Fresh from the drawing boards: the new-style Princess 75 motor yacht

UK builder Princess Yachts presents its new Princess 75 Motor Yacht design. The 24 metre motor yacht shows off a new porthole shape, and she is designed to be extremely efficient.

Princess says the 75 Motor Yacht’s modified deep-V hull enables it to get up on plane at lower speeds. Three engine choices are provided, and the top end twin 1,800hp MAN V12s will provide a top speed of 35 knots.

The flybridge hosts seating on either side of the upper helm, providing excellent panoramas, while U-shaped seating and a dining table gives an al fresco option up top. The flybridge also has sunpads, a wetbar and there’s an option to add a hot tub or install a crane to launch a tender from here.

The aft cockpit offers a second spacious al fresco entertaining area and opens directly into the spacious main saloon. The interior of the 75 Motor Yacht is designed with a focus on letting natural light in, thanks to the huge glazing stretching from floor to ceiling and wrapping around the windshield. A sliding glass door that separates the galley from the dining saloon further accentuates this theme of letting light in. The saloon features a contemporary design motif.

The Princess 75 Motor Yacht will accommodate six guests in three cabins on the forward lower deck, all of which are en suite, while a separate stairwell leads to the owner’s suite amidships, comprising a bedroom, dressing area and en suite.

Review: Princess 75 Motor Yacht

The all-new Princess 75 Motor Yacht is a trendsetter that will influence future models.

princess 75 yacht review

The world-wide launch for this star of the Princess lineup was at the London Boat Show earlier this year, and her first in-water display was in Asia at the Singapore Yacht Show in April.

Princess has long staked their reputation on the seaworthiness of their designs. Now, the dynamic new styling of the Princess 75 makes a good product even more elegant, and offers increased cruising efficiency. The modified deep-V hull is both efficient and stable, and allows the yacht to plane at lower speeds. The yacht comes with a choice of three different engines, and can reach speeds of up to 36 knots with twin MAN V12 1800hp engines.

The elegant exterior artfully conceals a voluminous interior, where natural light flows into the main saloon, creating an informal, calm, and relaxed atmosphere. The extended window lines, in conjunction with the unique full-height window on the port side, make this area a spectacular free standing dining space. Comfortable sofa seating is paired with a full entertainment centre featuring a 50-inch LED television, DVD player, and MP3 system with clear and crisp surround sound.

A very special custom feature in the saloon of the first Princess 75 Motor Yacht is a bespoke humidor cabinet, and a bar box designed by Linley – Princess believe that they have found “a great synergy in Linley’s sophisticated skills, craftsmanship and design, particularly their unparalleled expertise in marquetry, and selection and hand dying of veneers.” The Linley for Princess Bar Box opens to reveal an immaculately designed interior stocked with Linley Trafalgar crystal and bar accessories.

The VIP accommodation is forward, on the lower deck, with all of the three guest cabins sporting their own en suites. The guest cabins can be configured either as doubles or with twin beds –  simply by pressing a button. The rooms also include specialist storage lockers, wardrobes, and stylish bedside tables.

To date, six Princess 75 motor yachts have been delivered, are in build, or on order, with a number of the units being from the original layouts presented by Princess. The company has produced a large yacht that is fast and fuel-efficient, giving a comfortable ride at high speeds up to 36 knots dependent upon the engine configuration. This package brings with it confidence on long cruises – and the fuel capacity of 1,300 gallons provides a good range. Collectively, this means a mix of performance and cruising ability that few, if any, in its class can match.

Taking the Princess 75 Motor Yacht as a whole, it is difficult to find a fault. The policy of listening to feedback from owners – coupled with attention to detail and rigorous quality control, and the production of so much of every yacht in-house – is certainly paying dividends. The 75 provides Princess with a cruising platform that meets most, if not all, the needs of a buyer, and sets a much-raised bar for future models from this UK manufacturer.

The Princess 75 Motor Yacht is here!

