Till this very day we remain the same people with the same ideals and core values. However our team has grown with members who share the same passion and desire for welcoming guests to Greece in the best manner imaginable, onboard a boat.

After 20 years running YachtSailing, people have a lot to say about us.
We were dealt a Royale Flush on the Casino Royale catamaran in the Greek islands. Yachtsailing.com made the transition from our hotel to boat a breeze by Eugene and his staff. We got greeted by our Captain Haris
I listened to the wisdom of Yacht Sailing guru Eugene - who helped me plan a stunning week long adventure with Vicky & Captain Harris which gave our group the time to explore and rest in perfect measures.
This is my first time on a catamaran. I didn’t know what to expect so everything was a new experience for me. This was a trip of a lifetime for my husband and myself.

Whether you’d prefer to charter a boat with a skipper or would rather steer your own course, there are many destinations to visit, including fascinating Greek cities and a multitude of gorgeous islands that all add up to a dream holiday on the water.
How much does it cost to charter a catamaran in Greece?
If you want to rent a catamaran in Greece, you will have to spend at least $1199 per day or $8391 per week in low season, and $1019 per half day, $1798 per day, or $12587 per week in high season. Catamarans are generally rented with a skipper and you can even find a crewed charter in Greece if you want a really luxurious trip. Check the mandatory and included extras with the owner.
Other factors that can influence the price are length, age of a yacht, capacity, duration of charter, extras, etc. If you find a skippered catamaran charter in Greece, the additional cost starts at $200 per day. Where exactly you want to rent a catamaran in Greece can also influence the price.
For example, a catamaran rental in Athens will usually be considerably cheaper than a yacht charter in the Greek Islands. Don’t miss out on your perfect Greece sailing charter!
Is it possible to rent a catamaran in Greece with or without a skipper?
It is possible to find a catamaran charter in Greece with or without a skipper. There are only a few catamarans available without a skipper so if you’re set on a bareboat Greece sailing charter, make sure to book early! A bareboat yacht charter in Greece is a great idea if you want to be captain of your sailing experience.
If you are a new sailor we recommend a skippered catamaran rental in Greece! This way, you can enjoy your sailing holiday, island hopping, and swimming in the blue waters. Sailing yachts are also available with a crew that can cook delicious meals and prepares drinks for you and your guests. There is nothing like a private yacht charter in Greece to explore islands including Dodecanese islands !
What can I do with a catamaran rental in Greece?
As Greece is located in southern Europe and enveloped by the Aegean, Cretan, Libyan and Ionian seas, a catamaran rental in Greece has all the ingredients for a perfect holiday. Drop anchor for the day and explore the historic city of Athens, or choose Crete for your day trip and revel in the beautiful mountain ranges that cross the island.
Filled with peninsulas and islands that are ripe for exploration, you can choose a route that takes in the scenery of Santorini, Corfu, Mykonos , or Paros . Check out one of our recommended routes for Greece from Athens to Milos .
A luxury yacht charter in Greece can be from for a day or longer! If you choose to rent a yacht for a day, then why not beach hop and find your perfect paradise? In Greece, yacht charters give you more freedom to explore with your moving home.
If you find a week-long, skippered yacht charter in Greece, you can sit back and soak up the perfect weather while someone else takes care of getting you to your chosen destinations. The joys of your exclusive catamaran rental signify complete freedom to navigate to your favorite and most desired locations in Greece! We recommend going through the Aegean sea and discovering the numerous islands or staying close to the main cities such as Athens and heading to the Saronic islands.
A yacht charter in Greece gives you endless possibilities. No matter where you choose to sail you are sure to find turquoise waters, fishing villages, and island chains to explore.
Other Sailing areas in Greece
Those renting in or visiting Athens should take some time to visit the iconic Acropolis and Parthenon. You can view the Acropolis in the evening from terrace bars such as 360 Cocktail Bar - a personal favorite! Avid gin lovers should also pop into Gin Joint and feast their eyes on all the incredible types of gins and inventive concoctions!
Scrumptious Greek food can be sampled (or devoured) at Tzitzikas Kai Mermigas and The Karamanlidika Fanis.
The Cyclades also offer exciting and luxurious opportunities. Moor in Mykonos and watch the sunset with a cool glass of champagne given the windmills of Kato Mili. The bar and nightlife here are chic, relaxed, and oh-so-fun!
The Cyclades consist of many islands you can venture to on your luxury yacht charter in Greece. Snap away at Santorini’s spectacular mountainous landscape layered with pretty white houses and blue-domed churches.
You have many options for your yacht rental in Greece and so many things to do! Don't miss out!
What are the most popular islands to visit in Greece?
There isn’t a definitive answer regarding which is the best Greek island to visit with your boat charter as each island has something unique to offer. If you want to be privy to some of the most sensational sunsets in the Mediterranean, Santorini is the spot for you.
The magnificent views and luxurious atmosphere of the island make it especially popular with honeymooners or couples looking for a romantic getaway. It also has several spectacular natural wonders, none more impressive than the underwater volcano that still simmers away to this day.
If Ancient Greek culture fascinates you, Crete is the island for you. The excavations at Knossos, which was at the heart of the Minoan civilization are some of the most well-known in Greece and many of the finds are now on display in the Archaeology Museum of Heraklion.
Ancient architecture is not all that Crete is good for though. It is also one of the best places to visit if you’re searching for secluded coves and hiking trails. The best beaches include those such as Preveli, Potamos, and Elafonissi.
If you want to visit some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean, Zakynthos is a good bet. Shipwreck Beach, so-called for the shipwreck that lies in the middle, is only accessible by boat, making it fairly secluded, despite its popularity. The Blue Caves at Cape Skinari are another reason to visit Zakynthos. Visit them and marvel at the seemingly neon glow of the light reflecting off the water onto the walls.
If you want to party, however, you should go to Mykonos. While this island is every bit as beautiful as the other islands listed here, Mykonos is primarily known for its party scene, consisting mostly of beach clubs with lively dance music.
What weather and sailing conditions can you expect when you rent a catamaran in Greece?
The weather in Greece, following the Mediterranean climate, from May to October is sublime. For those who enjoy scorching temperatures, visit in July and August when temperatures are 30°C+ and you can cool off in the pleasant sea waters.
The Meltemi wind usually blows in a northerly direction during the summer and can sometimes reach powerful wind forces depending on the area. This is worth researching, as areas in Greece vary. For example, in the Ionian Islands, the wind force in July and August ranges from 4-6, whereas in the Cyclades the wind force averages from 5-7.

