Based in its 14 acre waterfront location in the thriving maritime town of Falmouth, Pendennis employs over 550 highly skilled tradespeople and has seen its people ethos rewarded with over 30 awards since its foundation.

Pendennis’ heritage and experience include more than 350 refit projects and over 30 custom-made build projects and has been involved with some of the most iconic yachts in the world.

With over 350 refit projects in our portfolio there isn’t much that our knowledgeable team hasn’t encountered when it comes to the complexities of the refit of a client’s yacht.

Atlantic Gateway

Falmouth Harbour has been providing a comforting welcome to seafarers for centuries. Built around the packet ship trade, Falmouth was the first landfall for many sailing ships returning to Britain from distant shores.

In modern times Falmouth continues to be an important stopover for many large yachts departing for or returning from the Caribbean or the Mediterranean.

The sight of St Anthony’s Lighthouse and the castles of St Mawes and Pendennis have been welcoming sailors home for generations, where Falmouth Harbour’s safe waters and a well earned drink at the world famous Chainlocker await.

Falmouth Harbour has a number of moorings suitable for Superyachts.

Accessibility

Falmouth Harbour provides the following services for yachts at anchor or on the moorings.

• Tender berthing is available via Falmouth Haven Marina in the centre of town.
• The marina includes waste disposal and recycling options (including ICW).
• Car parking and delivery drop off points.
• Hire of harbour craft to assist with provisioning and personnel transfers.
• Slipway access, storage and forklift truck assistance.
• Fuel for yachts up to 35m (advanced booking required).

Falmouth Pilots can provide expert advice on anchoring positions, tailored to meet the specific needs of individual yachts.

Cruising Destination

Falmouth can act as a perfect base for UK cruising or a must see destination for large yachts passing through Cornwall and the Southwest of England.

The ports of Fowey, Dartmouth and the Isles of Scilly all sit within easy cruising distance via some of the most pristine sailing waters in the UK framed by rugged coastline.

The region is unmissable for those wanting to experience the natural beauty and picturesque seaside towns of the UK.

Movement Reporting

Vessel movement reporting details are laid out in Admiralty List of Radio Signals, Volume 6.

All large vessel movements in excess of 20m LOA should be reported to ‘Falmouth Pilot Radio’ on VHF ch 09 with at least 15 minutes notice prior to the movement commencing.

This is vital to ensure that movement information can be recorded and promulgated for Port Safety.

Large yachts are expected to comply with all relevant reporting requirements.

We always recommend appointing a local agent to handle pre arrival and immigration formalities.

Super Yacht Services launches in Falmouth

Anne carson has set up the company in response to increasing superyacht traffic in the region….

In order to meet a growing demand in the region, former yacht chef Anne Carson has launched Super Yacht Services in Falmouth, UK this summer. Having had an extensive career working on some of the most prolific superyachts, Carson has set up the company to support crew and owners with yacht clearance, berth reservations, fresh provisioning, courier services, fuel bunkering, concierge services and almost anything else a yacht might need while in Cornwall.

“The idea came to me last summer when I saw MY  Dona Amelia (ex.  Rosencavalier ) towed into the harbour, SY Elfje sailing out and MY  Aquila in the back ground all at the same time – so many superyachts seemed to be coming and going all year,” Carson explains. She then did some research into whether anyone was already providing yacht support in the area, not wanting to step on any toes, and discovered that no one was, with the nearest yacht agents located as far away as Norway and the Netherlands.

Having only launched Super Yacht Services this summer, business is off to a promising start as Carson currently has five large superyachts under her belt, all having needed various yacht support services. Having worked for a significant stint on board SY Adela , which has close ties with Falmouth, Carson has been able to benefit from her knowledge of suppliers in the area.

