  • Superyacht Recruitment Agencies
  • Recruitment

Finding a job on a Superyacht is not always an easy process, and can be confusing if you haven’t had the right support or advice.

To make your new career path a little bit easier, we have listed some of the best Superyacht Recruitment Agencies that have found jobs for our customers in the past.

Much like how a general recruitment agency operates, a Superyacht Recruitment Agency’s job is to find their clients (Superyachts) suitable candidates for all positions onboard, from Deckhands to Captains.

Agencies work by utilising their database of contacts and industry relationships to connect the right person with the right Superyacht.

Superyacht Recruitment Agencies can help you find that dream job, we recommend that all new crew sign up with a few Recruitment Agencies.

Remember, before registering with the Superyacht Recruitment agency, you must be qualified as a Stewardesses and Deckhands.

What do Superyacht Recruitment Agents do?

The primary role of a Superyacht Recruitment agent is to place the best-suited candidate onto a Superyacht. A lot of time and money goes into placing candidates; picking the right candidate for the role is essential to ensure the smooth running of the yacht. Agents have a responsibility to the new crew to ensure the yacht they are placed on is safe, and the crew are treated fairly. Therefore, almost all the agencies, comply with the MLC (Marine Labour Convention) and all advertised jobs and contracts issued comply with the regulations.

A legitimate Superyacht Recruitment agent will ask you to enrol on their database and provide personal details, and you will be asked to upload your CV and qualifications. The Recruitment Agency will complete background checks and may look at your Social media profile. What they won’t do is ask you for any money upfront or pay for any services or advice.

Should you use a Superyacht Recruitment Agency

Superyacht Recruitment Agents are by far the best way of finding a job on a Superyacht, as both parties benefit if you find a job. Our advice is to register with multiple recruitment agents while in the UK and keep in touch with them on a regular basis. The recruitment agents will provide honest advice on your CV and how you should find that dream job – they are there to help.

Friends and family

If you have friends or family working in the industry, now is the time to contact them and see if they know of any jobs that may suit your skills. Yachts love recommendations, especially from crew working in the industry, as they understand the role and can reassure the Captain or Chief Stew that they are making the right choice.

Using a range of sources to find work will put you in a great position, and signing up to a Superyacht Recruitment Agency is an important part of the process. Because of their good relationships with employers, they are often the first to hear about new jobs, or may even have exclusive access to work that won’t be posted online.

The agency will provide CV advice and interview techniques. After all, it is in their interest to make you as employable as possible, this is how they make their money!

Looking for Superyacht jobs online

As you can imagine, there are many Facebook groups, Superyachts use social media to post jobs directly online. Most Superyacht Recruitment Agencies will have Facebook and Instagram pages with loads of content. As well as Recruitment Agency pages, there are many Facebook groups, Antibes yacht crew and Palma yacht Crew are some of our favorites, but there are many more.

Consider signing up to YotSpot

Thousands of roles are posted on Yotspot, and it is popular for greenie positions. Be sure to take your time setting up your profile and checking the site regularly to apply for suitable positions. Yotspot is very competitive, and you may find you are one of a few hundred that has applied for a role and may not get a reply if you are unsuccessful. Having trained with Flying Fish, you have an advantage over most green crew, so stick at it!

Why Choose TYS Recruitment?

Testimonials, what our crew say, edward, bosun.

I had the pleasure of working with Taryn recently, and I must say, her professionalism and expertise surpassed all expectations. From the moment we connected, it was evident that Taryn was dedicated in making sure the boat was the right fit for me. Taryn demonstrated exceptional communication skills throughout the entire hiring process. Tayrn promptly kept me informed with the boat movements and made the whole process very easy.

Claudia, Stewardess

I got in contact with Eloise at TYS Recruitment regarding a temp job. The communication with Eloise was outstanding. She quickly picked up my contact and she gave me a good overview of what the job implied. She made sure that both parties were happy with each other. I would highly recommend her as she has a very friendly and positive approach. She doesn’t hold you on the line and she cuts to the chase, which is very appreciated in this industry.

Victoria, Sole Stew

Taryn has been exceptional in every step of the process from the initial reach out to the phone interview and to my placement in my current position. She was extremely informative about the position and the boat and continued to check in with me throughout the final interview and even as I am still on board. She really did find the perfect “home” for me with the boat, crew, Captian and owners. You have an amazing lady working for you and I can’t thank her enough for making this such an awesome experience!

