Safety and Equipment Is the boat safe and in good condition? Yes, the vessel is currently in survey with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), which requires comprehensive safety equipment standards and regular safety checks. A safety briefing is given to the charter passengers after embarking and safety gear will be provided if required. All vessels in our fleet are selected for safety, comfort, quality and cleanliness. We are proud to keep them this way. What is the maximum capacity of the boat? Although Sydney Sundancer is licensed to carry 70 passengers the owners restrict the number of guests accepted aboard to 50.  This restriction may be relaxed in certain circumstances, consult your charter advisor who will liaise with the operator. Please note, an infant, regardless of age is considered a passenger. Is the boat suitable for children? Yes, Sydney Sundancer is suitable for children appropriate sized lifejackets lifejackets are available on request. Children must be under adult supervision at all times. What toilet facilities are on board? Sydney Sundancer is equipped with two modern, spacious marine toilets with easy access for charter. Catered Food Options Can we organise a meal on board? Yes, we can recommend some excellent caterers for you where we can design the perfect menu to suit your budget and taste. BYO Catering Are we allowed to bring our own food and drinks? Yes, we suggest that you bring boat friendly food that requires minimum preparation e.g. platter-style cold foods or we can provide a barbeque. Is there a BBQ on board? Yes, there is a BBQ on board. Do I have to wash up the dishes? No! Sit back and relax and the crew will do that for you. Do we need to bring ice for the cooler / esky? Yes. On Tour Can we have music on board? Yes, the vessel is equipped with a sound system where you can plug in a music compatible device like an iPhone. Please ensure your mp3 player is fully charged. Where can we go during our charter? Your skipper can take you most places within Sydney Harbour, providing it is within the surveyed boundaries. Should your guests wish to go to a specific location within Sydney Harbour please let us know at time of briefing. Can we extend our charter time during the charter? Yes, although this is subject to availability. Please note, the charter will be extended if there is not another charter following and if the whaft is not pre-booked and payment will be processed post charter by authorised bond. Booking and Payment How do I secure my booking? A minimum 50% deposit is required to confirm booking, with the balance payable 14 days prior to commencement of the charter. Upon payment of your deposit, a Skippered Charter Contract will be emailed to you, confirming details relevant to your charter, which must be signed and returned. Payment can be made by MasterCard, Visa, EFTPOS, Electronic Funds Transfer or cash. Diners Card, Bankcard and Cheques are not accepted. Is there any paperwork to complete before we go on our charter? Yes, we require your signed contract and authorised bond form prior to your charter commencing. Cancellation If I cancel the charter, can I get a refund? We do not offer refunds should you wish to cancel your charter. If boating conditions are unsafe, as determined by the management of Sydney Harbour Escapes, we will offer a six month voucher where you can reschedule your charter based on availability. Please see our General Booking Information on our website or contact a staff member on 02 9328 4748 for details. Preparations and Arrival What do you advise we bring along for our charter? As conditions can vary on the water, it is suggested that you bring along a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, swimmers, and seasonal jumper or jacket. Please wear white-soled shoes or non-marking boating shoes. Strictly no black soled shoes or stiletto-heeled shoes, as this will damage the decking. Does our party need to get there before the set time of the charter? All your party should be at the designated pick up point at least 15 minutes prior to your charter time to allow loading of passengers and gear and to enable enough time for the skipper's safety briefing. Please note, our charter will start and finish at the times on your contract. Can one of our guests be picked up late and dropped off early from another wharf? Multiple pick up and drop off points are not recommended as this will shorten your charter time significantly. We suggest that guests wishing to join the charter late or leave early should arrange alternative transportation via water taxi at their own cost. FAQS FOR SYDNEY SUNDANCER

Yes a few, and guests are welcome to BYO toys and we do have an electric pump which they are welcome use to inflate. Guests are responsible for inflating and then later deflating "blow up toys" before returning to the wharf.

