Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club

Founded in 1890, the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club isone of the largest yacht clubs in the world. It was the only Hong Kong club that kept the €œRoyal€ in its title post-handover, although its Chinese name is simply the Hong Kong Yacht Club. Unsurprisingly, membership is contingent on an interest in rowing or sailing.

The club offers sailing courses to non-members, though priority is given to members. Sitting under the umbrellas on the terrace of its Middle Island clubhouse is surely one of the most relaxing spots in Hong Kong. Junior memberships at a reduced fee are also available.

Short-term memberships have no entrance fee but a higher monthly charge applies. To be eligible you must be over 29, demonstrate experience and active participation in sailing or rowing and confirm that you expect to reside in Hong Kong for no more than two years. Short-term membership cannot be extended, and may only be enjoyed once.

Facilities: Sailing, rowing, dragonboating, moorings, berths (Shelter Cove), restaurants; Kellett Island has four restaurants, a swimming pool, bowling alley, squash courts and hardstands.

Entrance fees: $91,800 (ordinary single), $137,700 (ordinary married) to $2,250,000 (corporate nominee).

Monthly fees: vary up to $2,130, according to membership type (including building levy and minimum food and beverage charge).

Slip on your Sperry’s and sling your jacket over your shoulder—this is the place to be for yachties and rowers alike. At each of the club’s three waterfront locations, you can enhance your skills with a variety of courses or rent the club’s dinghies at your leisure

 Once you are back on dry land, schmooze with like-minded individuals as you sip on specially curated and subsidised wines.

There are plenty of other facilities for landlubbers too, including restaurants, a bowling alley, gym, pool and squash courts. 

Wine and dine: There are an array of dining establishments, including fine dining at the Compass Room, casual coffee shop fare, a bar and deck, and BBQ and a-la-carte dining at Middle Island and Shelter Cove.

For the family:  This is a great place to encourage your mini-me’s love of the water with fantastic courses starting from the age of 6.

Little non-sailors have been kept in mind throughout each location too, with playrooms, playgrounds, pool parties, board games and other fun things for them to do.

Joining and Membership Fee: For the cheapest fees, you’ll need to prove your experience in sailing or rowing and show your willingness to participate in activities with the club.

For ordinary membership, you’ll need a proposer from the club. Expect to wait between two to six weeks. 

An   ordinary single membership is HK$91,800 while an ordinary married couple membership is HK$137,700.

There's also an individual debenture membership at HK$1,875,000 and corporate nominee membership at HK2,250,000. Monthly fees range from HK$2,000 to HK $4,260.

• As a member of RCYC you are automatically a member of South African Sailing.
• The membership year runs from July to June.
• Pro rata fees apply from Aug.
• Cost of membership card - R150. This allows access to all areas and the Clubhouse, as well as members discount rates for the restaurant and the bar.
• Once you have been an Ordinary member of the Club for 6 months, you will receive a 10% discount when introducing and securing any new member to the Club.
• Club members can sign the same guest in to the Club six times a year.
• Free secure parking is available only to members.

• All persons wishing to join the Club must be proposed by an Ordinary or Honorary Life member and seconded by another, both must have been members for at least six months.
• Prospective applicants must ensure that they apply for the correct class of membership as detailed within the RCYC Constitution.
• Prospective members are to ensure that they are fully conversant with the RCYC Constitution and byelaws prior to application, as any person applying for membership shall be bound by the Constitution, rules and byelaws in force from time to time.
• Complete the Application for Membership form and hand or email this to the Membership Secretary by the 7 th of each month.
• Include two colour identity photographs with your application document. (Email copies are welcome)
• Your name and photograph will be placed on the Notice Board for the duration of your scrutiny period after which your application will be subjected to ballot by the General Committee for final acceptance.

All prospective members will be subject to the following Scrutiny periods: 

• Ordinary: three months
• Family (related to an ordinary existing member): one month
• Other class of membership: one month.

