earth’ and the town square is surrounded in the region’s characteristic Majolica tiles.
For the best views of the island, head to the top of Mount Solaro. However you reach the summit, you will be rewarded with stunning views of the natural limestone cliffs and colourful Mediterranean townhouses dotting the landscape.
From handmade furniture down twisting alleys to wide shopping streets filled with high-end Italian brands and luxury goods, Salerno is an open opportunity to shop away from the crowds of Naples and Capri.
For luxury yachts heading to the Eastern Mediterranean, Salerno is an excellent ‘final stop’ along the Amalfi coast as the area is studded with museums, cathedrals and ruins. It will also be the last chance to taste authentic Italian cuisine and Re Mauri is an idyllic five-star dining experience to remember long after your charter.
Make your holiday a culinary delight and include the town of Positano in your itinerary along the Amalfi Coast. Sample local wines at the cellar doors and savour freshly-caught seafood prepared to traditional recipes, or let your on board chef select ingredients from the local farmers' market to surprise and delight your group. Positano, Amalfi and Ravello are the jewels of the Amalfi Coast.
- Positano has always been a favorite with great artists and the illustrious of Italian history. The enchanting seaside town is doused with picturesque beaches, caves of La Porta and romantic candlelit restaurants.
- Amalfi , also scenic, is famous for its 6th century Duomo, which is a fascinating blend of culture and architecture. The Duomos original facade is in Oriental style, garnished with brilliant mosaics and bronze doors. Beside the Duomo, sits the Cloister of Paradise, built in Arabian style in the 13th century. It holds ancient sarcophagi, marble sculptures and mosaics.
- Ravello is perched atop a cliff, rising 350 ft above the sparkling waters of the Amalfi Coast. Ravello has preserved national monuments and historical features, unequalled by many towns in the world. The gorgeous natural surroundings and spectacular views of Ravello offer plenty to inspire a writer or poet.
Time and time again people exclaim that the only way to truly appreciate the beauty of the Amalfi Coast is to approach from the sea. A crewed luxury yacht charter along the Amalfi Coast will exceed expectations. There's nothing quite as romantic as anchoring your super yacht against such a picturesque backdrop.
Like most of the Mediterranean , the Amalfi Coast yacht chartering season runs from April to the end of October. The hottest months are July and August. August, in the height of summer madness, is a time when the Amalfi Coast should be avoided. Italian's flock from the main cities to escape the heat, resulting in an assault of tourists. Ironically, July and August is still the high season for yacht charter. The best times to charter your yacht are generally during shoulder season (May-June and September-October), each side of the main summer season. The temperatures are still comfortable, and the onshore tourists have yet to arrive in their largest numbers.

Hi Martha, I’ve been meaning to contact you. Where to begin? Our trip was spectacular and honestly, exceeded my expectations in every way. We were welcomed with a champagne reception. AOIBH was beautiful, modern, spacious and absolutely spic and span clean. The water “toys” were great and certainly were used daily. Our crew was fabulous; Fabio was attentive, great with guidance and always interested in our opinions on the itinerary du jour. He selected some beautiful, local wines that we enjoyed every day. Lynda, our cook-good GOD-she is incredible. Our family is a family of utter “foodies”; we seek out amazing restaurants and cook a lot at home. Given my Italian father and upbringing, we especially love good, proper Italian food. Lynda’s cooking was outrageously good. Everything she made was outstanding. Her food was so amazing (I dare say, better than any restaurant we dined at while on the Amalfi Coast the week before-and we ate at some lovely restaurants) that we had no interest in getting off at any ports to have food in “town”. Rather, we ate every meal onboard. This truly added a special touch to an already lovely trip. She went out of her way to meet our few food allergies- her cooking was like a week of a 5 star dining experience. Fabulous! Gemma was lovely as well-always attentive and proactive in making sure we had everything we needed-setting beautiful tables at meal times, etc. The crew was a delight to have around-another nice touch to our trip. Sardinia and the nearby archipelago was just stunning. Weather and water temperatures…perfect. We travel a lot and are fortunate to have done some amazing trips. All wholeheartedly agreed that this experience was tied for first place on our list of favorite trips. We will certainly look to book again with this crew and boat (or LIR). The water life in the Caribbean is more vibrant than in the Med-so we may look at that locale. We consider ourselves so lucky to have found this boat, crew and locale in what was the 11th hour. Thank you for all of your assistance with putting it together. We absolutely loved everything. Please, if you would, send our thanks to the owner as well. S/Y AOIBH / Southern Italy / Aug 2 – 8
