Our award winning instructors can take you from greenhorn to skipper in just a few days when you sign up for a PowerTime Membership.

Our Innovative management program

Our ownership program reduces overall expenses by at least 50% and is customized to meet your individual goals. If you want to own a new Beneteau and are interested in doing it in a more financially responsible way, PowerTime ownership is for you.

Allow our professional staff to take care of all ownership task like insurance, maintenance, slips, cleaning, etc. while you enjoy using the boat on a regular basis alongside a steady income to offset many of the cost.

Get The Most Time on The Water

At PowerTime San Diego members will enjoy the most time on the water for the least amount of money. It’s simple, choose a fractional membership to a specific boat in our fleet (sail and power) and after professional instruction and orientation aboard your new boat, you’re ready to use our exclusive web based scheduler to start boating. Book a PowerTime up to a year in advance or be spontaneous and book a trip just a few minutes before getting to the boat. No matter when, your boat is ready when you are!

With onsite deli, pool, bathrooms, fuel dock, and pump out station, boaters have everything they need for a great day on the water. Catalina Island is well within range for most of our fleet and makes a great setting for a long family vacation.

The BoatUS foundation utilizes the National Safe Boating Council’s (NSBC) curriculum (unless noted otherwise). The Boat Control On-Water Training course content conforms to the American National Standard (ANSI) for on water skills as verified through an independent third-party assessment process. The course curriculum includes 4 modules; each module is approximately 3 hours of on-water instruction.

Recreational Powerboating: Affordable 3-Hour Courses Begin January 22

SAN DIEGO, December 9, 2021 – Boating in San Diego is rated among the best in the nation, but if you have no boating experience how do you begin? A new partnership between San Diego based  Boater U  and the national nonprofit  BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water  makes it easy with a series of affordable three-hour powerboating courses for beginners as well as experienced boat operators.

Beginning January 22 and taught comfortably aboard Boater U’s 20-foot twin engine RIB training vessel, each three-hour course is priced at $175 and will be offered on Shelter Island at 2367 Shelter Island Drive. Courses offered include Introduction to Powerboating, Precision Docking & Boat Handling, Open-Water Boat Handling, and Open-Water Advanced Maneuvering. Signup can be found at  BoatUS.org/sandiego .

Class size is limited to four students per vessel, ensuring each student gets sufficient time at the helm under the watchful eye of a U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captain certified to teach the National Safe Boating Council modular curriculum. The minimum age to participate is 16 years old, and training follows all COVID safety protocols. Early registration is encouraged, and there is a three-person minimum for courses.

Boater U is a part of the maritime training company  Training Resources Maritime Institute  (TRLMI), the largest maritime training center on the West Coast.

“We are excited to partner with BoatUS Foundation to offer boaters great training options for increasing their skills and becoming safer on the water,” said Dave Abrams, CEO of Boater U. “BoatUS Foundation is a recognized leader in the development and promotion of boating safety programs, and we are thrilled that they have chosen us to be their training partner.”

Alan Dennison, program supervisor for BoatUS Foundation added, “The Boater U program has had great success so it seemed natural to partner with them to offer our training options on the West Coast. We expect to grow this program significantly in the years ahead.”

SAFE POWERBOAT HANDLING

This course is designed to teach fundamentals of safe powerboat handling for first time skippers or boaters looking to improve skills. Using classroom discussions and on-the-water practical application, the topics that are covered include power boat handling skills, trailering, basic navigation, troubleshooting, and much more.  Students who successfully complete the course and the written test will receive a US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling Certification and be eligible for the California Boater Card.