Lauryn, Deck/Stew

Out of my three years in yachting, this is the first time I’ve gotten a position through working with an agent. After seeing a position I was interested in, messages, calls, responses and communication were also timely and fluid. It was a quick process that landed me a job in my favorite crew and program yet! Thanks to Taryn, I’m working in a great program with the best crew & camaraderie I’ve experienced to this date

What Our Clients Say

Thomas, captain.

Taryn at TYS did a great job with communicating the Captain and Stewardess Job available while providing a smooth transition onboard. The   resources of stewardess online training (through the sister company, The Yacht Stew Academy), progressed a green stewardess into a sole stewardess on a 112’ very quickly. Highly recommend TYS.

Arina, Chief Stewardess

The Yacht Stew Recruitment is the best recruitment agency I have worked with, I can highly recommend them. I recently needed to recruit a stewardess for a third interior in my team and was looking for a very specific person to fit our boat. Gemma and her team made this process so easy and left no stone unturned. They immediately knew what I was looking for and they really narrowed it down to great quality candidates. They checked in with me continuously following up on the stewardess they have placed for us.

Toni, Chief Stewardess

My experience with TYS Recruitment has been absolutely amazing. The amount of CV’s that came through, the way everything was laid out was highly efficient. Eloise constantly stayed on top of everything and even helped the green stews to understand their joining contract and SEA. Just amazing! TYS Recruitment most definitely stands out as my preferred agent.

Kate, Chief Stewardess

I asked TYS Recruitment to assist me in the hiring of a new stew. The team didn’t waste anytime diving in and asking me what kind of Stew I’m looking for and about the program of the vessel. The detail and time spent ensuring the candidates put forward were a complete match was evident. I gained a wonderful new Stew who fitted in very well. They were professional at all times and ensured I was comfortable and happy throughout the whole process. I will not hesitate to use The Yacht Stew again in the future!

Lucas Urruty Officer of the Watch (OOW) "I started yachting 7 years ago, from not knowing the industry at all to getting my first OOW position last year. I remember in the first stages of my training I had nobody to guide me on how or in what order or priority to do my modules. I followed the yacht route, and up until now I have always gone back to Yotspot in my career to see what requirements, sea time and courses I need and in what order as a reference. I have booked at least 4 of my modules through Yotspot and even got my current job thanks to the site. It has changed the game in our industry regarding crew, training and so much more, highly recommend! "
Liubov Chunikhovska Ex Chief Stewardess (MY Luna, 100m) "If you're looking for a job or recruiting crew I personally think that Yotspot is the best service in the industry. It basically has everything you need in one place. Yotspot has been crucial to work with professionals and provides a high-level of support. Thank you Yotspot Team and wishing you inspiration to keep going with new ideas along with success!"
Jo Stepien Stewardess/ Masseuse (MY New Secret, 75m) "I have been using Yotspot to find new interesting opportunities since the beginning of my yachting career. I have chosen to look on this platform because it offers full spectrum of options that you want to include in your search such as temporary or rotational position. I haven't seen it on any other yacht job search site and I always found it super useful to specify your search like that and look for the best option for me. Yotspot is a time saver. I have found my current job on it and I am very grateful for that. I will definitely recommend it to any yachtie to create a profile and search for his or her dream job on Yotspot as it's definitely somewhere there!"

Adam Handyside Chief Officer/ Relief Captain (MY Madame GU, 99m) "Madame Gu finds the Yotspot site a very effective way of reducing crew placement costs. There appears to be an increasing number of crew who are using it today. The site can be accessed 24hrs a day 7 days a week. The more it's used the more cost effective it becomes. Most traditional Crew Recruitment companies have no such concessions. Yotspot is our first stop when recruiting"
Brooke Holt Crew Coordinator (Sea Shepherd Conservation Society) "Yotspot is super useful as it is available 24/7. The fact that candidates are ranked from most suitable to the role, to least makes it easier to sort the square pegs for the round holes! Each job receives an excellent response rate with often more than one ideal candidate to deliberate over. Over the last three years, we have recruited over 25 crew from Yotspot, all of which have been wonderful additions to the crew. I would certainly recommend anyone needing to hire crew to use the Yotspot service as the value for money is second to none. I can post with confidence everytime. "
Marc Micheletti Captain (MY Eileen, 50m) "I have been using Yotspot since its early inception and I have to say that I keep being very impressed by its simplicity and effectiveness. Not only is it incredibly cost effective, the simplicity of posting a position and looking for crew is amazing. I have also used it myself for looking for employment and it also works really well from an Employee perspective. I am a big fan, keep up the good work Yotspot, you have my full support"

Household staff agency / Hire private staff / Yacht crew

Hire yacht crew

Yacht and sail boat crews are teams of highly trained and experienced professionals providing an on board care and hospitality service.  They are expected to work together towards a common goal of providing the best bespoke service for their client, their client’s family, guests and associates.