Any member having any information which he/she considers relevant to such application should bring this to the attention of the General Committee within the fourteen day period. During the scrutiny period you will be considered a Temporary Member of the RCYC. The Membership Secretary will advise you in writing of your status and a Temporary Membership Card will be issued to you by the Club Office.

On completion of your scrutiny period, the final approval of your full membership shall be vested in the Committee after which you will be balloted and recognised as a full membership of the Club.

No person residing within 15 kilometres of the Club premises shall be eligible as an Honorary, Temporary or Reciprocity Member of the Club except where:

• Such person holds a public office or is a bona fide candidate for membership or has conferred some special benefit upon the Club: Or
• By resolution of the Committee such person is allowed the privileges of membership while engaged in any competition.

Members elected to membership during a year will be liable for a  pro rata  share of the annual subscription as from the first day of the month in which they are elected to membership.

Membership is automatically cycled each year.

• If berthing a vessel upon RCYC moorings during the scrutiny period, vessel fees will be charged at non-member rates until the successful ballot. Applications for Mooring Rights will only be considered upon successful ballot of your membership application.
• Please advise the Sailing Department if you are interested in being a crew member on a yacht or if you require any other information regarding racing or cruising activities of the Club.
• Any craft introduced to the RCYC must have a valid “Certificate of Fitness”.
• Only those members in possession of a SAS Skippers Certificate (Issued by South African Sailing) are permitted to be in command of a boat being taken out to sea. Please communicate with the Club Secretary or SA Sailing regarding information that you may need with respect to the qualifications required.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Members enjoy full use of all Club facilities in and around our property, which are open seven days a week. Every member receives their own personal membership card and they can sign their guests in six times a year.

Members enjoy free access to regular club social events and weekly lucky draws, as well as cruising and racing events. You do not need to own a boat in order to sail, as there are always spaces available on other boats. The Club hosts a variety of social events, which you can access through our weekly newsletter, updated website and social media platforms. Members also receive preferential bookings and rates.

Free parking is available exclusively for members.

Free Wi-Fi is particularly useful during load-shedding – one of the great benefits of being in an operational Port, is that we do not have load-shedding at RCYC. It is a great office space for you to work from and we have different areas/private rooms ideal for holding meetings.

Royal Cape Yacht Club offers some of the best marina facilities in Southern Africa. An 18 ton crane and a 40 ton slipway allow easy access to the hard area, which is serviced by a number of top-class workshops, a chandlery and a laundry. Fully serviced walk-on moorings offer 24 hour security and access control. All within easy reach of the Club’s amenities and the popular V&A Waterfront.

Introductory Scheme

Membership path, individual debenture membership.

** The Introductory Scheme is currently fully subscribed, and NO new applications are being accepted until further notice.** The Club offers an introductory scheme for prospective members who are interested in the Club’s programmes and facilities but are uncertain about joining the Club.

The scheme provides prospective applicants for membership a one-time opportunity to experience for a limited time the benefits of membership without incurring entrance fees. The scheme is also designed to enhance prospective applicants’ ability to meet the ordinary membership admission criteria.

The scheme provides for a streamlined application process, requiring only one qualified sponsor. The key requirement is that candidates demonstrate a genuine and strong interest in pursuing the Club’s core sports activities. All applications will be considered by Membership Committee, which may require a candidate interview.

