At a Ferretti Group private preview held in the Monaco Yacht Club, Riva presented El-Iseo, the brand’s first full electric runabout, which brings together traditional design, advanced technology, and innovation.   In the magical year of its 180th anniversary, packed with events and new developments, Riva harnesses sustainability to heritage in its first full electric runabout. As the venue for presenting El-Iseo, the brand’s first electric prototype, it would have been unthinkable not to choose Monaco’s magnificent Yacht Club, where Riva has always been at home and where environmental sensibility is both an imperative and a guiding value.

The occasion was Ferretti Group’s glittering Private Preview, an event keenly awaited by owners and friends to sneak a peek at the Group’s new models.   “El-Iseo is a glorious new chapter in the challenge that only Riva can experience every day, that of combining its legendary history with cutting-edge technology to generate beauty and style that will never go out of fashion,” said Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi. “The El-Iseo project is extremely important to us, which is why we decided to preview it here at the Monaco Yacht Club, a natural choice for Riva as it’s a place where ecological sensibility has been at work for years, with virtuous practices and concrete initiatives like the Sea Index®, the Monaco Smart & Sustainable Rendezvous, and the Energy Boat Challenge. Now 180 years old, Riva is still leading the field with the credibility and visionary force that only a contemporary legend can draw on.”   El-Iseo is the fully electric version of the much-loved Iseo, the versatile and seductively modern-looking 27-foot runabout whose sophisticated spirit lives on in the hull, deck, style, and colors of the new boat. El-Iseo is powered by a Parker GVM310 full electric engine.   Retaining a traditional stern drive propulsion system, El-Iseo has an engine supplied by Parker Hannifin, a leading US motion and control technology multinational, that offers unprecedented performance in terms of speed and acceleration. With a power output of 250 kW and 300 kW peak, the Parker GVM310 gives the Riva prototype a cruising speed of 25 knots and a self-limited top speed of 40 knots, with an acceleration curve significantly steeper than that of a similarly sized boat powered by an internal combustion engine. El-Iseo is a high performer in terms of range too, delivering up to ten hours of navigation in economy mode, which makes this prototype a unique combination of ultra-high performance and maximum sustainability.   Rounding out her innovation and sustainability credentials, El-Iseo has a lithium battery pack supplied by Podium Advanced Technologies, a leading innovator and specialist in batteries, automotive design, and motorsport, here working for the first time in the world of yachting. Specially developed for this project, the batteries in El-Iseo have a capacity of 150 kWh and are configured in two independent blocks located between the engine and the stern seating.   Integration of onboard systems, such as transmission, throttles, and onboard control systems in general, including management of driving and battery charging modes, has once again been assigned to innovation leader and Ferretti Group partner Xenta.   Upon boarding El-Iseo, the boat’s two souls are immediately apparent. There are the unmistakable finishes, colors, and detailing typical of the boats that made the brand world-famous, but equalling eye-catching is the helm station with its fully digital, touchscreen dashboard designed to mimic the analog displays of past boats. Even the naming of the three drive modes - Allegro, Andante, and Adagio, the tempos of classical music - alludes to the tradition that has inspired all Riva boats.   El-Iseo is the perfect expression of Riva’s essence: on one hand, deep respect for the tradition of a brand that has helped to write the history of Italian boatbuilding and, on the other, that constant drive towards perfection and ongoing research into innovation using the latest technologies.

Riva reveals first electric boat

Ferretti Group’s display at Boot Dusseldorf included the Riva El-Iseo, the production version of the brand’s first electric boat.

Ferretti Group staged the world premiere of the Riva El-Iseo at Boot Dusseldorf, where the Italian boat-building giant also debuted Wally’s new wallypower50 and announced other upcoming models.

Riva displayed a prototype of the of the El-Iseo at previous boat shows including the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival, but the stunning blue version on show at Messe Dusseldorf was an example of the official, production version of the first full-electric model in Ferretti Group’s new E-Luxury segment.

Based on the design of the Iseo, Riva’s smallest model, the 27ft El-Iseo has a full-electric Parker GVM310 motor from Parker Hannifin, “offering unprecedented performance in terms of speed and acceleration”, according to the Group.