From the moment of initial contact with Captain Yiannis, everything was seamless.
Our experience has been nothing short of exceptional.
From the moment of initial contact with Captain Yiannis, everything was seamless. This company and the entire team could not have been more helpful! We live in the USA and never had a problem with communication. The Catamaran we selected was the Lagoon 450F. It was beautiful, spacious, clean, and easy to live on for a week as we sailed to beautiful beaches.
The Ionian Islands we visited were breathtaking, especially Kefalonia – it was our favorite! Above all, the feeling of safety that Captain George ensured throughout our trip made our journey even more memorable. We can’t wait to experience it again.
So, if you’re looking for an unforgettable sailing experience around the Greek Islands with a professional company and a knowledgeable and friendly guide, look no further!

Great knowledge of the area and its history.
Excellent week of sailing in the Greek Islands with Yiannis. He has great knowledge of the area and its history. He showed us unique beaches and key sites on the islands. A memorable week of adventure, drama, and weather. A great first visit to the country of Greece and its islands. Recommend Yiannis as a skipper and guide for your trip.

The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering.
We made it back safely and happily to Paros today. Yianni showed us secluded beaches, surprising chortas and agreed to take us to santorini even though he hates sailing there! The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering it on occasion. It’s a beautiful part of the world and we’d definitely recommend exploring it.

Yannis is a superb captain
First and foremost, Yannis is a superb captain. He is a true professional and puts the comfort and safety of the guests first. We had a superb week and thanks to the knowledge of Yannis we visited hidden beaches and places that were sublime. Yannis is passionate about sailing, and we all improved our sailing skills and learned about sailing this magical part of the world.
We cannot wait to return and know that Captain Yannis is our go-to Greek master of the seas.”

The best tavernas for dining and the most interesting places to visit.
My friends and I had a terrific sailing trip with Cpt. Yiannis. We sailed islands from Athens to Milos for a week. [...] Captain Yiannis was not only an outstanding skipper, but he also is a very knowledgeable tour guide. [...] Also, he had tremendous knowledge of any island we stopped on the way and recommended the best tavernas for dining and the most interesting places to visit.
The captain was very professional and sailed extremely safe and responsible. Great guy, a great captain, thank you, Captain Yiannis!

Yannis gave us the ideal family yacht
We had a wonderful week of sailing in the Saronic Gulf end of August. Yannis gave us the ideal family yacht for this bareboat charter trip . Together with the charter company we felt us in very good hands, for all questions we had. Except in this year 2020, with these special conditions!
Thanks Yiannis.