Smoking or vaping is permitted ON DECK ONLY, and preferably down wind from other guests. Absolutely no smoking or vaping below decks. We do provide ashtrays which must be used at all times. Absolutely no ash or butts are to be discarded into the harbour!

We have the very latest Fusion system with Fusion Wake tower speakers 4 x twin sets of speakers aboard. Two on the aft deck, 2 on the main mast and 2 in the cockpit. all individually controlled. There are another two the saloon area. We have an iPod with over 3,500 songs, guests iPhones and androids can be connected directly to our system or via Blue Tooth.

Yes, Sydney Sundancer allows both BYO and fully catered cruises.

Charterer is to provide plastic drinking utensils, plastic plates and knives & forks for all guests. By prior arrangement, the following are available on board : unlimited top quality glasses $2.00 per person, Natural Panaa plates (made of palm) $1 per person and stainless steel cutlery $2.00 per person (for all catering equipment the total cost is $4 per person) Large platters are available at no charge.

There is very little room for storing food in our fridge. However you are welcome to place any food that needs to be chilled in the supplied eskies. We have 3 eskies : 2 decent size (larger than the usual eskies you take on a picnic in the country) and one huge esky that holds 2 slabs of beer and about 18 bottles of wine)! In addition, we have 2 white plastic garbage bins (70 litre size) that can be used as a backup. All are located on deck for easy access.

Yes there is a medium sized barbeque but YOU are responsible for the cooking / barbequing and all handling of food and drink when self – catering, Best for the charterer to call us prior to the charter for advice and discuss what they intend to cook 7 days before the cruise as certain food are not permitted.

No guests must bring their own water for BYO charters

Yes guests can BYO spirits but the charterer is responsible for advising all guests that Sydney Sundancer is a licensed premises. Therefore, all laws relating to alcohol consumption remain in force even though your guests have brought their own drinks. Any decision made by the captain regarding intoxication will be made in the best interests of safety and the enjoyment of the remainder of the ships company. By law, the captain is responsible and his decision final.

The downstairs galley is for crew use only.

Absolutely. We have extensive menu options for you and your guests to choose from, so all tastes and dietary requirements are catered for.

Guests will be pleasantly surprised by the open air deck, that wraps all around the upper level. Ample seating is provided around the entire top level deck that can be sheltered by the hard canvas cover (upon request). A true sailing experience that requires no actual expertise.

No ice is not provided. Charterer must BYO ice. We suggest 1 KG per guest and definitely to bring their drinks aboard cold. We have three eskies for your use plus extra bins for large numbers.

Yes, providing the DJ's equipment is not too large and they bring their own equipment. Charterer is reminded that when we are at anchor in most of the bays, a Code of Conduct legislation comes into being preventing loud amplified music being played close to land and houses. However, when cruising in the middle of the harbour, music can be louder. Please check with us to ensure your DJ will be suitable for our yacht well prior to the charter, especially if you have more than 40 guests aboard. Please note that the DJ will need to be included in the guest count and to be made aware upon booking the DJ, that these new laws exist and that they must abide by them.

Yes swimming is allowed. Just bring your own towels. We have a very large swimming platform at the rear of our yacht with a long ladder making it very easy to get in and out of the water.

We have a small gas stove with an even smaller two shelved oven underneath, it is really only suitable for re-heating already cooked food. If used, there will need to be someone in galley the whole time the oven is in service (for safety). Whilst they are on duty in the galley, they may feel very isolated from the fun everyone else is having up on deck because no drinks are permitted to be taken below deck. If clients want to use the oven (internal dimensions are 370mm wide by 400mm deep and the vertical distance between shelves is 90mm), I suggest they use appropriately sized tin foil baking trays. Using the oven to re-heat food is quite time consuming especially for large groups.

Multiple wharf options are available in Sydney harbour. Please ask us at the time of booking.

A full rain cover can be brought out if necessary which provides shelter for all guests onboard.

Please be advised that black rubber soled shoes, stilettoes, or high wedged shoes are not permitted to be worn on board.

