The 56.4m (185.1ft)  MONDANGO 3 is a ketch-rigged, world-girdling sailing yacht commissioned by an experienced and knowledgeable owner who wanted a refined version of his previous yacht, building in thousands of miles of blue water sailing experience to create the ultimate luxury cruiser.

Once again the expertise of Alloy Yachts of West Auckland, New Zealand, was selected to construct the yacht, Dubois Naval Architects undertook the exterior design and engineering and Reymond Langton was at its spectacularly creative best when designing the uniquely characterful interior.

Her 60sqm flybridge has a lounge area with removable biminis aft of the helm stations and sun loungers aft around the mizzen mast.

Her main deck has a large flush foredeck with hatches beneath which her two tenders are stowed.

There is a deck jacuzzi in the aft deck and the transom folds down hydraulically to create a swimming platform, adjacent to her telescopic passerelle.

A huge cockpit lounge and dining area with exceptional wraparound views has sliding glass screens that can close off the space for full climate control.

Sliding glass doors open onto a saloon area with excellent views through large picture windows.

Blinds lower to create an indoor cinema with a 103in TV built into a leather-clad divider forward, which separates the lounge from the formal dining area.

A wonderfully sculpted staircase just inside the sliding glass doors leads down to the full beam owner's suite with a green marble bathroom to port.

A passage with curved and decorated bulkheads leads aft to two double cabins to port and two twins to starboard, completing versatile accommodation for 10 guests. She is also home to up to 10 crew.

As you might expect of a yacht commissioned by an owner with so much blue water experience, her easily driven hull form was designed by Dubois primarily for comfort underway but she also delivers thrilling performance. To windward a centreboard keeps her tracking well and it lifts to reduce her draft to just 4m (13.1ft), opening up lagoons, anchorages and harbours closed to large fixed-keel yachts.

MONDANGO 3 comes to market following her five-year Lloyd's survey during which main and mizzen were unstepped so that spars, furling booms and standing rigging could be serviced and inspected. During the works the hull received a full repaint and the yacht a full refit and refurbishment.  She has new 3Di main and mizzen sails arriving shortly from the North Sails loft.

Established in the early 1980s, the 100% New Zealand owned Alloy Yachts is a builder of high-quality sailing and motor yachts driven by a quest for excellence.

Mondango 3 measures 56.40 feet in length, with a max draft of 11.00 feet and a beam of 11.00 feet.

Mondango 3 has an aluminium hull with an aluminium superstructure.

The magnificent sailing yacht Mondango 3 is a beautiful cruising ketch built by Alloy Yachts in collaboration with Dubois Naval architects and Reymond Langton. At an impressive 56.4 meters in length, it is a sleek and elegant vessel  designed for experienced sailors and is especially suited for long journeys.

Owners and guests will definitely enjoy the ship’s extensive exterior spaces, with an aft deck spa pool, extensive seating, and a dining table with enough for up to 10 people. The helm station is located on the flybridge, which allows for great visibility while also freeing up the cockpit for an additional dining space and seating area.

No expense was spared on the interior, which is wll furnished, elegant, and airy. Owners have at their disposal a central full beam suite accessed by an impressive lobby, while guests can be accommodated in two VIP double cabins and two twin cabins.

Alloy Yachts’ 56m Superyacht Mondango 3

Alloy Yachts was founded in 1985, which makes the company look young compared to some European shipyards that have been operating for well over 100 years. Mondango 3, however, shows that Alloy Yachts has the ingenuity and experience to build some of the world's most impressive sailing yachts.

Mondango 3 is a refined, updated yacht for the owner of Mondango 2. The owner's sailing experience helped inform the design process, resulting in a vessel that can travel the world in luxury. When it comes to aesthetics and performance, few yachts compare with this unique ketch.

The Mondango 3 Interior Design

Alloy Yachts partnered with Reymond Langton Design to create a stunning, yet extremely comfortable, interior for Mondango 3. Her look partially relies on bleached oak and palm wood inlays. The light-colored wood contrasts beautifully with the dark leather furniture found throughout the yacht.

Mondango 3 has a master suite for the owner; two double cabins; and two twin cabins.

Reymond Langton Design worked tirelessly to make sure each guest suite has its own identity. Bright colors make the suites both playful and relaxing. Of course, the master suite stands out as one of the yacht's most opulent rooms. The master suite features unique characteristics such as arced, overlapping wall panels that house creative recessed lighting.

With so many lovely rooms, it's difficult to pinpoint the yacht's best area. The main saloon has artwork made of carved leather and a balustrade with exceptional stitching. This stitching shows how much attention Mondango 3's builders put into the details.

Glass art panels decorate the saloon and lobbies, making them attractive places for guests to interact or relax.

The yacht's formal dining room has plenty of seating for up to 10 guests. It features overhead recessed lighting that emphasizes the rooms artwork and dark wood divider that separates it from other areas of the boat.

An expertly crafted stairwell gives guests access to various decks while adding to the yacht's artistic feel. Every detail says something special about the boat, the care that went into its design, and the experiences that guests will have while staying aboard Mondango 3.

