Billionaire Clive Palmer has bought a $40million superyacht patriotically named 'Australia'.

The Queensland based mining tycoon has moored the 56m vessel in the Brisbane River with the international crew currently undergoing two weeks quarantine.

The yacht is an upgrade from his previous 35m Sunseeker $8million runabout, the Nancy Jean.

Mr Palmer bought the superyacht (pictured) previously named Bash in December for about $40million

Italian company Benetti created his new yacht in 2012, which has been previously named Bash and Ulysses.

Mr Palmer made the purchase in December after the 12 guest and 12 crew capacity vessel had been on the market since 2019.

The yacht includes two sundecks, an outdoor and indoor bar, a jacuzzi, a VIP suite with bridge deck views, and an owner's suite complete with an office, walk-in wardrobe, and private bathroom.

Mr Palmer - also the chairman of his United Australia Party - enjoys entertaining on his yachts along the Brisbane River, Gold Coast and Hamilton Island.

He's been splurging recently buying several luxury canal-front home on the Gold Coast and a $20million Sovereign Island mega-mansion.

As well as his mining businesses he owns a number of luxury golfing resorts along the Queensland Coast.

He is worth about $13billion, according the the Australian Financial Review.

His plans for the next federal election have also taken another step as he called for candidates to stand for his United Australia Party.

Mr Palmer says he has a significant war chest for his next tilt at Canberra, and claims his campaign will outspend the two major parties.

'I am encouraging our members to take the next step in creating a new era in Australian history by nominating to become an endorsed United Australia Party candidate for the 2022 Federal Election,' he said in a statement on Friday.

The UAP is calling for nominations for representatives in all states and territories to run for positions in the House of Representatives and the Senate.

'With a strong field of candidates and our tens of thousands of members behind us, we will do our very best to win the next Federal Election,' Mr Palmer said.

the-107-metre-explorer-yacht-ulysses-was-delivered-by-kleven-in-2016

From the archives: Inside 107m Andromeda, the toughest toybox on the water

In 2016 Graeme Hart took delivery of 107.4-metre Andromeda (then known as Ulysses ), a hardy, go-anywhere explorer capable of carrying a 21-metre multihull in the foredeck.  Eight years on and now under new ownership, Hart's vision lives on – albeit with a change of hull colour and new faring. In this 2016 deep dive from the BOAT International archives, Stewart Campbell gets a closer look at Andromeda .

There’s something wide-eyed and wonderful about Andromeda . If you put a bunch of 10-year-old kids in a room, dosed them up with sugar and told them to design a boat between them, I’d put good money on it coming out like this — and carrying the same sort of kit: six motorbikes, two ATVs, a helicopter, a twin-hulled 50-knot support boat, a Sealegs amphibious RIB and full-on landing craft. It’s a Tonka truck with a hull. It’s an iceberg-dodging, wave-crunching, mile-munching, ocean-eating, horizon-conquering monster.

The 107-metre explorer yacht  looks totally out of place the first time I spot her, anchored off genteel Cap d’Antibes, with not a snowy peak or dreamy atoll in sight. She’s a fair way off shore but still dominates the horizon. Eclipse is also in town but, from a distance, it’s hard to tell that the Blohm+Voss yacht is 55 metres longer than Andromeda , whose 6,000 gross tonnes and six decks tower above the waterline.

Her look, that toughest-kid-in-the-anchorage aesthetic, was a naked statement of intent from her commissioning owner, Kiwi billionaire Graeme Hart, and his close collaborator on the exterior styling, Kyle Dick, of OscarMike Naval Architects in New Zealand. “The portrayal of strength is not misleading,” says Hart. “It is what it is. Andromeda is a boat to be used. Everything about it is to be used. My theme with cruising is ‘no limits’.” Dick says they were going for “expedition style with real presence”. Job done on that score.

Andromeda was former owner Graeme Hart’s fifth superyacht (his sixth, the 116 metre Ulysses was delivered by Norweigan yard Kleven in 2018). His previous boat was the well-known, no-nonsense 58.5 metre Trinity yacht Ulysses , now called Grand Rusalina . And before that was a 49 metre Feadship now known as Teleost . Each jump up the chain demonstrates an attempt by Hart to achieve the perfect balance in a boat, which comprises three main elements, he says: seakeeping, volume and support.

