Tesla Unveils Self-Sustaining Electric Yacht

Tesla just unveiled the design for its self-sustaining, all-electric Model Y yacht, and it represents just about everything you’d expect from the extremely creative and game-changing company. After all, Tesla has already made head-turning inroads in the automotive market and in outer space, so it seems reasonable that it might venture into the marine sphere with something new as well. (See the video below.)

Elon Musk started making Tesla electric cars in 2008. This week, Tesla’s market cap is $663.85 billion, equal to that of the nine largest car companies in the world – combined. He founded SpaceX in 2002; it became the first private company to send humans into orbit last year, and it launched 143 satellites on a single mission in January – the most ever.

Tesla is not for the faint of heart. And the 131-foot Tesla yacht, called Model Y, seems to fit into the family pattern. It has a Tesla color scheme, for one thing. Then there’s the low, flowing design that sets it apart and is somewhat reminiscent of a spaceship sitting in the water.

For power, the Tesla yacht does not have to pull up to a fuel dock, or even plug into an electric circuit somewhere. The yacht is meant to be fully self-charging; it generates its own power, relying on a hydro-electric system. A turbine on the bottom of the hull charges the batteries that run the yacht. And solar panels on the top charge the batteries when the yacht is not moving.

The yacht has only two decks, with a creative aft cockpit – Tesla’s take on the current beach club trend – that can be opened wide for sunbathing, hopping into the Jacuzzi or enjoying water sports. When the weather turns, you just push a button and a massive shutter comes down to seal it off.

The lower deck is a large social area, with round tables in the center. Push a button and four chairs emerge from the table sides. Private rooms are forward on that deck; one can be a spa; others can be bedrooms. The helm also is on the lower deck.

The upper deck features a “glass room” with glass walls for 360-degree views. It has a sunken bar under foot, and tiny holes in the ceiling to look at the stars. See the video here:

Tesla has been doing great in the automotive industry, and their new move could be in a new direction - superyachts. Elon Musk, the CEO and founder of Tesla, has been offering the world a futurism pathway . Some of his  projects include the Hyperloop , the Boring Company, SpaceX, Neuralink, and of course, the newest car models being produced one after the other by Tesla.

Reports indicate that when Musk started thinking about making a superyacht, he planned to launch a new company with a new name solely for yachts. However, as of now, this new creation is going to be established by Tesla itself. The model's name might come across as confusing as there is already a car model with the term 'Y.' The speculation is that Y stands for a yacht.

The upcoming creation is indeed a marvel to behold. Tesla keeps continuing in the journey to a technological revolution once again. Musk has come up with something that might have seemed impractical as a concept. Tesla's self-charging model Y yacht is the first electric model of its kind, and it comes with a host of attractive features.

The self-charging Tesla Model Y is the brainchild of Indian designer Dhruv Prasad . Reports suggest that Prasad had designed this beauty back in 2017, and ever since then, the Tesla company has been attempting to execute it.

Tesla's exclusive model of a superyacht is designed to resemble a squid-like form. Its sleek design ensures a bulk-free and fast-moving vehicle. The hull of this ship is about 131 feet or 40 meters long. The shape is that of a giant squid because it is narrow at the tip and broad at the rear. There is no physical wheel made of hardwood as it is all remote-controlled.

The superstructure of this yacht is like most other vessels. It covers the top deck while creating interior space for the deck below. However, this yacht's striking feature is a small deck at the back for sunbathing or enjoying the sea. The small and private deck is directly connected to the lower deck. The private deck at the end is also a perfect launching ground for small boats and water transports.

Tesla's Model Y yacht comes with two decks, one on the top of the superstructure and one below. There is no provision to build more decks because the superstructure's surface, which forms the ceiling to the lower deck, has circular holes for daylight to lighten up this space. At night or in the absence of sunlight, LED lights will lighten up the lower deck space. The floors of the decks are made of hardwood.

There might be only three decks on this yacht if one considers the small deck at the back to be a separate one. However, the space on this vessel is not less. The interiors of the lower deck are massive in size. This yacht is more suited for throwing parties than for an extended stay, and the interior spaces are large enough to organize nightlife activities. There are bars and lounges for the guests to be comfortable and amuse themselves.

The marvelous circular tables in the lower deck's central region appear to have no seats. A creation by Elon Musk's team is bound to a few tricks. With a remote control system, the tables can go in circular motions to open up into seats. The upper deck is also quite spacious and open. There are glass rooms with beds, and these private areas have spa and massaging rooms as well. The captain might get their private bedroom as speculations suggest.

Last but not least is the Model Y's self-charging mechanism, which makes it stand out amongst luxury superyachts. The concept is to make this ship function on hydroelectricity and solar power.