CATAMARAN CHARTER IN GREECE
Catamarans are distinguished by their dual hulls, offering not only significantly enhanced stability but also increased space, privacy, and comfort compared to traditional monohull sailing yachts. All catamarans boast fantastic sundecks, trampolines, and roomy living areas that provide excellent panoramic views of the stunning Greek landscapes. Catamarans typically feature a shallow draft, allowing them to navigate into shallower waters near the shore, making them an ideal choice for group outings with friends or family.
Below, you can explore our diverse range of catamarans, based in various marinas across Greece, available for bareboat charter, skippered charter, or crewed charter. If you have a specific marina in mind for your charter that differs from the indicated "base marina," please don't hesitate to get in touch with us, and we will make every effort to accommodate your request.
Please be aware that for a bareboat charter, it is necessary to hold a valid International Certificate of Competence (ICC). If you possess an ASA or RYA equivalent license, it can be readily converted into an ICC in your home country. Additionally, we recommend that at least one additional guest on board holds an RYA Competent Crew Certificate or its equivalent.

If you're looking for the best catamaran rental in Greece, we have you covered.
10 Reasons to Charter a Catamaran in Greece
1. perfect sailing conditions, 2. captivating coastline, 3. extraordinary heritage, 4. breathtaking beaches.
- Navagio Beach , better known as ‘Shipwreck Beach’, located on the island of Zakynthos, which is a charming cove sheltered by towering cliffs, and being only accessible by boat, it is the perfect spot to cruise your catamaran.
- Milos island’s Sarakiniko Beach is distinctive, with white, sun-bleached volcanic rocks shaped into spectacular formations
- Balos Beach and Lagoon in Crete is something different again! It’s vast pink sands, saltwater pools, and turquoise waters make for a spellbinding and unique landscape, so if you charter your Catamaran from Heraklion or Agios Nikolaos, make sure you pay a visit to Balos beach.
5. Countless Marinas
- Alimos Marina in Athens: One of the largest marinas in Greece and the Mediterranean, with a capacity for over 2,000 yachts.
- Gouvia Marina in Corfu: A large marina with over 800 berths, Gouvia Marina is a popular stop for sailors cruising the Ionian Sea.
- Porto Heli Marina in the Peloponnese: With its clear blue waters and well-protected harbour, Porto Heli is one of the most well-known marinas in the Peloponnese region.

8. Vibrant Nightlife
9. food and wine, 10. flexibility, remarkable ruins.
A catamaran charter anywhere in Greece means you won’t be far from some of the world’s most treasured ancient ruins. Charter your catamaran from Marina Alimos in Athens, and make your way to the Acropolis, where in 510BC, the Delphic Oracle declared that the city of Pericles should be a province of the Gods - considered to be one of the most important ancient remains in the western world. Or head west to the Ancient Delphi; UNESCO world heritage site on the slopes of Mount Parnassos, considered – according the Greek mythology – to be the centre of the world. If your navigation route passes Crete, it’s worth mooring and taking a trip to the Palace of Knossos, the island’s most famous historical attraction, and Europe’s oldest city.
Island Hopping
With over 6000 islands to explore, Greece is such an ideal destination for a charter holiday. Navigate through the Ionian Sea and discover the emerald island of Corfu, much greener than others, it is cloaked in over 3 million olive trees, so is the perfect place to take a hike and breath in the freshest of air. Or sail around the Cyclades and experience the famous island of Santorini, taking in the breathtaking views of the caldera over a glass of wine at sunset, or the wild charm of the mountainous island of Andros, with its orange and almond groves and mulberry forests.
The Cyclades Islands
- The volcano of Santorini offers a unique opportunity to sail to the top of a volcano, visit the hot springs, and witness the breathtaking views from the crater.
- The island of Nea Kameni, the volcanic islet in the caldera's centre, offers a great opportunity to swim and snorkel in the warm waters.
- The island of Thirassia is the quieter and more traditional sister island of Santorini.
- The Red Beach and the White Beach, two of the most famous beaches on the island, are known for their red and white volcanic sands, respectively.
Sailing With or Without a Crew
For those seeking a more hands-on experience, a bareboat catamaran rental in Greece allows you to captain your own vessel, while a crewed catamaran cruise in Greece provides a more relaxed and guided experience.
Getting There
Greece is well connected, with various international airports located both on the mainland and on the islands, so reaching your catamaran charter base is simple!
- Athens / Lavrio: Athens International Airport is Greece’s busiest, located 20km east of central Athens.
- Corfu: Corfu International Airport or Ioannis Kapodistrias (Capodistrias) International Airport is located 2km south of Corfu Town.
- Mykonos : Mykonos International Airport is located 4km from Mykonos town.
- Lefkada: The nearest airport is Aktion National Airport, located about 25km from Lefkada town.