Every crew member plays a key role in providing a premium on board service. Generally, a strict hierarchy ensures that each individual is able to perform his or her tasks to the necessary level of excellence, to meet or even exceed their client’s high expectations.

On board crews are divided into two teams: one team dedicated to cabin service, and the second team focused on vessel maintenance and navigation. Mega-yachts and super-yachts may necessitate larger crews of up to 20 people.

Bayesian yacht sinking: Banking boss among four victims who ‘suffocated in cabin air bubble’

Four of the victims of the Bayesian yacht disaster died after oxygen ran out in an air bubble on the sunken boat, it has been reported.

Autopsies over the past few days on four of those who died have revealed an absence of water in their lungs, suggesting they suffocated as the air became saturated with carbon dioxide, Italian publication La Repubblica said.

The outlet reported post-mortems showed four people died from “atypical drowning”, with “no water in their lungs, trachea and stomach”. There were no signs of external injuries.

The results appear to back up investigators’ opinions that the victims sought out air pockets inside the ship before they died.

The incident, which claimed the lives of seven people including British tech magnate Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah, unfolded last month after a violent storm hit the yacht off the coast of Sicily .

The yacht sank quickly , trapping the victims below deck as it settled on its right side. Divers who retrieved the victims’ bodies on board found five of them, including Mr Lynch, in one cabin on the left side of the yacht. Hannah Lynch’s body was the last to be found, in a separate cabin.

Jonathan Bloomer had a 50-year career in the finance sector, while his wife Judith worked as a psychotherapist for nearly 30 years

The body of the yacht’s chef, Recaldo Thomas, was also recovered floating near the wreckage, which lies 50 metres below the surface.

Investigators believe the victims sought out remaining air pockets as the vessel moved sharply to the right while sinking.

However, it is unlikely to have lasted long as it would have been “small and quickly filled with rising levels of toxic carbon dioxide”.

The findings of the autopsies, detailed in La Repubblica on Wednesday, appeared to support this theory.

Among the victims examined so far were Jonathan Bloomer, the international chairman of Morgan Stanley Bank; his wife Judith, a psychotherapist; Christopher Morvillo, a US lawyer; and his wife Neda, a jewellery designer.

Previous reports suggested Mr and Mrs Morvillo, whose autopsies were carried out first, both died by drowning .

But post-mortems have found the lungs of the four people were “not fully of water”, which is otherwise known as “dry drowning”.

La Repubblica reported Ms Barcares, who is also the CEO of the company that owns the superyacht, made it to the deck barefoot but only thought about saving her daughter and her husband trapped below.

As the boat reared up, she cut herself on broken glass and was unable to reach the cabins and help Mr Lynch and their daughter Hannah before the electrical blackout on the Bayesian.

For a week after the sinking, she said she could not walk because of the lacerations to her feet.

Autopsies on Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah are scheduled for Friday

The remaining autopsies, on Mr Lynch, his daughter, and chef Recaldo Thomas, are scheduled for Friday, the newspaper added.

Nine crew members and six passengers, including Mr Lynch’s wife, survived by escaping on an inflatable life raft.

Prosecutors have launched an investigation into the yacht’s captain, New Zealander James Cutfield, along with two Britons - engineer Tim Parker Eaton and crew member Matthew Griffiths - over allegations of possible manslaughter and culpable shipwreck.

Mr Parker Eaton denied claims that external doors were left open during the storm, which reportedly allowed water to flood the engine room.

According to Italian news agency Ansa, Mr Griffiths - who was on watch duty at the time - told investigators: “I woke up the captain when the wind was at 20 knots (23 mph/37 kph). He gave orders to wake everyone else.

“The ship tilted and we were thrown into the water. Then we managed to get back up and tried to rescue those we could.