Key Features

• Rights : Participants will enjoy for 12 months all membership benefits and privileges apart from signing rights, voting rights, the entitlement to stand for election to elected committees, moorings, marina berths and hardstandings, and hiring the Club's rowing boats. The scheme will be available to participants and their family members only once and cannot be extended.
• Card and Payment : The Club will issue an Introductory Scheme Card to each participant which enables him or her to access the Club and to use the Club’s facilities. His or her spouse (legally married) and children up to the age of 18 can use the Club facilities only when accompanied by the participant. When purchasing food and beverage and paying for Club facilities, the participant must present his or her valid Introductory Scheme Card and use an Octopus Card for payment. The participant must always carry his or her Introductory Scheme Card when visiting the Club. Unmarried and married participants may bring 1 and 2 guests respectively to the Club. Thus, a participant may hold banquets at the Club provided that payment in advance.
• Mentor : Due to a strong demand for Mentors, the sponsor for the Scheme will now be the Mentor for his/her introduced participant. The mentor role is to introduce the participant to our sports programs and facilities, the relevant class secretaries / rowing team representatives, and like-minded members and to help identify the type and class of sport that might interest the participants. Alternatively, if a Participant is already familiar with the Club's activities and facilities, he/she may choose not to have a Mentor.
• Log Sheet  : Participants will be issued a log sheet with their application form to record their participation in rowing or sailing activities. They will also be given a guidance note explaining the next steps to become an ordinary member, highlighting how they should maintain their sailing or rowing activities in order to fulfil ordinary membership criteria. 
• Application Process  : Only one life, full or ordinary member is required to endorse the application. Participants will pay the following subscription fees during the trial period: married couple $3,360 per month and single $2,600 per month; and also a minimum food and beverage charge $515 per month per account. Half of the total subscription fee paid by the participants will be treated as an entrance fee down payment (approximately 10%) when applying for ordinary membership provided that a completed application for ordinary membership is submitted to the Membership Office no later than three months after the expiry of the Scheme.
• Deposit : A direct debit authorisation must accompany an application for the scheme (for payment of the monthly subscription). To secure payment of the monthly subscription the applicant must pay a refundable deposit equivalent to two months subscription (married couple $6,720; single $5,200) when an application is submitted. It is refundable after making any deductions for monies owed to the Club at the end of participation in the scheme or it may be applied as a credit towards the entrance fee.

Membership of the Royal Forth Yacht Club gives you access to great facilities, new friends and volunteer-organised events.

Membership includes:

• Club Points Race Entry - regular races are organised by the sailing committee throughout the summer season (there are also a number of chargeable cup races and regattas) with prizes including prestigious silver trophies engraved each year since the initial prize-giving. The year cumulates with the annual prizegiving and fireworks night in November.
• Club 'Round the Islands' Challenge - racing is not only for those 'hot shot racers' amongst you! Anyone, in any boat, can take part in our 'Round the Islands' challenge to take a passage around one of the nearby islands in the Firth of Forth, at a time convenient for you.
• Cruises in Company - join friendly members for a cruise in company, taking place throughout the summer season, almost always with a great lunch break over which to compare notes and share stories (inclusive of all the surprises Scottish weather can offer!).
• Rent a Club Boat - you don't have to be a boat owner to join the Royal Forth Yacht Club. We have two club squibs, which you can hire for a small fee per day. You might choose to race with the fleet of squibs we have in the club or to join a gentle cruise in company.
• Launch Service - unlimited service for boat owners and their guests (or those renting the club boats), to ferry you to and from your boat. Never again spend an hour inflating a dinghy, only to drop your jumper in the water before you've even left the harbour!
• Social Events - from a sit-down Christmas lunch with all the trimmings to a couple of hours talking tactics after a club points race, there's something for everyone. Events are all low-cost and organised by our very own Council. You won't be short of people to share a table with and perhaps even a dance or two at the Burns Night Supper. Members are very welcome to bring guests to the event or come alone to join their fellow members for a tipple. During the winter months enjoy enlightening winter talks covering a broad spectrum of entertainment/information.
• Access to the Clubhouse - our clubhouse in Granton Harbour has changing facilities, toilets and showers, a full-service bar and lounge serving teas and coffees, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages and even non-alcoholic gin!
• Access to the Club Crane - suitable for small day boats (e.g. a H Boat), we have our very own crane to lift in your boat, whether you want to lift in an out on your own schedule once per year or you want to dry sail. Our experienced launch operator even offers an assisted lift so you have an expert to guide you and take a share of the heavy-lifting, and a helping hand over to your swinging mooring.
• Access to Swinging Moorings and Pontoon Berths in Granton Harbour - the Harbour Committee maintain and fully service our swinging moorings in Granton Harbour, attached to a robust ground chain and with pick-up buoys. Members have the exclusive ability to rent these moorings on a seasonal basis. You also have the option of mooring up on the EML Pontoon, for which club members enjoy a much-reduced rate.
• Private Functions - members are able to hire our clubhouse and use our bar/catering facilities, for private functions for themselves and their guests at significantly cheaper rates than in town commercial venues.