Crewed Catamaran Charter Greece
My Greek Charter 〉 Catamaran Charter Greece
We are continuing to see an increase in sailing catamaran charters in Greece. Crewed catamarans offer a sweet balance between luxury and affordability and are a very convenient way for a large number of guests (up to 12) to share a comfortable sailing holiday in the Greek Islands.
But keep in mind that the distances between the Greek islands can be quite long, with over 100 nautical miles between Athens and Santorini, and the weather can be strong. -Not an ideal route to plan for a 1-week sailing catamaran charter.

These 4 New Innovative Sunreef Eco Catamarans Pave the Way for Sustainable Yacht Charter 2024
So, what is the ideal catamaran charter itinerary? It will include the Saronic Islands , located closer to Athens, providing easier island hopping less affected by the weather , with the chance of hopping across to the Cyclades if wind permits.
If your heart is set on a Catamaran charter in the Cyclades , especially if you are planning to visit Santorini, we recommend chartering out of Mykonos .
Our brokers will find you a Mykonos-based yacht or arrange delivery of your desired yacht to the starting location of your sailing adventure.
Why Charter a Crewed Catamaran?
Charter catamarans are rapidly growing in size, keeping up with an ever increasing demand for the most luxurious vessel on the market. – In 2020 , the average length of a crewed catamaran was 45 feet . Where, at the end of 2023, the average size of a new catamaran charter was 67 feet .
Given a crazy expansion of the sailing catamaran fleet (demanding a whole new boat show to accommodate this segment starting in 2023 ), the catamarans are getting closer in onboard capacity to motor yachts, yet they are still significantly more affordable. If you’re looking to get a recent Lagoon 52 catamaran sailing charter with crew, inquire early.
Catamarans vs Motor Yachts
Catamarans will generally have a much lower fuel consumption, with comparable deck space at the expense of speed. A Catamaran will also be able to get closer to the beach and will get to marinas easier than a huge motor yacht that had a change of itinerary and is looking for a last-minute spot on the dock (and will probably anchor out, hailing the guests from shore with a dinghy).
With the deck space being comparable in Catamaran Charter, the choice has more to do with your vision for your charter style. Are you looking for a wider deck that’s arguably more casual for a group to sit down, or are you looking to have a bottle of something really nice served to you on the aft deck of a Ferretti motor yacht ?
- Lower fuel consumption (especially for catamaran SAILING) compared to motor yachts. This can significantly impact the overall charter price, especially for longer catamaran charters.
- Shallow draft – you can get quite close to secluded beaches and white sands with a catamaran charter.
- Access to the dock— especially in high season, bigger yachts might need to stay out of the harbor and access it with a dinghy.
- Captain + stewardess is still the most common crew combination (it keeps the costs down), and bigger, motor yacht-like luxury catamarans are on the rise (with more crew).
- In Greece, a 10% gratuity is paid after the Catamaran charter is considered completely satisfactory. Compare that to the (up to) 25% mandatory gratuity that is increasingly being demanded in escrow pre-charter in the Caribbean or the Bahamas.
- Use of water toys and water sports – rules are more relaxed and definitely less enforced compared to France or Italy – it’s not the same if you get on a jet ski in a secluded bay on Iraklia or in the overcrowded Gulf of St Tropez.
- Low speed mandating a limited itinerary or a lot of sailing hours – It is not unusual for a catamaran charter to move before sunrise to break it up. Can be mitigated by starting in the destination – Mykonos, Santorini, Lefkada (Ionian Islands), Patmos or Ikaria (Dodecanese), Skiathos (Sporades – Mamma Mia Islands).
- Smaller crew – used to be 2 crew members, now growing (it’s both a positive and a negative) as per your price sensitivity. Compared to the Caribbean – there are more options.
- Vertical layout – 2 or 3 decks on a horizontally constrained area.
Power Catamarans – The Perfect Middleground?
The decision between a motor yacht and a catamaran can be tough, so what about meeting halfway and getting the best of both worlds?
There are several reasons why a power catamaran is better than a motor yacht , including better stability, space, fuel efficiency, and much cheaper rental costs.
When comparing a power catamaran to motor yachts in terms of onboard space, a power catamaran often provides a living experience comparable to that of a motor yacht that is 15-20% longer .
This means a 70-foot power catamaran would typically be matched against an 80 to 85-foot motor yacht when it comes to the amount of usable space.
Why a Power Catamaran Charter Beats a Motor Yacht: A Look at the 70-foot Sunreef Skylark
Sailing Catamarans vs Power Catamarans
Both sailing catamarans and power catamarans have the advantages of being multihull yachts: They have more deck space and better stability than monohulls. The only difference between the two is that one is able to sail, BUT this is not a small detail.
As a rule of thumb, sailing catamarans are more fuel-efficient , eco-friendly, and ideal for sailing enthusiasts, as they can move by the power of the wind. However, they are also generally slower and rely more on wind conditions being right.
Power catamarans , on the other hand, offer faster speeds and more space. They are less dependent on wind and are generally designed to work like a motor yacht—however, with more space.
The question is, are you looking for a catamaran sailing adventure or a cheaper and more spacious alternative to a smaller motor yacht ?