The plan uses the turbine bearing the Tesla icon to charge the engines with the hydroelectric power produced by the ocean currents. This will keep the yacht charged as long as it is on the ocean waters. However, there is also solar energy which should work as a backup. The solar panels have been installed on the superstructure to absorb energy from the sun easily.

When the yacht is not moving, and there is no hydroelectricity generation, the ship can function upon solar energy. However, if you plan to set out on a cloudy day, that should not be a problem because the primary source of electricity for this vessel is the hydropower produced by its turbine.

Musk and his team have not revealed the cost of this yacht yet. However, it can be expected that this beast will come at a fancy price. With features like these, it can't help but feel like it will be worth it.

Neuralink, the brain chip company founded by Elon Musk, announced the approval Tuesday. The FDA program is for medical devices that offer more effective treatment or diagnosis of life-threatening or irreversibly debilitating diseases or conditions. 

The designation aims to give patients and health care providers timely access to devices by speeding up development and the review process, although the FDA stresses the products must still meet its rigorous safety and effectiveness standards.

According to Musk , the device, called “Blindsight,” will allow people who have lost both eyes and their optic nerve to see as long as the visual cortex — the part of the brain that receives and processes visual information relayed from the eyes— is intact. 

The device uses a chip that processes and transmits neural signals that could be transmitted to devices such as a computer or phone, Reuters reported .

Musk said, to set expectations correctly, vision to study participants will be introduced at a low resolution “like Atari graphics.”

But, he added, “eventually it has the potential be better than natural vision and enable you to see in infrared, ultraviolet or even radar wavelengths, like Geordi La Forge,” a reference to the “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” played by LeVar Burton, who was born blind but uses technological devices to see.

Neuralink is also testing a brain implant designed to give paralyzed people the ability to control digital devices with their brains. 

The company announced last month a second participant has had the chip surgically implanted. He has since been playing video games and learning how to use computer-aided design software to create 3D objects, Neuralink said .

• The captain told Teslarati that Starlink was a game-changer, but didn't work when crossing the Atlantic.

Starlink, SpaceX's satellite internet, is now up and running on an Instagram-famous $30 million superyacht based in the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

Teslarati first reported the news. The captain and a spokesperson for the yacht confirmed the news to Insider.

Motor yacht Loon, billed as the world's most Instagrammed superyacht with "seven star" service, switched to Starlink when the maritime version of the service was released in early July, Captain Paul Clarke told Insider.

Musk responded to the Teslarati article on Twitter, saying "cool." The billionaire is the founder of SpaceX, which owns Starlink. The company has more than 2,900 satellites currently in orbit, launched by SpaceX's Falcon 9 rockets.

Starlink Maritime on Loon costs $5,000 a month for consistent speeds, ranging from 150 Megabits per second to 200 Megabits per second, Clarke said. This is a drop in price from the yacht's previous internet service, Viasat, which charged $10,000 a month for speeds of 50 to 80 Megabits per second, Clarke added.

"We've thrown everything we can at it, and it hasn't missed a beat," Clarke told Insider.

Clarke told Teslarati that Starlink was a "total game-changer" because every television on the 180-foot yacht is now able to stream in high-definition.

When Loon crossed the Atlantic Ocean, Starlink didn't work, Clarke told Teslarati. He reached out to Starlink's support team, who told him the service is expected to work in that area towards the end of the year, Clarke said in the interview.

Clarke plans to test Starlink when Loon crosses the Atlantic again in May next year, he told Teslarati.

A spokesperson for Loon told Insider the crew onboard the yacht have experienced good internet connection thanks to Starlink, saying their experience was "really positive."

The spokesperson added that Starlink has enabled the yacht's onboard videographer to share content "much more efficiently."

Loon has more than 62,000 followers on Instagram , where it posts scenic pictures of the yacht, crew, food onboard, and activities available during a charter. Clarke told Teslarati the yacht was worth $30 million. Loon can accommodate 12 guests and 14 crew and has an infinity pool, jacuzzi, and open-air bar, according to its website .

As Starlink expands its network, users across the world are reporting the different ways they are deploying Starlink. One user told Insider last week that he took Starlink on a week's sailing vacation to Greece and said the service was "surprisingly good."

Jeff Bezos and his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez have been spotted relaxing on the Amazon founder’s new superyacht, which is reportedly worth almost $500m.

The 59-year-old billionaire was photographed aboard the 417-foot-long vessel as it set sail along the coast of Spain on Monday, 15 May.

The couple’s maiden voyage comes nearly five years after the vessel was first commissioned in 2018 for half a billion dollars. The yacht – named the Koru after the Maori word for “new beginnings” – comes complete with three decks and a pool.

In photos obtained by the Daily Mail , Bezos was seen shirtless on the megayacht’s sundeck, while Sanchez was dressed in a pink bikini and white cover-up as the pair enjoyed the sunshine.