Certified by RINA, the El-Iseo also contains a high-energy-density lithium battery pack by Podium Advanced Technologies, which offers an efficient, lightweight solution with a capacity of 150 kWh and a voltage of 800V. Otherwise, the yacht retains Riva’s classic use of polished mahogany and stainless-steel detailing as seen on the Iseo.

The Group’s upcoming models include two Wally sailing yachts, the wallywind110 cruiser-racer and the wallyrocket51, while the wallywhy100 presented at a private preview in Venice last December will be presented at boat shows later this year. The Ferretti Yachts Infynito 80 and Pershing GTX80 are both expected to premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival (September 10-15).

Ferretti Group also revealed financial figures including revenues of €856.4 million and adjusted EBITDA of €124.8 million for the first nine months of last year, up 9.8 per cent and 17.7 per cent respectively on the corresponding period in 2022.

The company launched new offices at its Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona in December and continues to develop its new 70,000sqm production hub in Ravenna. Ferretti Group is a public company, with over 50 per cent of its share capital traded on the market, having listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2022 and Euronext Milan in 2023.

Will Smith, Rafael Nadal teams finish 1-2 at Lake Como E1 electric boat races

The fifth race of the inaugural season of the E1 electric boat race series took place at stunning Lake Como this past weekend, with the Westbrook Racing Team owned by actor Will Smith placing first and Rafael Nadal’s Team Rafa coming in second. The team owned by former NFL quarterback Tom Brady placed fifth at Como, but retained its first place position in the run for the season championship.

High achieving owners

The E1 Series features nine teams owned by famous high achievers in the worlds of sports, entertainment and industry. In addition to Smith, Nadal and Brady, the six other teams are owned by international footballer Didier Drogba, legendary Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, F1 driver Sergio Perez, Brazilian entrepreneur Marcelo Claure and from the music sphere, DJ / Producer Steve Aoki and multi-Grammy Award winner Marc Anthony.

Each team has a female and male driver who race in all the rounds –  Qualifying, Semi-Finals, Race Offs and Finals – but there is not a specific female race and male race, the teams are free to put either pilot in any race. The team’s combined times and placings for each leg determine the number of points won for the Championship, with 20 points for the winner, 16 for second place and going down to a single point for the ninth place finisher.

In each five lap race the pilots are required to have one long lap (the green lanes on the image above) and permitted one energy ‘boost’, used strategically for overtaking another boat or for the leader extending the gap over the second place boat.

This weekend’s races – the first held on a lake – took place on the waters off the iconic Villa d’Este hotel, which has been the host for the past three years of its own Electric Yachting regatta that celebrates the bond between Alessandro Volta (namesake of  the volt electric unit) and the nearby city of Como. This year’s Electric Yachting event will take place September 29.

The Villa is committed to electric yachting year round. Guests can rent the ‘e-Commuter’ handcrafted wooden boat by Cantiere Ernesto Riva that was a winner in the 2021 Gussies electric boat awards. The boatyard also electrified a classic vaporina that is used by the hotel as a shuttle and cruise boat. 

Team Brady going for the win

Coming out of Monaco and going into the fifth race weekend at the Villa, Team Brady had finished first in three out of four events –  Jedda, Venice and Monaco – with Marc Anthony’s Team Miami in second and Will Smith’s Westbrook Racing third in the overalls.

Team Rafa has also had consistent finishes throughout the season, but could never get to the top of the podium. Team Drogba’s second place finish was a bit of a surprise coming out of Monaco that has added to the intrigue and competitiveness of the overall standings. 

Championship Standings going into Lake Como

In the qualifying laps held Saturday morning in Como, Team Brady pilots Emma Kimiläinen and Sam Coleman clinched pole position over Team Rafa in second place and Team Miami in third.

It looked like that session might set the table for a fourth Brady win, but they were handed a penalty in the Semi Finals on Saturday for unauthorized work on their foils. As a consequence, the team – in both female and male races – was required to complete an additional long lap, adding 543 m (1/3 of a mile) to their race.