You'll find Sydney Sundancer located in the Hamilton Island Marina, where you'll board around midday (exact time will be given closer to departure). Visit Exclusive Snorkelling Locations

During the next few days you will be visiting exclusive locations on the Great Barrier Reef. Sydney Sundancer is lucky enough to hold a year-round 'Long Range Roving Permit' which means the vessel has permission to visit remote locations that most of the boats in the Whitsundays aren't able to go to. Take advantage of the large swimming platform off the back of the yacht and dive into the deep blue as you come face-to-face with the magnificent array of marine life that live beneath the surface. Your onboard Master Reef Guide will be there to show you around and answer any questions about the reef. Keep an eye out for green sea turtles, giant clams, manta rays, friendly reef sharks, and more!

Whitehaven Beach is one of the top beaches in the world and (weather depending) you'll spend time there. Known for its shiny silica sands and crystal clear waters, you will feel like you are in absolute paradise! Another iconic location you'll visit will be Hill Inlet Lookout. To reach the top you'll follow an uphill path through tropical bush and find yourself looking over the swirling silica sands below. This is where you won't want to forget your camera as the panoramic views will take your breath away.

Passengers should note that adventure travel involves risk. Whilst we make every effort to safeguard guests, we cannot be responsible for any damage, personal injury or loss due to the actions of passengers that are beyond our control.

Any person who may be pregnant, suffer from back, neck or heart conditions, or have conditions that may cause a risk to their health, must notify Whitsundays Private Charters or the Master of their vessel prior to departure.

Prior to departure for snorkelling or other activities, all adult passengers may be required to sign an Assumption of Risk Form. Minors require a parent or guardian to sign this form prior to departure. This Assumption of Risk Form is part of our terms and conditions of passage.

Passengers agree to disclose any pre-existing medical condition or any other condition that may cause the passenger to suffer injury or aggravate a pre-existing medical condition during the charter.

At certain times of the year ‘dangerous’ jellyfish inhabit these waters. Passengers entering the water do so at their own risk

Your Responsibilities:

Please advise us before booking if any passengers are under 18 years old to ensure this is the appropriate trip. 

You must reconfirm all booked tours prior to travel as specified on your voucher. If applicable, notes such as dietary requirements, pick-up locations and additional fees should also be confirmed at this time. Reconfirmations cannot be actioned through Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel, and must be done so directly through the Service Operator as specified on each ticket.

It is your responsibility to notify us of ticket discrepancies. Please read through the details on your voucher thoroughly to ensure all details such as passenger names, ages and dates of travel on vouchers are correct.

It is the responsibility of all passengers travelling to advise both your travel agent at the time of booking and vessel check-in agent before boarding of any medical conditions including food allergies you may suffer from.

You need to allow adequate time to check-in prior to the specified departure time. 

Prices/Extra Costs:

All prices are stated in Australian dollars and include GST. Surcharges over peak holiday seasons may apply. 

The Service Operator reserves the right to alter prices and extra costs. Extra costs may include EMC fees, Stingersuit/Wetsuit Hire, Luggage Storage, Insurance, Linen Hire, National Park Fees, Fuel Levies, Dietary Fees, etc. Bonds may also apply.

We will also endeavour to communicate these extra costs with you at the time of booking, and on your ticket. However, it is your responsibility to confirm which (if any) additional costs apply with each Service Operator upon reconfirming your trip.

Travel Risk/Insurance:

It should be noted that adventure travel involves risk. Whilst we make every effort to safeguard clients, we cannot be responsible for personal injury or loss due to the actions of our clients which are beyond our control. We highly recommend that all clients have travel insurance covering illness, injury, loss or damage to personal belongings and not being able to travel on the confirmed date of departure. You should also ensure your travel insurance will cover special circumstances including weather events preventing guests from travelling to their tour departure destination and cancelled flights due to unforeseen circumstances. 

Merchant Fees:

Please be aware operators pass on credit card merchant fees so there is a non-refundable 1% surcharge for VISA and MASTERCARD card purchases.