Bezos reportedly arrived to his yacht via helicopter, making use of the vessel’s helipad, after being flown to Mallorca on a private jet.

The 250-foot tall boat even came equipped with a figurehead that bore a striking resemblance to Bezo’s 53-year-old girlfriend. The polished wooden sculpture, which sits at the prow of the yacht, depicts a woman carved in the style of a Roman goddess, complete with long hair and a flowing gown.

Koru, previously known as Y721, is the tallest sailing yacht in the world with three masts measuring more than 230 feet, according to Boat International . It reportedly cost Bezos $485m.

The boat’s exterior has a classic design of a black hull with a white superstructure. Although the brand-new vessel doesn’t come with a helipad, the Amazon founder reportedly purchased a support yacht, worth $75m specifically to land his helicopter.

The Koru was constructed by Dutch yacht maker Oceano near Rotterdam in the Netherlands. It caused quite a scandal in February 2022 when the vessel nearly required the historic Koningshaven Bridge to be dismantled because its masts were too tall to pass under the bridge.

Indeed, the vessel is officially the tallest yacht in the world, standing at more than 230ft (70m), and is the length of four blue whales at 416ft (127m) - one of just four yachst in the world to boast a length of greater than 100m.

When Oceanco requested the city of Rotterdam dismantle the 100-year-old bridge – known to locals as “De Hef” – outraged citizens planned to throw rotten eggs at the superyacht. The yacht maker rescinded its request and ultimately hauled the 417-foot vessel to a separate shipyard to install the masts.

The clever design of the three masts, which see the yacht powered by kinetic energy, mean Bezos does not need an entire crew to staff the vessel - instead the Koru can be manned by one person (although no doubt the billionaire will have staff on hand for more of his voyages).

Guests visiting Bezos aboard his new superyacht are able to arrive via helicopter thanks to the vessel’s helipad, while other transport on board includes a fleet of cars, jetskis and smaller speedboats.

The yacht reportedly costs $25m a year to maintain, according to Page Six , but Bezos has more than enough money to cover the maintenance – his net worth is an estimated $141bn.

Starlink: The lowdown on Elon Musk's satellite internet system

Starlink Maritime is rewriting the rulebook when it comes to connectivity at sea – but how does it compare?

It’s not just Tom Cruise who feels the need for speed. For guests and crew alike, fast, ubiquitous internet access at sea is now seen as a must-have provision. Everyone wants to surf on the surf.

“Connectivity is no longer regarded as a luxury,” says Nick Maynard, marketing director for communications company OneWeb. “It’s now right up there with reasons why a superyacht might not go to sea, such is the expectation from principals.”

This rise in demand goes way beyond Netflix and TikTok users on board. From audiovisual systems to artificial intelligence, fast, reliable data connections have become de rigueur and in demand – and there’s a revolution afoot.

The transformative technology everyone’s talking about is Elon Musk’s Starlink Maritime. A SpaceX offshoot, Starlink currently comprises a constellation of 3,300 low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites circling the planet at an altitude of 550 kilometres, give or take. In time, this is expected to increase to 12,000 satellites. It’s a radically different approach to the traditional VSAT system yacht owners will be familiar with: geostationary (GEO) networks that rely on satellites parked at some 36,000 kilometres and MEO (medium-earth orbit) satellites hovering around 20,000 kilometres.

The system is exciting to those in the connectivity business because LEO satellites can outperform GEO and MEO satellites by offering faster internet speeds. They’re also far cheaper to make and deploy, mainly due to their size. GEO satellites are physically bigger (around the size of a large van) and can only be launched one at a time, whereas Starlink’s LEO satellites weigh just 260 kilograms and 64 can be launched at once.

Why the need for so many? Simply put, fewer GEO and MEO satellites are required for coverage as they see so much more of the planet, given their distance from earth, whereas LEO satellites only see a fraction of the planet at any one time. GEO satellite coverage is planetary (barring the poles) but latency – the delay in data transmission – is high; LEO satellites can deliver much quicker speeds, but lots of them are needed to guarantee coverage. Imagine a torch shining on a globe – move it in and the beam gets tighter and brighter; move it out and it gets broader and dimmer.

Currently providing internet service to around 40 countries, Starlink is proving to be quite the disruptor. Compared to more conventional satcom systems, it also promises lower running costs and simpler installation, as there’s no requirement for a satellite dome. Instead, a flat antenna can be unobtrusively accommodated on deck. The only requirement is a clear line of sight with the sky overhead.

Starlink’s antennas can be flat because LEO satellites fly so low; the “look angle” of the receiver, therefore, is always close to vertical, so it doesn’t need a wide range of movement. The panels can also be smaller, given the strength of the signal. At the time of writing, Starlink was not yet offering global coverage, with internet provision restricted to the Mediterranean and coastal areas of the US, Europe and parts of South America and Australia. The company is expecting to achieve global coverage by around March this year.