Where to Go on a Catamaran Charter in Greece?
The best areas to charter catamarans will have small distances between destinations and calm waters.
Although catamarans are more than capable of crossing oceans, they are slower than motor yachts , which is why they aren’t good for long-distance itineraries unless you have a lot of time or do not mind spending many hours at sea every day.
Are the Cyclades Islands a Great Area for a Catamaran Charter?
Yes and no – if planned well and with the expectation that things might change at the last minute, dictated by the weather, a catamaran charter in the Cyclades can be a relaxing and pleasurable experience. However, if you’re an exact planner and not willing to be flexible, it is wise to avoid it .
A yacht charter in the Aegean Sea is subject to the elements —if the weather is bad, the port authority bans charter yachts from departing (usually just the motor yachts, but do you really want to be out there?). This happens more frequently in the Cyclades Islands than in other areas in the Aegean Sea.
We’ve had experiences where a stubborn travel agent (yes, we cooperate with travel agents on the condition we’re taken seriously) has booked activities on a rigid itinerary with total disregard for the weather conditions and its unpredictability.
-Horse riding on Siros, a dinner reservation in Skorpios on Mykonos, and wine tasting on Santorini starting at 9 a.m. sharp on a Saturday morning—you need Poseidon’s blessing to commit to that.
We want to be transparent with you so that you know what to expect, can make realistic plans, and avoid disappointment or wasted money on missed bookings.
If you’re afraid there is nothing to see apart from Santorini and Mykonos in the Cyclades Islands, let Louis Lamprell show you what the Captains say about charter locations in the Saronic Gulf in the video below.
Best Catamaran Charter Destinations in Greece – These are the Captains’ Favorite Greek Islands!
We recently attended the EMMYS (East Mediterranean Multihull and Yacht Charter Show) in Poros and MEDYS (Mediterranean Yacht Show) 2024 in Poros and Nafplion, Greece. During these events, we explored over a hundred catamarans and motor yachts and met their captains and crews. One question we repeatedly asked was, ‘Where is your favorite place to take a charter?’
Throughout the events, the captains shared their personal favorite destinations , drawing from their many years of experience sailing around Greece and exploring also the less-talked-about Greek islands . Their firsthand knowledge presents a treasure trove of enchanting alternatives, free from the congestion of the more tourist-heavy islands.
Here is what they recommended:
Top 5 Charter Locations in the Saronic Gulf You Must Know – Spetses, Hydra, Poros, Epidaurus, Aegina
Captains Share: Top 10 Greek Charter Destinations in the Cyclades
Saronic islands: the no. 1 area to charter a catamaran in greece.
The Saronic Gulf is perfect for first-time charterers – with 2 to 4 hours cruise between islands outside of the Meltemi winds, fantastic locations , stunning coastline, secluded bays, stunning beaches, and amazing things to do such as the Pistachios of Aegina , walking the old town of Poros or snorkeling the Sunken City of Ancient Epidaurus .
Cyclades Islands: One of the Most Popular Area to Charter a Catamaran in Greece
Second up are the Cyclades Islands – still perfectly doable on a 7-day catamaran sailing vacation, especially if you plan on starting in the actual Cyclades instead of “ taxiing ” there from Athens .
Starting in the Cyclades, captains are in a great position to account for the weather (instead of having to cross large distances from Athens) and provide a pleasurable yacht charter, either hitting the hot spots— the windmills of Mykonos (or its vibrant night clubs), the sights of the city of Thira on Santorini, the ancient Delos—or the hidden gems, such as the forgotten island of Anafi .
A good broker and a good captain will list your preferred activities and pre-arrange them on a confirmation basis .
Due to our long time in the industry, we have build relationships with many businesses, attractions, restaurants, and activity providers. We can get you to stuff you did not know existed
-Would you, for example, like to have a private dinner in an iconic ancient ruin ? Would you like to have a famous singer show up at your birthday party at Mykonos? Say the word, and we will make it happen!

How to book a catamaran charter in greece.
Ideally, you will inquire about a catamaran charter 12 months in advance . WHY? The best catamarans are often fully booked long in advance and it is not unusual to see popular dates booked 2 summers ahead for a Greek Island yacht charter .
Inquiring less than 6 months ahead often means that your first choice is unavailable for charter. Additionally you might find that the yacht you want can’t make it to the port where you wish to commence your yacht charter.
This is especially important if you are planning to charter in the popular destination -the Cyclades (and we recommend you fly into Mykonos international airport to start there). Many things have to fall into place to make a succesfull charter vaccation happen, so inquire early!
- Most luxury catamarans are based in Athens (marinas from Piraeus in the west to Saunio in the east).
- Of the catamarans permanently based in the Cyclades , most have temporary availability.
- You will also find catamarans based in the Ionian islands available for charter.