“I’ve always strived to deliver the best seakeeping because, guess what, people can get pretty fragile in a Force 9 gale. Number two is volume because you want to bring friends and family and you don’t want 10 or 20 people clambering over each other. I remember building our 49 metre Feadship and it felt like we were building the Oriana ! But we soon found the volume limiting so went on to build a 1,000 gross tonne boat, and now Andromeda is a 6,000GT boat,” he says.

“The last element is support — and that’s about tender ops, activities and things like that. From day one in New Zealand we were brought up in an active boating lifestyle, but you can’t just pull up in a bay and sit there. What are you doing? Well, on Andromeda we have everything you possibly can do. If you want to put some bikes in the landing craft and go riding, then off you go. If you want to get the heli out and reconnoitre, then off you go. The whole suite of support activities is there."

Hart’s journey to find a shipyard that would be able to deliver on all three fronts took him far north, to the fjords of Norway and the little town of Ulsteinvik. There, he found Kleven Verft, a world leader in building offshore support vessels (OSVs). “What we learnt was that the real SUV of the sea was these OSVs that support the oil rigs — that was the big ‘ahhh’ moment. These are the guys that really understand how to build a vessel that’s intended to cope with any sea condition and provide maximum comfort, stability and safety.”

But first Kleven needed to be convinced to take on a project unlike anything that had come before it. “We needed to think through if this was right for us,” says Ståle Rasmussen, the yard’s CEO. “In the end it came down to the partners and how we were able to co-operate and work together – this is what shipbuilding is all about.”

The Andromeda dream team became: Kleven for construction; OscarMike, with heavy input from Hart, for the exterior styling and layout; Marin Teknikk for the naval architecture and London’s H2 Yacht Design for the interiors, working closely with Hart’s wife, Robyn. Outfitting, meanwhile, was done in Germany by Finnish company Europlan, which has a proud history of fitting out cruise ships but a very limited one working with superyachts. But then again, nothing was ordinary about this build.

“I love building and creating something that wasn’t there before,” says Hart. “There’s no replication. You’re not hitting a ‘I’ll have another one of those’ buttons. You’re creating something that hasn’t been done before, so it’s a journey.”

You get a sense of Andromeda ’s commercial roots when stepping on board, with the high door cills, unpolished welds and, of course, that unfaired hull. But it’s all contextual. If you were walking into a high-maintenance interior that cost €20,000 a square metre, it wouldn’t feel quite right.

The job of mellowing the unalloyed masculinity of Andromeda fell to Jonny Horsfield, of H2. “We went for light, pastel colours and a relaxed summer house feel inside,” he says. “We felt the concept of the yacht was to be a go-anywhere ‘superyacht’ rather than a basic functional explorer.

“We worked mostly with the interior contractor, Europlan, who were fast learners. For example, they expect a wall finish to be part of a panel system that can be repeated quickly across a large ship, but we explained that yacht interiors are made up of layers of finishes and they soon understood and adapted quickly.”

One of H2’s big inputs was to bring the spa and superyacht gym together at the rear of Andromeda ’s main deck, creating one large wellness centre. Horsfield also suggested relocating the cinema to the boat deck, where it joins a clubby saloon to form a more informal party area, complete with pool table and mirror-finish stainless steel bar.

Europlan really hit a high note with this unit, says Horsfield. “They are really comfortable with metal finishes and the bar was easy for them to produce.” Two areas where there was zero attempt to restrain the commerciality of the contractors — and to great effect —were the galley and bridge on Andromeda .

The former is a chef’s dream, offering immediate access to a big forward pantry, a huge island and enormous windows. It’s all on the same level as Andromeda ’s main dining areas, which are two separate spaces: one formal, with a long banqueting table, and a more informal canteen-like set-up.

The bridge, meanwhile: whoa. Visibility through those forward-leaning frames is outstanding and, such is their scale and height, they make everything else in the anchorage look like a bath toy. “The concept for the bridge on Andromeda was offshore support vessel pumped up with a bit of carbon fibre and teak,” says Captain John Brining. “I’ve worked on the biggest cruise ship in the world — and this is better.”