Thursday 8th October 2015

The eagerly anticipated Princess 75 Motor Yacht has arrived!  New for 2016, this elegant addition to the Motor Yacht range offers efficient, agile cruising combined with a spacious interior and dynamic new exterior styling. The modified deep V-hull enables planing at lower speeds, and with a choice of three engines, she can reach speeds up to 36 knots with a MAN V12 1800.

The deck layout is designed for relaxing or entertaining with ample options available, including walkthrough foredeck with U-shaped seating and sunbathing area.  L-shaped seating either side of the upper helm means she’s also sociable while underway.

In addition to panoramic views from the flybridge, the U-shaped seating with dining table, aft sunpad and wetbar provide ample further space to relax and unwind. There is also plenty of space to fit a crane and store a tender, or option for a spa bath.

Natural light flows in to her main deck through extended window lines and a unique full-height window on the port side make the free-standing dining area a spectacular place to entertain. Sliding glass panels separate the galley from the airy open-plan living space. Furthermore, the stunning contemporary design of the saloon opens out to the well-equipped cockpit via flush sliding patio doors to provide an incredibly spacious area for entertaining.

Forward on the lower deck, all three guest cabins are en-suite. The owner’s stateroom features a dressing area, en-suite and a 46″ television with entertainment system. Access to the owner’s stateroom is via a private staircase and lobby area – a neat feature for additional privacy.

Crew enjoy natural light through the glazing at the stern in the comfortable twin cabin with option for an additional berth.

The Motor Yacht with True Style

It is not difficult to see the fact that more and more people are getting the opportunity to enjoy the excitement of yachting. Yacht owners are becoming younger and younger and therefore, the yacht world must adapt to the change. Some companies are reluctant for this change, but within the Princess Yachts for sale today, we can plainly see that this is a company that embraces the new challenges and adapts the yachts to the needs of the modern yacht owner. The Princess 75 Y is the perfect example of this with clean lines and a light interior, but there is far more to love about this yacht than first appearance.

Speed at the Ready

The yacht owner of today does not want a slow bulky yacht taking up valuable running space on the water. They want to travel in supreme style and get to their destination in a fair amount of time. With the Princess 75 Y, getting to any destination quickly is no problem. The yacht is powered by twin MAN V12 1800 engines capable of powering the vessel to speed of up to 36 knots. For the size and girth of this yacht, that is an impressive feat. This yacht’s speed capabilities will appeal to most modern yachters and the supreme styling of the vessel has the potential to appeal to much older yachters as well.

Comfort for Guests and Crew

When heading out for a weekend, week, or even longer at sea, you want to have all of the comforts of home right at your fingertips. That not only includes comfortable and luxurious features, which the Princess 75 Y has, but also a capable crew to fulfill all needs while onboard. This yacht was designed to allow the crew to live onboard in their very own crew quarters. The crew quarters can house three comfortably, but bunks can be added to house a few more if needed.

The crew quarters are a nice touch, but if the quests are not taken care of and comfortable, the trip will not be very enjoyable. The Princess 75 Y is equipped with four full staterooms and four full bathrooms. The guests are segregated from the owner’s suite with a completely separate entrance into the guest cabins. The options for configuring these suites are versatile and whether you want full berths in each staterooms or a mix of bunks and singles, the layout allows for that customization

Access to the master suite is found port side of the main deck for a completely secluded entrance into the space. The owner has the privilege of taking advantage of the entire beam of the vessel. The bathroom is between the sleeping area and the engine room to act as a buffer to aid in the sound proof nature of the space. The space also features two large closets and a sitting area along with the queen bed. A unique feature for the space is the inserted lockable jewelry case located at the built in dressing table. This space can be used to store valuables of all types so you can enjoy the entire Princess 75 Y without worrying about your valuables

Large Flybridge

The standard flybridge design calls for a helm station and nominal seating. Princess Yachts are designed to maximize the overall potential for entertaining of this particular space. The flybridge onboard the 75 Y is massive and includes three lounge spaces and a large dining area along with a full summer kitchen space for preparing meals from the best vantage point of the yacht. The design has also moved the helm station from the sides into the middle to allow for more seating for the guests and to take advantage of the site lines from this vantage. There is also room at the back of the fly bridge that allows for multiple options including free standing furniture for additional entertainment area or room for a small tender with crane to assist it into the water. The options are endless onboard this remarkably well equipped yacht.