Very professional, communicated clearly and planned an amazing trip for us. Louis Lamprell did an amazing job connecting us with the unbridled yacht and crew. It was a trip of a lifetime. Our family highly recommends both DMA yachting and the unbridled charter. Everything was perfection!

This was a trip of a lifetime! We booked with Nadja at DMA yachting and she made sure the entire process was easy and no problems. Our charter was with Zuri3 and our Captain Andre and First Mate Jana made our trip amazing! They made sure everything was taken care and treated us like royalty. This is not just a vacation this is an experience of a lifetime.

Louis was great from beginning to end and walked me through the whole process. He helped me find a great boat that fit within our time and cost preferences. He explained the differences between the different builds and the pros and cons. Once we selected the boat, he explained and walked me through the whole booking process and answered all my questions. Finally, he checked in with me before, during, and after the charter to make sure everything met our expectations. I can’t recommend Louis enough if you are planning a charter, and I will definitely be in touch for our next trip!

One of our most popular catamaran charter experiences is the Saronic Islands tour, which offers a blend of picturesque landscapes, historical sites, and vibrant local cultures, making it a favorite among many of our guests.
Our Tailored Catamaran Adventures Across Greek Islands service can help you craft the perfect itinerary based on your preferences.
Do I Need a License to Rent a Skipperred Catamaran in Greek Waters?
Typically, greece allows to rent a skippered catamaran charter without having a license. The skipper or captain handling the yacht will be responsible for the navigation and operation of the vessel. This allows individuals without boating experience or licenses to still enjoy a sailing holiday without the need for any specialized qualifications. However, it is important to verify the specific requirements and regulations of the charter company or destination you are planning to rent from, as they may have their own policies in place. If you prefer to rent a bareboat yacht charter, you may need a license, especially for larger boats. The specific licensing requirements vary from country to country. In many places, including popular charter destinations like Greece, Croatia, and the British Virgin Islands, a valid sailing license or certification such as the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) or a similar qualification is required for a bareboat catamaran experience.

Yacht Charters in Greece with Istion
Greece is quite simply the perfect sailing destination in Europe. Blessed with a mild southern Mediterranean climate with an extended summer giving a comfortable sailing season of close to eight months, our small country has over 13,000 kilometres of coastline to explore . That impressive number comes from the over 6000 islands and islets scattered like diamonds in the sea, each of them inviting you to swim for hours, socialise while tasting Greece’s well know cuisine and enjoy the beauty of a Greek summer spent next to the waves. Greece is truly a sailor’s paradise .
At Istion Yachting, we have been providing unforgettable sailing holidays in Greece for more than 30 years. From our humble beginnings on the island of Kos in 1992 we now offer charters throughout Greece from our 11 main charter bases. Our experienced skippers and crews, charter base staff, planning departments and every one of the wider Istion team is an expert in their field and is ready to assist you in planning the perfect sailing holiday in Greece . We look forwarded to welcoming you this summer!
There are so many options, and only so much time. The diversity of the different sailing areas in Greece makes picking just one difficult, which is why so many of our guests come back to sail again and again . There is always another beautiful island to visit and another idyllic beach to swim on!
Peak sailing season is from late June through August with hot weather, warm seas and busy islands. Availability can become limited during this period so booking early is essential.
Late spring from May to June and late summer from September to early October are often considered the best time to sail for experienced sailors and repeat visitors to our country. The weather is great and the islands are more relaxed than the busy summer months.
For those who want to live the real Greek way of life, April and October can be rewarding, with less heat, fewer visitors and enticing low-season offers . A few of the restaurants and shops on some islands may not have opened or may have closed for the season, but in our opinion early and late season sailing in Greece is a magical and unique experience .
The Argo Saronic Gulf is actually two gulfs (the Saronic and Argolic ) that are often referred to together in sailing terms given their close distances to each other. The Saronic Gulf lies in between Athens and the coast of the Argolid Peninsula while the Argolic Gulf is one hop over in between the peninsula and the first large leg of the Eastern Peloponnese , which runs all the way south to Monemvasia.
We often recommend this area to first time sailors for a number of practical reasons. First and foremost, it is the easiest area to reach from Athens , which makes it an ideal spot for those arriving via the Athens International Airport. Within a few hours of touching down you can be swimming and relaxing on board having reached your first destination.
Another advantage is that the area is well protected from the annual Meltemi winds that can blow strongly in July and August and may create challenging conditions for less experienced sailors.
The Argo Saronic Gulf also has plenty of places to visit on either a one or two-week holiday. One-week holidays will usually take in the nearby islands of Aigina and Poros before looping down to the coastal town of Ermioni and the cosmopolitan islands of Spetses and Hydra further south. A visit to Epidavros for a quick trip to its famous ancient theatre is not to be missed for the history buffs.
Two week holidays allow you to explore further east, with the coastal towns of Nafpleio, Leonidio and Kyparissi offering relaxed mooring while cruising the coast of the Eastern Peloponnese.