The entirely Rolls-Royce bridge is also Hart’s favourite part of Andromeda . “I love being up there, especially if we’re going into a new port or anchorage. You can sit in the lounge to starboard and have breakfast or lunch, or if we’re doing a sunset cruise we’ll sit there with a glass of wine. It’s a very social space but you’re not getting in the way. Just the elevation, the windows, the design – it’s an area you could happily spend a lot of time in.”

Space is a theme throughout. Guests, of which Andromeda can carry 36, each get very generous quarters, spread across three decks, with the choicest digs being the two VIPs on the boat deck, each with its own private superyacht balcony . The upper deck guest cabins also get some shared outside real estate. “That’s fabulous because for most guest cabins on yachts they’re looking out of a porthole. Some cabins are bigger than others but there’s no apology needed anywhere,” Hart says. The biggest cabin is naturally the owner’s – and it occupies an entire deck.

Unusually, the bedroom is rear-facing, overlooking a private aft terrace, while forward is a lounge and bar. Horsfield also designed all the exterior deck layouts and furniture, and he kept to the theme. “We tried hard to make sure the functionality of the exterior decks related to the concept of world cruising. The basic concept was: breakfast on the aft main deck, lunch and chilling on the aft pool deck and dinner on the upper deck.”

It’s worked out a little like that, says Hart. “We might have breakfast on the aft deck and evening drinks on the main deck. You go up to the sky lounge to play pool at night and have a pre-dinner cocktail. The pool deck serves two purposes: one as a daytime activity area but it’s also a great party environment at night. We got such a big [11 metre] pool because often, if you’re cruising in the South Pacific, sometimes jumping off the back of the boat is not always the best idea. And if Andromeda swings at anchor, suddenly you’ve got a 500 yard swim home.”

That’s if you’ve got time for swimming, because Andromeda has one big problem: you’re almost paralysed with choice. Housed in the well forward is a 21 metre foiling catamaran, known as U21, owned by the Harts for years, which is an independent cruiser in its own right. It can be craned off in just over an hour (“down from three,” the captain says proudly) and take parties fishing or exploring.

It’s the choice when you want to get up close and personal with nature, something Hart learnt the hard way. “We were in Alaska and went exploring in a RIB and by the time we got back to the boat we almost had hypothermia. If you’re in Alaska and you want to go exploring, you do it in U21!”

There are also two 14 metre Naiad RIBs housed on Andromeda’s boat deck that can be splashed in no time, as well as four sailing dinghies, four jet skis, the landing craft and amphibious RIB. But it’s what’s kept in the toy garage that will quicken the heart of anyone in touch with their inner 10 year old. Complete with sofa and access to a modest beach club, two brand new Harleys gleam next to the untouched Ducatis and zero-miles KTMs. The two ATVs sit temptingly, too.

“It all comes back to why you’re on the boat,” says Hart. “You’re on Andromeda to make the most of every single day. For some people that will mean sitting by the pool, but for others it will be taking out a motorbike or exploring in some remote area in the ATVs. You can bring the landing craft up alongside and in no time you’re off on land exploring or cruising. It’s just really cool to have a menu of things to maximise your experience.”

Andromeda comfortably ticks the support and volume boxes, then, but what about seakeeping? She hasn’t been tested yet in the wild, desolate seas of the high latitudes, but you get the impression that the huge flared bow will shrug off anything too testing. Captain Brining says the worst he’s encountered at the helm were 4.5 metre seas, which barely registered on the bridge.

Andromeda's a heavy unit – all steel and Ice Classed – so runs pretty flat, or as the captain puts it: “You’d have smashed the interior to pieces before you’d be worried about the ship.” Then, at anchor, the dynamic positioning can be engaged, the huge 13 square metre stabilisers flapping in tune with the bow thruster and azipulls to keep you dead still. The diesel-electric set-up also means that pristine anchorages will remain unspoilt by any chug, as Andromeda quietly slips out on batteries alone.

Then your only decision is what to do with the 8,500 nautical miles in Andromeda's ’ tanks. “Just fill it with fuel and food and she can go for months,” says Hart. “You just have to figure out what you want to do. There’s a big old world out there beyond St Tropez.”

This is home to the Great Barrier Reef, the world’s largest reef eco-system, offering unparalleled opportunities for sublime cruising and thrilling underwater discovery. Covering an area seven times larger than the United Kingdom, the possibilities in Queensland for superyacht charters are immense.