One Membership, two homes

Built in 1922, the Island Clubhouse is your escape on the lake from May through October. The grandest wooden structure in Toronto and the scene of countless balls, banquets and memories, the Island Clubhouse boasts the finest views of the city skyline. Simply put? You haven’t seen summer in Toronto until you’ve experienced it with friends and family from the Verandah. At your City Clubhouse—located right next to the St. George subway station in the Annex—you’ll find fun and activities all year round. Our 5,000-square-foot Fitness Centre is home to one of the largest, most competitive racquets offerings in Canada, in addition to exercise options for Members of any skill level. Royal Yacht Club: all inclusive with Moscow residence permit

At the beginning of this summer, a significant event in the yachting industry took place in Russia: a new yacht club was opened in Moscow.

All the “bison” marinas near Moscow have received a worthy competitor in their ranks: Royal Yacht Club can offer everything, and even a little more. To find out everything for sure, our editors decided to go on a visit to the new water area.

A few tens of minutes - and here it is, the turn from the Leningradskoye highway, leading to the yacht club, located on the territory of the Dynamo water stadium. Right there you will find a fork in which you will have to decide on a difficult choice: the first-class Royal Yacht Club marina or the stunning Beach Club beach. It is no wonder if yacht lovers choose the first one, leaving their desire to lie down on a sun lounger for a little later. For about a couple of hours. That is how long the process of joining a new yacht club will take you, but to lie down on the aforementioned deck chair, but already on board your own yacht, knowing that you are still in Moscow, you must agree that this feeling is worth a lot. By the way, about prices. Their layout for this season is as follows: parking a yacht up to 9 meters will cost $ 4 per day per meter, and a vessel over 9 meters - $ 5. An important point is the fact that the water area has a great depth, from 2 to 8 meters, which will allow ships to moor even with a large draft.

Now a little about the appearance of the marina. Here everything is arranged very systematically. The first berth is designed for small boats, the rest - for those whose size is quite impressive - up to 30 meters. The yacht club can accommodate 190 vessels on its territory and currently has several dozen yachts on its territory. According to the management of the Royal Yacht Club, there is not such a large volume of rented places now due to the fact that in May (when yachtsmen acquire subscriptions for the whole summer) it was not yet clear when exactly this place would open, so most potential customers remained on the territory old bridgeheads of yacht harbors. However, walking around the marina, you can see guests from other yacht clubs looking around the property of the Royal Yacht Club with great interest with the clear intention of staying here in the near future. Actually, no one hides: most of the places are already being booked for the next season, since not everyone can pass by such a “tidbit”. To minimize the process of standing in traffic jams and afford a ship with a rather big draft, knowing that it will be possible to keep it within the boundaries of the capital - this, you see, is worth a lot.

Let's delve into the history of the place. The complex of the water stadium "Dinamo" was opened on the Leningrad highway in 1937. The author of this project is the famous architect Gennady Movchan. Initially, the water station looked something like this: there were three pools for swimming, diving and water polo on the territory. Spectator seats were located on reinforced concrete stands with a maximum capacity of three thousand people. A boathouse for academic courts was also built and several venues were organized for competitions in athletics, gymnastics and team sports. And, most importantly, even then there was a harbor for sailing and motor ships. However, as the years passed, the complex slowly but inevitably fell into disrepair. Having not been particularly damaged during the Great Patriotic War, the Dynamo water stadium has never been reconstructed for all the time. The only time it was redecorated was on the eve of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. Further, coups took place in the country, the commercialization of state property began, and the existence of the legendary water complex was forgotten. The harbor was biding its time. And it came in September 2005, when the owners of the (then future) Royal Yacht Club signed an agreement with the Moscow government and MGO Dynamo. The new time has come.