One of the first yachts to install Starlink Maritime was the 54.9-metre Loon . Captain Paul Clarke reports the installation was easier than previous VSAT systems. “Almost six months after installing Starlink, we’re still in love with it,” he tells us. “We were able to turn off our satellite TV dishes and we now stream everything on all the TVs throughout. There’s no need to be locked into expensive, high-maintenance sat TV provider contracts, so it saves us $20,000 (£16,200) a year.”

Starlink Maritime’s pricing is also appealingly straightforward: $10,000 for two flat-panel antennas (only one is needed to provide internet, but two are supplied for redundancy in case of an output failure), and a monthly charge of $5,000 for unlimited data. Resellers, meanwhile, have recently started making the pricing even more attractive; connectivity company Anuvu is now selling single a Starlink Maritime antenna for as little as $2,500.

The upfront cost of the equipment is well below the tens of thousands you’d expect to pay for a sat dome on a superyacht, but the monthly subscription cost is similar or higher – but then again, so are the speeds.

Under optimal conditions, Starlink can offer a maximum upload speed of 40Mbps, and 350Mbps download per installation, which is considerably faster than most home broadband users experience. Of course, it won’t deliver this level of performance consistently in real-world conditions, particularly when coverage is patchy, or when you’re in port, competing for bandwidth.

Clarke notes that the system’s growing popularity does appear to be slowing things down. “We are definitely noticing congestion as more and more people make the change to Starlink,” he says. “We’ve also noticed that when in the same ports as cruise ships, we have a massive reduction in bandwidth. There is nothing official from Starlink about this, but it seems that they get priority.”

Still, Clarke remains enthusiastic. “You’ve got to understand that Starlink is still in its infancy and will continue to grow and get better over time as it launches more satellites.” He’s also a fan of the design: “Starlink dishes are flat, so no more need for the big sat domes. I think we will see some more sleek yachts coming out of the yards in the near future as a result.”

What are the alternatives to Starlink?

Of course, Starlink isn’t the only LEO game in town. Its sole competition – for now – is OneWeb, which has been steadily building up its own network of LEO satellites since 2019, with the aim of offering global coverage during 2023. Amazon, meanwhile, is about to muscle in with Project Kuiper, its proposed constellation of 3,000 LEO satellites. The company’s first prototype satellites will be launched this year.

Further providers are coming, too. If all the proposed constellations make it into space, it would increase the current number of satellites orbiting the earth 40-fold to around 200,000.

OneWeb’s Maynard says that the creation of a global constellation has been “a monumental, even Herculean” challenge for the company. “Each day our team has grappled with some big questions and decisions, for example how to efficiently manage a fleet of spacecraft from down here on earth, devising space-based connectivity service propositions that are relevant and easy to use, preventing orbital debris and cleaning up what’s already up there.”

Each OneWeb satellite is about the size of a washing machine and orbits the earth at 26,000km/h, at an altitude of 1,200 kilometres, which is described by Maynard as the “sweet spot” for delivering high-speed, low-latency connectivity globally.

A key differentiator between OneWeb and Starlink is that OneWeb’s constellation operates further away from earth, with a smaller fleet of satellites that each have a wider beam width. “We’re delivering global coverage with an agile, efficient and responsible fleet of just 648 satellites, far fewer than some other planned constellations,” says Maynard.

While OneWeb won’t be drawn on pricing  (“We are an indirect business, we can’t really comment on pricing as this would be determined by our distribution partners,” says Maynard), the company says it’s more cost-effective than the traditional VSAT hardware.

Using a dual parabolic antenna (more like a traditional satellite dish), yacht owners can expect up to 125Mbps download and 25Mbps upload speeds. OneWeb’s antennas are also smaller than those picking up higher-earth-orbit satellites, so they don’t need so much space on the radar mast.

It is offering a flat-panel version called OW1 for land-based installations, teaming up with Intellian to make it, but a marine version is not yet available, although market watchers don’t expect it to be too long before one is announced. Third-party flat-panel antenna company Kymeta, meanwhile, has been around the yachting scene for some time and offers a flat-panel antenna for superyachts that can integrate with OneWeb’s constellation.

Cardiff-based Excelerate has been in the satcom business for more than 20 years and is a OneWeb partner. “I’ve often said that in a technology business, I spend half my time being totally excited and enthused and half being terrified. Things never stand still, and the pace of change seems to be getting faster,” says David Savage, the group’s executive chairman.

The complexities of LEO are staggering compared to a GEO network, he says, which is why the technology has taken so long to realise and has led to several high-profile failures. The concept of LEO connectivity was first proposed 30 years ago, but the high costs scuppered the first companies through the door, including Iridium, which was forced into bankruptcy.