While the Great Barrier Reef stands out as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Queensland is also blessed with vibrant city experiences and sensational rainforest escapades, making this region a truly inexhaustible source of adventure. This is the all-encompassing destination for superyachts, ripe for luxury escapes and supported by world-class superyacht infrastructure. It is no wonder that so many superyachts choose Queensland as their base for exploring the South Pacific.

Great Barrier Reef & Whitsundays

The Great Barrier Reef is Australia’s most precious gift to the world and epitomises the adventurous spirit of superyacht charters. This yachting utopia stretches for 2,300 km along Queensland’s glorious coastline, and boasts over 3,000 individual reef systems and coral cays. For visiting superyachts, the sheer diversity of reefs provides experiences like no other. Divers and snorkelers revel in this underwater Eden, with over 600 types of hard and soft coral to uncover, along with 1,626 different species of fish to encounter.

There is no greater destination for barefoot island-hopping adventures than the Great Barrier Reef. Superyachts provide an opulent base from which to explore 600 continental islands, each glowing with its own unique natural landscape. In the northern region of the Great Barrier Reef, Lizard Island is a sumptuous luxury resort surrounded by mesmerising natural beauty. Lizard Island is a popular start or end point for a charter through the exhilarating ribbon reefs, with the delightful seaside town of Port Douglas at the other end.

Further south, The Whitsundays are one of the true yachting pleasures of the world, with 74 glorious white-sand islands surrounded by sparkling turquoise waters. This is the pinnacle of beach bliss and laid-back island glamour, where guests can either delve into the awe-inspiring waters or unwind in hedonistic resorts on Hamilton Island and Airlie Beach. The pristine natural surroundings of the Whitsundays offer an idyllic superyacht retreat, though the area is certainly packed full of adrenaline-pumping water sports activities. Some of the most enchanting dive and snorkel sites in Australia are found in the Whitsundays, and so too is the iconic Heart Reef.

City Thrills

Superyachts are welcomed into Queensland’s thriving cities, from the state capital of Brisbane up to the charming city of Cairns. These cities act as phenomenal bases to explore Queensland’s sun-drenched coastline and glistening cruising grounds, and they each offer something spectacularly unique.

Cairns is a major superyacht homeport for the Asia Pacific region, with close proximity to the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef but also to the South Pacific islands beyond. Here you will find fantastic superyacht facilities, exquisite restaurants and luxury hotels throughout the city which allow for a seamless transition to land. With no overbearing high-rise buildings, Cairns has the aesthetic of a quaint coastal town and its relaxing atmosphere enables guests to detach from the stresses of the outside world. Cairns offers fascinating on land activities to enhance your experience of Australia, notably the Daintree Rainforest and captivating Aboriginal tours.

In South East Queensland, Brisbane and the Gold Coast are well established as superyacht hotspots. Not only do they boast incredible infrastructure, but the surrounding area is filled with islands and secluded beaches to enjoy. The cosmopolitan city of Brisbane boasts a perfect balance between modern city luxuries and relaxing open green spaces, with an intriguing culture to immerse yourself in. Brisbane has a packed calendar of major sporting events, musical performances and cutting-edge theatre to explore, and there is also plenty of thrilling cruising opportunities in the surrounding area. Moreton Bay is a boating hub adored by locals and international visitors alike, while North Stradbroke and Fraser Islands also provide fabulous retreats where you can embrace the outdoors in a stunning setting.

The Gold Coast presents superyachts with the ideal balance of luxury city amenities and beach glamour. Its renowned tourist hub of Surfers Paradise is dotted with fine dining restaurants and lively bars, many overlooking its immaculate coastline. The southern beaches of the Gold Coast provide a more laid-back, boho atmosphere where surfers flock to make the most of this sublime environment. Behind the glittering sands is an enthralling hinterland, less than an hour from the city. Incredible treks through this undisturbed natural Eden lead to magical waterfalls, providing a splendid contrast after days spent at sea. Along the Spit to the north of the Gold Coast are some of the largest marina facilities in Australia, including Southport Yacht Club – a favourite for visiting superyachts.

