Brand: Whitehaven

mark pescott catamaran designs

Whitehaven Catamarans are found throughout Australia and SE Asia. These cruisers are capable of fast, excellent performance, and in race regattas have won ocean racing Brisbane to Gladstone. Australian architect, Mark Pescott has a design philosophy of light, low windage profiles for these catamarans. The super strong construction sandwiches WRC/Epoxy Glass, resulting in an unsinkable boats that also performs well under sail or engine.

There are no catamarans currently for sale of this brand.

Floating Gallery

A masterpiece in itself, this 46-foot catamaran was built in it's entirety by Jo's husband Drew over three years in Redcliffe, Queensland. Created from strip planked western red cedar, fibreglass, foam and carbon this vessel is unique to its kind. Not only is it the largest Pescott catamaran ever built, this Mark Pescott/Drew Wooler design is a floating gallery to boot!

Walking up the swim steps into the cockpit you are greeted with a seascape feature wall in the saloon. Exploring the port and starboard hulls you find exquisite artworks displayed throughout in a refreshing and exciting way, creating a memorable cultural experience for all who visit the gallery.

Phuket Multihull Regatta Wrap Up

Posted: 6 August 2014.

By Bob Mott published in Multihull World Magazine.

A strong contingent from Australia as far as crews, charterers, designers and builders made up around 90% of the fleet.

Leading the numbers stakes were Mark Pescott designs with six Fireflies competing in their design class and a Summerhaven competing in the Open Class Catamarans. Following were the Stealth Catamarans designed by Alan Carwardine with four entered in Racing Multihulls. Also in contention Nina an Andaman Cabriolet built by Composite Catamarans Phuket / Grenville Fordham and Bob Mott. All in all 11 catamarans were built in Phuket, and Aussies had a hand in 15 of the 19 entries if you include Richard Ward’s Corsairs out of Vietnam.

The Corsairs had a good presence with three entered including the newly launched Corsair Sprint Mark 2 of Zam Bevan and Shane Grover from Vietnam.

Corsair also provided crew shirts for all the Corsair crews plus a cash offering toward the event.

You will see by the participant’s spreadsheet the state of origin of competitors from Australia.

Multihull Solutions (www.multihullsolutions.asia) have signed up for two years as naming sponsor for the Ao Chalong Yacht Club’s (www.acyc.asia) Multihull Regatta plus a renew option.

is good. If you are prepared to look at unconventional but very good look at Bernd Kohler's designs. Very fast light but very . In any case any cat should not be loaded with all your clutter, get rid of it and only load useful and light stuff.

Boat: Pescott Whitehaven 11.7
with two queen cabins, double, couple of singles, and full ... and is considered the 'boat to beat' in races the go for Mark Pescott's Whitehaven 11.7.

I built mine 10 years ago--well I had the shell built and then did the fitout, rig etc. A beautiful looking and amazing sailing . They're built out of WRC strip planking and for the large flat areas, foam composite. The bulkheads are WRC with some carbon and the latest plans from Mark are detailed but you do need to know some basics in building--hence why I had the shell built professionally. My boat came in at around 4 tonne, I lived on board for a year and she went up considerably but still was doing 8 knots upwind.

They are daggerboard boats, usually have outboards--I had twin 20hp Hondas and they were incredible--would never go back to diesels--they lasted 10 years and the problem was they did not get used enough--basically these boats sail in any so you drop the , for 2 minutes and put up the ... They are amazing sea boats, I threw mine at everything I could and she could still take more.

THere are over 25 boats built of different sizes and they have a devoted following by people who appreciate great sailing boats that also have room.

Here's there FB page link (King of the Gulf is my boat--I've just her)

Here's us in 40 knots of sailing up the NSW coast ( )

As you can see I am totally biased--for us she was the perfect boat--gave us all the space we ever wanted in a boat that sailed amazingly.

.
I get that he wanted them to look racey and maybe the airflow drag of some practical vertical opening windows will knock off a degree or so of pointing ability but would that off for a .
Not sure how practical it would be to modify...

Boat: Pescott Whitehaven 11.7
type windows in there. She's very well suited to warm climates too--we survived many 45 deg days with no aircon.

Boat: Pescott Whitehaven 11.7
wonderfully and the owner has a stack of information on his website about the build--really good stuff.

Boat: Milkraft 60 ex trawler
in Western some years ago. His grizzle was that the curved sheer lines (deck to join) used longitudinal timber strips and this created an exceptional extra amount of . Building and fairing this part of the hulls was very time and labour consuming.

Build them fair, sand and plane them fair before glassing and there is not much work at all.
If you want to save effort again, bring the non skid down over the radius.

It is interesting that a did not like the fairing of the radius on a Schionning. In some ways strips can be faster than a chine to fair and the two mates who built Schionnings did not worry too much about doing it. I do not really like tight chines in amateur boats as the chine line can be really hard to fair, so rounding off a chine or deck radius is sometimes okay. Although even Schionning has a flat topsides on his Arrow designs.

Dulfex is fine IF you build it right. I prefer foam to duflex, although I really like ply for flat that do not require stringers . Also I would urge the OP to prioritise the sentiments of those who have built larger multis. After building four - cedar/ply/foam/duflex, foam carbon, Kiri/ply, foam/ply - I have realised that all materials can do a great job when well built.

You're right about the radius, mine is very rounded and it was not that difficult. The reality is that building the shell is only about 1/3 of the work--took me years to get the properly done!

Looking for aluminum sailing cat plans

I am looking to purchase building plans for a 37' to 45' aluminum sailing catamaran. I am having difficulties locating any sailing aluminum catamaran plans and I would appreciate if any body can give me any leads on finding some plans or some experienced designers. If I can not find any genuine aluminum cat plan, I am also thinking about a hard chine plywood to aluminum plan conversion. I have already located two plywood catamaran plans that could be converted to aluminum but both designers have already published statement that they do not favor aluminum as a building material for their unit. Basically, my customer has his mind set on an aluminum construction. With the plans I will be able to give him a cost analysis of building in aluminum, building in Cored composites and purchasing a used unit.

did you find drawings for aluminium hulls Mr Le Blanc Noting that your discussion took place some time ago - I am eager to find out, if you actually did build the aluminium hulls. I am myself looking into building af 45ft multihull (have not yet decided whether it will be tri or cat...) and will be in need of drawings for the project.. If any suggestions for supplier - I will be happy to receive. Regards Peter

In Thailand there are a couple of aluminum cats, they were designed by a guy called Munnery? or something like that. If you can't get any joy there then in Australia there is a designer called Peter Kerr who designs and builds nice looking alloy cats. Buy Multihull World mag or go to their website and look for Lizard yachts or Peter Kerr designs. Mark Pescott in Thailand would be able to tell you about the alloy cats in Thailand. cheers Phil Thompson