Surprising Finals

Still, Team Brady needed only a third place finish to clinch the Championship. It was not to be, however. In Final 1, Westwood took and kept an early lead throughout. Much of the excitement in the race came from a flurry of jockeying between Team Rafa pilot Chris Lazarraga (the only female in the race) and Team Aoki pilot Saud Ahmed.

At the end of Final 1, the big surprise was that the two teams that had been dominant in both qualifying and the Semi-Finals were in 4th and 5th. Result: Westwood Racing, Team Brazil, Team Aoki, Team Rafa and Team Brady.

Onto Final 2, where the crowd was eager to see if Team Brady could claw their way back in. The races started with all boats speeding along the first straightaway, with team Aoki going off the course on the first turn and never being able to catch up.

Team Brady then jumped out to an early lead but pilot Emma Kimiläinen continued the weekend’s run of bad luck, hitting one of the race markers on lap 2 as Team Rafa slipped into first position. Results of Final 2: Rafa, Westbrook, Brazil, Brady, Aoki.

With one race weekend left in the season, this is now a very interesting scenario.

Theoretically, if Team Brady were to be disqualified and get 0 points, any of the next four teams could grab 20 points and finish as the Champion. Realistically, though, top place is  between Team Brady and Will Smith’s Westbrook Racing, with the second to fifth spots up for grabs between any of the current top six. In either case, ti should make for an exciting end to this very successful first season of the E1 Series and bring a lot of attention to electric boats.

Electric Boat welding subcontractor to lay off 117 in October. What we know.

NORTH KINGSTOWN – A North Carolina company that provides specialty welding services to nuclear submarine builder General Dynamics Electric Boat has told state officials that it will lay off 117 non-union Rhode Island workers.

Riley Power Group, headquartered in Pinehurst, North Carolina, filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice on Thursday with the state Department of Labor and Training . The notice says the cuts will take effect Oct. 21. It does not say whether it's closing its facility in Rhode Island, although such notices are expected to provide that information.

Riley has worked with Electric Boat's Quonset Point facility since 2017 supporting the fabrication and assembly of submarine components, according to R i ley's website . "For the last two years, RPG has provided structural and pipe welding services to Electric Boat for the fabrication of various Navy vessels," the website says.

33m Riva Dolcevita motor yacht Tasty Waves joins the market

The 33.5-metre Riva Dolcevita Tasty Waves has joined the market with William Blackwell Jr. of Allied Marine . 

The yacht is a well-maintained example of Riva's bestselling 110 Dolcevita series, which balances a fast, planing-hull design with a cool, yet classic interior that prioritises natural light and high-quality finishes. Officially delivered in 2020, the GRP is one of 24 Riva yachts for sale , according to BOATPro .

With 219GT to play with, this model can accommodate 10 guests and five crew. Officina Italiana Design is behind the interiors, working with signature Riva turquoise, stainless steel accents, ebony leather and glossed mahogany. The main saloon benefits from large windows and mirrored overheards to maximise the feeling of light, with an asymmetric furniture arrangement. There is a dining arrangement forward, alongside sliding glass doors that lead onto the walkaround deck. This deck has an enclosed galley and forward helm station. 

The flybridge yacht has a large owner's cabin with en suite finished in grey marble with his and hers sinks. There is a small vanity in the cabin, alongside good-sized wardrobe spaces.

Al fresco living spaces include a flybridge that's well-optimised for socialising. The wet bar is large for a yacht of this size and sits adjacent to a shaded seating area. As well as giving a yacht owner the flexibility to drive from up top, there is also a few different seating options, including loose furniture on the aft. For an alternative coffee spot, the main deck aft has a similar set-up.

One of the highlights on board Tasty Waves is the foredeck, which has a sunpad spread and Portuguese bridge which will allow an owner to take full advantage of sunny days at sea. 

Tasty Waves benefits from a recently extended engine warranty - 36 months, up to 4500 hours - and dual Starlink system that's perfect for owners working from sea. Top speed is around 29 knots and cruising speed is 25 knots.

Tasty Waves is asking $10,950,000 and is lying in Fort Lauderdale.