What is currently available on the territory of the Royal Yacht Club, besides the almost completely finished marina? Note that the harbor is equipped with electricity, cold water and Wi-Fi. A crane has been installed to lift yachts for winter storage. If you walk around the territory of the yacht club, you can see a large football field behind the marina - this is where they plan to store ships during the off-season. They will be wrapped in professional materials that will save your yacht from winter weather. Directly before the descent to the marina there is a three-story business center building with a total area of 3,300 square meters. Today, almost all of its space is given over to offices of yacht dealers. As you know, the 14th international exhibition “Boats and Yachts” will be held on the territory of the Royal Yacht Club from September 6 to 9 this year, which is notable for the fact that it will be possible to see almost the entire arsenal of yacht brands of the world, which other expositions cannot always boast of. It is expected that fully equipped booth houses will be installed along the marina itself, and some of the exhibition participants will be located directly on the water. At MIBS Autumn 2007, guests can expect a number of new products from leaders in the yachting business. A premiere is expected from Azimut Yachts in the person of the super-yacht Leonardo 98, on whose design Stefano Rigini and Carlo Galeazzi worked, a presentation of the new yacht of the 23M project from Laky Verf, there will also be a display of the first transatlantic mega-yacht built in Russia - Timmerman 45 and much more.

Works on the stands and the adjacent territory are in full swing. According to an agreement with the Moscow government, the stands will be preserved in their original form. Now they are being completely reconstructed using first-class materials. To the right and left of the stands are the outbuildings of Stalin and Beria, which by the next season will turn into luxurious apartments with fantastic views of the opposite bank (Pokrovskoye-Glebovo) and the park. Also in 2008, it is planned to open a restaurant near the stands with a total area of almost a kilometer.

Well, until the restaurant construction processes are completed, yachtsmen visit the partners of the Royal Yacht Club - the Beach Club beach complex. It is located on the other side of the aforementioned spectator stands. Note that this beach is of the highest level, which provides for a paid entrance, quality service and a restaurant open at any time of the year. Without leaving the borders of Moscow, you can touch the rest that many would envy: stretch out on a sun lounger, looking at the beautiful yachts, and smoke a hookah standing next to you on the sand from the Maldives.

Membership of the Royal Cork Yacht Club can be applied for by completing the attached Nomination Form and returning it to The Secretary, Royal Cork Yacht Club, Crosshaven, Co Cork or email it to Miriam McMahon in the Club the office, Miriam McMahon .

Nominations are first approved by the Executive Committee at its next meeting, and following a period on display for the members, are reviewed again at the following meeting at which any objections are considered. If no objections are received, the nominee is elected and the newly elected member receives a new members pack, access card, club rules book, invoice and general managers letter of welcome.

Mixed dinghies runs June, July and August.

Our mixed Dinghy Fleet comprises of the following

Regatta/Fun Fleet for 10yrs and upwards and is specifically for beginners and those new to sailing. 

Racing Fleet for 10yrs and upwards and is specifically for those with sailing experience, have some sailing courses completed and looking for extra time on the water.

Flipper Fleet for 7 – 9yrs and aimed at getting this younger group on the water, learning through fun and making new friends.

Cost per session – €15 per head

Adult Sailing

Adult sailing is open to adult club members only.

Adult Sailing will run May & September 2024 comprising of four session in May and four sessions in September

These sessions will run on Friday evenings from 18.00hrs – 21.00hrs
