Discover the Diamond Rock in a catamaran
Situated in the south-west of Martinique, the commune of Le Diamant has a curiosity that is well worth a visit. Opposite its magnificent white sandy beach is an impressive rock from which the commune takes its name.
A remnant of Martinique’s volcanic activity, the Rocher du Diamant is a tiny uninhabited islet located around two kilometres from the tip of the Pointe du Diamant in the Sainte-Lucie Channel.
Measuring 175 metres in height, the rock takes its name from its general appearance, which is pointed and bevelled, but also from the reflections on its walls, which are reminiscent of those of a precious stone at certain times of the day. This islet was once the scene of clashes between France and the British crown, who saw its strategic potential.
The best way to discover the Diamond Rock is to take a day trip on a catamaran.

The catamaran is one of the types of vessels preferred for sea excursions among sailboats, yachts, and semi-rigids for many reasons: its stability on the sea, its speed, and because it has enough space to host passengers comfortably.

The meal choices are creole-style roasted chicken (it’s chicken on a sauce with local spices, a bit spicy) and fish cooked on coconut milk (sea bream or marlin)

- desert: coconut blancmange and its chocolate fondant squares
- the meal for the afternoon is a selection of fresh fruit.

Took the sail/snorkel excursion on the Diamond Rock in Martinique off of the Windstar Star Pride cruise ship. It was the best of any of the other 7 shore excursions, including another catamaran sail/snorkel in Les Saintes, Guadeloupe. The captain and crew of the Diamond Rock are outstanding! Food was amazing as was the rum punch!

We had seen the Diamond rock first from the Salines Beach, then from our lunch at Chill (cool restaurant, see separate review) on the way here, but it's not until we actually got to the official vista point that we noticed the true size and full beauty of this rock. The British somehow sneaked to the top of the rock, built a fort with fortifications, put some battery and controlled the waters. They decimated any French ships trying to enter the shores of Fort-de-France. French troops made several unsuccessful attempts to retake the rock.