No matter where guests go onboard, they will find interesting naval architecture and impressive works of art that coordinate with the interior styling created by Reymond Langton Design.

Enjoying Life on the Mondango 3's Outside Decks

Mondango 3's beautiful design flows easily to outdoor areas. The flybridge is a particular attractive area with comfortable places to sit and a Jacuzzi that offers the ultimate in relaxation. The flybridge is also a great place for the owner and his guests to take in the ocean view. As they travel the world, they will experience many sites that few people get to experience.

A cockpit breakfast area gives the owner and his guests the perfect place to start their days. The breakfast table sits outdoors, but it has overhead protection that allows use on rainy or exceptionally sunny days.

Designers paid special attention to the outdoor decks to make sure they took advantage of every inch of space. This makes the decks excellent locations for small gatherings or larger parties. It also makes them irresistible to anyone who enjoys a relaxing day while rocked by the ocean's gentle waves.

Sails and Rigs for a World Traveling Ketch

Dubois Naval Architects worked closely with Alloy Yachts to build an impressive two-sail yacht that can travel in shallow waters as well as the world's deepest oceans. Mondango 3's sails were made by North Sails. Her mast and rig come from Southern Spars. These are two of the top companies making hardware for sailing yachts like Mondango 3. Including them ensures that the owner and his guests can travel safely in all types of weather.

A swing keel centerboard makes it easier for Mondango 3 to pass through shallow waters, including anchorages that 56-meter yachts often cannot access.

In days when there isn't enough wind to fill Mondango's sails, she can rely on a 1,450-horsepower Caterpillar engine that lets her travel at a 12-knot cruising speed.

Having Fun on Mondango 3

Sailing the world should be fun. Alloy Yachts and its partners recognize this, so they've included numerous items that guests can enjoy in the water.

Mondango 3 comes with a long list of water toys, including two paddle boards, water skis, and two different types of kayaks. An island raft with head rest and bimini let guests relax in the ocean water. A 7 by 5 meter net keeps jellyfish away from the recreational area, making it safe for swimmers of all ages.

Guests who enjoy snorkeling and fishing have access to plenty of equipment.

Those who want to explore nearby islands, coves, and docks can use one of the tenders stowed under the foredeck. Keeping them under the foredeck expands the yacht's useable space without restricting adventure.

How the 56m Mondango 3 was built to be anything but ordinary

After chartering, building and selling a small fleet of yachts, a sailing-enthusiast couple decided to build something new. They knew what they wanted, and that was a fast and stable yacht capable of cruising the world – a yacht that came to life in 2014 under the name Mondango 3 . Having travelled across the globe and experienced the blissful life at sea that comes with sailing, the commissioning owners are now ready to pass on the 56.4-metre Mondango 3 with the help of the leading brokerage house Burgess .

The vessel and her original design by Dubois Naval Architects and Reymond Langton have been kept in perfect condition after her owners invested extensively in a maintenance program that included a Lloyd’s five-year survey, a full service and a hull repaint in May 2019. Already well acquainted with Dubois Naval Architects and builders Alloy Yachts, the owners built a well-kept home at sea with many standout features that not only ensure consistently perfect performance, but provide her guests with the luxury and comfort expected of a first-class superyacht. And here are just some of the ways Mondango 3 ’s owners built her to tick all of the boxes:

Climate-controlled cockpit

A feature that makes Mondango 3 stand out is her Jacuzzi. Rarely seen on a sailing yacht, the Jacuzzi sits flush with the deck to the aft of the yacht to form part of the yacht’s large cockpit. The rest of the space features a large and classy dining table for up to 10 guests to gather and enjoy many alfresco meals, plus there is additional seating areas port, starboard and aft. This spot can be made even more comfortable once the electronically operated glass panels are activated, creating an enclosed winter garden for dining underway or staying warm outdoors long into the night. There is also plenty of room for sunpads and sun loungers in and around the twin helm stations and the foredeck.

Ultra-unique style

Reymond Langton’s design encompasses a variety of curves, textures, contrasts and detailing throughout the interior. The designers created guest spaces with angled windows, circular skylights and linear wall panelling structured with curved sections. The main saloon is dominated by soft grey sofas and armchairs in an intimate and cosy arrangement. Separated by a floor-to-ceiling carved leather 'wall' hiding a television, the adjoining formal dining area is met by a beautifully designed staircase that leads down to a long hallway where the flowing curve design continues.

Well-appointed staterooms

Up to 11 guests can sleep on board across five beautiful staterooms. The contemporary design of the cabins follows the same characteristics of the rest of the interiors – with earthy tones and shapely decorative walls – and are all adjoined by a pale cream marble en-suite bathroom. The master suite makes use of the yacht’s full 11-metre beam and is situated amidships for comfort. Elsewhere on board, a VIP suite, a queen cabin and two twins (one with an additional Pullman) can be found, each with their own version of the yacht’s standout interior style. The eclectic style of the design and well-thought-out layout was made to utilise the deceptively spacious internal volume of 499 GT.