I just had a tour of a 2018 75 at the Princess VIP show. Quite nice! I was impressed. Very well laid out salon, nice helm with the seating on the port side allowed a good forward view. As a captain the crew area was excellent

We were there too! Beautiful boat with superb fit and finish. The performance specs are impressive, but I wish she had CATs in place on MANs. The only other thing I’d like to see is whether she could support an enclosed bridge - more like the similarly sized Viking.

I was there as well from 3-3:30 meeting an owner of one of the yachts I run (princess) and also one of the large dealers.......they went for a seatrial as the owner never rode on his boat yet. I ended up going up on Sunday and taking them to lunch as well. Hatteras is also having a big event in Palm Beach this coming weekend.

Those senders are mostly from DanFoss. Sometimes (SOME TIMES) the original part number are still on them. I got lucky once and it crossed to a Nason sender, in my inventory.
The performance and range figures are very good but how is the build quality and ride? From what I have read throughout the forum in years past, it seems to be a step below Sunseeker.

Nimbus 495 review: Unlike any you’ve seen before

  • Top stories

Swedish builder, Nimbus, changes the game with a 50ft flybridge unlike any you’ve seen before. Alex Smit takes it for a test drive

Quality flybridge cruisers in the 50ft range are not in short supply. Brands like Absolute, Fairline, Galeon, Prestige, and Princess offer stellar options at this size. The competition is fierce. So why would a Swedish sportsboat builder like Nimbus step into this space with the Nimbus 495? Nimbus has never focused on this sector.

Despite delivering more than 12,000 boats in 86 models since 1968, the new Nimbus 495 Fly is the largest it has ever built. It’s also the first to feature IPS drives and one of only two flybridge cruisers in Nimbus’s current fleet.

The decision makes sense from a business perspective. Nimbus has a loyal customer base and wants to offer an option beyond the 40ft mark without forcing them to switch brands. The design and approach Nimbus is taking with this 50ft flybridge are different enough to stand out.

The 495’s compact upper deck is shifted aft and sunken deep, reducing the impact on its profile.

Coupé with a toupée

The trend for big, open-plan living spaces has made single-level decks almost standard in flybridge design. However, the Nimbus 495 picks up on the brand’s coupé heritage. Its compact upper deck is positioned aft and sunken, reducing the impact on the profile.

This allows for sunroofs above the lower helm. The shorter rear end also creates space for solar panels above the cockpit.

Despite its compact size, the flybridge provides enough space to serve as a leisure zone. Across from the helm, a starboard dinette and sun pad are combined, providing seating for 12. The cushions extend forward, making the skipper’s duties sociable.

Facilities on the flybridge are minimal but practical. There’s a drawer fridge beneath the co-pilot seat and a table with a sink and removable chopping board. The sink serves well as a quick-access stash for drinks or ice.

Designer Joacim Gustavsson has cleverly mitigated potential downsides. The low-profile flybridge could compromise headroom in the lower saloon. But by placing the upper dinette on the starboard side, the saloon gets extra headroom where it’s needed most.

The flybridge deck reduces vertical space on the port side of the saloon. However, this space is used exclusively for lounge seating, making any headroom limitations irrelevant.

Main deck day spaces

The flybridge steps are another smart design element. Joacim made them steep to maximize cockpit space, but they are sandwiched between the superstructure for security. The space beneath the steps is used for an electrical cabinet.

The semi-closed design of the aft deck is also noteworthy. A transom window swings out from the overhead moulding, separating the boat from the pontoon traffic at a stern-to berth. It provides better light and views than a canvas curtain.

The island sunbed comes with an integrated forward lounger

A traditional L-shaped settee faces a large starboard galley, where a fold-out bar connects the saloon and cockpit. Further aft, there’s a lazarette with a fold-out wet bar, a drop-down seat, and a hi-lo platform with an integrated ladder.