Rainforest and Hinterland Adventures

The natural beauty of Queensland certainly doesn’t stop with its kaleidoscopic reef experiences. Cairns is not just a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, but also the UNESCO Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest. The Daintree offers an eclectic mix of activities and encounters, from ATV tours through the rainforest to enlightening Aboriginal tours of the ancient land. Queensland’s strength in diverse experiences is second to none, and exploring the Sunshine State you will feed your hunger for adventure.

The Gold Coast hinterland is teeming with diverse flora and fauna, with Lamington and Springbrook National Parks offering a retreat into a natural paradise. The volcanic landscape of Springbrook is as enthralling as it gets for land-based adventures, characterised by gorges, rocky outcrops and magical waterfalls.

Noosa, on the Sunshine Coast, is Australia’s relaxation capital. This subtropical resort town is known for its spectacular coastal scenery and the beautiful Noosa National Park. In Noosa, you can embrace all things wild as you take in the awe-inspiring scenery and come across native Australian plants and wildlife. Along Noosa’s dramatic headland are the Fairy Pools, natural saltwater pools where visitors can take a plunge into azure waters.

Superyacht Infrastructure

Queensland is a major superyacht hub for the Asia Pacific region, with world-class marina and shipyard facilities which attract superyachts from all over the world. Cairns Marlin Marina and Southport Yacht Club have some of the largest berthing facilities in Australia, while Queensland is also a mecca for refit and maintenance. The marine infrastructure in Queensland makes this an ideal destination for superyachts to stay long-term.

Reality star savagely called out on camera on controversial dating show FBoy Island Australia

A contestant on controversial dating series FBoy Island has called out one of the leading ladies in an elimination that left host Abbie Chatfield gobsmacked.

Aussie star lands huge Netflix role

A contestant on controversial dating series FBoy Island Australia called out one of the leading ladies after he was eliminated in a scene so shocking, even host Abbie Chatfield’s jaw hit the floor.

Wes, a 28-year-old account manager from Victoria, was given the boot by Ally Woodfall on Monday night’s episode of the BINGE show after she felt he hadn’t “really made any effort to build on a relationship” with her, which she believed to be “the ultimate FBoy move”.

FBoy Island leading lady Ally eliminated Wes for not making an effort with her.

For context, Ally is among a trio of leading ladies on the show who must weed through a sea of male contestants, half of which are FBoys and the other half Nice Guys. If the ladies choose a Nice Guy in the end, they both walk away with $50,000. If they choose an FBoy, they risk him keeping the cash for himself.

Each men keep their FBoy/Nice Guy statuses to themselves until the weekly eliminations. So this week, when Wes revealed to Ally that he was in fact a Nice Guy, he delivered a few parting shots before leaving the villa.

He couldn’t hide his frustration that Ally had focused her attention on another contestant, Joe, since the start of the season and said he felt shut out of the competition.

Stream FBoy Island Australia on BINGE, available on Hubbl .

Nuggett (left) and Wes were in Ally’s bottom two on Monday night’s elimination.

“Ally, from the start I feel like you’ve had the eyes for Joe and your eyes have never swayed left or right,” he told her. “There’s been seven dates and I’ve been on none. I don’t feel like I’ve ever had your time. I don’t want to feel like a fourth or fifth option, and that’s the honest truth, Ally.”

When she countered that he could’ve “stepped up”, he really let her have it.

“It just felt like you had someone else to speak to all the time,” he explained. “It was never me. The thing that was hurtful the most and I don’t know when a man is supposed to stop pushing. You don’t want to force anything though, either. It is what it is.”

After his feelings were met with a series of sighs and eye rolls from Ally, he delivered this final blow: “I hope you do get an FBoy in the end, and I do hope he does take the 50K.”

Wes did not hold back when he was booted from the show.

Cue jaws on the floor from both Ally and host Abbie Chatfield, who couldn’t believe their ears.

“And I’m sorry to say that, but it’s the way I feel,” Wes continued. “It will be a great ending.”

Ally was in complete shocked with Wes’ parting words.

And it seems Ally has also made another contestant with the unlkely name of Nuggett feel less than special on the show. Nuggett was also in Ally’s bottom two this week and, although he wasn’t eliminated, he too had a few choice words for her.

“I’ve been up here [on elimination night] four times in a row,” Nugget said. “I just keep fighting, and once again I still feel like I’m just fighting for second and third [place]. Like, if you kick me off, I understand.”