“LEO satellites are travelling at 25,000km/h, so when a yacht connects to just one it can only ‘see’ it for about 10 minutes and then it’s gone, so during that process, the yacht has to be handed over to the next one and so on and so on. LEO satellites have to work with each other as well as the ground – all at 25,000km/h – and there might be thousands of them, or at least hundreds, depending on which network,” says Savage.

Does this mean the end of satellite domes?

So is the writing on the wall for traditional VSAT linking to high-orbiting satellites? According to the owner of the 38.8-metre sailing yacht Atalante , an early adopter of Starlink Maritime, LEO is a serious contender. He describes Starlink’s tech as “transformational”, adding: “When the Atlantic and Pacific coverages are complete in March 2023 it will be revolutionary.”

Atalante had one of the first Starlink Maritime systems fitted in October 2022. “We have trialled it in port and on the recent transatlantic crossing from Palma to St Martin. In Palma, we would regularly see speeds of 35 to 50Mbps and sometimes even 80 to 90Mbps. There was not a noticeable difference between Palma and on passage to the Canaries.” He says the crew lost Starlink coverage about 430 nautical miles southwest of the Canaries and picked it up again about 175 nautical miles off St Martin.

“Class rules and insurance will mean we have to maintain our FleetBroadband service for safety communication, but if the reliability of the Starlink service continues to be good, I cannot see the point of paying for two parallel services when Starlink appears to be superior.”

As to whether Starlink is the future, Savage is sceptical. “For sure, I am in the ‘how cool is this’ camp, but I am also in the ‘where’s the catch’ camp, too. The Starlink Maritime option has  a lower contention rate, which means that  the service is shared by fewer users than the recreational vehicle or consumer offering, but  as far as I am aware, unlike the current GEO offerings, there is no way to guarantee a minimum level of service.”

Echoing the view of Loon ’s Captain Clarke, Savage adds, “The jury is out on what will happen when a large group of yachts are all trying to use Starlink in a crowded port or bay simultaneously. When it comes to guaranteed connectivity, a yacht needs as many plan Bs as possible. To rely on a single public or private network is courting disaster.”

A number of satcom equipment companies are now starting to offer solutions with as many of these plan Bs integrated as possible – taking advantage of the high speeds of LEO satellites, but with the ability to switch to higher-earth-orbit satellites if required. Whereas Starlink receivers can only see Starlink satellites, these companies have spread their bets.

Launched in January, Intellian’s latest offering, the XEO Series, automatically switches between GEO, MEO and LEO satellites – depending on which is offering the best coverage and speed. The XEO series requires the installation of a dual-band antenna, but its ability to operate across multiple frequencies means fewer domes are required.

Fort Lauderdale-based FMC GlobalSat, meanwhile, also offers a solution that packs in as much redundancy as possible, able to pick up GEO, MEO, LEO satellites across 210 countries, as well as 5G and 4G wireless networks. Emmanuel Cotrel, CEO and founder, says the best option for yacht owners is a hybrid solution.

Connection and navigation specialist KVH recently launched TracNet H90, a hybrid system that marries VSAT with 5G and Wi-Fi. Of Starlink and other LEO and MEO services in development, KVH’s Chris Watson says: “People are eager to learn about what they’ll offer. LEO services may be enough for some customers, and if they’re willing to accept the occasional outages, lack of live support and additional services and more.

“However, we’ve always believed that ‘good enough’ is never good enough when you’re on the water. That’s why we see the new LEO services as part of a genuinely robust connectivity solution for yachts. We designed our TracNet systems to offer that hybrid concept by seamlessly combining VSAT, 5G and Wi-Fi into a single antenna, while integrating and managing additional services, like Starlink, through intelligent, automatic switching for the best connections all the time.”

Savage’s company Excelerate, meanwhile, has launched a product called Hybrid Edge, which can pull in feeds from OneWeb, Starlink, 4/5G and higher-earth orbit satellites to offer the ultimate in redundancy and speed, since the device is able to combine bandwidths. It should be noted, however, that users will still need the relevant receivers on their radar masts for each connection to work.

“Starlink is grabbing the headlines now because it is the first LEO service to hit the mass market,” says Savage. “And while it isn’t the  only LEO service out there, it is enjoying a  period of very little competition, particularly because of the low capital outlay required by users to enjoy the service and the relatively low monthly connectivity costs compared to anything else out there.”

But competition for Starlink is growing as space gets more and more crowded with LEO constellations. Astronomers aren’t happy, but your teenager will be when they’re streaming the latest Netflix release in the middle of the Pacific.

You won't believe what larry ellison and elon musk said to nvidia ceo jensen huang.