Though the cockpit bench is asymmetrical, you can still climb into the cockpit via the gunwale-top tread plates on the port side. The fender nets in the port hatches, though practical in theory, seem too tight to be genuinely useful.

Access to the bow is excellent, thanks to broad, deep side decks. The bow space is more sociable than the compact aft cockpit, but the saloon is the true highlight.

princess 75 yacht review

The reduced headroom created by the flybridge deck is well managed with a casual saloon dinette

The saloon places the galley at the center of the action and offers seating that doesn’t leave passengers envying the skipper. The raised companion seating to port, opposite the helm, is a beautiful feature.

Passengers sit at the same level as the skipper, with unobstructed views. The curved glass at the saloon’s corners enhances light and views, avoiding the boxiness of sharp corners. Nimbus’s styling remains subtle and refined, staying true to its Nordic roots.

Thoughtful design

Below deck, the Nimbus 495 features a full-beam owner’s cabin amidships, along with two bathrooms to port, leaves space on the starboard side for a bunk cabin rather than a twin. There’s also a VIP cabin in the bow, allowing for six people across three cabins.

Nimbus is exploring the option of splitting the owner’s cabin into two doubles, which would be great for charters or large families. Despite its sleek profile, the below-deck

area feels natural and unobstructed, thanks to thoughtful design choices.

The owner’s cabin, in particular, stands out. Instead of the usual bulky storage cabinets on both sides of the bed, there’s a deep lounge seat on the port side and a full-length chaise longue beneath the starboard hull window. While some may prefer facing seats and a breakfast table, Nimbus’s manufacturing flexibility means custom options can be incorporated into the design.

The scale of the owner’s cabin means there’s only space for a bunk room to starboard

Radical refinement

The Nimbus 495 accommodation is separated from the engine room by a cavity containing twin 850L tanks and a gyroscopic stabiliser. This setup offers several benefits. It places core weight further forward and lower in the boat, and it reduces noise levels at the helm to less than 70dB, even at the 29-knot top end.

The result is a remarkably quiet and comfortable boat, with superior refinement compared to other models in this sector.

The Nimbus 495 is easy to handle, too. The skipper’s side door is large enough to serve both the helmsman and saloon guests, providing direct access to the side gate and offering convenient tie-off points.

Plenty of space in the forward VIP

The wheel and throttle are well-positioned, with a central hub for key switching and F1-style paddles for the windscreen wipers. On the high-spec test boat, Volvo’s Joystick Driving system allows for joystick-only operation. Some may find this odd, but it’s worth considering, especially if the joystick can be relocated to a chair-mounted plinth for added comfort.

Upstairs, the upper helm is one of the best seen on a flybridge cruiser. The gap between the helm seats allows the co-pilot to move freely without disturbing the skipper. The seats are low-slung for better protection, though this limits visibility of the bow. You can stand up or use the bolster if a clearer view is needed, or rely on Garmin’s Assisted Docking system for a bird’s eye view of the boat.

In terms of handling, the 495 behaves like the modified coupé that it is. There’s a slight bow lift on the plane, easily corrected with the tabs, and some heel in turns, quickly balanced with the wheel. The weight distribution is well managed, and the cruising band is generous. A 16-17 knot cruise gives a range of 230 miles, while the 29-knot top speed keeps fuel consumption under 7L/Nm, maintaining a range around 200 miles.

princess 75 yacht review

If the weight feels well distributed, the generosity of the cruising band is also quite striking

If the idea was to deliver simple sportsbridge flexibility rather than flybridge volume, alongside a faithful coupé-style aesthetic, all wrapped up in a package that echoes Nimbus’s heritage while differentiating itself from the rest of the market, then it’s worked. If you own a Nimbus and are keen to upsize without abandoning the brand, this is the solution; and if you enjoy Nimbus coupés but fancy the extra flexibility of a flybridge, this will hit the mark. There are some provisos of course. The flybridge is small, the styling is understated and it doesn’t come with the option of a crew cabin. But if none of that fazes you, then this ultra-refined Nordic interpretation of the 50ft flybridge cruiser is likely to raise a very big smile