Throughout the season, Ally has focused most of her attentions on Joe, who hasn’t really won over some of the male contestants.

FBoy Island Australia Season 2 boys spill on secrets of Season 2

Joe has been labelled possessive over Ally and he was even accused of being a misogynist by the ladies after they discovered he was following controversial public figure Andrew Tate on Instagram.

“In my opinion, Andrew Tate is basically the leader of misogyny,” Krystal said on-camera weeks ago. “Nice Guy or FBoy, I do not care what your status is on this island. If you’re an Andrew Tate supporter, you do not respect women.”

Wes had been a favourite among his fellow contestants.

“Instant alarm bells because if that is someone you are admiring and looking up to, what does that say about the type of person you are and the type of values and morals that you may be aligning with?” Krystal added.

As for Wes, he has been well liked in the house since day one, and even assigned himself the role of chef. When news.com.au visited the set earlier this year, Wes even offered to make us some avo on toast.

“Regardless of status, the most wholesome thing in the house is Chef Wes,” fellow contestant Frank told us.

“He’s been looking and feeding all of the boys, and if you need a husband who can cook for you, go and find Chef Wes, for real. Come on, bless our Chef Wes.”

Core Keeper dev celebrates going "from being called a 'fat nerd' as a child, to making maps for Heroes 3 and WarCraft 3, to now having a game that has more than 3 million players"

You never know what might happen

Core Keeper characters using tools to craft, fish, and fight

The delightfully hectic pixel art mining and survival game Core Keeper continues to blow up in popularity , reaching yet another major player milestone just a few weeks following its official launch on August 27.

CEO Fredrik Präntare celebrated Core Keeper reaching three million players with a heartfelt message on Twitter . "This is completely crazy to me, from being called a 'fat nerd' as a child, to making maps for Heroes 3 and WarCraft 3, to now having a game that has more than 3 million players," he said. "Thank you, everyone – my wonderful team and I are beyond grateful."

Of course, Prantare had to poke fun at his younger self, but this seriously does illustrate a larger picture: you never really know where you'll end up years down the road. It also proves that, occasionally, CEOs can be funny.

Core Keeper had been in early access for roughly two years, and since its 1.0 launch last month, even more players – in parties of one to eight thanks to co-op support – have been flocking to its novel mix of vibes echoing Minecraft, Valheim, Stardew Valley, and others. As the game continues to pick up traction, boasting a "Very Positive" rating on Steam with almost 30,000 total reviews, it doesn't seem like Core Keeper's momentum is going to slow anytime soon.

Although Core Keeper continues to be a breakout hit, the game still hasn't been released on Nintendo Switch, PS4, or Xbox One due to a last-minute delay. While it was originally set to launch on September 17, there is no new date for these last-gen versions, though stores like the Nintendo eShop seem to erroneously say October 29. The game came to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on August 27.

If you're looking for something a little more life sim-like to check out, take a look at 10 games like Stardew Valley.

  • What Life Might Look Like on the World’s Biggest Yacht

Portrait of Adriane Quinlan

On a Tuesday morning in September, a six-foot-long plastic model of a boat sat on the second floor of the Explorers Club, looking a little like a beached Orca, sleek and out of place in the tweedy boardroom. The tiny yacht had traveled to East 70th Street from Los Angeles and, before that, made stops in Monaco and Zurich, Cannes, and West Palm Beach — a prop to entice buyers who can spend $10 million on a cabin in the world’s biggest yacht. If it gets made. The boat will be called the Ulyssia and it’s the passion project of Frank Binder, a billionaire from the Merck clan with a thing for boats (he once owned a shipyard in Monaco). Lenny Kravitz, his friend, is onboard to help design interiors. (“He’s a genius.”)

Binder has been doing a world tour to find other buyers — who might be hard to meet. Maintenance hovers around 3 percent a year, or $300,000 for that $10 million one-bedroom. It’s a big ask, especially for a boat that, if he does get recruits, won’t launch until 2028. To help, Binder brought on two former executives from the World , the luxury liner that was the first — and only — to prove rich people want to live … at sea, all year. (It launched in 2002, is still sold out, and has yet to snag on an iceberg or go bankrupt.)

Renato Chizzola , a senior vice-president for the Ulyssia who worked as the general manager of the World for five years, spoke to Curbed about the terrors of elephant seals and why he once hired Israeli snipers to come onboard.