Larry Ellison is the chairman of Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) , which is currently building some of the fastest and most cost efficient data centers in the world for developing artificial intelligence (AI). Elon Musk, on the other hand, runs Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) , which is building AI-powered self-driving software for its electric vehicles. He also runs SpaceX, X (formerly Twitter), and a new AI start-up called xAI.

Ellison and Musk need tens of thousands of graphics processors (GPUs) for their data centers in order to bring AI to life, and Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) supplies the best chips in the industry.

At Oracle's financial analyst meeting on Sept. 12, Ellison told the audience that he and Musk recently went to dinner with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at the Nobu restaurant in Palo Alto. The two, who are among the richest people on Earth, found themselves begging Huang for something money simply can't buy at the moment. Here's how it went down.

The arms race for GPUs

Oracle currently has 162 data centers either live or under construction, but it believes that number could eventually top 2,000 because the demand for computing power from AI developers is soaring. Some of Oracle's largest data centers feature clusters of more than 32,000 GPUs, but next year the company will offer a cluster of 131,072 GPUs from Nvidia's latest Blackwell lineup.

Oracle designed unique RDMA (random direct memory access) networking technology that can move data from one point to another more quickly than traditional Ethernet networks, and since developers pay for computing power by the minute, this can significantly reduce costs. That's why leading AI start-ups like OpenAI, Cohere, and even Musk's xAI are using Oracle's infrastructure.

In its recent fiscal 2025 first quarter (ended July 31), the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) segment generated $2.2 billion in revenue, a whopping 45% jump from the year-ago period. However, it could be growing even faster if not for supply constraints -- in other words, Oracle simply can't get its hands on enough GPUs for its data centers.

Not only is Oracle battling other cloud giants like Microsoft , Amazon , and Alphabet for GPU allocations from Nvidia, but tech companies like Tesla and Meta Platforms are also soaking up supply to develop AI for their own purposes. Tesla is trying to bring a cluster of 50,000 GPUs online this year to enhance its self-driving software, which requires a substantial amount of computing power.

Meta, on the other hand, used around 16,000 of Nvidia's flagship H100 GPUs to train its Llama 3.1 large language model (LLM), but the company plans to increase its capacity to a mind-boggling 600,000 H100 equivalents by the end of this year. That will pave the way for Llama 4, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg says could set the benchmark for the industry in 2025.

Ellison and Musk are begging for more GPUs

Ellison and Musk were practically begging Huang for more GPUs, but no amount of money in the world can buy the numbers they require right now because Nvidia simply can't keep up with demand. Oracle and Tesla aren't even Nvidia's biggest customers!

Oracle spent $6.9 billion on capital expenditures (capex) during fiscal 2024 (ended April 30), and it expects to spend double that in fiscal 2025. Most of the money will go toward buying chips and building data centers. Tesla plans to spend over $10 billion on capex this calendar year on the whole, which will also go toward the 50,000 GPU cluster I mentioned earlier.

Those numbers are modest compared to what other tech giants are spending. Microsoft allocated $55.7 billion to capex during its fiscal 2024 (ended June 30), and it plans to spend even more in fiscal 2025. Amazon's capex spending, on the other hand, could top $60 billion in calendar 2024.

Therefore, it's no surprise that Nvidia generated $26.3 billion in data center revenue during its recent fiscal 2025 second quarter (ended July 28), a 154% increase from the year-ago period. Ellison says the wave of AI spending could continue for the next 10 years as companies and nation states battle for tech supremacy when it comes to AI, so Nvidia's data center revenue probably has plenty of growth left in the tank.

Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, has publicly celebrated the expansion of Starlink in Kenya, marking a milestone for the satellite internet service in the country.

Musk took to X to react to news reports about Nairobi City County’s implementation of Starlink as a backup internet link for its Customer Service Centre.

“Starlink in Nairobi!” Musk tweeted, applauding the integration of the service into the county’s ICT infrastructure.

The Nairobi City County Government recently announced that it had integrated Starlink satellite technology to enhance service delivery for residents.

This upgrade is particularly aimed at improving the reliability of the Nairobi Pay system, which is critical to the county’s e-government services .

Tiras Njoroge, Chief Officer of ICT Infrastructure, highlighted the importance of this integration, stating, “We are excited to announce the integration of Starlink satellite technology into our Customer Service Centre, aimed at enhancing and improving service delivery to the residents of Nairobi."

According to Truphena Ogonda, the Nairobi City County Director of ICT Infrastructure, the system’s redundancy is expected to improve the county’s capacity to manage higher data loads, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.

Starlink's Journey in Kenya

Starlink officially launched in Kenya in July 2023, initially facing skepticism over its affordability and reliability.

However, the service has steadily gained traction, especially among users seeking alternatives to traditional internet services.

By March 2024, Starlink had expanded its subscriber base to over 4,800 users , a significant rise from the 405 recorded at launch.