Ah, the Cyclades. A name steeped in history that brings the classic image of a Greek island to everyone’s mind. While Greece has many island chains and all of them are unique and magical, the Cyclades has become nearly synonymous with the county as a whole for many visitors.
Characterised by their white houses, rugged landscapes and world famous beaches , the Cyclades attract visitors from around the world and are a must see for everyone at some point in their life. For sailors the area offers a huge variety of routes and islands to visit, from the world famous islands Mykonos and Santorini to the popular Paros and Naxos and many, many more in between.
A note about the Meltemi winds that blow from the north in July and August. In the Cyclades these winds can make for challenging conditions and sailing the area during these times is best for experienced sailors. Don’t despair all you beginner sailors! If you want a helping hand our skippers are the best in Greece and will be happy to take care of the sailing and navigation so you can enjoy the islands worry free.
The Cyclades are reached from our main base in Alimos Marina on the western side of Attica giving quick access to the islands of Kea, Kithnos, Serifos, Sifnos and Milos among others.
Our base in Lavrion is perfect for getting a head start to the islands of Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros and Naxos . The Lavrion base is further south and on the east side of Attica, saving a couple of hours of additional sailing time on your way out. As an added bonus, Lavrion is just half an hour from the Athens International Airport so you can be on your way towards your destination just an hour or two after landing.
Located on the western side of Greece the seven main islands of the Ionian Sea have their own unique charm and character . The Ionian Islands are much greener than most islands in Greece, their location and geography bringing more rainfall during the winter months and allowing trees and shrubs to grow and thrive. The combining of colours between the green of the hills , the white of the sands and the blue of the sea are a special treat for visitors to this area.
Istion maintains three bases in the Ionian, on Corfu in the north and in Lefkas (or Lefkada) and nearby Preveza further south.
Itineraries starting from Corfu may include multiple stops along the Corfu coast, visits to the islands of Paxos and Antipaxos and visits to mainland ports including Parga and Syvota .
Trips starting from Lefkas or Preveza may head either north towards Corfu or South towards the islands of Kalamos and Kastos and then on to the mythical island of Ithaca and nearby Kefalonia . Note that our base in Preveza is just 10 minutes from the Aktion Airport where all charter flights to Lefkas arrive. If your flight times are tight, Preveza is a great option .
We recommend downloading our sample sailing itineraries for trips leaving from Corfu and from Lefkas or Preveza . If you need more recommendations for a truly unique voyage through to the Ionian just contact us , we will be happy to help.
The Dodecanese islands in the southeast Aegean are close to our heart. The central island of Kos is where Istion Yachting first started operations in 1992 .
The Dodecanese are known for their wonderful beaches and rich history ranging from the ancient to the medieval to the modern in a delightful kaleidoscope of sights and sounds . The area has relatively mild wind conditions that are perfect for sailing throughout the year and has plenty of sun and warmth during the summer months.
Istion now has two bases in the Dodecanese, our home base on Kos and another on the historic island of Rhodes . From Kos you may head north towards the islands of Kalimos, Leros and Patmos and if time permits all the way to amazing Ithaki and Fourni .
Heading south from Kos will put you on course to visit the islands north of Rhodes including Nisiros, Tilos and Symi . Setting sail from Rhodes itself also reaches these islands or you can choose to head west, exploring the coast of Rhodes and visiting the quaint island of Chalki and the beautiful islands of Karpathos and Kasos .
Charter flights from most European countries fly direct to both Kos and Rhodes making them a great starting point for your next Aegean adventure !
The Sporades are the hidden gem on the Greek sailing map . Nestled off the eastern coast of central Greece the main islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros are a beautiful combination of green mountains, sandy and pebble beaches and deep blue seas. Nature plays a staring role here, with the National Marine Park at Alonissos being a significant refuge for the Monachus Monachus or Mediterranean seal .
Sailing conditions in the Sporades are relatively mild, although winds can shift between the day and night requiring some care when mooring. Distances between islands are short allowing a lot of fun to be packed into a week long charter .
We have two charter bases servicing the Sporades, a base on the island of Skiathos where most European charter flights arrive and another on the mainland city of Volos . Volos is a convenient starting spot for guests arriving by road with their own vehicle and allows exploring of the lovely coastline of the Pagasetic Gulf and Pelion on your way out to the islands – highly recommended !
Bareboat Charters
Tailored for the seasoned sailor, bareboat charters hand the helm over to you, allowing complete freedom to navigate the Greek seas at your own pace . Your sailing party must have at least one licensed skipper and one experienced crew member at a minimum to be able to rent our yachts as bareboats.
If you have some sailing experience but do not hold a valid license then a bareboat charter is not (yet) for you and your best option is a skippered charter where our friendly captains will give you a helping hand. If you are an experienced sailor and have no concerns about the challenges of wind conditions, navigation and docking then we invite you to read more about our bareboat charters here and contact us with any questions you may have.
Skippered Charters
Our skippered charters are the perfect blend of guidance and freedom, designed for those who have some sailing experience, are eager to learn or just want to relax and let a professional do the hard work . With an Istion skipper at your side, you can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with their expert navigation and docking skills while still playing an active role in your sailing adventure.
It's an educational and exhilarating experience where you can hone your sailing skills, participate in manoeuvring the yacht, and even take the helm under the watchful eye of your skipper. It is an amazing experience for everyone and kids in particular have a great time learning about sailing and playing little captain for a week.
Our skippered charters always start off with a briefing between you and your skipper so you can learn about the area you are going to sail and the islands you may want to visit. Our skippers know the Greek seas inside out and based on your preferences they will suggest recommended itineraries to follow, which islands to visit and what hidden beaches to swim at.
If you are planning your first sailing holiday in Greece , you are in the very best hands with Istion's professional skippers by your side. Read more about our skippered charters here , or just get in touch to start planning your perfect sailing holiday in Greece.