This interview has been condensed and edited for clarity.

What did your job on the World look like??

I was in charge of lifestyle, expedition, everything — even the kitchen. You have a captain who’s the master of the vessel, and he ultimately will have the last word on safety, security, where we go, where we can’t go. But then you also need to have somebody who has grown up in a galley carrying luggage. I’m 60 in October. When I was 27, I said, “Okay, how can I see the world without having money?” So in 1993, I was hired on the Queen Elizabeth II , then went to hotels, cruises, and in 46 years I traveled to 186 countries. I was allowed to live onboard and basically extend any service, any dream that a resident had.

What’s the difference between this superyacht and the World ?

The World is now 23 years old. She was created in the late ’80s. She looks like a cruise ship. And the  Ulyssia is a yacht — the designer says this is his masterpiece.

We never had many amenities on the World . Here, we have a deli. We have a library with a card and games room. We have a table-tennis room. We have two paddle-tennis courts all inside, a multipurpose sports deck up there where the helicopters are, two hangers, two submarines to go down to the ocean, seven restaurants.

Then, we have this inflatable marina off the back of the boat. Imagine we’re near Bermuda. It’s a beautiful day. The sea is calm. We stop and we inflate this — it takes an hour — and we have tenders. You can go diving right there off the ship. The sea is yours. This marina is something the World could never ever have done, because there’s no space in the boat to keep that. The World was more elderly, a bit elderly retired. This is way younger. Why? Because we have so many amenities and offer adventure. Here, we are offering fewer apartments with more space. The balconies are huge. Luxury, for them, means space, time and getting whatever they wish, whenever, wherever. Freedom.

superyacht called australia

Freedom , in a contained location —

Yes, and in a safe environment, completely protected against any danger. If a resident says, “I want to bring my family there, I want to be safe, I want to have no worries,” safety needs to be core to us. They want the freedom to do what they do at home — to run around with suits, jewelry. And if they are smart enough to say, “I want to go and see real scenarios, not luxury hotels,” they can go places where there’s no luxury and see how the world really works. That’s what this community wants.

Sounds like a security nightmare.

We will hire ex-Mossad physically, to be on the ship. On the World , we partnered with Marine Guard, one of the world’s best safety and security companies . It provides technical and physical support. And whenever we went to critical places — for example, when we went through the Gulf of Aden, I brought in Israeli snipers to come on the boat. Nobody, no pirate on earth can come in past them. Then on shore excursions, we have every form of security that you can imagine. Satellite images. Images underwater, over water. When we went to Antarctica, to the Northwest Passage — meeting with the Inuits, the Aborigines — you need people who know them. You need people who safeguard you. In the Antarctic, you are only allowed to go with Zodiacs to the beaches. You need people who know that, who know the sea lions, the penguins. We bring them onboard — 20 or 25 people who know everything about every area. And when we do expeditions, we bring on EYOS, one of the greatest expedition leaders in the world, which goes to places like the Titanic .

Is this, like the Titanic , experimental in any way?

No, there are similar yachts. But in four years, when she will hopefully leave port, she will be the greenest yacht of this size ever built. And at that time, we may build for whatever is available in terms of fuel, whether it’s methanol or nuclear. There are vessels already going nuclear, military vessels.

But isn’t this all risky?

It’s the opposite. You will see more and more environments like this at sea. Why? Because you can escape anything! If there’s an outbreak in New York, a big virus, you just won’t go there. If there’s a war there, you just don’t go there. If there’s a storm, you don’t go there.

So this will be a way for the global elite, basically, to pay to avoid any problem.

Is it going to be a one percent community? Yes, obviously, but they need to do good around the world, otherwise they cannot come to the community.

Imagine the following. We will have a medical center onboard. We have MRI machines. We have a dentistry. Our doctors, when we go to the west coast of Africa, to Senegal, we can have our doctors go out and help. And as we go around the world, we will help to map the ocean floor. We’ll have tools available to measure and send these to oceanic institutions that then take this data. So we are helping to make the world a better place. And that’s the legacy.

How are you going to gauge whether the people who want to live here also want to do good?

