Dit jaar tijdens de Hiswa te Water staat KM Yachtbuilders op de beurs met maar liefst drie schepen. Met trots laat de scheepswerf uit Makkum haar nieuwste modellen zien in de Bestevaer-serie, namelijk de Bestevaer 36 en 62. Ook nemen zij de Bestevaer 53 M/Y wederom mee.

Bestevaer 36 S/Y

De pas gelanceerde Bestevaer 36 ‘BVIII’ is ontworpen door en voor Gerard Dijkstra. De scheepswerf omschrijft haar als compact in formaat, maar groots in ervaring. Dit in juli 2023 gelanceerde jacht is de kleinste Bestevaer tot nu toe, maar blijft de kernwaarden van de serie vertegenwoordigen. Namelijk: hoge prestaties, kracht en een stralend ontwerp.

Daarnaast is BVIII het meest duurzame jacht dat KM Yachtbuilders tot nu toe heeft gebouwd. Het team maakte gebruik van gerecycled aluminium voor zowel de romp als de mast. En het schip is geïsoleerd met kurk en minerale wol. Verder beschikt dit hybride jacht over een elektrische aandrijving. Tijdens het zeilen levert deze aandrijving geregenereerde stroom terug. Gerard Dijkstra gaat samen met zijn vrouw Loontje dit schip gebruiken om de Waddenzee en kleinere wateren te ontdekken.

Ook is de Bestevaer 36 S/Y genomineerd voor de Boot van het Jaar 2023 . De bekendmaking van de winnaars vindt plaats op de avond voor de start van de Hiswa te Water.

Bestevaer 62 S/Y

De Bestevaer 62 ‘Luskentyre’ biedt de ideale combinatie van kracht en een klassieke uitstraling. Haar interieur is geïnspireerd op de VOC-schepen, waardoor ze een unieke stijl kreeg. Voor de meubels maakte KM Yachtbuilders gebruik van gemodificeerd eikenhout en voor de vloer gebruikten ze hout van een authentieke schuur.

Naast uiterlijke schoonheid, beschikt het jacht over de nieuwste technologieën, waaronder een hybride motor, watermaker, airco, liftkiel en carbon rigging. Alles zorgvuldig geïntegreerd in het ontwerp, grotendeels onzichtbaar weggewerkt. Hierdoor blijft de nadruk liggen op de tijdloze stijl, zonder afbreuk te doen aan comfort en functionaliteiten. De eigenaren gaan haar gebruiken voor zowel reizen naar het hoge noorden als naar warmere gebieden.

Tijdens de Hiswa te Water zal Luskentyre het grootste zeilschip van de beurs zijn.

Bestevaer 53 M/Y

De Bestevaer 53 ‘Bryndis’ is de eerste motorboot die door KM Yachbuilders is gemaakt. De werf werkt al jaren samen met Dykstra Naval Architects, net als voor het ontwerp van dit motorjacht. Haar uiterlijk verwijst naar klassieke motorjachten, uitgevoerd met de kennis van nu.

KM Yachtbuilders scales down Bestevaer for Naval Architect Gerard Dykstra

MAKKUM – KM Yachtbuilders is building a 36ft (11m) aluminum ‘Bestevaer’ sailing yacht in collaboration with Dutch naval architect Gerard Dykstra, designer of the distinctive brand made for short-handed, long-distance voyaging.

Dykstra, the founder of Amsterdam-based Dykstra Naval Architects, recently sold his 53ft Bestevaer II and was looking for a smaller version for sailing in shallower waters close to home. Dykstra designed the Bestevaer brand for exploring waters from the polar regions to the tropics. He preferred the former and has often been photographed in his 53ft Bestevaer II negotiating icy waters up north.

KM Yachtbuilders Director Eeuwe Kooi, whose yard builds Bestevaers, says the scaled-down Bestevaer will have a minimum draft of only 70cms (2.4ft) with a centerboard keel and folding, attached rudder. “We think there are more sailors interested in this design. The first one is for Gerard. Then we’ll take the design into production.”

The Bestevaer yachts are exceptional craft. Dykstra designed them with a bare aluminum hull to prevent fouling and save weight. Bestevaers are known for their comfort, strength, and performance.

The Bestevaer II that Dykstra owned is a fast-cruising version of the original single-handed racer he designed in 1976. The 36ft version will have a deckhouse but down below offers a spatial effect by avoiding cubicles. Decks ooze user-friendliness.

The yacht will carry a Hoyt boom on the foredeck for the jib making cruising easier. The rudder is suspended and foldable to save cockpit space and for drying out. The boat has electric propulsion. Several battery packs can be connected, depending on the required sailing time. If necessary, a generator can serve as a backup.

The hull and the spars are made from 8mm recycled aluminum.

Dykstra founded his naval architects’ studio in 1969. It is currently led by CEO Thys Nikkels. The studio has been active in designing spars, and rigs and doing structural analysis. It developed the futuristic Dynarig and Aerorig concepts and worked on the redesign of classic J-class yachts.

On April 23rd Edwin Luijf from Dykstra Naval Architects and Eeuwe Kooi will hold a lecture about the new ‪Bestevaer‬ 45ST PURE at 12:00 and 14:00 during the KM Yachtbuilders Open Day. Several Bestevaer and Bestewind yachts can be visited from 10:00 - 16:00 and at 15:30 the new PURE will be christened.

The Open Day includes an insight in the KM Yachtbuilders facilities, a Nautical Market, a Lifestyle Market, and yachts on display.