A key factor in Starlink's growing popularity is the introduction of a hardware rental option at Sh1,950 ($15) per month, making it more affordable than the original purchase price of Sh 45,500 ($350).

Starlink also offers a 50 GB monthly data plan for Sh1,300 ($10.16), which has positioned it as a competitive alternative to local telecom giants like Safaricom and Airtel.

User Experience and Challenges

While users in less populated areas have reported satisfactory performance, Starlink faces challenges in urban settings like Nairobi, where erratic internet speeds and high installation costs have been cited by early adopters.

Starlink’s entry into the Kenyan market has not been without controversy.

Safaricom, the country’s largest telecom provider, has raised concerns about the regulatory framework governing satellite internet services.

The telecom giant has urged regulators to impose stricter requirements on satellite providers to ensure compliance with local laws and encourage investment in local infrastructure.

How does satellite internet work?

Satellite internet works by transmitting signals from satellites in space to an internet service provider and then to a modem at the user's location.

A satellite dish installed on the premises receives the signal, which is then distributed via a Wi-Fi router.

This technology is particularly useful in areas where installing physical infrastructure like fibre-optic cables is challenging or economically unviable.

Elon Musk Soaks Up Sun While Spending Time with Pals Aboard Luxury Yacht in Greece

The world's richest person hung out with Ari Emanuel and wife Sarah Staudinger as he faces a lawsuit from Twitter

Elon Musk is continuing to enjoy his time in Greece.

The billionaire Tesla and SpaceX CEO, 51, on Monday was seen soaking up the sunwhile spending time with friends aboard a luxury yacht moored off the coast of Mykonos, Greece.

Photographs showed Musk shirtless while having a drink back on board after diving into the sea. The group he was spending time with included Ari Emanuel , CEO of the entertainment and media agency Endeavor, as well as his wife Sarah Staudinger . Musk was in attendance when the pair said "I do" back in May.

The timing of the trip took place shortly after Musk filed to terminate his $44 billion deal to purchase Twitter , for which the company is suing him.

Nearly two months after the businessman and philanthropist said that the highly anticipated deal was " temporarily on hold ," he claimed in a July 8 filing that the company was in "breach of multiple provisions" of the original agreement.

"Sometimes Twitter has ignored Mr. Musk's requests, sometimes it has rejected them for reasons that appear to be unjustified, and sometimes it has claimed to comply while giving Mr. Musk incomplete or unusable information," read the court filing obtained by PEOPLE.

On July 12, Twitter launched a lawsuit against Musk to "compel" his completion of the deal. In court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Twitter claimed Musk acted in "bad faith" after reaching a deal to buy the social media platform earlier this year.

"In April 2022, Elon Musk entered into a binding merger agreement with Twitter, promising to use his best efforts to get the deal done," Twitter said in the complaint, filed in the Delaware Court of Chancery.

"Now, less than three months later, Musk refuses to honor his obligations to Twitter and its stockholders because the deal he signed no longer serves his personal interests," it continued.

"Having mounted a public spectacle to put Twitter in play, and having proposed and then signed a seller-friendly merger agreement, Musk apparently believes that he — unlike every other party subject to Delaware contract law — is free to change his mind, trash the company, disrupt its operations, destroy stockholder value, and walk away," the company claimed.

Since then, Musk has responded by tweeting a meme of himself laughing in a series of four photos.

"They said I couldn't buy Twitter, Then they wouldn't disclose bot info, Now they want to force me to buy Twitter in court, Now they have to disclose bot info in court," read the meme.

When Musk filed to terminate the deal, he claimed that Twitter did not provide enough information about the number of fake accounts and bots on the social media platform, and didn't give his team enough data to do their own analysis.

Reps for Musk haven't returned PEOPLE's request for comment about the suit.

The designers behind the Colossea have truly imagined the mega yacht to be an opulent serving of luxury across four floors. The yacht is expected to offer guests the five-star treatment as they lounge in the lavish interiors or by the large pool on the top deck. But the real cherry on top is the detachable airship, which can be launched right from the yacht’s main structure at any point in time.

This means guests have the added luxury of taking an aerial tour of any paradise they want to visit while the yacht rests in the middle of the water.

The airship is kept in place using electromagnetic blocks that are unlocked when it’s time to fly. So yes, the Colossea is nothing less than a floating luxury haven that doubles as a launchpad for some aerial adventures .

The airship has a payload of 10,000 kg and the capability to whisk away 24 passengers along with 10 crew members into the blue beyond. Meanwhile, the yacht can comfortably accommodate up to 44 guests and 20 crew members. These guests can enjoy the luxury of the decadent suites available as they glide across the ocean.

Colossea is expected to dominate both the sea and the skies

Colossea is the brainchild of Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini, who is known for his futuristic designs.