Top-of-the-range kit

Starting below deck, Mondango 3 has a useful 4-metre berth for entry into shallow harbours and anchorages. Moving up, the deck spaces include the 60-square-metre flybridge and hatches on the foredeck that house the yacht’s two tenders: a 7-metre custom Smuggler and a 5.4-metre Smuggler Strat RIB. Here there is also room to store toys such as wakeboards, paddleboards, waterskis, fishing gear and kayaks for those guests wanting to spend their days being adventurous and exploring away from the mothership. For this purpose, the fold-down swim platform and a shell-door boarding platform were added to make getting in and out of the water easy for any guest.

Protruding out from the decks are the Southern Spars carbon fibre masts, in-boom furling and Nitronic rod rigging that was serviced in 2019. And finally, from the very top hang the perfectly white sails by North. Supported by a single 1,450hp Caterpillar diesel engine with a top speed of 14 knots, Mondango 3 is proven to offer both performance and comfort.

There is a deck jacuzzi in the aft deck and the transom folds down hydraulically to create a swimming platform, adjacent to her telescopic passerelle.

A huge cockpit lounge and dining area with exceptional wraparound views has sliding glass screens that can close off the space for full climate control.

Sliding glass doors open onto a saloon area with excellent views through large picture windows.

Blinds lower to create an indoor cinema with a 103in TV built into a leather-clad divider forward, which separates the lounge from the formal dining area.

A wonderfully sculpted staircase just inside the sliding glass doors leads down to the full beam owner's suite with a green marble bathroom to port.

A passage with curved and decorated bulkheads leads aft to two double cabins to port and two twins to starboard, completing versatile accommodation for 10 guests. She is also home to up to 10 crew.

As you might expect of a yacht commissioned by an owner with so much blue water experience, her easily driven hull form was designed by Dubois primarily for comfort underway but she also delivers thrilling performance. To windward a centreboard keeps her tracking well and it lifts to reduce her draft to just 4m (13.1ft), opening up lagoons, anchorages and harbours closed to large fixed-keel yachts.

MONDANGO 3 comes to market following her five-year Lloyd's survey during which main and mizzen were unstepped so that spars, furling booms and standing rigging could be serviced and inspected. During the works the hull received a full repaint and the yacht a full refit and refurbishment.  She has new 3Di main and mizzen sails arriving shortly from the North Sails loft.

Brief History

(ALPHA PAPA LEADING BOAT OFF STARBOARD ON THE COAST OF SAN PEDRO, CALIFORNIA IN 2008)

The Tripp 33 was designed by the eminent naval architect Bill Tripp III as an IMS offshore racer.   It derives considerable stability from a deep, bulb keel.   The present boat won the Southern Ocean Racing Circuit PHRF IV Division in 1993, where it bested the present owner, Al Holt, who placed third in the division sailing the chartered Soverel 33 “Runaway.”   Al purchased “Alpha Papa” from Gordon Leon, who campaigned the boat offshore in Southern California and placed fifth in the Coastal Cup race from San Francisco to Santa Barbara.   The coincidence of having sailed against her was not involved in the purchase decision, but was discovered some time afterward.   Division results for this year in the Chesapeake Bay include first in the Sailing Club of the Chesapeake/Gibson Island Yacht Squadron Spring Distance Race, first in the Tred Avon YC Hammond Memorial Race, second in the Coast Guard Cup overnight race, and fourth in the St. Mary’s College Governor’s Cup.   “Alpha Papa” is sailed as a modified Tripp 33, with the addition of a 3.9’ centerline fixed bowsprit and asymmetrical spinnakers.

The 2014 launched 56m/184’ sailing yacht MONDANGO 3 has confirmed her availability for summer 2014 charter vacations in the breath taking cruising grounds of the South Pacific.

After being delivered to her Owner’s earlier this year and joining her sibling – the 51m/167’ superyacht MONDANGO , MONDANGO 3 has quickly become a highly-regarded addition to the charter market. Built by Alloy Yachts to a design by Dubois Naval Architects, she has been constructed for fast performance sailing in very luxurious surroundings.

Her Reymond Langton designed interior embodies modern elegance with spacious, light living areas styled with a colour palette of neutral tones highlighted with bright colours, patterns and varied textures. She accommodates up to 11 guests in five generous staterooms comprising a full-beam master suite, large VIP cabin, two doubles and two twins with one Pullman berth.

Perfect for blue-water sailing and exploration in far flung destinations such as French Polynesia and Papua New Guinea.

Sailing Yacht MONDANGO 3 boasts a number of special design features inside and out that create comfortable, well-appointed areas for the ultimate in guest comfort. In addition to a sumptuous seating area and beautiful dining room, her main deck plays host to an impressive floor-to-ceiling carved leather wall with integrated 103” television that acts both as a divider and a home cinema. Outside are selection of seating and sunbathing options as well as a generous aft deck spa pool and glass panel-protected cockpit. Perfect for blue-water sailing and exploration in far flung destinations such as French Polynesia  , Tahiti  and Papua New Guinea , she also offers an armada of water toys to include kayaks, wake boards and inflatables.