All ticket/voucher reissues attract a $20 administration fee.

Open Date Vouchers / Gift Certificate:

Shipping Costs are in addition to the ticket price and will be added at check-out. Shipping costs are non-refundable and do not makeup part of the ticket value. 

E-Vouchers incur no shipping fees. You have 5 years to use the value of the voucher. Seasonal Price Rises will apply if travelling out the current seasons pricing. Vouchers can be exchanged for free up to the full value of the voucher excluding credit card fees and charges.

Cancellations

Client Cancellations:

All cancellations forfeit 25% of the recommended retail price (RRP) - not the discounted/sale price. Cancellations made 60-30 days prior to travel date forfeit 50% of the RRP. No shows or client cancellations made within 30 days of departure forfeit 100% of the total ticket price. 

Transfers between tours can be made at the suppliers discretion, however, it should be noted that supplier fees may apply. Tour transfers also incur a $20 administration fee. 

It is compulsory that all cancellation requests are in writing and sent via email to [email protected]. Cancellations attempted via online chat or phone will not be actioned.

Supplier Cancellations:

The Service Operator reserves the right to alter prices, alter itineraries, apply a fuel surcharge, cancel departures, arrange alternative transport and vary itineraries and services if necessary.

All departures and itineraries are subject to weather. Tours may be changed or cancelled for any reason at the discretion of the Service Operator. If the Service Operator has to cancel the trip or activity (prior to departure) and we cannot offer a suitable alternative, then a refund will be given minus a 20% administration fee and any associated card fees. We strongly recommend that you have travel insurance, especially during the wet season.

In the unlikely event of your trip being cancelled or stood down, all guest communication is required to go through our Online Store via telephone or email. While there is a Sailing Whitsundays retail outlet located Airlie Beach, please be aware that they operate as a separate entity and are unable to access reservations made by the Mr Travel online department.

All refunds are in Australian Dollars and must be made to the card of payment. Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel is not liable for exchange rate fluctuations or fees, or any other merchant/bank fees associated with domestic and/or international transactions.

Where a full refund is applicable, there is the option to transfer the whole cost of the tour to another tour or “Credit” to avoid the administration fee. A transfer fee of $20 will apply.

You will be emailed confirmation once the refund has been processed. Once the refund has been processed, it may still take time for the banks to clear the amount. Please allow 7-10 business days for the funds to clear into Australian accounts and up to 21 business days for international accounts.

Accountability/Misconduct:

All Service Operators have the right to provide client feedback and to cancel bookings based off of feedback from other Service Operators.

Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel will treat this as any normal client cancellation and therefore the cancellation fees stated in the Client Cancellation Policy will apply.

Sydney Sundancer has a superb reputation earned by owners John and Lynne, a husband and wife team. Lynne is also a superb chef and has created cook books so if you opt for catering you're in for an absolute treat.

Sydney Sundancer has a vast amount of space on board enabling up to a 70 guest capacity. However, John and Lynne recommend no more than 50 guests for personal comfort through adequate space. Should you have a smaller capacity the layout of Sydney Sundancer means it stills feel very comfortable and communal inside or out.

There is a full awning that protects guests in case of rain. Traditional teak is used throughout the spacious interior and all soft furnishings were luxuriously renewed in 2018. There are four sets of stereo speakers (with independent volume control) strategically located so that the whole deck can become one large dance floor.

Sydney Sundancer is a favourite for weddings and they cater for this really well. For more specific information around weddings get in touch. John & Lynne specialise in ensuring that guest charter expectations are exceeded and include free photographs of each cruise (supplied on USB stick on disembarkation). This incredible complimentary service is available not only for weddings, but all charters!

A magnificent micro expedition ship, built to enable discerning explorers to visit remote and remarkable locations in the utmost comfort. Although licenced to carry 50 day passengers, friendly owner hosts Lynne & John Boyce accept maximum 8 (live aboard) thus enabling them to personally introduce their guests to the wonders of nature, above & below the water.