Sailing Yachts
Sailing yachts are perfect for those who love the classic feeling of sailing. Designed to be easy to handle, they smoothly glide through the water and let you enjoy the natural beauty of the Greek seas. They're a bit slower than other boats, and they lean to one side when the wind blows, which is all part of the classic sailing adventure. Their charming appearance and comfortable ride make them ideal for those who want to experience traditional sailing in a relaxed and eco-friendly way.
Sailing yachts are also the most budget friendly option for a sailing holiday in Greece. Our smaller yachts with three cabins and space for up to six guests (or eight if two sleep in the main cabin) can be rented for as little as roughly 1200 Euros a week in the low season. Costs for larger yachts with up to 6 cabins and space for up to 12 guests rise to approximately 10.000 Euros a week in the high season.
At Istion, we proudly offer a wide selection of the latest models as well as impeccably maintained older sailing yachts from Jeanneau, Beneteau, Bavaria, Sun Odyssey, Hanse and other top shipyards. Whether you're planning a cozy trip for a small group or a grand sailing adventure for a larger party, we have the right yacht to suit your needs.
Catamarans are the choice for those who want lots of space and a stable, comfortable trip. With their two-hull design, they don't rock as much as sailing yachts, which is great if you're new to sailing or easily feel seasick. You can also get closer to the beach with a catamaran, as they don't sit very deep in the water. Catamarans offer a smooth and spacious experience, making for a relaxing and comfortable sailing holiday and are a very popular choice for first time sailors in Greece.
For families and larger groups, the bigger cabins and more room to move around on a catamaran make them a good fit for your holiday. The double hull layout means two families can easily sail together while each having their own 'private space' on either side of the main deck. Catamarans also tend to have one washroom per cabin, a feature all parents with teenage kids appreciate.
The comfort and space offered in a catamaran puts them in a higher budget bracket than our monohull sailing yachts. Our smallest catamarans with four cabins and room for up to 10 guests start at roughly 2100 Euros per week in low season. Our top of the line models can range up to 16.000 Euros plus in the middle of the high season.
We are proud to have one of the largest fleets of catamarans in Greece with brand new models from Lagoon, Bali and Fountaine Pajot among others. We invite you to browse all our catamarans and contact us for any guidance you need to help make your sailing adventure in Greece perfect in every way.
Motor Yachts
Motor yachts are all about luxury and speed. They have multiple levels with lots of space, including big bedrooms and expansive living areas. These boats move quickly, powered by strong engines, so they're great if you want to explore a lot of places fast and make an impressive entrance wherever you go.
Our motor yachts are all modern, with plush interiors and all the latest features for entertainment and entertaining. However, they do use more fuel and require a professional captain and crew, so there's a higher cost for this kind of luxury and speed. If you're looking for a high-end and fast-paced trip with all the modern comforts, motor yachts are the way to go .