“We were walking on the walls (of the boat). We saved who we could, Cutfield also saved the little girl and her mother.”

The men have been permitted to leave Sicily as investigators work to piece together the crucial events that unfolded in the 16-minute window between the yacht being hit by a suspected “downburst” storm at 3.50am and its rapid sinking at 4.06am, just 400 metres from its anchorage near the Sicilian port of Porticello.

Being investigated does not imply guilt and does not mean formal charges will follow.

Crew members on Mike Lynch yacht tell of moments it sank off Sicily

ROME (Reuters) -Crew members on Mike Lynch's yacht have spoken of the moments when a storm sank the vessel off Sicily and their efforts to help save passengers, after a disaster that killed the British tech tycoon and six other people.

Matthew Griffiths, who was on watch duty on the night of the disaster two weeks ago, told investigators that the crew members did everything they could to save those on board the Bayesian, according to comments reported by Italian news agency Ansa on Saturday.

Griffiths, the boat's captain James Cutfield, and ship engineer Tim Parker Eaton have been placed under investigation by the Italian authorities for potential manslaughter and shipwreck. Being investigated does not imply guilt and does not mean formal charges will follow.

"I woke up the captain when the wind was at 20 knots (23 mph/37 kph). He gave orders to wake everyone else," Ansa quoted Griffiths as saying.

"The ship tilted and we were thrown into the water. Then we managed to get back up and tried to rescue those we could," he added, describing the events of the early hours of Aug. 19, when the Bayesian had been anchored off the Sicilian port of Porticello.

"We were walking on the walls (of the boat). We saved who we could, Cutfield also saved the little girl and her mother," he said, referring to passenger Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter. In all there were 15 survivors of the wreck.

Cutfield exercised his right to remain silent when questioned by prosecutors on Tuesday, his lawyers said, saying he was "worn out" and that they needed more time to build a defence case.

Before this, Cutfield gave a similar description to Griffiths' to investigators, according to comments reported on Sunday by Italian daily Il Corriere della Sera.

Cutfield said the boat tilted by 45 degrees and stayed in that position for some time, then it suddenly fell completely to the right, the newspaper reported.

Parker Eaton had not previously commented on the investigation. On Sunday, Il Corriere quoted him as saying that all doors and hatches were closed when the storm hit the boat, except one giving access to the engine room.

That door was located on the side opposite to the tilting and so could not be a factor causing the sinking, he said.

Prosecutor Raffaele Cammarano said last week that the vessel was most likely hit by a "downburst", a very strong downward wind.

The sinking has puzzled naval marine experts, who said a vessel like the Bayesian, built by Italian high-end yacht manufacturer Perini, should have withstood the storm and, in any case, should not have sunk as quickly as it did.

Prosecutors in the town of Termini Imerese, near Palermo, have said their investigation will take time, with the wreck yet to be salvaged from the sea.

Sicily Yacht Tragedy: Autopsy Reveals Passengers Christopher and Neda Morvillo Drowned Together

After a superyacht in sicily sunk, six passengers’ bodies were recovered. now, christopher morvillo and neda morvillo’s cause of death has been revealed. .

New details continue to surface about the Sicily superyacht tragedy.

More than a week after a luxury yacht sank off the coast off the Italian city Aug. 19, spouses Christopher Morvillo and Neda Morvillo were confirmed to have died of drowning together, Italian news organization ANSA confirmed via autopsies Sept. 2.

Christopher and Neda—who were reported missing alongside along with British tech magnate Mike Lynch , his daughter Hannah , Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Judy Bloomer had been missing until Aug. 22—exhibited “no signs of trauma,” ANSA reported of the autopsy conducted by Antonella Argo, and there are “no other causes linked” to their deaths.

The remaining autopsies of the passengers have yet to be conducted. Jonathan and Judy’s autopsy will be performed on Sept. 4, while Michael and his daughter’s autopsy, as well as cook Recaldo Thomas —whose body was found Aug. 20—have not been assigned.

There were 22 people in total—12 guests and 10 crew members—aboard the 184-foot Bayesian prior to its Aug. 19 sinking. The incident, which has been described by maritime experts as anomalous, occurred at around 5 a.m. local time due to harsh weather conditions, including a waterspout, Salvo Cocina of Sicily's civil protection agency told NBC.