Your friendly expert hosts, Lynne & John Boyce have more than 30 years experience exploring and sharing the Great Barrier Reef.  They designed their yacht to accommodate two couples in luxurious staterooms  that extend the full width of their ship.  Each stateroom has 3 portholes and an ensuite.  More guests can easily be accommodated making Sydney Sundancer ideal for family charters.  With parents accommodated in the staterooms at the bow & stern and children accommodated in generously sized beds, a private charter for two families, becomes a very affordable option.

“Play Toys” include kayaks, fishing gear, snorkeling equipment and a hydrophone (underwater microphone) so guests can to listen to the magical songs of the giant humpback whales as they communicate with each other.   “Sundance Kid”,  the aptly named catamaran dive tender with 60Hp outboard motor even has  A GLASS BOTTOM  making Sydney Sundancer  the first live aboard sailing vessel in the area to boast such a great facility.

But more importantly Lynne has been recognised by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority as a Master Reef Guide, a qualification they save for only the “Best of the Best”. She is always in the water with guests on every snorkelling excursion to ensure that they see & experience the very best of every reef visited. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) that administers every activity within the Marine Park has recognised Lynne & John to be a High Standard Tourist Operator (HSTO). Within the whole Marine Park which is half the size of Texas or roughly equal to the size of all the islands of New Zealand combined, there are only 10 live aboard, crewed charter boat operators that GBRMPA has recognised as HSTO businesses. For Lynne & John, teaching their guests about Australia’s most cherished natural icon, The Great Barrier Reef is the best part of their job. When asked what they consider is the most rewarding aspect of their stewardship, they immediately respond that the shared learning experience is a great family bonding experience especially when they have 3 generations of the same family aboard.

Lynne & John believe that fantastic food is the best accompaniment to the breathtaking wonders of nature they share with their guests.  So Lynne has published a cook book (in response to decades of requests from delighted charterers) entitled “Gourmet Sailing….Delicious Dining on the Great Barrier Reef & other delights” which will give you an appreciation for both the meals served and the daily adventures experienced. You can view this cookbook on line  BUT a word of warning : do not open this book on an empty stomach else you will become instantly ravenous…..

Departure on day one is from Hamilton Island Marina once everyone has arrived (usually mid afternoon) & return is usually late morning (but can be earlier than 9am if anyone is on the early flight to Cairns).  Once under way there is no need to return to Hamilton Island because Sydney Sundancer is a real expedition ship capable of extended voyaging but your skipper will ensure that each overnight anchorage is so calm that long stemmed wine glasses are safe on the dining room table.  In the morning you can go snorkelling over colourful corals accompanied by friendly fish before breakfast, and your day just gets better from there!

It’s hard for visitors to choose from so many vessels operating in the Whitsunday’s, but we believe, as a husband and wife team who are extremely passionate about the area, that we offer our guests a very very special experience. We have explored much of The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park in our quest to discover the best locations for appreciation of nature both above and below the water. We love to welcome guests aboard our “floating home” and personally introduce them to the wonders of the Whitsunday’s, because we consider this to be the most magical location in the whole Marine Park. For more than 30 years, we have been guiding our guests on the uninhabited islands, in the inter-tidal zone and below the surface in this water wonderland. Your hosts Lynne & John Boyce designed and built  “Sydney Sundancer”  as a ketch rigged motor sailing yacht, thus combining the grace and serenity of a sailing yacht with the stability and comfort of a motor boat. There is just so much deck space that  “Sydney Sundancer”  is licensed to carry in excess of 70 guests (plus crew) but your hosts prefer to limit the number of guests to a maximum of 50 to ensure everyone’s personal comfort at all times (through adequate space).

John & Lynne consider  “Sydney Sundancer”  to be their “floating home” so they engaged highly skilled shipwrights to luxuriously fit out their yacht’s interior to the highest standards for international chartering. And to ensure guests comfort at all times, John designed a special canopy (that extends virtually the whole length of the boat) to protect against the elements.
