Station 6 | Hayama Marina International Friendship Regatta 2019
May 18, 2019
Kanto | Hayama Town
The partnership between the Hayama Marina Yacht Club and the Société Nautique Montreux Clarens has been celebrated on May 18, 2019, on the occasion of the International Friendship Regatta 2019 in Hayama.
Five years ago, as part of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Japan, a partnership agreement was signed in Montreux between the Hayama Marina Yacht Club and the Société Nautique Montreux Clarens. On 18 May, upon invitation from Mr. Hiroto Arakawa, Chairman of the International Friendship Regatta, and Mr. Tsuneo Ishiwata, Chairman of Keikyu Corporation, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Japan, Jean-François Paroz and a team of the Embassy of Switzerland were present in Hayama for the International Friendship Regatta 2019. The Swiss sailors finished at an honorable fourth place.

The International Regatta was a pleasant opportunity to hold the sixth station of the Grand Tour of Switzerland in Japan, on the road to the Tokyo 2021 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Hayama Marina Yacht Club, located South of Tokyo, has been established in 1964 to host the sailing competitions of the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games. The sailing competitions of the Tokyo 2021 Games will take place in the same region, in Enoshima.

Yachting Near the Summer Home of the Imperial Family
Hayama is a small resort town about 50 km outside of Tokyo. Its pleasant climate and well-appointed marina make it popular with high-end vacationers. Hayama is also the birthplace of Japanese yachting. Yachts fill Hayama Marina, some of which offer tours. Marina tours are affordable, and there are also reasonably priced shops and restaurants in the area.
Cruise around Sagami Bay
Boat tours of nearby Sagami Bay can be reserved for 3,000 yen. On these scenic voyages, you can see several islands, bays, and beaches. There are many photogenic locations, such as lighthouses and traditional red torii gates, on several of the islands.
Lunch at the Marina
The boat cruise includes a sushi lunch, but if there's still room for more, the marina restaurants serve up local shiitake mushrooms and Hayama beef.
How to get there
Head to Shin-Zushi station on the Keikyu Line. From the south exit, take bus no. 2 bound for Hayama Isshiki. Get off at Hayama Marina stop.