Pierpaolo was born in Rome in 1982 and was described on his company’s website as “an Italian designer with artistic visualization and prototyping skills.”

“Pierpaolo Lazzarini spent years working in the automotive field [and] is a designer who believes in a different design approach,” the website added.

Through his project Colossea, Lazzarini is giving a special nod to Norge and paying tribute to the first airship that completed its first verified trip of any kind to the North Pole in 1926, according to a description released by the company along with its awe-inspiring YouTube video of the mega yacht.

“On 12 May, 1926, the Captain Umberto Nobile, Roald Amundsen, and Lincoln Ellsworth directed the Norge airship to the first verified expedition of the North Pole,” read the video that showcased the luxury and prowess of the Colossea project.

The video included spectacular shots of the mega yacht with the main hero, the detachable airship, comfortably sitting on top. The video eventually shows the airship taking flight.

The airship is then seen gliding through the air while the vessel continues cruising.

In the video, the company also made a playful plea to multi-billionaire Elon .

“Elon, get in touch,” read the plea being drawn forward by the aircraft as it soars alongside the vessel.

The company explained that the mega yacht would act as a floating dock station for the detachable airship.

“Colossea reimagines its iconic design with the materials and technologies of today, proposing the same measurements of the 1924 airship with upgraded materials and propulsion,” the company said.

It also noted that the structure of the Colossea is conceived to be made of carbon fiber, including both the exterior blimp surface as well as the interior structures.

“Entirely conceived to be built in carbon fiber from the internal structures to the exterior blimp surface, the airship will be moved by 8 electric engines, with its upper structure comprising a take-off/landing area shaped to the blimp’s form,” the company’s description added.

The company also noted that the blimp of the Colossea will have 22 isolated compartments with various installations, like LH2 tanks (liquid hydrogen), batteries, cabins, and all internal structures.

“The overall volume of the carrier gas compartments have 30,000 mc, which grants the aircraft enough space to release sufficient H2 into any compartment. The LH2 is released into the compartments to adjust the weight balancing needed and also as H2 reserve in case of gas loss.” the company said.

“The same LH2 is devoted to supplying the necessary energy requirement of each engine, capable of pushing the flying vessel to an estimated maximum speed of 165 km/h (about 90 knots), while the Yacht instead is pushed from 4 HTS engines on a maximum speed of 22 knots.

“Likewise, airship propellers can increase and support the efficiency of the sailing,” continued the description of their spectacular project.

While talking about the number of guests that can be accommodated, the company said, “The new airship with 10,000kg of payload and armament can now accommodate up to 24 passengers (plus 10 crew members), though instead, the yacht offers 22 dislocated guest suites and multiple deck[s] with pools on the rear part for a total load capacity up to 44 guests and 20 crew members.”

Although some people were left in awe of the newly released concept images, others online were skeptical about the project, with one saying it will “probably never see the light of day for consumers.”

The man alleged to be Donald Trump's second would-be assassin once asked Elon Musk if he could buy a rocket off him.

In a tweet posted on X-formerly-Twitter in April of this year, suspected gunman Ryan Routh tagged the social network's owner asking him if he could give him the hookup.

"I would like to buy a rocket from you," the 58-year-old who has since been arrested on suspicion of planning an assassination attempt on the former president at his golf course in Palm Beach, Florida, wrote. "I wish to load it with a warhead for [Russian President Vladimir Putin's] Black sea mansion bunker to end him."

"Can you give me a price please[?]," the Hawaii man continued, as if asking about an appliance on Facebook Marketplace. "It can be old and used as not returning."

Though his X account was taken down in the aftermath of the Sunday debacle, which involved the Secret Service thwarting Routh's alleged attempt and catching him when he fled by car, reports from Reuters and  Newsweek confirm its veracity.

Ukraine Crazy

While there's still a lot that isn't known about the alleged attempt on Trump's life, what we do know is alarming.

As alluded to in his highly unofficial query to Musk, the 58-year-old who originally hailed from North Carolina was a zealous supporter of Ukraine's resistance to Putin's invasion. He was even interviewed by the  New York Times about his alleged contributions to Ukraine's defense efforts last year and told reporters that he was trying to recruit Afghanis who'd fled the Taliban to join the cause.

Beyond his ardent Ukraine support, Routh's politics seem to be something of a jumble. In another post from his now-suspended account, the alleged gunman admitted in July to having voted for Trump back in 2016, saying he'd become disenchanted with him over the course of his presidency.

As of now, it's unclear what Routh's motives were, but as the Associated Press and other outlets have noted, he once urged Iran to take Trump out in a bizarre book he seems to have self-published last year. That book, notably, was also about Ukraine.

"You are free to assassinate Trump," Routh wrote in his chilling dispatch. "No one here in the US seems to have the balls to put natural selection to work or even unnatural selection."