Cocina told reporters of the event, “They were in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

The captain of the ship, James Cutfield , is now under investigation for manslaughter, his lawyer confirmed to NBC News. He has yet to be charged with any crime, and the investigation does not suggest that any charges will follow.

Meanwhile, Giovanni Costantino , the founder and CEO of The Italian Sea Group who built the superyacht in 2008, emphasized the tragedy occurred because of an “endless chain of errors from the crew.”

"It was all predictable,” he told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera Aug. 21, in an interview translated from Italian. “I have the weather charts here in front of me. Ask yourself: why were no fishermen from Porticello out that night? A fisherman reads the weather conditions and a ship doesn’t? The storm was fully legible in all the weather charts. It couldn't have been ignored.”

Now, the families and friends of the seven who died are mourning the immeasurable losses.

"She is my little angel, my star," Hannah’s older sister Esme , whose mom Angela Bacares was among the 15 survivors, shared in a statement obtained by Sky News. "She had even more love to give endlessly to all her friends and passion to give to her incredible studies and goals."

Esme also recalled heartfelt memories with her sister—who was set to attend Oxford University in the fall—noting she’d often “burst” into her room with a smile to lay down with her or ask for advice.

“No matter what, she brought boundless love to me,” Esme continued. “She was endlessly caring, passionately mad, unintentionally hilarious and the most amazing, supportive and joyful sister and best friend to me.”

Superyacht captain says he did everything possible to save those on board - reports.

Divers of the Vigili del Fuoco, the Italian Corps. of Firefighters arrive in Porticello harbor near Palermo, with a third body at the back of the boat on August 21, 2024, two days after the British-flagged luxury yacht Bayesian sank. Divers searching for six missing people following the sinking of a superyacht off Sicily in a storm have found four bodies, a source close to the search told AFP. The Bayesian, which had 22 people aboard including 10 crew, was anchored some 700 metres from port before dawn when it was struck by a waterspout. Among the six missing were UK tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah, and Jonathan Bloomer, the chair of Morgan Stanley International, and his wife Judy. The captain of a superyacht that sank off the coast of Sicily , killing seven, says he did everything possible to save those on board, according to local media.

New Zealander James Cutfield was at the helm of the Bayesian when it went down in August during a storm.

British tech magnate Mike Lynch, the yacht's owner , and his teenage daughter Hannah were among those killed.

Cutfield is now under investigation by Italian authorities for manslaughter and shipwreck, along with two other crew members.

Being investigated does not imply guilt and does not mean formal charges will follow.

Cutfield was now suffering through the darkest days of his life, sources close to him told the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera .

He had repeatedly insisted that he did not abandon those on board, they said - he did everything possible to save them, but the vessel took on too much water.

Cutfield's brother-in-law Mark described him to Corriere Della Sera as a "very experienced" sailor who was highly respected by his colleagues.

Another sailor, who saw Cutfield just before the sinking, told the newspaper he had not expected the storm to blow in.

Meanwhile, Bayesian crew member Matthew Griffiths, who was on watch the night the yacht sank, has told prosecutors that Cutfield rescued a "little girl and her mother" from the wreck.

The pair were later found floating on a life raft.

Griffiths said he woke Cutfield up when the wind reached 20 knots, and the captain gave the order to wake all the other people on board, Italian news agency Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata reported Griffiths as saying.

Shortly afterwards, the yacht "tilted" and fell into the water, Griffiths was reported as saying.

He described walking on the walls as the yacht lay on its side.

Post-mortem examinations would be carried out on some of the victims on Monday (local time), the news agency reported.

Earlier, Oceanlaw New Zealand partner Karyn van Wijngaarden told RNZ the manslaughter investigation would take months at least .

"Prosecutors will be considering the events leading up to the sinking and whether or not it was a freak incident," van Wijngaarden said.

The weather on the day of the sinking, actions taken by the crew and how the vessel was run would all be looked at - a process that would take many months, van Wijngaarden said.

A further complication was that the Bayesian was at the bottom of "quite a considerable" volume of water , she said.

"Even just getting to it seems challenging."

Specialist divers launched a fresh search for six people, including UK tech tycoon Mike Lynch and the chairman of Morgan Stanley International, missing since their yacht capsized off the Italian island of Sicily. Prosecutors need to look at a range of factors, a process complicated by the fact the Bayesian is under "quite a considerable" volume of water.