There’s a very tough background check before being allowed to buy. So can it be that a Colombian drug lord or a Russian weapons dealer comes and says, “Oh, I’m going to take ten?” No, that can’t happen. We’re not a community for people from mainland China who don’t speak English and want to spit around. Or aggressive Russians. We are not a community for sheikhs from any Arab countries. And I have nothing against the Chinese and Russians. I love everybody. I’ve been everywhere. But they just don’t fit here, and they won’t come. We want like-minded golf players, tennis players, joggers, bikers, F1 drivers.

We will have roughly 30 to 35 percent Europeans, 30 to 35 percent North Americans, including from Canada, possibly a few from Mexico City, a few from São Paulo. Then we have about 20 percent from Australia, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan. Then we expect to have about 10 percent of people from all over, we don’t know where. It could be anywhere.

They’ll need a certain amount of money to get into this boat and I assume, therefore, that you can’t be that picky.

No, we can’t. But we try to be. It’s a balance. We meet them three, four, five, six times. We invite them, show them something, then they say, “Oh, I trust these people. I believe in them.” It’s a slow process.

Can a buyer get kicked off?

Oh, absolutely.

What’s the justice system?

There’s a board that’s voted in and we have our chairman on the board. Almost all of the members are people who have either been on yachts, have their own yacht, or have led organizations.

If people have their own yachts, why would they sign up for this?

They might have a beautiful yacht of a hundred meters, but they can’t hire all these education guides, explorers all the time. We have 22 guest suites. Imagine we’re coming to Japan. Blossom season. We bring an ex Japanese prime minister onboard, maybe a three-star Michelin chef. We bring them on, let’s say, three weeks before. And they lecture. We can have experts speak about anything. Volcanoes, health and wellness, food and beverage, politics, archeology.

And they have you, who’s been to 186 countries.

Exactly. So when I do speak to people who want to buy and invite them for lunch or a coffee, they listen because they know, Oh, this guy has been there. You don’t need to tell them something that you think can happen. You can actually tell them a story. When I went to Antarctica the last time, in 2009, on the way back to the Zodiac, I am walking and these big elephant seals — those are the big guys, like three tons and ten feet long — and all of a sudden, out of nowhere, there’s a big sound like MWUGHOWUGH and a big one came up, out of the sand. I stood there frozen. These are moments when you think, Is this really happening to me? How fortunate, how lucky am I to be able to experience moments like this? And all the wealthy people say the same.

U19 World Cup hero Mahli Beardman called up to Australia squad for England ODIs

The u19 world cup final hero mahli beardman was awarded his maiden international call-up for australia for their odi series against england. beardman earned a surprise maiden international call-up to the australia odi squad for the england series..

  • Australia include 19-year-old seamer Mahli Beardman in their ODI squad
  • Mahli Beardman was player of the match in Under-19 World Cup
  • Australia dealing with a slew of injuries to their fast-bowling contingent

Australia have included 19-year-old seamer Mahli Beardman in their ODI squad for the upcoming five-match series against England. Beardman, the Player of the Match in Australia's U19 World Cup final triumph over India, will join the 17-player squad in Nottingham. The 6ft 2in seamer’s ability to deliver under pressure has made him a rising star in the Australian fast-bowling ranks.

Despite having played only one List A match, Beardman was recently signed by the Perth Scorchers for the upcoming Big Bash League, signaling his potential as a future star. The selectors have been closely monitoring Beardman alongside other promising young fast bowlers like Callum Vidler, Charlie Anderson, and Tom Straker.

Beardman’s inclusion comes at a time when Australia is dealing with a slew of injuries to their fast-bowling contingent. Xavier Bartlett was ruled out of the series after sustaining a side strain during the T20I series against England, while Nathan Ellis, Spencer Johnson, and Riley Meredith have also been sidelined due to injuries.

In addition to these setbacks, Australia is without Pat Cummins, who is focusing on strength and conditioning ahead of a busy Test summer at home. Meanwhile, Josh Hazlewood, who played a key role in Australia's T20I victory in Southampton, is being carefully managed due to a calf strain.

The Australian pace attack for the ODI series now comprises senior figures like Mitchell Starc, Hazlewood, and Sean Abbott, with Beardman and all-rounders Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, and captain Mitch Marsh providing support. Beardman’s rapid rise to the international stage adds intrigue to an already intense series, as Australia looks to overcome injuries and put their best foot forward against a strong England side.