Part of the initial success of the company, Carson believes, could be attributed to a change in cruising habits, as Falmouth is increasingly seen as a good place to stop at the start of a trip to northern Europe. Considering its large natural harbour, extensive moorings and anchorages and shipyard facilities, the infrastructure for superyachts is plentiful. “It seems like there is more and more superyacht traffic here all the time and I don’t think there has ever been so many superyachts stopping in Falmouth, so I think there has been a spike in demand for these services,” Carson reflects.

“Pendennis Shipyard is busy, so as well as being able to work with boats coming out of the yard, there seems to be a lot of owners who have cruised many years in the Mediterranean and are now looking for new areas to cruise. This is particularly true as the boats are getting bigger and able to handle the conditions of the northern climate. This summer, for example, both  Nahlin and Talitha were cruising in Norway at the same time.”

Carson is pleased to have already delivered a wide variety of services to her clients, from food provisioning to glass replacement on hatches and refrigeration health checks. Her husband, former captain Steve Carson, is also able to help with the technical requests.

A colossal $20 million superyacht, owned by the billionaire head of a diamond company, has been sighted in the South West. The Sport, which was docked in Falmouth over the weekend, set sail for Plymouth in the early hours of Monday, September 9.

The 146ft vessel is said to be owned by Laurence Graff, the billionaire founder of Graff diamond jewelers. He is reported to have a net worth of $4 billion (£3.46 billion) and also owns the $140 million, 233ft superyacht Juice, which is currently sailing in the Mediterranean, as per Marine Traffic.

Previously known as Space, the Gentleman's Journal reported that she boasts a hot tub, steam room and numerous sun loungers, with an elegant and opulent design inside its five cabins. Built by Feadship in 2007, Sport can accommodate eight guests with nine crew members.

SuperYachtFan estimates the vessel to be worth around $20m (£15m) and costs approximately $2m per year to maintain. The luxurious yacht was custom-made for Mr Graff in 2007, founder of the renowned Graff jewellers and is certainly an impressive sight in the Barbican harbour.

However, it is overshadowed by its newer sister vessel, the $140m Juice.Larger in size and more luxurious, Juice can sleep 12 guests in six cabins, with a substantial crew of 25 staff. With an 8m swimming pool, sundeck gym and surround-sound cinema, it certainly justifies its $10m per year running costs.

Established in London in 1960, Graff is a jewellery company still chaired by its 86 year old founder, Lawrence Graff. Renowned for their creativity and superior craftsmanship, a ring from Graff could fetch anywhere between £900 and a staggering £245,000.

A company which builds and repairs superyachts in Falmouth has explained why it has resumed work during the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown.

Pendennis Shipyard, which specialises in building and refitting luxury sail and motor yachts, recently reopened with under a third of its total workforce on site, while office staff are working from home where possible.

Superyachts currently on site include Megan, which was last refitted in 2014 and was once on the market for £26m. The 144ft yacht arrived in Falmouth from Gibraltar last week.

Steel, a 180ft ice-class expedition yacht originally built by Pendennis in 2009, is also on site. Once on the market for over £24m, Steel arrived in Falmouth from Portsmouth at the end of January.

The 139ft luxury sailing yacht Rebecca, which is owned by Texan billionaire Charles Butt and has a price tag of almost £14m, also arrived from the Azores earlier in the month.

Pendennis joint managing director Toby Allies said the decision to reopen the yard was made following consultation with the national trade body for the marine sector, and local MP Cherilyn Mackrory.

“It is very clear that Pendennis, along with multiple other manufacturing businesses in the UK irrespective of sector, are being encouraged to return to work,” Mr Allies said.

“Currently we are operating with under one third of our total workforce on-site and office staff working from home where possible.

"We have implemented extra measures at our facility including return inductions, daily temperature checks, one-way systems, two metre distancing markings and an enhanced cleaning schedule.

“We continue to review the situation daily and all appropriate action will be taken to follow any further changes to government policy.”

The nearby A&P Group, a global ship repair, conversion and marine specialist, is also open for business.

Group MD David McGinley said A&P Falmouth was carrying out essential work on the Torpoint Ferry, as well as work in support of the Ministry of Defence.
